31: Invisible Man To Disappear?: As
the Invisible Man, on the SFC, wraps up production of season two -
season three has yet to be announced and may not be happening at all. All
indications from the Sci-Fi Channel seem to be that I-Man may have
had its funding pulled. It isn't written in stone yet... but knowing the
Sci-Fi Channel and the way the do business, it doesn't look good. You like
I-Man? Let the bastards at the Sci-Fi Channel know about it!
Aug
31: Fathom: James Cameron's 'Lightstorm
Entertainment' will be co-producing a live action feature based on the
comic book series 'Fathom' from Top Cow Comics for 20th Century Fox. (comics
continuum)
Aug
31: Alien 5: Sigourney Weaver
continues to talk about an Alien 5 feature and did mention in an interview
with 'Empire Online' that she has been talking to some people about the
project. Weaver did mention previously that she was willing if they had a
decent script and threw $20M her way she would be willing. $20M? How the
hell did she get that figure? I wouldn't give the 53 year old actress $3M
to star in the Alien 5 sequel. Listen up Hollywood! Revive the franchise
using 'Steve Perry's' trilogy. It was awesome!
Aug
31: Rocky 6: MovieHole.com is
reporting via Stallone's official website that Rocky 6 is still on. Due to
budget restraint's (no one wanting to pay for the film to be made.) some
tweaking on the script became necessary. Stallone is also planning a
broadway play based on the films. I'd rather see the 'Stayin' Alive'
braodway play from when he directed the Travolta sequel to 'Saturday Night
Fever'. He will only write the dialogue and not star in the play.
Whew!
Aug
31: Lost Ark DVD:
thedigitalbits.com website has information that the First Indiana Jones
film 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' is tentatively scheduled for release in
2002. Bout Time! The friggin' trilogy should have been release a year
ago!
Aug
31: More B5 DVD: Looks like some
more Babylon 5 titles are on the schedule for release in the near future.
(I don't know which ones, yet) However, it doesn't look like Warner
Brothers has gotten with the program to release them in seasonal boxed
sets. Well, no one has ever really accused Warner of being... bright.
Aug
31: Charmed: Hey, Freddie Kruegger
will be turning up on the WB this season. Robert Englund will guest on
'Charmed' in the October 11th episode 'Size Matters'. He will of course
play a demon, and be named Gammill. (Zap2It.com)
Aug
31: Last Man Delayed: Cate
Blanchette is pregnant and due in December so Warner Bros. is pushing back
the Brad Pitt/Aronofsky Sci-Fi film and will begin production during the
summer of 2002. Darrin Aronofsky will tweak on the script until then as he
continues to work on his 'Batman: Year One' script with Frank Miller. This
one isn't likely to get made at all.
Aug
29: Daredevil from Soap: Coming
Soon is reporting a rumor that very soon Days of Out Lives star Drake
Hogestyn will be announced for the lead roll as the Marvel Comics blind
superhero 'Daredevil'.
Aug
29: Smallville: First no flying,
and now no red and blue tights. Why the hell make the series about
Superman? Why not just some other young kid with super powers? Without the
flying and the cape it really isn't 'Superman' or 'Superboy'. It is
just... a teen superhero WB series.
Aug
29: MIB2: Barry Sonnenfeld revealed
to the Sci-Fi Wire that Linda Fiorentino's character 'L' will not be
returning in the sequel. That sucks, her character was great. It will be
dealt with off camera in the film. I was looking forward to seeing
her in the sequel. She was the only co-star not asking over $20M to
return.
Aug
29: Sci-Fi Film Festival: That's right fans, the first annual Sci-Fi Film Festival is
being held in London in February 2, 2002. Check out their site and get there
if you can... Sci-Fi-London.com.
That's 02-02-02.
Aug
29: The M.A.X.X.: Remember the
comic book series, or the MTV animated series, The M.A.X.X.? Well creator
Sam Kieth will return to Marvel next year to do a Woverine/Hulk four issue
mini-series for the Marvel Knight line of comics. Says editor Stuart
Moore, "It will have all of Kieth's trademark surrealism and
beautiful art. It will be mixture of line and paint art." Kieth is
also working on a sequel to Zero Girl and a 'Four Women' mini-series for
Windstorm. This guy does some serious work! His M.A.X.X. comics were
great! (cinescape online)
Aug
28: Tremors 3: Michael Gross, who
played the gun hungry Bert Gummer, will return in the third installment of
Tremors 3: Back to Perfection. Gross believes the film will be the best of
the three films, though it will be direct to video. The film comes from
the creators of the original hit film which brings back familiar faces
from the first film, but Gross will take the lead in the third film. It
will hit video stores in VHS & DVD formats on October 2nd.
Aug

Roach reports that the third installment will be in full pre-production in
the next two weeks.

six episodes before season five is finished airing on Showtime.
Aug
28: Tracker: Geraint Wyn Davies,
who starred in 'Forever Knight', will play Zin in eight episodes of the
first season of Tracker.
Aug
28: Roswell/Enterprise Crossover: AICN
has great scope on a Roswell/ Enterprise crossover of sorts for this
season. Teen alien Max Reynolds will find himself in Hollywood doing an
audition to play an alien in an episode of 'Enterprise' while searching
the Paramount lot for his true love Liz. He will be auditioning with Scott
Backula. Jonathan will be directing the Enterprise episode. Look for the
Rowell episode on UPN October 9th.
Aug
28: Starsky & Hutch: David
Soul has stated that Warner Bros has indeed purchased the rights to 'Starsky
& Hutch' series and plans to shoot a feature film based on the
characters. Soul however hopes the rumors are just that, that Ben
Stiller and Vince Vaughn will play the roles. He believes that he and Paul
Glaser should reprise their roles based on the huge fan base the series
still has. If Soul & Glaser were around 40 instead of 50's it
might be possible. Hire two guys who look close and make in Lethal Weapon
type film and see what happens.
Aug
28: Jurassic 3 DVD: Somebody
screwed up somewhere as the new DVD release of the film will NOT include
deleted scenes. Why NOT!!! Well, there isn't any extra footage to speak
of. Johnston shot the film on a tight budget and shot only what he needed.
There will be... an extensive special effects background, a storyboard and
script material.
Aug
28: Smith Begs: Kevin Smith is
begging fans to go see his movie on his website. The movie... 'Jay &
Silent Bob Strike Back'. His website... Viewaskew.com

rink scenes.
Aug

people seemed to enjoy the Planet of the Apes feature continues to fall in
the top ten pictures. It has already dropped to number 10. Next weekend
the feature will likely be off the list.
