APR 30: Halloween
8: Rapper Busta Rhymes has signed on to the project. Whoopee. Also
in negotiations are Tyra Banks, and 'American Pie's' Thomas Ian Nicolas.
Production on the 8th installment begins in May. Who do you think is the
best Slasher? Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy Krueger or Hellraiser. VOTE
HERE. Krueger leads the voting with 18. Myers is second at 17,
and Jason travels last with just 6. It appears that no one thinks
Hellraiser is... What do you think.
APR 30: A
Bonnie Lass: The Sci-Fi Channel's Bonnie Hammer, who has been
making things happen at the Sci-Fi Channel, got herself promoted recently
to President of the Network. It's a newly created position from USA Cable
Prez Stephen Cha. Since Hammer took the reins in 1998, the Channel is one
of the top ten cable networks and the programming budget has more than
doubled. Ratings for the channel are up 29 percent, viewership is up 65
percent and the distribution of the channel has increased from 50M to
70M. Congrats Ms. Hammer, nice job. My only beef is with the
networks dropping of old shows like Beauty and the Beast, War of the
Worlds, and so on. Why didn't the network ever pick up forgotten shows
like 'Project UFO (22 episodes)' or even 'Nowhere Man (from UPN when
Voyager started out. Over two seasons worth of them)'.
APR
30: Babylon 5 Amazes: The Babylon 5
world continues to amaze on the Sci-Fi Channel. B5: Crusade 1.1 ratings
and Babylon 5 .9 ratings are among the top shows on the Sci-Fi Channel as
fans continue to tune in for both series. Crusade was cancelled by TNT
before ever airing one of the 13 episodes. TNT, nearly ruined the last
season of B5. Many stories were left unfinished. TNT killed off one hero
to save another who was dumped from the show the last season.
APR 30: Ground
Zero: ABC has picked up 'Ground Zero' starring Katherine Heigl (roswell)
and Kerr Smith (the forsaken) which begins production in Vancouver this
week. Eric Laneuville will direct the story of two college student who
build a nuclear bomb, which is stolen by terrorists who want to blow up
San Francisco.
APR 30: Unspeakable:
Dark Angel director Thomas Wright has been hired to direct the
supernatural thriller 'Unspeakable'. The film is budgeted for about $3M.
Yes, just $3M. The film is slated to star Dennis Hopper, Dina Meyer
(secret agent man & Starship Troopers), and Lance Henrickson (millennium,
aliens, stone cold). Unspeakable is about a female psychologist who must
deal with a serial killer after he escapes the electric chair. This
raises the possibly for her that he is not human. Shooting begins May 5 in
Santa Fe, N.M.
APR 30: Make
Up Your Weisz: Racheal Weisz says she misses the months of filming
with her friends in Morocco and would love to have them back. I seem to
remember a few weeks ago when this same Weisz-enheimer said she wouldn't
return for a third film should they decide to do one. She had had
enough. If you had such a good time on both fillms, why wouldn't you
want to do another one? She called it "Like going back to summer
camp." Riiiiiigghht. the MUMMY RETURNS opens in theatres on May
4.
APR 30: Forsaken:
The new vampire flick, 'the Forsaken' tanked at the box office as
expected. The new twist on the blood sucking cult drew little interest
from horror fans in the first week.
APR 30: Foodfight:
This is one heavy commercial flick, despite Threshold Entertainment
stating otherwise. None of the product owners are paying for their
characters to appear in the animated movie. And Threshold maintains a
certain degree of play with the characters as long as their mascots come
out unscathed and able to sell products. We are scheduled to see Charlie
Tuna, Mr. Clean, Uncle Ben, Chef Boyardee, Chester Cheetah and others. The
heroes of the show will be original creations but the real product mascots
will provide some legitimacy to its story of grocery products being alive
when the store closes.
APR 30: Less
News: With the coming strike, possibly Tuesday, and productions
shutting down there will be less news available to everyone. There will
still be updates to the site, like new labels or covers and whatever news
can be scrounged up. Keep checking in for new material on the site.
APR 30: STeeeeRIKE
2!:
Major studios and the Writers Guild held talks over the weekend when the
deadline is Tuesday. Isn't is amazing how unions and management hardly
talk until it is almost to late? Why? Why not begin talks one year, eight
months or even six months before the contract is up. Always till the last
minute.
APR
30: CDR Covers: Two more CDR Covers
have made their way on to the site. Star Trek Voyager, that matches the
VCD Cover and Back, along with Aeon Flux. Chick out the CDR
AREA.
APR 30: Damme
Monk: Jean-Claude Van Damme has signed on the project 'the Monk'.
No surprise that it will be a kung-fu action film. Ringo Lam will direct
the $25M project which begins lensing November first. Van Damme recently
finished up 'The Order' which will be distributed domestically by Columbia
Pictures. The guy never tries anything new. Think it will be a martial
arts flick too...?
APR 30: JAG
Trouble: The fifth year series J.A.G. may be in trouble as
negotiations continue. CBS is offering $1M less than what Paramount is
seeking. Paramount want around $2M per episode. This could be another
series that could fly the coup. I wonder if UPN is interested in this
series too. Maybe Fox or the WB would like to have the series.
APR
30: X-Files: Will there be a ninth
season? It really appears that there will be. Gillian Anderson, Jason
Patrick, and Pileggi are contracted for a ninth season and if it happens
they are planning to bring back Annabeth Gish for the season or part of
it. Only Carter's contract needs to be worked out. Duchovny can take a
hike since he wants out. The series has done well without him.
APR 30: Simpson
Dollars: Thought voicing cartoon characters wouldn't make your
rich? Think again as the voices for the Simpsons will be making a whopping
$100,00 per episode for seasons 13 and 14. An optional 15 season in the
contract would gain each voice $125K per episode. Each voice per the
old contract will also be receiving a $1M bonus, which wasn't originally
due until 2005. The voices are Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Dan
Castallaneta (Homer), Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, & Nancy
Cartwright.
APR 29: Driven
to Number 1: The new Renny Harlan and Sylvester Stallone opened to
the number one spot this weekend beating out Bridget Jones Diary and Spy
Kids that jumped back up to the number 3 spot. Driven nearly doubled its competition
taking in $13M. Spy Kids has taken in almost $94M dollars in just five
weeks.
APR
29: McNeill on Exposure: Tonight on
the Sci-Fi Channel's 'Exposure' will air Voyager's Robert Duncan McNeil's
10 minute film, '9mm of Love'. It will air at 8pm EST. The 10-minute film
is about a desperate man who hires the "hitman of love," Cupid,
to win the heart of the woman he loves. Unfortunately, rather than the expected bow-and-arrow Cupid wields a 9mm gun loaded with "love
bullets," and the woman thinks he's trying to assassinate her. '9mm
of Love' was shot during one weekend on the Paramount backlot, generously
donated by the studio to the Tom Paris actor. The short film will also air
on the Sci-Fi Channel website. (trektoday.com)
APR 29: Series
Pages: There are over 20 TV Series webpages. You might find a
series you like. 'Tales of the Gold Monkey',
'the Strip', 'Farscape',
'Seven Days', 'Mann &
Machine' and more in the Sci-Fi TV Zone.
APR 29: Talia
Winters Nude?: Babylon 5 actor Andrea Thompson, Talia Winters on
the show, was hired by CNN to be a part-time national correspondent
suddenly came under fire for appearing nude on Arliss and then came the
Italian video 'Manhattan Gigolo'. Despite the nudity CNN is sticking with
the actor turned reporter. Good for them. Thompson also appeared on J.A.G.,
and NYPD Blue.
APR 29: UPN
Money: This will officially be UPN's most expensive season for
programming. Which of course will be even more should UPN pull it off and
get 'Angel' as well.
APR 29: Borg
Queen: As reported on at least two other sites, Alice Krige played
the Borg Queen in the two hour finale rather than Susanna Thompson, who
previously played the part in the Voyager episodes.
APR 29: Seven
Days: With the coming of Buffy and possibly Angel to UPN this fall,
it is likely that the fourth season of 'Seven Days' may never happen. The
series return was on the bubble before the Buffy acquisition.
Adding Angel into the mix could just make the cost of maintaining the time
travel series a waste of funds. Should the series return for a fourth
season, UPN could be looking bright in the genre realm with 'Special Unit
2', 'Enterprise', 'Buffy', 'Angel', Seven Days', and 'The Dead Zone'.
APR 29: Dubbing
Videos: Are you dubbing your own video collection? Trying to make
the best quality copies? If you are doing your own, then check out the Dubbing
Area of the site. It just might help you create near professional
looking dubs.
APR 29: X-Men
II: Avi Arad tells the comics contunuum that they hope to have
X-Men 2 in theatres by November 2002.
APR 29: TV
Themes: Over 355 Television Themes on site
for your listening pleasure. Visit the Themes Page
to see the listing. Themes are in MP3 and wav formats.
APR 28: Linux
PlayStation 2: Sony posted information on it Beta Release 1 of
PlaysStation 2 Linux Kit. The kit includes a DVD with
software, 40GB hard drive, keyboard and mouse. The beta, or test, version
will be available in June. Included in the press release on its Japanese
site that puts its price tag at 25,000 yen, or about $200.
APR 28: Backula
Expected: AICN has announced that Paramount should be introducing
'Scott Backula' as the series lead by the end of next week. Backula would
be the highest paid Trek actor ever and will likely get the approval/veto
on material before it shoots, unlike any other trek star. The impasse with
Backula came over the potential money increases over the seven year run of
the series, as well as how much creative say he would get. With the fans
disapproval rating for the new series UPN/Paramount wants a genre friendly
actor, which Backula is. The doctor in the series will be a female.
She has already been selected, and is totally unknown.
APR 28: New
Batman: Have you heard, Lorenzo Lamas has been signed to play the
'Cape Crusader' in the next Batman Installment? You haven't? It's
OK, I made it up for lack of news early this morning.
But what a story that would be. Think about it though, he would fit
the mask quite well. Even the voice from Renegade might be pretty cool
behind the mask. Lorenzo Lamas... Could be a fit... :) Don't know about
the tattoos though. Nahhhh!
APR 28: New
Series: We have had a bucket full of new series announced and some
of these new series have fallen out of the bucket to the waste side. Check
what is coming and almost came in 'Channel
News'.
APR 27: Souls
Suck: UPN has quickly pulled the plug on its new series from Aaron
Spelling, 'All Souls' after a mere 2 episodes. The supernatural medical
drama gained horrible ratings and has gone into hiatus with four episodes
left to air. They may air this summer along with the unaired episodes of
'Freedom' and 'Level 9'. UPN has not said whether or not the series will
be retooled or canned.