Aug
27: Jeremiah: The JMS
Showtime series is beginning pre-production. While talking to Joseph at
B5LR.com creator JMS said the new series would eventually syndicated but
not for the first two years. It will air on Showtime in primetime and be a
huge production. Also says JMS... “Right around now in our timeline, a
virus wipes out everyone on the planet over the age of puberty (figure
around 12-13). It is now about 15 years later. Those who were once
children have now grown up and are in their late 20s on down. For 15
years, they have been living on the scraps of the old world; now they must
either continue the downward slide, or begin to rebuild the world, taking
responsibility for themselves and the world and each other. (B5LR.com)
Aug
27: Rush Hour 2: It may not be
able to tackle the number one spot, but it hangs gracefully in the number
2 spot behind 'American Pie 2'. Rush Hour 2 sits at almost $184M to date.
Not bad for the sequel.
Aug
27: UPN advertising: UPN is using
a new advertising campaign for it advertisers. They will have packages you
can buy that will include product placement on their series. An innovated
new advertising scheme that other networks have failed to capitalize on...
for now. If it works on UPN, other networks will become copycats very
quick like.
Aug
27: The Mummy Returns: The
incredibly successful sequel to last years hit has ended up with about
$415M worldwide. Incredible. I hope Jurassic Park III does as well.
Aug
27: Pearl Harbor DVD: When the new
'Pearl Harbor' DVD hits the shelves on January 15th fans of the film will
get to see a much more violent version of the movie. The 3 disc DVD
version will include an 'R' rated version. The theatrical release of the
film was rated PG-13 per the agreement with Disney. How much for this
packed DVD boxed set? Just $39.99. Costco and Sam's Club will likely have
the disc at $29.99.
Aug
27: Osmosis Jones: If your going
to spend some bucks to see this, bring a barf bag. At least you can take
something home with you for the money you just threw away.
Aug
26: Aalyiah Dead: The 22 year old
popstar died Saturday along with 8 others, in a plane crash in the
Bahamas. Aalyiah costarred with Jet Li in 'Romeo Must Die', and most
recently finished filming 'Queen of the Damned'. She was also doing a role
in the Matrix sequels. After the crash, the plane rested just 75 feet from
the runway in a marshy area. The bodies were heavily burned. (yahoo news)
Aug
26: Matrix Prequel?: Square
Entertainment, who did Final Fantasy, will make a 10 minute prequel to the
Matrix. The short film will make its internet debut in 2002.
Aug
26: Madonna Condoms: The
Madonnna condoms from CondoMania,
are now onsale and the material girl is not happy about it. Hey, tough shit
asshole. These condoms are available in the U.S., Europe and Japan.
In June, Madonna's representatives sent a letter to CondoMania demanding
that the company stop selling anything with Madonna's unauthorized
likeness. "CondoMania's mission has always been to educate customers
about the importance of using safer sex products and if Madonna's picture
on condoms helps promote that message, then we will promote and sell
Madonna condoms,'' said President and founder Adam Glickman. The package
shows a headshot of Madonna, taken from a series of nude photos made in
1979 by photographer Martin Schreiber. He sold the rights to the pictures
two years ago to VDM International which in turn sold the U.S. rights to
CondoMania, a company that sells sex toys and condoms. Since she doesn't
like the idea, everyone who buys and uses one should send the used condom
to her.
Aug
26: Witchblade Today: Beginning at
10am TNT shows the entire Witchblade series from the pilot movie to the
final season one episode in one long run. Get the VCR hot and grab some
munchies folks. It is on!
Aug
26: Bond 20 update: the 20th film
will mark the 40th anniversary of the James Bond Franchise with Pierce
Brosnan starring in his fourth film and the legendary secret agent 007.
The film will be directed by Lee Tamahori and will be written by the
writing team 'Neal Purvis and Robert Wade'. Production begins at Pinewood
Studios in January 2002. How much does that Astin Martin cost that James
Bond will drive in the new film? Oh, about $228,000 for the V12
Vanquish.
Aug
26: X-Shaq: LA Lakers star and
horrible actor 'Shaquille O'Neil' wants to score a part in the upcoming
X-Men 2 feature currently in development. God, please don't let this
happen. He can't shoot free throws, rap or act worth a shit.
Aug
26: Nintendo Delayed: Imagine
That! Are you really surprised that Nintendo's 'the Cube' release has been
delayed in the United States? But have no fear crap unit lovers, the Cube
will only be delayed by two weeks right now. Only three games will be
released with the unit, 'Luigi's Mansion' , 'Wave Race' and 'Pikmin'. Save
your money people, the Xbox hits stores 10 days before the Cube on
November 8.
Aug
25: Timecop 2: Peter of Coming
Soon might have a scoop on Timecop 2. The chances of the feature was
mentioned over a month ago and all went quiet after that. Now comes news
that action star Jet Li might be teaming up with 'B' action star Jean
Claude Van Damme in the sequel to one of Van Dammes most decent films.
Even Mia Sara is returning from the first film. Gary Scott Thompson (Fast
and the Furious) is writing the script. Dark Horse Entertainment will
produce the film with Universal handling distribution. Jet Li however is
NOT yet signed on to the project. At one point Dark Horse was considering
dumping Van Damme in favor of the actor who played in the series.
Aug
26: Enterprise Sets: The new
photos of the sets created for the new Enterprise series in TV Guide look
incredible. They are really beautiful sets and should add to the stories
the series will tell.
Aug
26: Enterprise Trouble: Berman's
interview in the TV Guide lead me to believe that the new Enterprise
series will indeed have the friggin' halodeck in it. While earth and the
new Federation may not have the technology, it doesn't mean they won't
meet up with alien cultures that do have them. Those are his words not
mine. Now just add the timerift anomalies and we definitely have the same
screwed up writers from Voyager. Shit! What is it about halodeck
adventures? They think if you take away the safeties and someone might be
killed you can have a great story. Give me a break. Berman is STILL bad
for Star Trek. The new series should have had NEW fresh writers, with
fresh ideas.
Aug
25: Wonder Bullock: Sandra Bullock
is still interested in the role of 'Wonder Woman', but the latest script
do NOT pass the Bullock test. USA Today reports that Todd Alcott's script
wasn't right. So now he is again at work on it. If they can't make Bullock
happy there will be no shortage of actress' ready to don the comic
characters helm.
Aug
25: General Lee: Fans continue to
love the Dukes of Hazzard 'General Lee'. The
love affair with the souped-up 1969 Dodge Charger was evident over the
weekend at Cooter's Place, the Sperryville general store dedicated to all
things Hazzard. The store is owned by Ben
Jones, who played Cooter the mechanic on the show and was a
two-term congressman from Georgia in the early 1990s. As the General Lees
arrived Friday and Saturday for DukesFest 2001, drivers pulling into
Cooter's honked their horns, which played ``Dixie'' just like the car on
the show. Dukes of Hazzard began in the late 1970's and ran for seven
years on CBS. Critics hated the show, but fans loved it, which made the
show the nations top show for several years. (associated press)
Aug
24: Hard Boiled: Nicolas Cage may
be headed toward the lead in the Science Fiction feature 'Hard Boiled'
from comic book authors 'Frank Miller' and 'Geoff Darrows'. It's the story
of a killer robot who thinks he's a tax collector. (variety)
Aug
24: Witchblade Finale: Over
thirty-five million viewers tuned in for the Witchblade series finale on
TNT. That a rating of 2.7, which is the shows best rating.
Aug
24: the Gathering: Granada Films
has signed 'Christina Ricci' to star in their upcoming supernatural
thriller... 'the Gathering'. The film will have a budget of just $17M and
shot on location in England. the Gathering will also star Kerry Fox,
Stephen Dillane, and Ioan Grufudd.
Aug
24: Bond 20: James Bond will once
again use the 2001 Aston Martin for the 20th film and Production for
the 20th film will FINALLY ramp up in January 2002. MGM and EON are also
reporting the recent script involving James Bond's father are is not the
script that will be used. It's just a fan script. To bad... it was an
excellent story and a chance for 'Sean Connery' to return as Bonds father.
It would have been awesome.
Aug
23: Witchblade Renewed: TNT has
given the greenlight to a second season of 13 episodes for the series 'Witchblade',
starting next summer. Witchblade stars Yancy Butler, as New York police
officer Sara Pezzini. Witchblade scored a 2.3 rating for its first 10
weeks. That's better than any other program in that time slot. Robert
Johansson dropped an email letting me know that TNT will be spending an
estimated $1M per episode on season two.
Aug
23: Young Tarzan: Warner Brothers
Television will produce a new Tarzan series. The
pilot tells the story of a 17-year-old Tarzan who is sent to live with his
aunt in New York after being seriously injured by poachers in the African
jungle. The teen Tarzan "becomes the protector of the ultimate urban
jungle," the studio told the Reporter. The project will be
written by Mike Herb and Michael Colleary, who wrote Tomb Raider. (hollywood
reporter)
Aug
23: Goonies: With the take of a
sequel using the original cast and new youngster, comes the Special
Edition DVD of the feature. All the cast members returned for commentary
on the disc... CLICK HERE to see an image of what they look like now.
Picture provided by DVD File.
Aug
23: Rangers Cast Not Set: Can you
believe that? The cast of the pilot movie, 'Babylon 5: Legend of the
Rangers' is not signed for the possible series. There is five months
before the airing of the telefilm pilot. Plenty of time for the
characters/ actors to move on to other projects. Dylan Neil, who stars as
Captain David Martel, has already been offered another series. He did
however turn it down in hopes that the Sci-Fi Channel would come through
with a decision to greenlight the series. (prevue magazine via scifi guys)
Perhaps the Sci-Fi Channel isn't that positive about the telefilm.
Aug
23: McDonalds: Over 14 billion
screwed, should be their new slogan as the food chain gets taken for
nearly $14M in cash and prizes by executives who created the Monopoly game
and stole the game pieces. Of course the paying customers lost out
too.
Aug
23: X-Files & Beyond: This
seasons X-Files seems to be prepping the fans for the departure of Gillian
Anderson. X-Files will feature three leads in season nine, with Annabeth
Gish joining Anderson and Patrick full-time. This would set up season ten
without Gillian Anderson, who has wanted out for the last three
years.
Aug
23: Ghosts of Mars: While other
films had huge budgets like 'Mission to Mars' and 'Red Planet' (which
weren't very good), John Carpenters 'Ghosts of Mars' was done on a budget
of just $33M.
Aug
23: Matrix Supplements: Come
November 20th, Warner Bros. will release a new supplemental Martix:
Revisited DVD. Since the release of Matrix on DVD, Warner has compiled a
ton of behind the scene footage. The disc will be loaded with material
including a music montage of never before seen footage. How much is the WB
offering this for? Well, about $19.95 is the SRP.
Aug
23: Another Highlander: Dimension
films is interested in doing another 'Highlander' film despite the three
sequels bombing at the box office. What is weird is that original
Highlander director Russell Mulcahy is interested in helming the project.
They also seem to believe Adrian Paul will star in the film. However Paul
(new tracker series) was not happy with the last film. Getting him onboard
might not be so easy. But... money talks. (movie hole)
Aug
23: TREK DVDs: The complete first
season of Star Trek: the Next Generation will be released on DVD at the
first of the year. The other series Deepspace Nine, and Voyager will be
right behind it. Deepspace Nine is the best series of the three. Buy that
series first.
Aug
23: Mad Max 4: This is something
that will not die. Moviehole is reporting that director George Miller is
still trying to entice Mel Gibson to come on board for one last feature.
The script is written and involves Gibson's character from the first three
films. The group working on the project believe that Mel would don the
leathers for one last film. I wouldn't be on Mel Gibson just jumping back
into the Mad Max role, regardless of the script.
Aug
23: Go Go Gadget... Sequel: The horribly
done 'Inspector Gadget' is, for some reason, getting a sequel. 3rd Rock
From the Sun actor French Stewart will take on the role played by Mathew
Broderick. It isn't known whether this is a direct to video or feature
film. But judging from the first film, direct to video seems likely.
Aug
23: Yoda Dialog: Frank Oz has
complete the recording all of Yoda's dialog for 'Star Wars 2'. (dark
horizons)
Aug
23: Mutant X: Well, folks - I
guess 20th Century Fox owns anything with the 'X' in it. They are now
taking Mutant X back to court to get the series name changed because it
can do damage to the 'X - Men'. Is Fox going to sue themselves over the
'X-Files'? Couldn't that 'X' do damage to the 'X-Men' franchise? 'X' marks
the spot for 20th Century FoXXXXX.
Aug
23: Khan Special Edition: Looks
like Paramount is now going to go back through the Star Trek features in
order this time with Special Edition DVDs. Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
looks to be next sometime next year with a two-disc set. It is to early to
tell what extras will be included. Unlikely that it will get the SFX
remake that ST: the Motion Picture did. Restored footage is always great.
No included - restored.
Aug
23: Escape From ....?: There are
no current plans for a third 'Escape From New York' film, John Carpenter
and Kurt Russell are up for a new film. There is currently no interest in
another film from the studio. Escape From L.A. was watchable... but not
very good. Of course, 'Bruce Campbell' was outstanding in the film.
Aug
23: Now & Again Gone: After
just airing 8 episodes the Sci-Fi Channel has replaced the series with
reruns of the Outer Limits. The series replacement is likely due to poor
ratings.
Aug
23: Witchblade: The Witchblade TV
series, first and only season, will be shown in its entirety on TNT
Aug. 26 at 10am to 11pm. The airing includes the pilot movie and all 11
episodes. There is no word yet on the second season but seems likely due
to the decent ratings it received.