APR 27: Scorpion
King Has No Fat: Chow Yun Fat is rumored to have turned down the
role of the villain in the upcoming feature 'Scorpion King' starring 'the
Rock, Dwayne Johnson'. (4w-movies)
APR
27: Mutant X: Victoria Pratt wasn't
unemployed long after the cancellation of 'Cleopatra 2525'. She has joined
the cast of 'Mutant X'. (providing the series doesn't die from law suit
between marvel and fox) She will play Shalimar, half animal-half human.
Other cast members include...
Lauren Lee Smith - telepath
Forbes March - alter his density
Victor Webster - conduct electricity
The new series has yet to cast the lead role of Alex Xero and his evil
counterpart.
APR 27: Trek
V Make-up: Trek series franchise make-up artist, 'Michael Westmore'
will be continuing his services on the new Trek series 'Enterprise'.
Westmore has been the job for Next Generation, Deepspace Nine, Voyager,
and all the Star Trek feature films. (section 31.com) This is great that
all these familiar behind the scene people are moving over to the new
series, but PLEASE, oh PLEASE bring in some new writers. Fans deserve some
new material with the new series.
APR
27: Wrinkle
In Time: ABC television will be doing a four hour mini-series based
on the Madeleine L'Engle's 'A Wrinkle in Time'. John Kent Harrison is
directing the Susan Shilliday script which is already in production in
Vancouver. Fireworks International (Robocop PD) and BTL Productions are
producing the show while Dimension Films will produce. It will air next
season as part of Disney's Sunday night 'Wonderful World of Disney'. On
board the project are Kyle Secor, Chris Potter, Sarah-Jane Redmond, Alison
Elliot, Kate Nellington, Alfre Woodard, David Dorfman, Gregory Smith and
Katie Stuart. It's a time traveling story of two children trying to find
their missing father.
APR 27: Ghost
Rider: David Goyer told the comics continuum "The script is
ready to go and we're in pre-production. Nicolas Cage still hasn't signed
on the dotted line yet, but is likely too.' Goyer went on to say that
Steve Norrington will be directing and the film will definitely be an 'R'
rating. Also says Goyer... "He does have a cycle, but if he's
the Ghost Rider and he touches any motorcycle it transforms into the same
motorcycle, the same demonic entity. We have a scene where he rides down a
street and all the windows shatter and the whole street is molten
asphalt." Ghost Rider is budgeted for $80M. Right around the price
tag for 'the X-Men's' first feature.
APR
27: Outer Limits: An Outer Limits and
MacGyver have joined the CDR Labels. MacGyver could be better but its the
only images I could get so far. CLICK HERE
for the CDR Label download area. See them all. Also there waiting is
Buffy, Angel, Dark Angel and more.
APR 27: Trek
X: From TrekToday.com comes news that a reliable source known as
'faith' has revealed that the tenth film will open at Troi and Rikers
wedding with Picard as the best man. The working title is 'Star Trek X:
Nemesis' and is likely to change. Paramount has changed the final title in
the last three next generations features. Trek X should be released in the
summer of 2002 with production beginning sometime after the possible
strike.
APR 27: Captain
Bakula: Scott Backula originally turned down the role but it again
in talks with Paramount over the role. In the mean time he has signed on
to the comedy pilot "Late Bloomers" replacing Burt Reynolds. He
is only a guest in the pilot, leaving the option open to take on the lead
in the new Star Trek series. What amazes me is WHY this man, who has done
almost nothing since Quantum Leap, would turn down a seven year gig on
series that is guaranteed Star Treks hard core fans. A series rumored to
have already been given a seven year commitment. It may be that Backula
would rather co-star in a CBS series rather than star in a UPN series and
have to do the convention rounds as he did with Quantum Leap.
APR 27: Doctor
Strange: David Goyer also told the Comics Continuum, that he has
been approached and is in talks to script the developing Doctor Strange
project.
APR 27: Two
Cities Sci-Fi: The Sci-Fi Channel has production in work a
futuristic adaptation of Charles Dickens 'A Tale of Two Cities' due out in
2002.
APR
27: Dark Ratings: For the week of
4.2.01 Dark Angel scored a low 5.0 rating for the week. This rating is
dismal for an expensive series.
APR 27: MARS:
James Cameron's 'Mars' project will NOT be happening. The project, not by
Cameron, will be showing up on the Sci-Fi Channel as a four hour
mini-series based on Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy. We should
see it sometime in 2002.
APR 27: Hollywood
Shut-down: Hollywood has already gone into shut down mode as the
actors and writers could hit the picket lines as early as next week if
talks do not turn positive. This will cost the studios and employees
millions of dollars. There just isn't enough money around for these greedy
people. Particularly the actors in my opinion who make way to much money.
No one, and I mean no one, is worth $5M per movie, much less the $20M to
$30M some make today. Actors make to much and MOST writers don't make
enough.
APR 27: Alien
Hunter: a hunter and his crew dedicated to saving the galaxy's most
endangered and dangerous animals is currently in development at the Sci-Fi
Channel. Alien Hunter is currently a working title. Name could change.
APR 27: Enterprise
Takes Back Seat: Next season will dawn a new 'Star Trek' series.
For the first time, a star trek series, will not be the flagship of UPN.
This coming season will find 'Buffy' as UPN's number one series. A battle
next season begins between Buffy fans and Trekkers as to which fans are
the best. If 'Angel' should be cancelled by the WB, and brought to UPN the
battle will be on. 'Enterprise' could be battling vampires galore without
ever having one on the show for ratings. Which fans are more dedicated? We
shall see...
APR 26: Another
Buffy?: With the WB having lost 'Buffy' they are now changing what
Electra Woman and Dyna Girl' is all about. It will now be a teen/adult
series in the vain of... Buffy. Imagine that. Another series in the vain
of Buffy. They killed 'Dragonriders of Pern' due to trying to make it like
Buffy. Dyna Girl has left to become a model, and Electra Woman is now a
foul mouthed alcoholic, whose trailer trash. This one is a hacker waiting
to happen. (entertainment weekly)
APR 26: I'm
no Governor, Not yet anyways: Arnold Swartzenegger has announced he
will not be running for governor of the state of California.
Schwarzenegger said he is ready to focus on finishing a sequel to the film
``True
Lies'' and then begin production on a sequel to his popular Terminator
series, ``Terminator III.'' He will get into politics, but not until his
children are older and his film career winds down. Arnold is 53. You folks
may think Arnold is a dinosaur. This guy can still put out a great action
flick. True Lies 2 is going to be great, and a new Terminator film will
rule.
APR 26: DVD
Recorders Coming: Panasonic's upcoming DVD-RAM/R drive will be
demonstrated at this week's trade show. The $1,000 drive is expected to
ship to distributors later this quarter. Sonic Solutions' software will
allow consumers to edit and create videos, which can be recorded onto
DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs. AND... Pioneer also announced it will ship its
DVR-A03, a combination DVD/CD drive, by the end of May for $995. The
Pioneer drive includes DVD-R, DVD-rewritable, CD-R and CD-rewritable. The
Pioneer drive will also bundle Sonic Solutions' software, My DVD, for
DVD-video authoring. Prices for DVD-RAM discs range from $20 to $40,
depending on capacity per disc, which ranges from 2.6GB to almost 10GB.
DVD-RAM will have a difficult time competing on price, but video opens new
markets and can expand the market for DVD-RAM
APR 26: Lost
Time Machine: This film looks to be shit waiting for a toilet to
fall in to. The films director has decided to re-shoot. Not a scene or
two, the whole thing from the beginning. He... wants to change some
things. Man, how many rewrites did the friggin' script get, before they
started filming in the first place. Dreamworks is not happy with the
project which is waayyy behind schedule now.
APR 26: Witch
Mountain Remake: It's always a remake of a movie or television
series into a feature these days. Now Disney will remake its own film,
'Escape to Witch Mountain'.
APR 26: Compaq
I'm Sorry-o: PC maker Compaq Computer reported quarterly earnings
Monday that missed lowered analyst expectations by a penny and announced
it would eliminate 2,000 more jobs. Combined with job cuts
announced earlier, Monday's announcement means the PC maker will shed
7,000 jobs, 4,500 through layoffs and the rest through attrition. "Our
plan now is to eliminate about 7,000 positions" Jeff Clarke, Compaq's
chief financial officer, said in a conference call after the earnings
announcement.
APR 25: Visitor
for Two: DS9's Nana Visitor, Major Kira, will return for season two
of Dark Angel, if and that is a big IF, the show is renewed. Madam X,
Visitor's new Dark Angel character, will appear in all of the remaining
episodes. In season two the character would be a recurring one. She is
after all, Lydecker's boss... Madam X. (trek today)
APR 25: Fantastic
Director: The Marvel Comics Superhero team, 'the Fantastic Four'
finally has a director. Peyton Reed 'Bring it On' has been signed to
develop and direct the feature. There is still no set production date on
the project. A new writer is brought in to write a new script. Other
scripts and efforts already done have not been well received.
APR
25: UPN for Sale?: Rupert Murdoch's
News Corp. Ltd., parent of Fox television, is interested in
purchasing either part or all of Viacom's sibling network UPN. The deal is
already in advanced talks as News Corp. is currently completing a $5.35
billion deal to buy the 10 television station owned by Chris-Craft
Industries Inc., the largest owner of UPN affiliates. That deal is
expected to be completed in May. News Corp. hoped to complete its
negotiations for either all or part of UPN at that time. If successful,
News Corp. would probably maintain UPN as a separate network in addition
to Fox. UPN has 176 affiliates and is the smallest of the networks.
Its rival WB has 221 affiliates and Fox has 222.
APR 25: Signs
of $$$$: Disney has spent in the eight figures for M. Night.
Shyamalan's 'Signs'. He delivered the script on Saturday and the brass
cheese read it quickly and came to terms with his agent. Shyamalan got
$10M for his 'Unbreakable' script and another $4M for 'the Long Kiss
Goodnight' and $3M for 'Sixth Sense'. This writer definitely has
nothing to strike about.
APR 25: Breeders:
Jeanne Tripplehorn will star in a USA original TV Movie thriller about a
serial killer's sister, who's a homicide detective. When the killer
escapes from prison, his sister must track him down. Production is set to
begin May 21 in Vancouver.
APR 25: USA
Network Goes Movie: In 2001 USA Network will have aired 18 new TV
Movies. In 2002 the network has scheduled 24 new TV films airing two new
movies per month. USA Network begins airing two lonforms per month
beginning June 19.
APR 25: Stupid
DVD decision: A DVD will be released soon for the third TV Movie
'Chameleon III' starring Bobby Philips. What the hell about the other two
TV Movies? Why not put all three films on one DVD? Makes since doesn't it.