Aug
22: Cruising Austin 3: Popcorn UK
is reporting a rumor that Tom Cruise will be appearing in the upcoming
'Austin Powers 3' feature spoofing his Mission Impossible character Ethan
Hunt. Cruise would play and agent helping Powers sold his case. Myers and
director Jay Roach are said to still be after Sean Connery to play
Austin's father in the hated 'PREQUEL'. Come on Tom, give us a third
'Mission Impossible' and the special edition Mission Impossible 2 - DVD,
with those cut 30 minutes.
Aug
22: Timeline Delayed: Director
Richard Donner has told the Action Adventures website that he the project
has been delayed for a year due to a supposed strike that never happened.
The 'Timeline' novel by Michael Crichton was a very boring novel and the
script is said to capture the essence of the book. Bare essence hopefully.
Filming is now scheduled to begin at the end of February 2002.
Aug
22: Apes TV Series & DVD: 20th
Century Fox has announced that on November 20, the studio will release the
entire 14 episode series 'Planet of the Apes: the complete series, on DVD.
the Four disc set will retail at $49.95.
Aug
21: Blade 3: David Goyer, who wrote the two scripts for Blade, will this time write and
direct Blade 3. Variety is reporting that Goyer has signed the deal with
New Line to go ahead with the third installment. Says Goyer, "After
Blade 3, I am done with writing for other directors. I've had enough
frustrations over the last ten years that I realize I can do it
myself." Goyer seems set with other projects lined up. He also has a
deal with Miramax to write and direct "Murder Mysteries" based
on a short story. And to write and direct a feature based on the Marvel
Superhero 'Dr. Strange'. Goyer is writing the script for upcoming
project... Ghostrider.
Aug
21: Blade 2: On
the making of the film, Guillermo Del Toro is having a blast with the film
and Wesley Snipes seems excited about the project as well saying that the
film will have a bigger horror element than the first film. Blade searches
the world and finds Kristofferson's character being kept alive in a
tankful of blood. I don't know if Wesley Snipes is signed for the third
film yet.
Aug
21: Collateral Damage: According to Entertainment Weekly director Andrew Davis, 'The
Fugitive', will be doing to reshoots for the Swartzenegger scifi/thriller
'Collateral damage'. The film looked to be shooting for a PG-13 flick, and
the director is listening to the fans for a change. Some of the reshoots
will be new fight scenes that have more graphic violence.
Aug
21: Dawson's Creek: This isn't
scifi, but John Wesley Shipp played the
'Flash', so it's related. Shipp will be leaving the show during the season
so they will kill off the character during a boating accident. James Van
Der Beek is said to be extremely upset that Shipp will no longer be part
of the series. Shipp was great as the Flash,
which lasted just one season of 22 episode. The effects were outstanding
on the show.
Aug
21: Eater: Director Jan de Bont is
nearing a deal with Fox to produce a new science fiction mini-series
'EATER'. The four hour mini-series is based on a book by Gregory Benford
of the same name. The book and series tell the story of an astrophysicist
and his wife who discover that a black hole is making its way through
space with mother Earth sitting in its path.
Aug
20: Trek 10: the thought of Sean
Connery playing the role of the villain, 'Shinzon', may be just that.
Coming Attractions is reporting that Jude Law 'A.I.' may be up for the
role now. Craig T. Nelson 'Coach' is also up for the role of Shinzon's
right hand and advisor.
Aug
20: Tomb Raider 2: Angelina Jolie
told 'The Daily Record' that it looks like it is going to happen, they are
writing another one. She is going to be Laura Croft again. She also added
that the film needs to be 100 times better, with stuff that nobody has
seen before and a great script. They had a great script for the first film
- Simon West just screwed it up.
Aug
20: No Cage in Ghost: After all
the effort to sidestep Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage now says that scheduling
conflicts will prevent him from doing the film 'Ghostrider'. Cage is
blaming the problem on Steve Norrington, who was to direct the film.
Norrington signed on to direct the Jennifer Lopez action film 'Tick Tock'
which conflicts with the shooting schedule of 'Ghostrider'. Now producers
must decide whether to find another director or delay production, both of
which likely means Cage's departure from the title role of Johnny Blaze.
If Norrington agreed to do the film and took another job, he should be
reprimanded by the Union and suspended from it for at least a year. Verbal
or on paper is binding.
Aug
20: Arac Attack: Reshoots for the
film wrapped last Friday in a small desert town outside of LA.
Aug
20: Lord of the Rings: AICN is
reporting that the 'Lord of the Rings' first film is now locked and
finished with a running time of 2hrs 45min, and will be rated PG-13.
Aug
20: Prince Jr. Sportscaster:
Rather than concentrate on being a great actor 'Freddie Prince Jr.' seems
set on finding a new job. First he signs a deal with Marvel to write some
comic books and last night he appears on ESPN trying to be a sportscaster.
Of course, with the types of movies he keeps choosing another
occupation to fall back on might not be a bad idea. I guess a singing
career or band would be next for the young actor.
Aug
20: Buffy Gets Xboxed: Electronic
Arts will be releasing its game version of 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer' to
the Xbox rather than the PC. The game will take place between the third
and fourth seasons. Unfortunately only Buffy will be playable. Buffy cast
members, except for Gellar, will provide voices. Hmmm, it's Gellars/Buffy's
series but she isn't doing a voice for the game. Imagine that! EA
Sports - It's in the game.
Aug
20: Baywatch Blast: Fox Television
has greenlit a two-hour telefilm set in Hawaii, where the series ended,
which will be aired during the February Sweeps. It will include the latest
and original members of the series in a finale style telefilm... Baywatch
Blast. Budget of for the TV Movie will be $5.5M and original cast
includes... Alexandra Paul, Yasmine Bleeth, Nicole Eggert, Traci Bingham,
Gina Lee Nolan, Donna D'Errico, and Carmen Electra. Pamela Anderson hasn't
committed to the project yet.
Aug
20: Star Trek I: The motion
picture special edition is due on DVD Nov 6. The revamped and re-edited
film went from a 'G' rating to a PG. With extensive tweaks to the sound
mix and digital enhancements to more than 90 shots, director Robert Wise
is finally happy with the 22 year old film. In addition to the new
136-minute cut of the movie, the two-disc set ($29.99) will feature two
hours of bonus programming, including group commentary by Wise, special
photographics director Douglas Trumbull, special photographic effects
supervisor John Dykstra, music composer Jerry Goldsmith and actor Stephen
Collins (7th Heaven). Also included will be three new retrospective
documentaries with cast and crew interviews, five additional scenes (from
the 1979 theatrical version) plus trims and outtakes, as well as 11
deleted scenes (from the 1983 TV version).
Aug
20: Spy Kids: The Sept 18, DVD
release of the film will NOT have the extra scenes where were done for the
special edition that was re-released to theatres. My advice... don't buy
it till the special edition hits DVD, which you know at some point it
will.
Aug
19: Austin Powers 3: Michael York
will be reprising his role in the third installment of Michael Myers
'Austin Powers'. York hasn't read the script yet since Myers is still
working on it.
Aug
19: Trek X: If Paramount gets of
their greedy horse and pays the actors appropriately the film should begin
production on time. If things come off on time, the sfx house Digital
Domain will be doing all of the FX duties on the tenth film. And of course
as you all already know Jonathan will not be directing this one. It will
be Stuart Baird. Paramount continues to show it really doesn't care about
the fan base or the franchise if it might cost them a few dollars.
Aug
19: Prince of Comics: In a move
that shows you just need a name and not necessarily talent, Freddy Prince
Jr. (Scooby Doo) has told E' online that he has signed a deal with Marvel
Comics to write a few books, including a storyline for a famous Marvel
character who climbs walls. Mr. Prince Jr. should work on his acting and
leave the writing to... writers.
Aug
19: Farscape to Re-Air: The Sci-Fi
Channel will re-air Farscape from the first episode and in order Monday
thru Thursday, beginning August 27 at 8pm. (scifi wire) Farscape is
currently airing new episodes Saturdays at 9pm. It is the Sci-Fi Channels
number one show. Invisible Man and the Chronicles are hot on its ass
though.
Aug
19: the Warriors: Just watched
'the Warriors' on digital Cinemax east. This is a great action flick. So
underrated it is pathetic. I remember seeing this at the box office,
and... it was banned in New York. The film follows a gang, 'the Warriors',
having to bebop
its way from inside New York City back to their turf - Coney Island. The film is loaded
with action, some decent acting, and a terrific soundtrack. It stars
Michael Beck and James Remar. Take a couple of hours and enjoy this great
film. "What are ya - a buncha wimps?" - James Remar. The
'Baseball Furies' were the best gang in the film.
Aug
19: Backdraft SE?: A few weeks ago
I was flipping through the channels and came across 'Backdraft' on TNT or
some supercable network. The most weird things was it was 'Backdraft' but
a scene not in the feature film. It was a few scenes that actually showed
why 'Scott Glenn's' character started creating the fires. I don't know if
there were any other cut scenes replaced in the film for the network. Does
anyone know? Please drop me an email and fill me on the Special Edition
shown on TV.
Aug
18: Andromeda: Jim Finn of
FINNesse dropped an email to let everyone know that Andromeda begins
filming its back 12 episodes next week. His Sfx company has 6 episodes
completed and will have another 3 done by September. Andromeda will not
begin airing new episodes until October. According to mister Finn the
episodes are good so far, and they maintain consistent storylines and
picture quality.
Aug
18: Special Unit 2: Jim Finn, the
Vfx Supervisor of Andromeda, is now the visual effects consultant for the
second season of Special Unit 2 also. He believes the it is going to be a
very different show from the first six episodes already in the can (the
six season one eps). SU2 is now shooting its third episode, of season two,
in Vancouver and seems to be going very well. Pictures look great and the
stories are way out there.
Aug
18: Thunderbird Auction: Puppets
from the popular series 'the Thunderbirds' were auctioned off recently.
The Gerry Anderson puppets were sold off for $159K Canadian dollars.
Aug
18: Star Trek 10 Trouble: AICN is
reporting some trouble in the Trek front getting the Next Generation cast
set for the upcoming tenth film. Of course, it's all monetary at this
point but there is a short window to get the cast signed and ready to go.
Patrick Stewart is signed but must leave to work on his other
project 'X-Men 2'. AICN has noted a ten day window to get the players
signed or wait until late next year when Picard will be available to do
the film. Paramount should have had these people signed before
greenlighting the project to begin with. Paramount has never given Star
Trek the seriousness it deserves, or the film budget to do the best
quality production it can. The Star Trek franchise has made well over one
billion dollars for Paramount through, series, features, toys, models and
more world wide.
Aug
18: Alias: The new ABC series
started out with some poor reviews but things for the series have changed
in recent months as the pilot is now getting some positive press. The
pilot movie is said to be somewhat slow in the first hour and more than
makes up for it in the second hour. This new female James Bondish series
might the new series to watch.
Aug
18: Freddy vs AICN: Freddy Prince
Jr. (Scooby Doo) has attacked the character of AICN's Harry Knowles and
his bad reviews of the upcoming 'Scooby Doo' feature. Seems Harry was left
of the list to visit the sets during filming while others were. Prince
blames this on Harry's bad attitude towards the film. My take on this... I
wasn't invited either. Small site owners like myself and others are seldom
invited to these things. And that is fine - it's the business. But I don't rate 'Scooby' as a
quality film either. From pictures, the general idea and script reviews - this is a stupid
film. It is a cartoon that should have been left that way. Adults,
like me, who grew up with the Scoob know that this... will be a box office
flop. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. It isn't like taking a
comic superhero and making a live action film.
Aug
18: Lost Avengers: Amongst the
archives found at UCLA recently was a thought lost first season episode of
'the Avengers'. The episode was long thought to be junked, but UCLA had a
copy in 16mm. The episode is titled 'Girl on a Trapeze'. The most
interesting thing about the episode is that James Macnees, John Steed is
not featured in it. (leisure hive)
Aug
18: No Red Dwarf: Looks like the
feature 'Red Dwarf' is off again as co-director Ed Bye has quit the
production dumping all the responsibility onto Doug Naylor.
Aug
17: Special Unit 2: 'PREY' creator
'Bill Schmidt' has joined the second season production of Special Unit 2
as a consultant to the series. It is rumored he was hired due to his
success with PREY and it huge fan base.
Aug
17: Blair Witch 3: Remember that
there was to be a Blair Witch prequel? Well, the creators of the two
films, co-director Ed Sanchez and Dan Myrick have told E online that they
are eager to get started on the prequel. The first one was stupid, but
made money and the second was one of the worst films that year. I can't
believe a studio would put up any money for a prequel, much less
distribute the crap film.
Aug
17: Dreadnaught: The upcoming
feature 'Dreadnaught' from the Charlie's Angel helmer, McG is moving
forward. He has already been in talks with NATO and the U.S. Marine Corp.
about his production needs. McG is also planning to shoot scenes in the
same water tank in Baja where Cameron shot Titanic. The story? The film
will tell the story of a cutting edge naval destroyer seeking out another
Navy vessel for something it didn't do. The make-believe ship will need to
be as big as the Titanic. Imagine that. (cinescape online)
Aug
17: A Chronicled Success: The
Sci-Fi Channel has ordered up the remaining nine episode of the first
season of 'the Chronicles' bringing its total to 22 episodes. SFC's Bonnie
Hammer told the Sci-Fi Wire that the new episodes begin production Aug 29
in.... hey... San Diego. series stars
Chad Willett, Rena Sofer and Reno Williams all returning. Fan favorites
Curtis Armstrong and Jon Polito will also return as series regulars. (scifi
wire) On another note, the ratings for the series have increased by 70%
since its debut on July 14.