No one is really going to sink even $10 for UPN/Blockbuster cinema TV
Movie are they? Why not put the trilogy out on a single DVD at $20.
Stupid!
APR 24: Wonder
Woman: It appears that the long in development Wonder Woman film
has WWF star 'Chyna' now as the front runner for the starring role. Given
this news, it seems like this might be a 'B' movie rather than big budget
flick.
APR 24:
Justice League: Bruce Timm, who does/did Batman Beyond, told
comics2film that the new Justice League animated series will have a
familiar look similar to the Superman and Batman series. The animation
will be similar but the backgrounds will be more realistic. The series
debuts on the Cartoon Network in November. The network has ordered 26
half-hour episodes.
APR 24: Bond,
Russell Bond: James Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams and
John Glen, who directed five of the Bond films believes the only person
who could take for Pierce Brosnan, is Gladiator's Russell Crowe. Pop star
Robbie Williams has been has expressed a desire to play the British secret
agent by McWilliams told the daily mail on Tuesday that he isn't quite
what they are looking for. Robbie Williams has had a string of top ten
hits.
APR 24: Blade
2: Wesley Snipes had to be taken to a Prague hospital for treatment
after suffering burns from powerful spotlights on the set after
complaining of inflamed skin and tears running from his eyes. (ananova web
site)
APR 24: Ghost
Rider: While speaking at a recent convention scribe David Goyer
told fans that Nicolas Cage is near signing to star as Ghost Rider/Johnny
Blaze. In the story Blaze will have no control over Ghost Rider who goes
around killing people left and right, with Blaze having to pick up the
pieces. The story was modeled after Clint Eastwood's 'Unforgiven'. (cinescape)
APR
24: Matrix 2 & 3: Joel
Silver told Popcorn UK that the martial arts scenes in the upcoming Matrix
films surpass those in last years 'Hidden Dragon, Crouching Tiger'. Says
Silver, "People are not going to believe it, but that is what we have
to do, because a lot has happened since the first Matrix movie. Woo Ping,
who did the first Matrix film, did the choreography on the Hidden Dragon
has returned for the Matrix sequels as well. These two films should more
anticipated by fans than for the Star Wars Episode II.
APR 24: MIB2
rumor: It seems unlikely but Cinescape online is reporting a rumor
that Tommy Lee Jones may NOT be returning for the sequel as he has asked
for $40M to make the sequel. It seems unlikely since Lee already stated
months ago that business aspects were already in place and it was a matter
of the three main stars being available. I would throw this rumor in the
trash bin. Jones has never been a greedy actor and $40M would be a ridiculous
request for almost any actor, even Tom Cruise.
APR 24: Enterprise:
Doug Drexler, the illustrator from DS9, has been brought on board the new
series 'Enterprise' as a junior illustrator. He will be working in the
series art department designing and developing the visual look of the show
as well as computer displays, alien languages and logos. (startrek.com)
Hopefully we'll get to see some Matrix style uniforms or outfits on the
show rather than the drab Star Trek style uniforms. Imagine the captain in
a long black jacket and neo style boots, very cool.
APR 24: The
Strike: With the actors and writers union being over $100M apart,
if there is a strike many actors believe the strike will be a long one. If
neither dispute is settled, both unions could hit the picket lines,
freezing production in both the TV and film industries. A double strike
would halt production in the entertainment capital, leaving actors,
directors, caterers, drivers and everyone else employed by the business on
hold. The Writers Guild negotiations are separate from the actors' talks,
and yet their resolution would set the stage for their colleagues at the
Screen Actors Guild, who are expected to resume negotiations in mid-May.
APR 24: Sci-Fi
Fonts: Thanks to those of you that emailed the Sci-Fi Fonts site.
Sci-Fi 2000 will be getting the website within a month after the...
paperwork is handled. Thank to all of you, and look forward to Sci-Fi
Fonts here on Sci-Fi 2000.
APR 24: the
Howling: The original film with great special effects even for
today, is due on DVD in August from MGM.
APR 24: Killer
Klowns: It is time. August will bring us the release of the awesome
'B' flick, 'Killer Klowns From Outerspace'. This is a must have DVD for
any collection.
APR 23: Enterprise:
Variety is reporting that Paramount is set this week to announce that UPN
will be the home of the new Star Trek V Series, believed to be titled
'Enterprise'. Like any other channel would give a series
a seven year commitment. There was never really any doubt the new series
would be anywhere else.
APR 23: Josie
a Pussycat: Josie and the Pussycats, as I expected, hasn't turned
the boxoffice around with stellar showings. The movie is performing
dismally with a mere $11M since its opening. There are some stuff that
just doesn't relate to the big screen. Like... Scooby Doo. You can add
Josie and Scooby to the poo poo platter.
APR 23: Whedon
on Buffy: Creator Josh Whedon has tried to alleviate fans worries
by letting them know that the series may be relocating to a new network,
but will remain the same. They will be making the same episodes as before.
As for the website. UPN promises a new website before the WB pulls the old
one, or will hopefully be able to take over the old site and leave it as
it is. Buffy is also strike protected. Filming of the series will continue
even if there is a strike. Very cool.
APR 23: Justice
League: The animated series coming to the Cartoon Network will have
Mark Hamill voicing the Joker, Clancy Brown as Lex Luther. Also joining
the voice core will be... Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Carl Lumbly
(M.A.N.T.I.S.) as Martian Manhunter,
Maria Canals as Hawkgirl, Phil LaMar as Green Lantern, George Newborn as
Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and last but not least the Flash
being done by Michael Rosenbaum. I personally like the voices
in the original 'Superfriends' cartoon.
APR 23: It's
Back: Again the rumor has surfaced, this time in a Scottish paper
that Scottman Gerard Butler, a virtual unknown, is being considered to
take over the reins as James Bond, when Brosnan's contract is up. Yeah
right, Broccoli is going to hire some unknown actor to take on the role of
the famous 007. This is nothing but the rumor reported last month.
Same information and details.
APR
23: Sci-Fi Fonts: The Sci-Fi Fonts page I
link to in the contents page is closed. If you would like to the see the
site as part of this site so everyone still has access to the it, then CLICK
HERE and drop the webmaster an email letting them know
Sci-Fi 2000 would be a great place for the site to remain active. He is
looking for someone to take over the site. So, drop them an email, I
would appreciate it. Other fans might also as they look for Sci-Fi Fonts.
APR 23: UPN
Possibilities: Next season may find UPN with a full slate of genre
series. They could have 'Buffy', 'Angel', 'Enterprise', 'Seven Days',
'Special Unit 2', 'All Souls' and 'the Dead Zone'.
APR 23: Wolf:
The French film 'Le Pacte des Loup' aka 'Brotherhood of the Wolves' has
been picked up for US distribution by Universal Pictures. The French
language film stars 'The Crow series' Mark Dacascos, Monica Bellucci,
Jeremie Renier, Emilie Dequenne and Vincent Cassel. The picture has
grossed $35M in France.
APR 23: the
Company Man: The new thriller from 'Cube' director Vincenzo Natali
begins production next month will star Jeremy Northam and 'Charlie's
Angel's' star Lucy Lui. Northam will play an unwilling corporate spy that
only Liu can help get out of his predicament. Lucy Liu is also a co-star
on the comedy/drama series 'Ally McBeal'.
APR
23: Angel: It is possible that
the WB may pull the plug on Angel, the Buffy spin-off series just to get
out of the Buffy Franchise. The WB is concerned that dumping the series
would give UPN a viable Tuesday night line-up. With dwindling ratings the
WB is also concerned that Angel would suffer without the Buffy lead in.
So, there is an outstanding chance that UPN may get the entire Buffy
Franchise giving itself an outstanding Tuesday night line-up. It also gives
the option for UPN to add a series to those nights or even start a new
night, should 'All Souls' and 'Special Unit 2' become successful series.
APR 23: Trek
V: It is being reported from Trekweb.com that SFX Magazine has
reported that Star Trek V's pilot is budgeted for about $10M to $15M and
has a major seven year commitment. The new Enterprise will look bulkier
and much chunkier than previous Enterprise ships. Interior components will
be bolted to the hull rather than part of the walls.
APR 22: Buffy
Moves!!!: In an unbelievable move by UPN
and Fox Studios, 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' will be jumping to UPN in a
deal costing the network $102M for two years. UPN has ordered 44 episodes
of the series at approximately $2.35M per episode. The agreement also give
UPN the opportunity to pick up Buffy's spin-off series 'ANGEL' if it is
cancelled by the WB. Angel is on the bubble having gone head to head
against 'Dark Angel'. There is a small chance that the WB may axe the
series, though unlikely now with Buffy departing.
APR 22: Robocop
PD: Besides filling the 8 hr mini-series with way to many
commercials, there is talk now that the Sci-Fi Channel may air Robocop
Prime Directives this summer in one hour installments rather than the four
two-hour movie format they are filmed in. Nice job SFC. Told you guys,
this network should not have gotten the mini-series.
APR 22: UPN
Can Stay: The FCC has voted to abolish its ownership rules that was
forcing Viacom, who owns CBS, to fold/sell the fledgling network UPN.
Viacom can now keep UPN. It will also allow the WB to merge ownership with
NBC. Looks like UPN will be around for a while.
APR 22: Akira:
The animated movie is back. This time the $1M digitally refurbished
animated feature is being released to the big screen in the United States.
Pioneer Entertainment, who spent the money to restore the film, is
planning its DVD release in the US in the next few months. Akira came out
in 1988 and hit the US in 1989 from Katsuhiro Otomo.
APR 22: Spy
Kids: The Robert Rodriquez film dropped from the number one spot
after four weeks. Funny thing was, it wasn't to a first week feature.
Bridget Jones Diary leap frogged from #2 last week to the top spot, just
barely. Spy Kids took in $10.2M this week bringing its four week total
to... $86M. Not bad for a $34M film. Rodriguez recently pulled his name
from consideration to direct the new 'Superman' film currently in
development.
APR 22: Enterprise:
Trekweb & Section 31 are reporting some news about the new Star Trek
series from one of their sources. Here it is... The new Enterprise will
have a maximum speed of warp 4 and will get banged around quite a bit.
Gravity on the ship will be done using a gravity well. Our new starship
will be all switches and buttons similar to the original series. Grappling
hooks will be used since tractor beams aren't around yet, but the
transporter is. A lot of familiar stuff from the other series will not be
in this new series but we will get to see some of them come along as the
series progresses. The series will open with the relationship
strained between the Vulcans and Humans.
APR 21: Prey
Campaign: The fight is on! There have been rumbling of a PREY
sequel/movie on the Sci-Fi Channel. If YOU would like to see more of PREY,
then it's time to get off your butt and join the campaign to revive the show. Overseas
fans need to especially get into this campaign for the sequel movie. 'CLICK
HERE' for the save prey news with a link to the campaign site. To send a PREY postcard to a friend the 'CLICK
HERE'. They are still looking for a poster and maybe you can help
design it. Check the stuff out. There will also be a PREY chain reaction
next week. Don't miss it.
APR 21:
Immortal News: Rita Moreno was brought in to help increase the
ratings in the second season and possibly help renew the series for a
third. Unfortunately it cost co-star 'April Telek' her part in the series.
She will be relocating to Los Angeles in hopes of landing something there.
Thanks to Jeff who dropped the email to me.
APR 21: Goonies
DVD: August 21st is the street date for the Goonies DVD which will
include 'DELETED SCENES'. The will also be commentary by Richard Donner
and the music video from Cindy Lauper. This has been long anticipated by
fans who have been wanting the missing scenes.
APR
21: More CDR Labels: The VideoCD
labels are growing rapidly. Download your favorites today. Have added
Robocop, Invisible Man, V: the Series (2) and one for Witchblade (tnt's
new series due out this summer.) CLICK HERE for the CDR Label area and
check them out. Hell, let me know what you think of them.
APR
20: PREY News: Many of you may not
remember the short lived series 'PREY', and that is your loss. The 13
episode series likely has the most dedicated fans of any series. All their
hard work to save a show who's two main stars have moved on to
popular series is getting noticed. An extremely reliable source has sent
me an email with the following... 'In an interview
last week, Bill Schmidt, creator of Prey, admitted that he would be
delighted to see a sequel to PREY and sent this message to Prey
fans. "It's their intelligent response to the show,
their passion and their intelligence, and the way they've handled their
campaign, that has given any hope to the only 13 episode show that anyone
has kept alive. I feel grateful that there is a real chance people are
getting what they're doing." Other things are happening. If
your an active fan, keep doing whatever your doing. People in the right
places are watching. The wheels are turning.
APR 20: Cinescape
Trouble?: I have noticed that the Cinescape website hasn't been
updated since early last Friday morning with only one tidbit. The site had
already made a bad decision with two advertising pop-up windows. I am
wondering if the site is once again in trouble or again having server
problems. Any one have news about the site to pass on?
APR 20: Batman
Trouble: Apparently director 'Darrin Androfsky' has decided he will
not be directing his 'Batman: Year One'. Instead the actor told the
Brooklyn Academy of Music that he would directing another SF film to star
Brad Pitt. Aronofsky seems a bit put off with Batman saying... "Don't
believe the hype. It's a sequel." The director was carrying a copy of
'Tales of the Bat' with him. (CHUD)
APR
20: X-Men News: Halle Barry has told E
online that her character 'Storm' will have a closer relationship with
'Wolverine' in the sequel. Storm is to be a little more fleshy in the new
film. The character was hardly seen in the first film and wouldn't take
much to expand the role. The more... flesh seen the better.
APR 20: Lone
Gunmen & Dark Angel: The fledgling series scored a 5.4 rating
for the week of 3.12.01. Not a bad rating if the show was part of WB or
UPN. But is it enough for FOX? Dark Angel came in that same with with a
mid-six rating keeping fans wondering if the show will be given a
greenlight for season two. Both shows are on the bubble and we may not get
word on them until sometime after the May sweeps.
APR 20: Everquest:
Sony has announced a new expansion pack for it online game 'Everquest'.
The new pack is titled, Everquest: Shadows of Luclin. The expansion is
scheduled to release during the fourth quarter of this year.
APR 20: Superman...
I'll Pass: Robert Rodriguez (spy kids, the faculty) has removed his
name of potential directors of the upcoming 'Superman' project. Rodriquez
says he has to many projects lined up to direct the film. His name was on
a list that included 'Oliver Stone and Tim Burton'. His agent told
producer Jon Peters, his client just wasn't interested in doing the
film. (AICN)
APR 19: Jason
X: The tenth installment of 'Friday the 13th' has been pulled from
its August release date by New Line Cinema. A spokesperson said the
feature is not on its 2001 schedule and right now has no scheduled release
date. The studio has decided to hold on to the feature for awhile.
It is my belief that New Line doesn't want the film to go up against
'Ghosts of Mars', and the remake of 'Rollerball'. Plus the prior
month has 'Planet of the Apes', 'Jurassic Park III', and Final Fantasy's
release to worry about. There is also a floating rumor that Jason X
may become a straight to video release.
APR 19: They
Begins: The new feature, 'They' began filming this week in
Vancouver. (imagine that) The new film starring Laura Regan, Mark Blucas,
and Ethan Embry is being directed by Mark Harmon (starred in 'the
Presidio'). The film is the story of a woman who battles her fear of the
dark while having to take on terrifying night creatures. (variety)
APR
19: CSI #2: The new fledgling series
'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' was number two in the ratings. The series
has become a power house saddling up to the number one rated show,
Survivor. CSI... a series taken as an afterthought by CBS. The only
show the network really pushed before the season was the cancelled 'the
Fugitive'.
APR 19: Fans
Missed This One!!!: Are you happy with 'The Mummy'? Sommers did
that one. Do you think this summers, 'The Mummy Returns' will be good? I
sure do, and if you do then you have got to get down to the video store
and rent Sommers... 'DEEP RISING'. This is a kick ass action flick,
loaded with quality acting, solid humore, and wonderful special effects.
Remember I told you Sixth Day was a great flick? Hell, this one is too.
Don't expect anything, except being entertained and you'll have a blast.
APR 19: CBS
Moves Inside: CBS is planning to create a 'research center' inside
the MGM Casino in Las Vegas. They will conduct focus groups to find out
what the public will and will not watch. Las Vegas gets viewers from all
over the United States year round. CBS has said they will have two
screening rooms with high tech 'interactive' computer kiosks. They are
planning daily screenings and focus groups that will give viewer feedback.
CBS is owned by Viacom, who also owns UPN, MTV, Paramount Pictures, and
Nickelodeon.
APR 19: Beetlejuice
2: Since it will be a sequel it should be called Beetlejuice 0.
Regardless of the title the film, currently in development, will focus on
Beetlejuice before his death. Tim Burton did the first film which
was outstanding. The sequel sounds like a 'B' movie slated for direct to
video. (cinefantastique)
APR
19: Invisible Man: I have added a new
Invisible Man CDR to got with the VideoCD front that is on the site
already. Also added two V: the series CDR labels and a Knight Rider CDR
(it's ok but not what I hoped for). CLICK HERE
for the CDR section.
APR 19: Forsaken:
The new film again rehashes the Vampire scene with some new twists into
it. In this new film being a vampire is being treated as a desease.
The transformation can be postponed through medication or drugs, called
the cocktail, a mix of a bunch of drugs... The drugs however don't cure
anything. The only way to cure it is to kill them. The new take on
Vampires makes this film something worth taking a peak into.
APR
19: Andromeda Relocates: Got an email
from 'Acid Rain' letting me know that for your folks near Waco, Texas, The new
syndicated hit 'Andromeda' is relocating from UPN to Fox. It will premiere
on the network this Sunday at 9pm. Much better than UPN's 12am timeslot.
For fans of the show, you may want to check your local listings for other
possible moves.
APR 19: Special
Unit 2: UPN aired its second episode tonight of 'Special Unit 2'.
Well, I really like the series. Hell, this is a neat friggin' series and
has some potential. Unfortunately the series is on UPN which means very
limited advertising if any. At some point these idiot people will start
airing commercials on syndicated local networks, and even taking ads in
popular magazines, websites, and newspapers. S.U.2 looks like a possible
winner folks. Take a gander at the new series Wednesday nights at 8pm
before Voyager. Catch it before it's gone!
APR 19: India
Does Launch: India conducted a ``textbook'' test launch of
its biggest satellite rocket on Wednesday after technical trouble forced
the maiden flight to be aborted, space agency officials said. The
launch paved the way for India to join an elite band of nations able to
fire big satellites deep into space and could also give the
nuclear-capable country the ability to test a wide range of military
technologies, western defense experts say. The Geo-synchronous Satellite
Launch Vehicle, or GSLV-D1, put an experimental satellite payload of 3,000
pounds into the designated orbit 17 minutes after blasting off from
Sriharikota space port in southeastern India. Closed-circuit
cameras showed elated scientists hugging and congratulating each other
after Wednesday's launch that capped a 10-year project costing 14 billion
rupees ($300 million).
APR 18: Hugh
Who: British actor Hugh Grant has denied rumors that he has been
approached to star as Dr. Who in an upcoming BBC feature film that is in
development.
APR
18: Robocop PD: coming this summer to
the Sci-Fi Channel. Already aired in Canada. Download the CDR Label if
your planning to dub them to VideoCD. CLICK
HERE FOR THE THE CDR PAGE... A CDR label for Robocop, the series is
there also.
APR 18: Buffy
To Wed: Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar has gotten herself engage to
her present boyfriend 'Freddy Prince Jr.'. It was announced by the couple
during Gellar's 24th Birthday party last Friday. Prince is 25.
APR 18: Fox
Wars: Star Wars Episode One will now be pushed back to a November
release on Fox rather than its original April 29 premiere date. This is
being done due to a cool advertising dollar and hopes that it will be able
to suck more funds from companies later in the year. Rights to the picture
were expensive and Fox needs to recoup those funds.
APR 18: Beanstalk Blooms
Late: CBS has decided to delay its 'Jack and the Beanstalk' mini-series
for advertising too. The mini-series was due to release next month and
will now be pushed back until later this year.
APR 18: UPN/Viacom:
Federal regulators will consider ending the rule that prohibits the four
major networks from owning upstarts. This is a move that will allow Viacom
to maintain its ownership of CBS and fledgling UPN. Many still believe it
will not happen and Viacom will have to dump UPN. Viacom previously stated
that it would likely just close up the network rather than search for a
new owner.
APR 17:
Firestarter: The Sci-Fi Channel is moving swiftly forward on it new
Firestarter: the Next Chapter mini-series as production began April 17.
The Firestarter four hour mini-series will star Marguerite Moreau (Queen
of the Damned), Malcolm McDowell, Danny Nucci (The Rock), and
Dennis Hopper. Robert Iscover is directing from a script by Philip Eisner,
who wrote the horribly done 'Event Horizon'. (scifiwire)
APR
17: Gold Monkey: Added to the site, is
a new CDR Label for 'Tales of the Gold Monkey', which starred '7th
Heaven's' Stephen Collins. CLICK HERE for the complete CDR Listings.