Aug
17: Daredevil: Dark Horizons is
reporting from the Montreal Gazette that Al Pacino will have a major role
in the new Daredevil feature.
Aug
17: PREY update: Fans of the
series should get happy. Warner Brothers is amazed at the series
campaign's persistence. Warner is noticing and so is the Sci-Fi Channel.
Things are moving slowly but they are moving. The fan base is huge world
wide and people in the industry are taking notice.
Aug
17: Enterprise in TV Guide: Once
again the new Enterprise will appear in the Aug 25 issue of 'TV Guide'.
This time fans will get a to see the inside of the Enterprise with photos
of the bridge, engine room, sick bay, the transporter room, and the
corridors. Of course to make you buy multiple copies of the same issue
there will be three different covers available. Majel Roddenberry is
totally amazed at how durable the Star Trek Franchise is.
Aug
17: Werewolf TV: The website was
down as it moved to a new server and is now back up and revamped, for
the fans of the series to check out. Click the link to take you to the WEREWOLF TV
website.
Aug
17: Superboy: Smallville isn't the
first story about a young Superman. Anyone remember the DC Comic 'Superboy'?
Well, there was TV series, 'The Adventures of Superboy' that aired from
1988 to 1991. Due to legal problems the series has never aired on another
channel since its original run - but it is not forgotten by many
fans. CLICK
HERE to check out the series remembered by its biggest fan.
Aug
17: Halloween 8 Got Back: Pushed
back actually. The 8th installment has been pushed back to Easter 2002.
Aug
17: No Apes 2: At least there
won't be a sequel with Tim Burton at the helm. "The idea of doing a
sequel -- I'd rather jump out of the window, I swear to God,'' Burton told
Britain's Independent newspaper in an interview published Friday.
Aug
16: Freddy vs Jason: New Line
Cinema has finally greenlit the long anticipated feature film that
will pit Freddy against Jason. Steve Norrington who directed 'Blade' is
slated to helm the project. No Start date has been announced. (scifi wire)
Aug
16: Will Scooby Suck?: According
to several websites the new 'Scooby Doo' film will stink to the high
heavens. And likely it will. It's a cartoon that should be left that way.
However, star Freddy Prince Jr. is slamming the internet websites
stating... ".
"Most of the people that said the bad stuff, they [Warner Brothers]
didn't show things to," Prinze said at the press junket for his
latest film, Summer Catch. "That one guy, [Ain't It Cool
News'] Harry
Knowles, he wasn't even there [on the set], and he gets
mad, because he was never invited, and he was really trying to get there,
and they told him no. Unfortunately, the [entertainment] business doesn't
give respect to a lot of the Internet writers, and they act like jerks
sometimes, so a lot of people get mad." (well, he's got Knowles
number) Prince believes most people are going to dig the film. Ehhh.
Aug
16: Enterprise Addition: Jeffrey
Combs (Deep Space Nine) will appear in episode number five as an Andorian.
The Andorians were only seen in the original Star Trek series.
Aug
16: Daredevil: the new feature
Daredevil will now be moving its location from Montreal (the strike) to
Vancouver where so many other series and features are filmed. One of the
main reasons for relocating the production was that they have a start date
of Nov 19 and cannot deviate from that date. Deposits were put down Friday
to beat other studios' rush to Vancouver.
Aug
16: Crusade Closure: Creator J.
Michael Stracynski may likely bring the series 'Crusade' to an acceptable
end during the series, should it happen, 'Legend of the Rangers'. Crusade
was five years after Babylon 5, the Rangers is two and a half after B5, so
in theory if one season equal on year then in about 2.5 years we're going
to run into the events of 'Crusade'. When asked flat out if, at that
point, he would deal with the series within the setting of B5: Legend of
the Rangers, JMS replied, "Yes. Absolutely. It's a sneaky way of
handling it, but it's nice."
Aug
15: World's Finest: All kinds of
rumors are getting started about Warner Brothers latest idea of having
Superman and Batman together. Travolta's participation now is that of the
villain in the film (sounds better) and that Mark Wahlberg may replace
Chris O'Donnell as Robin (big mistake). (dark horizons)
Aug
15: Wonder Woman Ready: Joel
Silver now has a readied script for 'Wonder Woman'. So far the script is
making the rounds and reviews have been very positive. It is said the
script has lots of action, but does not have a comic book villain.
Aug
15: Skulls 2: The first film
missed out on a great opportunity for some action/suspense and now the
sequel 'Skulls 2' is slated for a direct to video release. So don't expect
Joshua Jackson or Paul Walker to return. Preproduction is slated to ramp
up in October.
Aug
15: ILM Moving: The - George Lucas
is moving his special effects house, Industrial Light and Magic, and other
Lucas digital ops to San Francisco's Presidio by 2005. Lucas will be
moving into a NEW 900,000 square foot digital arts center on the site of a
former Military hospital. Being in San Francisco means more money
for effects. Dig deep into those pockets boyz.
Aug
15: Apes Sequel: Helena Bonham
Carter who plays an ape in the Tim Burton film 'Planet of the Apes' says
about a sequel... "I should never say never, I'd have to think hard
and they would have to pay me lots of money. I've spent 240 hours of my
life sitting in make-up. I'm not sure I really want to do that again.''
She had to get up at two o'clock every
morning and spend four hours being made up. She
had to wear huge rubber ears, huge furry hands and could only drink
through a straw as she was equipped with huge teeth as well. AND...
She and the actors ate and drank as little
as possible to avoid the logistical horrors of going the toilet, which she
said was ``a huge event in itself.'' That must suck to do that for a
living and get millions of dollars. Wow... that really sucks, huh.
Aug
15: Superbowl: Next years
Superbowl advertising on Fox will cost about $2.5M for stupid 30 second
spot.
Aug
15: I Am Not Bond, Yet.: Actor
Clive Owen told the Calgary Sun that he has NOT been approached to take
the helm of James Bond after Pierce Brosnan steps down as OO7. But Owen
said he'd be amenable if asked. "It would be hard to say no, because
it would be an attractive offer," he said. "But I don't want to
talk about it. Pierce is a very good Bond."
Aug
14: Buffy Websites Scam?: It's
been a year since 20th Century Fox really went after the Buffy websites.
This time however, Fox has received some unlikely help in protecting its
prized copyrights - and a bitter war has broken out among BUFFY
Webmasters, who claim their competitors have ratted them out, and worse...
sent out fake cease-and-decist letters to scare them off. Says Fox...
"There's a person or persons out there who are sending out bogus
emails to BUFFY Websites, purporting on our behalf" confirms Fox
spokesman Steven Melnick. "We're investigating to see who it might
be, because they're not coming from us." (e-online) What a
sorry bastard who is doing this!