Also on site are VCD, VHS covers sheets and labels. Enjoy the covers and
labels.
APR 17: Mutant
MIB Villain: X-Men's Femke Janssen (deep rising) is in
negotiations to star in Men In Black 2 as the features main villain. The
character she would play is Serleena. Janssen will also be reprising her
limited role as Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men 2. Production of MIB2 is
set to begin production before the writers strike and get as much done as
possible.
APR 17: Monaghan
Out: Section 31's... source has now confirmed that producers have
decided to pass on Marjorie Monaghan for the part of the Vulcan. That puts
the selection down to two ladies. This news really sucks! She
would have been good for the new series.
APR 17: Smelly
Underwear: the Material Girls underwear (Madonna's) is
apparently up for bid on online. The panties are carefully signed in the
crotch. The set includes matching panties and bra. The set is a studded
leather bra, with matching panties and includes explicit photos of Madonna
wearing the get-up. As of Tuesday morning the bidding was up to $1550 from
a starting price of $800. Big deal...
APR 17: DreamWorks
is Universal: Spielberg's 'DreamWorks' SKG distributes it features
through Universal Studios, and will continue to do so for another
five years. It was rumored that DW was working on a deal to move to Warner
Brothers. The deal with Universal also allows them the use of DreamWorks
characters and concepts as the basis for attractions in its theme parks.
APR 17: Teamsters
Will Work: If the writers do go on strike this summer the Teamsters
Union will not be honoring the strike.
"We usually honor other locals' picket lines. But if there is
a writers strike and there is work to be done, I'll support my members.''
says teamster head Leo Reed. The comments are the latest in a
series of developments that could bring new pressure on television and
film writers to settle their contract dispute with the studios.
APR 17: Sixth
Day: If Keannu Reeves or a Ben Affleck had starred in the
Swartzenegger flick 'the Sixth Day', currently on DVD, the picture would
have broken the $100M mark with ease. This was a wonderful picture that
most of you missed. That is your loss by the way. Arnold may be considered
a 'dinosaur' by some in the industry, but the once popular actor was great
in this film. If you haven't seen the movie rent it today. I have watched
the movie four times since getting the DVD. The Swarz may not be a great
actor, but he can still turn out a quality picture worth watching.
APR 16: Enterprise
Update: Seems that Marjorie Monaghan is in the running for the part
of T'Pau in the upcoming Trek V series, Enterprise. Monaghan played a
resistance fighter in the fourth season of Babylon 5. She has also played
in 'Space Rangers', 'Rescue 77' (paramedic series), and has appeared in
the series, the Pretender, ST: Voyager, the Sentinel and Quantum Leap. She
hasn't got the part yet, but is in the running. (section 31)
APR 16: Halloween
8: Dark Horizons is passing on some
information that the new Halloween film will be titled 'Halloween 8: the
Vengeful Legacy'. Script rewrites are underway from James Kershaw and Sean
Hood. halloweenmovies.com is
the official site. They have been having some server problems, so their
site might be having some problems here and there.
APR
16: Buffy DVD: The packaging for the new Buffy
Boxed set isn't very impressive from what I have seen. They could have
done a lot more with the outside images for the box and it looks... bulky. Take
a Look...
APR 16: Final
Destination 2: Production is slated to begin after the strike.
Another rewrite of the script should happen between now and then.
APR 16: Not
Bonding: For some reason Barbara Broccoli seems determined to get a
new Bond, though Brosnan has said he wants to continue playing the British
spy, 007. Now the rumored replacements being mentioned are not really that
well known. They are... the drum role please... 32 Scottish actor Gerald
Butler (who is having lunch with Ms. Broccoli this summer) and Colin
Wells. Yeah, right. These guys will really draw in the crowd to see 007.
Why not go with the Highlander, Adrian Paul? Familiar name, athletic, and
good lucking. And... he's Scottish.
APR
16: Pitch Black 2: Haven't heard
anything about this film since it was announced there would be a one.
APR 16: Spy
Kids: Joe Dirt was unable to sneak past 'Spy Kids' as it remained
number one at the box office over the Easter Weekend taking in $12.8M.
Dirt was number 4, with the thriller 'Along Came a Spider' at number 2 and
Bridget Jones Diary at 3. After just three weeks, the $32M picture
about Kids becoming spies to rescue their government agent parents, has
grossed an impressive $68.6M.
APR
16: Dark Angel: Two new VideoCD Covers
have been added to the site for Dark Angel. A new front and back
have been uploaded. Enjoy. CLICK HERE.
Still no word on the shows renewal for next season. Despite mediocre
ratings this season, with Cameron's name on it we may get another season.
Of course Joel Silvers name on UPN's 'Freedom' and 'the Strip' didn't help
them any.
APR 16: TiVo
is Watching You: Users of TiVo are just now finding out that the
company is gathering information about you. What you watch, even when not
using the TiVo system. TiVo admits that it's been gathering information
from its 154,000 subscribers and will continue to do so. The company says
it plans to sell the data on viewing habits to TV networks and advertisers
eager for details on the popularity of shows and the preferences of
viewers. But the company says it has never linked subscribers' personal
information to data about their viewing habits.
APR 16: Slow
Weekend: I know there wasn't much news this holiday weekend, but at
least I was here putting up the news I could find. And I thank all of you
for coming around this weekend. I had a great number of viewers over the 3
day weekend, thank you. Almost 4200 pageviews and 35000 raw hits on the
site for the three days. You guys are great!!!
APR
16: Framed: TNT is doing a new
psychological thriller titled 'Framed'. The new TV Movie will feature West
Wing's 'Rob Lowe'. The project is based on a British mini-series that
aired on A&E in the early 90's. Lowe will play Mike Santini, a New
York City detective who discovers the key witness in a money-laundering
case while on vacation in the Caribbean. Production is slated to begin in
early May. Wennipeg, Canada and the Bahamas will be the site of filming
for the project.
APR 16: Banner
Ads Suck: Time to dump the banner ads folks and actually get paid
to advertise on your site. Banner ads are killing the internet.
APR 16: $20M
Egghead: How much would you pay for an Egghead? IBM extended a $20M
line of credit to Egghead.com this past Wednesday. Egghead believes the
line of credit will help them move into profitability within the next
year. They will however be dumping about 77 employees or around 12% of
their workforce. In 1998 Egghead moved its entire business online and
became egghead.com. Their software business could not compete with
companies like CompUSA and Wallmart. No THAT is one expensive EGG.
APR 16: Pee
Wee the Drug Dealer: Paul Reubens makes an impressive acting
performance in the new Johnny Depp film 'Blow', as a gay drug dealer and
hair stylist. Many movie goers were impressed with Reubens. You go Pee
Wee!!!
APR 16: Atari
Re-released: Since Hasbro has purchased Atari, they will be
releasing Atari's old titles again. On the two CDs, Atari Arcade Hits 1
and 2, you'll find a slew of classic games including: Asteroids, Asteroids
Deluxe, Battlezone, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Gravitar, Millipede,
Missile Command, Pong, Super Breakout, Tempest, and Warlords. The
graphics, sound, and simplicity of the re-releases remain true to the
originals, but Hasbro's also thrown in a few goodies to make them more
exciting. You can customize the games for various lives and difficulty
levels. There're also "archive" sections with photos of old
promotional materials, cartridges, and game systems, and even extended
interviews with Atari's founder, and the father of the modern videogame,
Nolan Bushnell.
APR 15: Psycho
II: Lions Gate is pulling the trigger on a sequel to 'American
Psycho'. This time Mila Kunis will star in the picture. She is best known
for her role in Fox's 'That 70's Show'. The 'B' movie sequel is budgeted
for about $10M and begins production mid-May in Canada's, Toronto. The
first film made about $15M in the U.S. Kunis will play a co-ed who is the
rampaging killer.
APR 15: Phantom:
The new 'Phantom of the Opera' feature starring Antonio Banderas will not
be like the other remakes. They are not trying to follow the theatrical
version. They are creating a totally different concept. The new version
will even have new music. (uk media) They should take the
concept from... 'Phantom of the Paradise'. ;-)
APR 15:CDR
Labels: Two more CDR Labels have found their way to the site.
'the Addams Family' and 'the A-Team' are up on the site folks. Enjoy. VCD
AREA.
APR 14: Ventresca
No Fun Bobby: Sci-Fi's 'Invisible Man' Vincent
Ventresca played Fun Bobby on the series 'Friends'. Vincent
Ventresca, see -through lead in the SciFi Channel's
blockbuster hit, "The Invisible Man” was asked in a March 30, 2001
IGN sci-fi interview, if Fun Bobby has been invited to Monica Geller’s
wedding. Ventresca guested twice in Friends as Monica’s
former beau, Fun Bobby. "I thought they
would have him -- you'd want Fun Bobby at the wedding," laughed
Ventresca. " Will Monica invite Bobby to
attend the nuptials or would NBC rather he (and his several thousand fans)
stay invisible? Thanks to Joan at Perseus
Project.
APR 14: Enterprise:
Section 31 is reporting that well placed sources have confirmed the follow
tidbits about the new Star Trek series... Quantum Leap star, Scott Bakula,
apparently has the lead role as the Captain of the Enterprise. A
Babylon 5 cast member has been cast as the ships 'Vulcan' first officer,
name not released. The new starship is the SS Enterprise. The premise
takes place before the 100 year war with the Romulans, and the humans and
Vulcans are working towards forming a Federation. At
least early in the series we don't have deal with all the crappy
federation rules and regulations. This is something that could be Star
Trek with the Star Wars style theme thrown in, ala the short lived series
'Space Rangers'.
APR 14: Whoa
Mummy: With the release date so close, the Mummy Returns is still
in the process of shooting 50 scenes needed to close up the film.
APR 14: Angel
Comedy: Angel star David Boreanaz has joined the cast of 'I 'm With
Lucy' with Monica Potter. The comedy begins filming next week.
APR 11: Mutant
Trouble: Looks like the new 'Mutant X' series from 20th Century Fox
might get the axe before production ever starts. Marvel comics and 20th
are suing each other over the series. Naturally the suit has to do with
Mutant X and the X-Men franchis and agreements between both parties. Fox
is afraid the new series will ruin its X-Men development in progress and
Marvel maintains that it holds X-Men TV Rights. Currently Mutant X
has been sold to 90% of the television market. Production is set to
begin in Vancouver, June 4.
APR
11: First Wave Trouble?: While the
Sci-Fi Channel has greenlighted the fourth season of 'First Wave', Jeff of
Brethren Chronicles the official news of First Wave has dropped me an
email with a possible bomb... Pearson which distributes internationally was bought out by a German company,
Bartlesman AG, a
few days ago and they are contemplating ending all drama shows for North America. That division is to said to
be wiped out including First Wave and other shows. A decision hasn't been made yet, and one is expected in
the next couple of weeks. If Pearson decides to not keep it's drama programming for North America division
First Wave will cease unless Chris Brancato is able to find another plan. He really wants the show to
continue and is fighting on every level to keep it going. Thanks to Jeff
for the update! Anyone got some producing dollars?
APR 11: Deadman
Pilot: DC comics is head to television in the near future. Jason
Pomerance has delivered a script for a television movie which possibly
could be a pilot for a 'Deadman' series.
APR 11: Oh
Pee Wee!: Paul Rubens, who portrays the children hero Pee Wee
Herman, has announced that he will doing two Pee Wee Herman features back
to back.
APR 11: The
Tick: Comics2Film has parted with the news that 'the Tick' from
Fox will be part of the 2001 season, but won't hit the air waves
until November.
APR 11: The
Darkness: X-Men's, Anna Paquin has been signed to star in Jaume
Balaguero's horror project 'The Darkness'. Her family moves to house in
the wilderness. It turns into a house of horrors. The picture will be shot
in Spain. (variety)
APR 11: Bye
Mr. Rogers: In November 'Mr. Rogers Neighborhood will film its last
live episode. Fred Rogers, age 73, is rapping it up. Bought time the pott
smokin' dude hangem up. He always reminded me of Norman Bates of
Psycho. Imagine Norman Bates as your kids Sunday school teacher. Makes me
shiver.
APR 11: New
CDR Labels: Buck Rogers and Beauty and the Beast CDR Labels have
been added for your enjoyment. CLICK HERE
for the cdr page nearest you. Lots of labels there with more of them in
work. Dark Angel, First Wave, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Farscape, and lots
of others.
APR 11: Enchanted:
Frasier's David Hyde Pierce and Susan Sarandon are in negotiations to star
in Disney's live action/animated feature, 'Enchanted'. It is scheduled to
go into production at the end of the writers strike. The script is from
Bill Kelly and has rewrites by Rita Hsiao. Barry's Sonnenfeld and
Josephson will produce.
APR 10: TREK
V: Production is set to start within the next 30 days. Trek V sets
are in the final stages of completion. Still no official word on the
'Scott Backula' deal to captain the Enterprise. The latest rumor to warp
in from 'Trekweb' is that a war is on in the new series, as the Enterprise
is a warship and not a ship of peace. A Romulan is also rumored to be the
first officer. Prior reports indicated that T'Pau, a vulcan, would be
first officer.
APR
10: Battlefield Earth 2: Producers of
the first film, 'Battlefield Earth', which includes John Travolta are
still working on the sequel to the box office flop. Part two will cover
the events that take place after the first film. Why didn't Travolta and
crew take the $50M from this film and likely the next and do a 20 hour
mini-series of the book. The six hour dune mini-series on the sci-fi
channel was done for $20M.
APR 10: Battlefield
Animated: Pine Com International has committed to produce 20
one-hour episodes of 'Battlefield Earth'. Terl will be voice by Asian
actor Chow Yun-Fat. This is what I mentioned above for the live action
version.
APR 10: Star
Trek X: Hard to mention the new fifth Star Trek series without
touching on the new in development feature. The new film will once again
focus on Picard and Data, while the main story will be Picard vs the evil
villain. Why Picard and Data? Why not a new idea revolving around Worf and
Riker. William Riker was always an under used character, particularly in
the feature films. Riker is a throw back to Kirk, which myself and others
really like. At least the tenth film will be the final film dedicated to
just the cast of the Next Generation.
APR
10: First Wave Renewed: The Sci-Fi
Channel series 'First Wave', currently airing its third season has been
given the green light for its fourth. First Wave has aired through
episode 54 of its 66 episodes... It stars Sabastian Spence and Tracy
Elizabeth Lords. First Wave airs Saturday nights at 9pm on the Sci-Fi
Channel.
APR 10: Rambo
4: Jack Rambo won't be coming to the big screen, according to
Stallone. He would love to do another one but doesn't think he would look
good in a thong anymore. Sly also believes he is to old to do another
Rambo picture. (cindy perlman of cinescape)
APR 10: Deep
Blue Sea 2?: Renny Harlin has announced he is working on a sequel
to 'Deep Blue Sea'. The script is currently in development and Harlin will
pass the directing reins to someone else this time. The story MAY revolve
around a little seaside town that might get flooded. Harlin's next project
coming to the big screen is 'Driven'. (dark horizons) While some of
the special effects weren't the best, Deep Blue Sea was great film. It was
entertaining and action packed to the max. A totally underrated
film.
APR 10: Defiance: Pierce Brosnan has inked a deal with
Phoenix Pictures to produce and star in an action- adventure film titled,
'Defiance'. He will play the leader of a renegade band of soldiers
fighting a totalitarian government. Beau St. Clair will produce the film
with Brosnan from a script by Todd Baker.
APR 10: Bond
20: Speaking of Brosnan. James Bond and his 20th film begin
production in January 2k2.
APR 10: Meaney
Series: Another Next Generation and Deepspace Nine co-star is
working on television again. Now it's actor Colm Meaney, treks enlisted
chief engineer, will be doing 'Random Passage' which is filmed in New
Zealand. However, the new series will air on CBC Television so we in the
US will not be seeing the series. Hopefully we might get to see the
engineering chief return in Star Trek X.
APR 10: NBC
Screwed Up: NBC Internet will be closing soon. The assholes at NBCi
have managed to loose $245M in revenues. These stupid companies amaze me
that the internet portion of their company isn't part of the main company.
These should be supplements to the main company and NOT a company on its
own. Stupid management with these big companies. Morons. 300 works will
get their walking papers from this fiasco.
APR
10: Apes Note: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, a
great character actor in Hollywood is playing an ape in 'Planet of the
Apes' name Krull. He happens to be the same ape you see on the poster for
the film. His character is mostly in scenes with the princess, played by
Helena Bonham Carter. He can also be scene without the make-up in the
upcoming Ben Affleck blockbuster film 'Pearl Harbor'. Some of Tagawa's
credits include TV series 'Space Rangers', 'Seven Days', 'Walker: Texas
Rangers', 'Star Trek: the Next Generation', and 'Stargate SG-1'. He even
had a large role in the film Mortal Kombat and the Phantom.
APR 10: Fletch
Returns: The Fletch remake from Kevin
Smith who will produce has been given the green light. Jason Lee has been
signed to play the part of Fletch. Chevy Chase, who made the character
famous, is not even getting a cameo, believes it is his character and no
one can reproduce Fletch.
APR 10: Bad
Boys II: Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are interested in reprising
their characters in a sequel to the 1995 feature, 'Big Boys'. The sequel
is still in development with Bruckheimer Films and Columbia Pictures. (hollywood
reporter)
APR 9: Spy
Kids #1 Again: Despite the new competition at the box office 'Spy Kids'
snuck in at number one with $17.8M over the weekend upping its two week
total to $49M. Not bad for a $36M picture.
APR 9: Dan
Tanna Returns: Well, not the series but Robert Urich (Vegas &
Spenser For Hire) will star in a new comedy series with the Bandit, Burt
Reynolds. The new series is titled, 'Late Bloomers.' Nice to see Urich
back even though it is just in a comedy series.
APR 9: Dr.
Strange: Director FX/action specialist 'Chuck Russell' not only has
Swartzenegger's Doc Savage film on his pallet, but it also planning to do
Marvel's feature film, 'Dr. Strange.'
APR 9: Blow:
The depressing feature 'Blow' starring Johnny Depp was given a three out
of four rating, blew at the box office coming it at number three, while
Morgan Freeman's 'Along Came a Spider' webbed its way to number 2 with
$17.1M. Blow, hmmmm, it really does.
APR 9: Swimfan85:
A new teen pychological thriller from director John Polson is set to begin
production next month in New York. Up for the lead roles are Erika
Christenson (traffic) and Roswell's Shiri Appleby.
APR 9: Adam
West: It's been over 30 years since Batman aired new episodes. Adam
West still believes that he is type cast as Batman. A reason why he has
had a hard time finding work. He has been offered pay days in the
neighborhood of $500K & $1M overseas to done the cape for
commercials wearing the mask, but the studio would not allow West to
appear in public or a commercial wearing the costume. West continues to
work in small roles but believes playing the Bat hurt his career. He is
currently a super villain in the Roger Corman Sci-Fi Channel series 'Black
Scorpion'.
APR 8: Legacy
Virus: Coming Attractions has posted a possible storyline being
used for 'X-Men II' is the Legacy Virus. A deadly human-made virus that
attacks only mutants.
APR 8: Grandpa
Lives: Everyone, of every age group should remember who the 'Munsters'
are. They even have a new Vegas video game designed after the series.
Well, the lovable vampire, known as Grandpa (Al Lewis) is still alive and
kicking at the ripe age of 90. Eddie does workshops in Florida. Lewis'
movie career has spanned over 70 years. He currently has a daily radio
show. The Munsters are nearly 36 years old now. Fred Grandy (Herman
Munster passed away in 1993) Thought some of you might be interested.
Addams Family and the Munsters were great genre comedies, even today.
APR 8: Genre
Pages Wanted: Interested in doing a TV Series Fan page for this
site? Drop me an email and lets talk about it. I am in search of fan pages
similar in design to what is on the site. If you would like to do one, EMAIL
ME. More sites are needed. I prefer sites for series that don't have
that much support on the web. Shows like Munsters, Addams Family,
Harsh Realm, Rescue 77, Logan's Run, War of the Worlds, and any
others.
APR 8: Spy
Kids II: Originally director Robert Rodriguez had wanted to start
the sequel to his Spy Kids hit the day the movie opened. But with the
strike put it off. Says Rodriguez, "I really wanted to shoot before
the strike. The little boy in the film is 8 so he's ok, but the little
girl is 12." So he may have to refine the script, rewriting the
heroine, Carmen, a little older. Rodriguez though will be using the
strike time to his benefit putting together a lot of the special effects
ahead of time and put the movie together. Then he has everything except
the actors. Rodriquez does his own special effect which keeps his budgets
low. Spy Kids was done with a mere $36M.
APR 8: Walker
Ends: Filming of the final Walker: Texas Ranger has been completed.
Walker returns from hiatus on April 14 with new episodes, and the two hour
finale will air May 12. The Chuck Norris series has kicked out 203
episodes over eight season. Norris says it is time to move on. His next
job is a sequel to his CBS movie last year, 'the President's Man'. He'll
reprise the role of a mysterious man the President calls on to handle
crisis situations.