Aug
14: Stargate Moves Networks: Showtime's
hit series, 'Stargate SG-1' is moving to the Sci-Fi Channel for its sixth
season. In a deal with MGM Television the Sci-Fi Channel will produce the

Season 5 is currently airing on Showtime. Part of the deal includes the
SFC getting all the episodes - with they will air weekdays beginning the
fourth quarter of 2002. (scifi wire)
Aug
14: Thriller: This is an awesome
extra for the DVD cut of Final Fantasy. It will include an awesome music
video of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller', done in CG using the cast of Final
Fantasy. A great treat for the fans.
Aug
14: Hypercube: Just six more days

14: Angel: the WB still appears to
be set on NO crossovers with Buffy on UPN. Co-creator of the series, David
Greenwalt, told TV Guide online, "We're not going to do crossovers,
but we're not going to pretend Buffy wasn't the great love of Angel's
life," Other news from Greenwalt included that either Drusilla or
Darla will return and soon. A new villain will enter the series name
Holtz. A Vampire hunter who been after Angel for years. Actor Keith
Szarabajka (who played in 'Profit') will take on the role.
Aug
14: Minotaur: genre actor Tony
Todd (Candyman) not only is returning to Final Destination 2, he will be
starring in the upcoming feature 'Minotaur'. This is a fantasy film based
on the Greek myth about a supernatural creature that's half bull and half
man. Jonathan English will direct the film which starts filming October
15th. Filming will last about six weeks.
Aug
14: AOL Fucks Employees: AOL
raises its monthly dues by $2 per month - per account, for a take monthly
intake of an extra $400M every month - minimum. To meet its 2001 financial
targets, the internet company will now layoff (fuck over) about 1000 of
its 16000 employees. This is the second major layoff for AOL this year.
AOL is shit!
Aug
14: Ecto Kid: Paramount Pictures
and Nickelodeon Movies have purchased the feature and TV rights to Clive
Barker's comic book character 'Ecto Kid'. The comic book follows the
exploits of Dex Mungo, the love child of a psychic woman and the ghost of

spectral realm of the dead - who 'exist' among us - with his other eye.

film. (AICN)

Aug
13: Carpenter & O'Bannon:
Apparently there were some rough moments between Dan O'Bannon and John
Carpenter during the filming of 'Ghosts of Mars'. When asked at the DGA
screening on Friday if he would work with O'Bannon again, Carpenter
quickly said "No."
Aug
13: Final Destination 2: Ali
Larter and Tony Todd will be returning for the sequel to 'Final
Destination'. Todd played the mortician in the first film and will get a
slightly expanded part in the sequel. (scifi wire) Todd has become mostly
a genre actor during his career appearing in fantasy, horror and scifi
roles. He has also appeared in the Star Trek franchise as worf's brother
in Next Generation, and Deepspace Nine as an adult Jake Sisko. Neither of
the two cast members who survived the first film are returning for the
sequel. Neither is creators Morgan or Wong.
Aug
13: Reeves Got $$$: Keannu Reeves,
the star of Matrix, Bill and Ted, Point Break, and other films, has
been listed as the 16th richest Canadian. Show me the money!
Aug
13: Mortal Kombat 3?: Yep!
According to MortalKombat.com the upcoming 'Mortal Kombat 3' will see the
death of one of the major characters. The producers would only say...
"Get ready to be surprised. Actor Brian Thompson told 'Moviehole'
that everyone who's character survived at the end of the second film, had
to agree to a third film. The third films release is scheduled the same
time as the fifth game in the series.
Aug
13: Enterprise: Robert Duncan
McNeil, who played Tom Paris on Voyager and will directing an upcoming
Enterprise episode, visited the set for the second time to say hello to
everyone - told Trek Today that from what he has seen on the set so far,
the new series the programs tone will be much lighter than that of
Voyager. Says McNeil, "They're going for a lot more humor and Scott
Bakula is very funny." He also believes they are taking Star Trek
back towards what the original series was like. Hey! Can't go wrong with
that.
Aug
13: It's Ripper: Joss Whedon,
who's working on the BBC Buffy spin-off series, told Cinescape that the
title of the spin-off series is title 'Ripper' and not the previously
report 'The Watcher'. Ripper was Giles old nickname.
Aug

is a made for TV movie that stars Vincent Spano. The story is about evil
rats who overtake New York. Premieres Monday, September 17th on Fox. It
was originally titled 'The Colony'.
Aug
13: Final Fantasy DVD:
When? October 23. How much? $29.95. Why so much? The two-disc DVD special
edition of "Final Fantasy" that was announced prior to
the picture's release is still in the works though. It will allow viewers
to re-edit scenes and take part in visual effects tutorials. The set will
also include an alternate beginning for the movie, a short feature of
Aki's dream, a music video and audio commentary from the directors and
animators. Final Fantasy also grossed just $32M at the box office.
Aug
13: Goonies 2 Talk: Richard Donner,
who is directing the upcoming 'Timeline' says he will just produce the
upcoming Goonies sequel. Someone should cane the director for the horrible
soundtrack he used in the feature 'Ladyhawke'. Geez, that was horribly
done.
Aug
13: Dumb Raider: Some one a month
or so ago sent me an email one day asking me why I slammed on 'Tomb
Raider' all the time, when it made over $100M. Well, today $100M doesn't
mean a hit. After making the $100M in the first three weeks the crappy
film finished with just over $130M. The hype and push for the film is what
broke the $100M mark for this film. It died after its first week. The
picture was crap and Simon West let all the fans down.
Aug
13: Anonymous Rex: Bonnie Hammer
of the Sci-Fi Channel says this project is moving right along. "Anonymous
Rex," based on a book by twentysomething Miami writer Eric
Garcia. It centers on a private investigator that is really a dinosaur in
disguise (dinos not being entirely extinct, just gone undercover).
"It's not just derivative," says Hammer. "It's never been
done. It will be a feat if we pull it off the way we intend to pull it
off." (zap2it) The Sci-Fi Channel has many projects in various stages
of development. From a Dune sequel to Steven Spielberg's epic maxi-series
'Taken'. Coming soon is the Babylon 5 pilot movie 'Legend of the Rangers'
and the 'Firestarter' four hour mini-series.
Aug
12: McGregor Hates Hollywood: Star
Wars, young Obi Wan, Ewan McGregor told a British newspaper that he would
never move to Hollywood - he loathes the studio system. He condemned the
the Los Angeles based film industry for treating actors as bankable
products rather than people. Says McGregor, "To tell you the truth,
the system makes me sick sometimes. They put actors on to A, B and C
lists, according to how much money each person can make for the studio,
and I just think: 'How dare you do that? We're not a bunch of letters to
make you money -- we're people'.'' What a dope! He loves the money
from doing a Hollywood film, and then bitches about the way they do it.
Actors are nothing more than a product. Crappy products do not make money.
There is no actor out there worth $10M to $25M for a film.