APR 8: Mars
Odyssey: NASA has launched its latest Mars Mission on Saturday,
sending a spacecraft the size of a small car to search for water on the
'Red Planet'.
APR 8: V
Mini-Series: The Digital Bits website is reporting that V: the
Original Mini-Series DVD is scheduled for JULY.
APR 8: Def Con
4: There is
a bunch of 'B' Movies scheduled for release from now through 2002 which
include Def Con 4, the Beastmaster, the Stepford Wives, Evil Dead: Limited
Edition, Re-animator, Spacecamp. and Timerider.
APR 8: Drive
Ins Pissed Off: Disney has told the United Drive In Theatre Owners,
that they will not be allowed to air the action film 'Pearl
Harbor' for more than a month after its May 25th release. No
reason was given for the decision. Theatres only have about 10 to 12 weeks
out of the year to make their money. This is not fair to them or the
viewing public who enjoy attending outdoor theatres. Disney declined to
comment in the article in the weekend edition of USA Today.
APR 8: Goonies:
Extended Version: Yep, it is apparently coming to DVD mid-october.
At least according to the Goonies Homepage. The new DVD is supposed to
have deleted scenes as well as extended scenes. Whether all this will be
in the feature presentation or as extra material is unknown, but it will
be included on the disc. Yoo Hoooo!
APR 7: Voyager
Finale: What do we have to look forward too? Admiral Janeway
(though she is a fake Janeway), Captain Harry Kim, and the Paris, Torres
adult daughter. We also get to see Reginald Barkley, and of course the
Borg with their queen played by 'Susanna Thompson'.
APR 7:
Dracula World: This isn't a movie title, but a theme park Romania
wants to open up. The theme park is expected to cost $60 million and
should be open by 2002, in an as yet undisclosed location widely thought
to be in either Transylvania or near the capital Bucharest, where Prince
Vlad (Vlad the Impaler) is buried. Prince Vlad is a national hero in
Romania, but he's better known to the rest of the world as Vlad the
Impaler, the Machiavellian ruler of Wallachia, a Romanian province that
bordered Transylvania, home of the fictional Count Dracula. The
Romanian government plans to attach a Dracula Institute to the theme park,
with conference facilities and a library. "This institute will
allow us to maintain permanent contact with some 4,000 Dracula clubs
around the world," says Tourism Minister Matei Dan, who announced the
plan last week.
APR 7: Mummy Site
Open: The Mummy site has been
relaunched with new flash material. You can check it out at themummy.com.
APR 7: Macabre
Remake: Robert Zemekis is considering helming the $25M budgeted
remake of Macabre. Writer Victoria Strouse will attempt to... modernize
the script from William Castles original work. Dark Castle is producing
this one and is considering a remake of Castle's other classic 'the
Tingler'. (variety)
APR 7: Neelix
Ready to Move On: Ethan Phillips who plays Neelix on Voyager, is glad for
the opportunity to do Voyager but is ready to move on. Says Phillips,
"I've had enough of the make-up. I will never let myself go through
that kind of process again."
APR 7: Dark
Angel: Ratings for first year series 'Dark Angel' continue to come
up in the mid 6's. For the cost of creating the series every week these
ratings may be enough for cancellation. Series such as 'Now and Again',
'the Pretender', 'Profiler', 'the Others', and 'Early Edition' were all in
the mid to high six ratings when they got the axe. Having the name 'James
Cameron' attached may give the series a second season, but there will have
to be some retooling in an effort to get an increase in the ratings.
APR 7: TNN
Update: TNN is making its move to fight with the big boys like TNT
& the USA Network. TNN is financing three of it own original series,
none of them in the genre catagories but have purchased the repeat rights
of Star Trek's, Deepspace Nine, Next Generation, and Voyager along with
first year hit repeats of 'C.S.I.'. The network has also purchased the
repeat rights to 'Baywatch' which they will air multiple times during the
week.
APR 7: Trek Lost
Scenes: Star Trek: Generations has
bunch of cut scenes. Section 31 is
posting those scenes on their site one at a time, due to bandwidth
problems. Check it out.
APR 7: Trek
X Director: Michael Dorn, who portrays the Klingon Worf in the
feature films and television series told everyone at the Grand Slam
Convention, that if anyone from the cast directs the movie it will be
LeVar Burton rather than Jonathan Frakes. There is also a rumor that
Troi and Riker characters will get married in the next and final film that
will feature the full Next Generation cast.
APR 6: Captain
Backula: According to the Canadian TV Guide and TrekWeb Scott Backula has been
signed to star in the upcoming 'Star Trek V' series. The new series is
scheduled to ramp up soon, so information is due to come out soon on
casting. On the other side, a source at 'Aint It Cool.com' has posted
notice that Mr. Backula is no longer in the running for the role. One
report is that Paramount is no longer interested, and other that Bakula
pulled out. They could an episode on how he 'Quantum Leaped' into the role.
:-) Knowing Trek writers and the CONSTANT time distortions they use it
could happen. Really... it could. At least in the new series we won't be
stuck with episodes in the Holodeck.
APR 6: Reeves
Ex Dies: Keannu Reeves is distraught over the death of his
ex-girlfriend, 29 yr old Jennifer Syme, who died in an automobile accident
after her car ran into three parked cars. The accident is believed to be
caused from drugs she had taken for her depression. They also found a
white substance on a role of bills in the car which is being checked for
drug residue. Syme's depression came about from her daughter, and Reeves,
being still born a few months ago.
APR 6: Pern
Dead: Michael Moore wanted a classy interesting show, and the WB
wanted another Buffy/ Xena esque type series. So the plug was pulled just
two days before production was to begin. Listen folks, this was a series
that was ready to role before the cameras. CGI was lined up, set were
built, and the production team set. This would have been a unique and
great series and the WB wanted another typical series with dragons instead
of vampires. Gimme a break Warner Brothers, expand yourselves...
APR
6: 3rd Rock Ends: While we all
knew the series was over, it has been made official by NBC.
The six year series will end in a one hour special on May 22.
Before this announcement star 'French Stewart' had already signed on
to a new series pilot for the fall. 3rd Rock From the Sun returns
with new episodes on Tuesday, April 17. Liam Neeson and John Cleese
will appear on the series when it returns
APR 6: Roswell:
Once again the WB series 'Roswell' will be undergoing some major changes
when it returns later this month. The series fate however remains
dependant on its performance over the remaining episodes during the May
sweeps.
APR 6: Superfly:
Another 70's character 'Superfly' is heading to the big screen. Once
thought to be a Warner Bros. and Joel Silvers project is now in the hands
of Universal with Brian Grazer and scribe Nick Pileggi (goodfellas)
producing a script by Steve Zaillian who also scripted Hannibal and
Shindler's List. (chud)
APR 6: Nancy
Drew: ABC TV is close to making a deal for the Nancy Drew
mysteries. The network is planning to adapt one book into a telefilm.
Based on its performance they will have the option to do more films or a
regular TV series. (variety)
APR 6: Hulk
Status: Ang Lee is hoping to begin production on the new
feature next year on the Incredible Hulk, which he has no idea the story
he will use. Hey Lee, there is a thing called the comic book. Maybe you
should check them out.
APR 6: Firespill:
An action disaster film has been picked up by MDP Worldwide. A script by
Matt Oppenheimer based on a book by Ian Slater. The film is budgeted for
around $70M and is due to begin pre-production in the fall. So far there
is no cast or director attached to the film. Firespill tells the story of
two tanker that collide and cause a monstrous oil spill that catches
fire. A massive firestorm that causes danger to the coast line and the
President of the United States who is on vacation. (variety)
APR 6: Witchblade:
The new limited edition series from TNT finally has a day and timeslot. It
will air in June on TNT, Tuesdays at 9pm EST.
APR 5:
the Dead Zone: Another Deepspace Nine actor
has a new gig. Nicole DeBoer told the Sci-Fi Wire that she has snagged the
female lead in UPN's new series 'The Dead Zone' based on the novel from
Stephen King. She will costar with Anthony Michael Hall (Out of Bounds,
Pirates of Silicon Valley) They are planning to have the pilot and one
episode in the can before the impending strike. Same as the new Trek V
series.
APR 5:
X-Men II: Scribe David Hayter has told the
comics continuum that he has been signed to pen the sequel to the X-Men.
He has no idea what the story is going to be YET, but he is excited to be
onboard.
APR 5:
Witchblade: TNT has opened its new site area
for 'Witchblade'. However, we all know that most official sites don't
offer much. It will take the fans to put together a quality site. If you
would like to check out the site CLICK
HERE.
APR 5:
Rock Nukem: Dark Horizons is reporting that
the Rock has officially been offered the role of 'Duke Nukem'. He is
their first choice, but will he sign on.
APR
5: Stolen Spider: Four Spiderman
Costumes designed for actor Tobey McGuire were stolen from the films
set in Los Angeles. Columbia Pictures has issued a $25000 reward for
their safe return. There are enough costumes that it will not affect
the films deadlines. Yunno this is an inside job.
APR 5:
Skull 2: The sequel to the frat thriller the
Skull begins filming Monday in Toronto. The first film did decent at the
box office. Not a bad movie, especially when compared to... Battlefield
Earth.
APR 5:
Bowie Goes For Blood: Singer, songwriter and actor, David Bowie
will be playing Dracula in an upcoming Italian made for TV Movie remake of
'Dracula'. It is slated to air in the fall. (canada's Jam)
APR 5:
Just Visiting: This new feature from Disney
is likely to be just that in the theatres... Just Visiting. Previews for
the feature have been plain and terribly boring. Might have done better as
one of Disney's direct to video features. I won't be spending even matinee
dollars on this one.
APR 5:
Pitt Goes Sci-Fi: Brad Pitt, who has been
selecting a mess of crappy roles of late, is in serious talks to star in
an as yet un-named SF picture for Warner Brothers. Darren Aronofsky, who
is working on Batman: Year One is writing and will direct the feature
film.
APR 5:
Spidey Accident: The second Spiderman
accident has occurred. This time it hasn't been fatal as Tobey McGuire's
stunt double has been seriously injured which includes a broken leg.
Stuntman Zack Hudson was taken immediately to UCLA Medical Facility where
he still remains, his condition unknown. It happened during a scene where
Hudson was to crash through a wall and skimming a second wall. Hudson
crashed into the second wall. It is unknown whether the accident
will cause a delay in the May 2002 scheduled released date.
APR 5:
X-Men Awarded: The X-Men has been nominated
for 10 Saturn Awards. Grinch was nominated for 8. On the Television Side
of things Buffy hit with the most nominations with 7 mentions in cross
sections of categories. Also nominated from televisions was the X-Files,
Star Trek Voyager, Dark Angel and Angel.
APR 5:
Xbox News:
Microsoft has denied reports they are behind schedule on the release of
the new gaming system due this year. John O'Rourke, director of Sales and
Marketing, is saying the XBOX is on schedule for its release in the fall
of this year. Microsoft will spend $500M just to market the new game which
is slated to compete with Sony's Playstation and Playstation 2.
APR
4: CDR Series Labels Added: Some
new CDR labels have been added today. Dark Angel, Forever Knight,
Buffy, Love Boat, A new Scorpious Farscape label and the Time
Tunnel. If your dubbing your own series to VideoCD then this is the
place to look. CLICK HERE to go straight to the CDR Labels Page.
APR 4: Fandom.com
Ceases: Fandom.com has announced it will cease ALL ONLINE SERVICES.
For now the fan based sites of Fandom.com will remain live for the
time being. Cinescape online will also remain operating as an
investor is found. If not, Fandom.com will go dark.
APR 4: Rock Nukem:
Coming Attractions is reporting a rumor that Scorpion King & WWF
favorite 'The Rock', Dwayne Johnson, is being considered to star in the
upcoming/ in development 'Duke Nukem'.
APR 4: Fox Smart?:
If you were producing two shows, would you air one against the other? Well
Fox is doing it. They produce Buffy, Angel and Dark Angel, though the
first two air on the WB (for now). Fox is airing its Dark Angel against
Angel. This has drastically hurt the series Angel having to go head to
head with Cameron's new expensive series. This just doesn't sound like
good business to me. Sounds... stupid, but hey... that's Fox for ya.
APR 4: Darth Maul
Returns: Ray Parks official newsletter has indicated that 'Darth
Maul' will return in Episode 3. (dark horizons) Likely he will
battle Darth Vader for who will be Emperor's right hand.
APR 4: the
Fugitive: It appears that CBS's hard pushed series 'The Fugitive'
is a goner at the end of its season and will not see a second. The show is
reportedly expensive to make, due to so many location shoots and has
fallen drastically in the ratings since its premiere. This show is
horrible and should never have gone beyond the pilot TV Movie.
APR 4: Gary &
Mike: UPN's claymation, 'Gary & Mike' has pretty much set
itself for the old toy bin. The series is unlikely to return. This is a
series which UPN killed Joel Silver's 'Freedom' for. Nice job guys!
APR 3: Pern Gone:
A WB spokes person has announced the plug has been pulled on it TV version
of 'Dragonriders of Pern'. This is the second time a series based on the
books by Anne McCaffery has died. Fuck!
APR 3: 7 Days:
The never talked about, and underrated TV Series '7 Days' is likely for
renewal according to series producer, Tom Ropelewski. 7 Days is UPN's
second most watched hour behind Voyager. Says Ropelewski, "If your
losing your number one rated show do you cancel your number 2 rated
show?". 7 Days will finish up its third season after Special Unit 2
finishes with its time slot after its 6 episode run. If it was any other
network, he feels the series would be cancelled. But I think if was on
another network it might have a much larger audience too.
APR 3: Wolf Lake:
The new series cast will feature Graham Greene joining the already signed
Lou Diamond Phillips, and Tim Matheson for the supernatural pilot movie
for CBS.
APR 3: Taking
Lives: Jennifer Lopez is negotiating to star as an FBI agent in
Tony Scott's crime thriller 'Taking Lives'. Lopez has backed out of her
role to portray Mexican star Frida Kahlo. Wonder is she'll get
another chance to show of her bust in this film. She seems to be into
this.
APR 3: Madonna:
Anyone care that Madonna has announced a concert tour? Didn't think so.
APR 3: Saint
Sinner: The Sci-Fi Channel is working with Clive Barker on a new
two-hour original movie which is presently titled 'Saint Sinner'. This epic tale of
redemption, suspense and horror finds a 19th-century monk unwittingly unleashing two beautiful female
demons upon the world. Even worse, the demons escape into the future, and the monk must track them to present-day Los Angeles to stop them
from wreaking deadly havoc.
APR 3: No Craven:
Wes Craven's pilot movie for UPN has been passed over by the network. The Craven project, which he
was to produce and direct, is a thriller that centers on a wealthy male entrepreneur and a female artificial-intelligence specialist and their exploration
of the supernatural. There have been problems with casting which lead to
the problems with UPN. It will be shopped around to other networks.
APR 3: Crusade:
The Sci-Fi Channel will begin airing the short lived 'Crusade' series
April 9th in the order suggested by creator JMS. However, the SFC will
only be airing the series once through at this time. So, if you don't have
the series get them VCRs ready.
APR 3: Mutant X
update: The new series has hired a stunt coordinator out of Hong
Kong. The official website reports they have cast three of the five
leads and at least one of them will be a familiar face to the fans.
APR 2: Catwoman:
Variety is reporting that Ashley Judd has been signed to play 'Catwoman'
that Warner Brothers has put on the fast track. John Rogers is currently
working on the script for the film. This puts the Batman franchise with
three films in work. One based on the Batman: Year One comic book. Another
based on the Batman Animated series, and now a third based around Catwoman.
APR
2: Terminator 3 Rumor: Dark
Horizon has posted a scoop that Carrie Ann Moss of Matrix has been
cast to play the female terminator in the upcoming film. I
personally find it hard to believe when Matrix is filming two films
back to back and should be filming when Terminator 3 begins filming.
(depending on the strike. Both would stop filming if the strike
happens.)
APR 2: Austin 3:
Dark Horizon's has confirmed that Robert Wagner, number two, has been
asked to return for the third film which Mike Myers is scripting now.
APR 2: Scorpion
King delay: Scorpion King and Arac Attack release dates have been
pushed back from late 2001 to the summer of 2002.
APR 2: X-Men 2:
Bryan Singer told SFX Magazine that he would like to explore Wolverine's
background that was hinted at in the first film. He would also like to
have the Beast in the next film, but can't say whether 'Dark Phoenix' and
'the Sentinels' will show up. The story will continue with the war that
Magneto said was coming with the humans.
APR
2: Trek V: Brannon Braga told
the Sci-Fi Wire that Paramount will be releasing some details about
the new series in the next few weeks. He did say they were aiming at
a fall premiere on UPN. Ain't It Cool News has a supposed pilot
script review with tidbits about the new series that everyone
already knows about.
APR 2: Episode
One DVD: The Force.net is reporting that the Star Wars: Episode One
DVD is complete and has been checked for quality control. The reported DVD
is set to have 20 minutes of extra footage, which includes the waterfall
scene and Anakin's fight with the young Greedo.
APR 2: Man Thing:
Artisan and Marvel have hired Hans Radionoff to script a proposed 'Man
Thing' film. Man Thing is a slight spin on the more known 'Swamp
Thing'.
APR 2: Touched By
An Angel: A new cast member joins the angel based series in the
form of 'Valerie Bertinelli'. Her first episode with the series airs April
29. She teams with Roma Downey. Bertinelli is married to Eddie Van Halen.
APR 2: Electa-Woman:
The Sid & Marty Kroft project Electra Woman and Dyna Girl have cast
their stars. The series will star Markie Post (Night Court) and Anne
Stedman. The new series is being created for the WB Network. Other
Kroft projects in work include H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, Sigmund
and the Sea Monsters and The Bugaloos.
APR 2: Smallville:
the pilot for the new WB series Smallville on the verge of wrapping. All
that is left will be the addition of the special effects, which does not
include the man of steel in his blue and red suit. (Comics Continuum)
APR 1: Genre $$$:
Spy Kids was number one at the box office this weekend sneaking in with
$27M, while Joel Silvers 'Exit Wounds' increased its four week total to
$41M. Spy Kids was done for a budget of just $36M.
APR 1: Damn You
Cypher: Coming Attractions is reporting that Matrix bad man 'Cypher'
might be returning for a cameo in the sequel. Joe Pantaliano, who played
Cypher, was on the local UPN affiliate KMSP channel 9 talking mostly about
his role in the Sapranos, but dropped a hint he will be having a day of
shooting on the set of Matrix 2. It seems the Wachowski brothers are
superstitious and consider him a good luck charm.
APR 1: First Wave Goes
Comic: The
Sci-Fi Channel original series 'First Wave' will be getting itself comic
booked by Andromeda Entertainment. First Wave: Heart of a Killer will ship
next week. The second comic First Wave: Jordan Radcliffe, based on the
third season character played by Traci Elizabeth Lords, will hit shelves
in late May. (comic continuum)
APR
1: Witchblade Filming: The new
limited edition series is currently in production, and should be in
the can prior to it airing in June. The TNT series starring Yancy
Butler (mann & machine) is being shot in Toronto. Should the
short run series be successful, there would be more. Witchblade will
have a continuous story arch through the entire run, with smaller
stories in each episode. Hopefully TNT will handle this series
better than it has its other first run series.
APR 1: Xena
Filming Ends: Lucy Lawless and her character will hang the sword on
the mantle as the series wraps filming its final episode this Friday. The
33 year old actress isn't talking about the finale. "You'll have to
watch and find out." she says. Lawless has no plans for work after
the series. And she isn't in a hurry to step into another series anytime
soon. Xena has been filming in New Zealand since 1995. A location that
seems rough on the actors, at least according to them.
APR 1: Lassiter
Signs: Oscar winning director 'John Lasseter' has signed a 10 year
contract with Pixar Animation Studios. Lasseter is the director behind the
Toy Story movies, A Bugs Life, and the upcoming release of 'Monsters Inc.'
November 2. He three released have grossed $1.2B. Unfortunately Pixar is
attached with Disney, which distributes the films.
APR 1: More
Effects for Less Money: Just ask Robert Rodriquez how to do special
effects on a tight budget. Here is some of his ideas. Super special
effects in movies are generally synonymous with huge budgets, often
topping $100 million. But effects don't have to cost big bucks, says
director Robert Rodriguez, whose $36 million Spy Kids (opening
today) has more effects than the big-budget Gladiator and The
Perfect Storm. "The first person you hire in Hollywood is
an effects supervisor," Rodriguez says. "That was the first
person I didn't hire." He used off-the-shelf f/x software and did the
Kids effects himself. "If you can decide in advance what you
want, you can save a ton of money." It's a risky corner to
cut, however. Low-budget effects films have yet to make an impression at
the box office. Dungeons & Dragons, for example, cost only $36
million but grossed a miserable $15.2 million.
APR 1: The
Oblongs: This is a disgusting animated series. There is nothing
funny about this mean spirited series from the folks a the WB. It has been
compared to a parody of 'the Addams Family'. Give a break. This suck ass
animated cartoon is WAY off the mark. Horrible!