Aug
12: Rush Hour 2: The sequel to the
hit fell to number 2 at the box office this weekend, but still rushed up a
nearly $31.5M. That gives the film a whopping two week total of nearly
$132M. The 1998 original Rush Hour grossed $141M. This one will definitely
break that. CLICK HERE to check
out the soon to be demolished Desert Inn as it was converted to the Red
Dragon Hotel for the film.
Aug
12: The Void: Lions Gate
Entertainment will release the Adrian Paul feature 'the Void' to home
video on March 19, 2002, which also stars Amanda Tapping and Malcolm
McDowell (thanks to Karen for the information)
Aug
12: Planet of the Apes: The
new-ness of the film wore off rather quickly as the film has made $148M in
the first 17 days. It is expected to end up with about $180M.
Aug
12: No Hope For Jones: As expected
the release of 'Osmosis Jones' opened the weekend at number 7 taking in a
mere... $5.6M. It was a stupid idea to begin with for a feature
film.
Aug
12: Superman Rumor: AICN is
posting a rumor that... John Travolta is in-line to play 'Superman' in the
upcoming 'Worlds Finest' film. Who would play Batman? Well, George Clooney
of course. The actor is signed on for 2 more sequels as part of his
original deal. If Travolta wants to fit the tights and cape of Superman,
he'll need to shed more than the 40lbs he lost for 'Swordfish'. Oh, and
directing this film... Rumor has it that Wolfgang Peterson will get the
helm.
Aug
12: Justice League Feature: There
are reports that the Batman: Year One project is completely dead. Warner
Brothers is hoping it will lead to a Justice League live action feature
film franchise. Harry Knowles is confirming this from at least three of
his... sources.
Aug
11: Daredevil Out: The feature is
still on, but it won't be filmed in Canada. 20th Century Fox decided not
to pursue filming in Canada due to a possible ACTRA stike of its 18,000
members. (ACTRA - Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio
Artists. Naturally ACTRA blamed the studios for the possible strike. It
wouldn't have anything to do with filming and having a strike happen in
the middle of production would it. Hell, I think so. ACTRA did try to
offer an option to the studio so production could continue if there was a
strike - the studio said 'No Thanks'. Since studios are
active to cut costs, yet charge an arm and a leg at the theatres,
Australia is like to become the next site for the film. (zap2it)
Aug
11: Dark Angel Add-on: The second
year series 'Dark Angel' on Fox, will add two new characters - both
attached to Manticore (the people after Max). Soap actor Jensen Akles
joins the cast as Alex - a transgenic, who's the same generation as Max.
He's a loyal soldier to the cause. And virtual newcomer, Kevin Durand (who
had a part on Stargate SG-1) will play Joshua. He gets to be the genetic
experiment taken one step to far in the effort for the perfect soldier.
His genetic make-up includes animal DNA. A few more characters like this
and we have ourselves a 'Superhero' series.
Aug
11: Mutant X Changes: What was
originally planned for the series is likely to change as the courts
decided the production may continue, however the series must change the
shows logo, as well as the series content. Hopefully the forced changes
will not kill a great idea.
Aug
11: Killer Klowns 2: The Chiodo
Brothers are planning a sequel to the cult 'B' movie 'Killer Klowns From
Outer Space. For years the rights to the film were up in the air but
settled with MGM. The Chiodo's are hoping that MGM will realize what a
great franchise they have after the film hits DVD soon. Hopefully sales
will get MGM hot to create another film.
Aug
11: The Last Warrior: Check out my
online novel 'The Last Warrior'. Chapters one thru eight are on line with
more on the way. Click Here
Aug
11: Spy Kids SE: The re-release of
the Spy Kids Special Edition will have about 30 seconds of new footage.
This is a cheesey attempt to get more money for a film previously at the
box office. This is DVD type material for the buyer and a shit excuse to
get people back in the theatre just to see a sleeping shark scene.
Aug
11: Area 23: 'Area 23' is the
Pentagon sanctioned program that houses the Pys Ops Team - an elite strike
team of paranormals. Individuals gifted with extraordinary powers of the
mind. They go where our government cannot and will not venture. Protecting
national interests at home and abroad, dealing with the growing terrorists
threats. (paranormal and otherwise). This a pilot movie/series being
shopped around by Mindshadow Entertainment. (reported two months ago. A
reminder.)
Aug
10: Go Daredevil: 20th Century Fox
has given the green light to the feature film 'Daredevil'. Production is
expected to begin late November. Writer/director Steven Johnson is heading
to, where else, but Canada, to scout some sites in Montreal for
about 10 days. (wizardworld.com)
Aug
10: X-Files Addition: Cary Elwes
(Princess Bride) has signed on to join the cast of the X-Files and play a
recurring character. He will be FBI agent Brad Follmer. (hollywood
reporter)
Aug
10: Osmosis Jones: The synopsis of
this film sounds, and the trailers look, total stupid. The live action
Bill Murray, with an animated virus battle going on inside him. This...
film uses opens today. Save the money for rainy day.
Aug
10: Stuart Little 2: Christopher
Walken will voice the villain in the upcoming sequel to the hit movie
'Stuart Little 2'.
Aug
10: Mutant X Continues: The court
system told 20th Century Fox to take a hike as they will not block the
production of Marvel's new 'Mutant X' series.
Aug
10: Goonies 2: Ex-drug addict Cory
Feldman who co-starred in the original Gooinies film told Howard Stern
that the script is pretty much finished and things are moving ahead on it.
As for a 'Lost Boys' sequel he said there is no sequel in the works.
Aug
10: Terminator 3: Looks like
Arnold Swartzenegger will be shooting another picture before beginning on
Terminator 3. This one looks to be titled, 'UMP' and a black comedy at
that. Based on a novel by Jim Cohen, ``Ump'' is the
story of a hitman who is called the Ump because he adheres to a strict set
of rules. After eliminating two-thirds of a triplet mob boss team, the Ump
hides out in a town in New Jersey. The townfolk embrace his no-nonsense
ways, and the hitman winds up cleaning up the troubled town while he waits
for the chance to finish the rubout trifecta.
Aug
9: Spartacus TV: There is finally
some more news on the proposed TV series. (see CHANNEL NEWS for original
news) MGM has picked up the rights to the series, which is still in
development. Last year Pearson bought the rights, but Pearson got bought
by a German firm and does not distribute to North America (this the
cancellation of 'First Wave'.) The new series is currently seeking writers
and showrunners. Spartacus will be filmed in... 'Australia'. The concept
seems more serious style Hercules/Xena. Unlikely to make it as Conan, was
unable to.
Aug
9: Babylon 5 DVD: Fans are going
to make out on this single DVD release getting two of the five telefilms
on the disc with 'In the Beginning' and 'The Gathering'. The Gathering
will be the special edition shown on TNT and not the original pilot
(different edit and music). The DVD is expected on December 4th. More DVDs
are expected in 2002, though nothing has been officially announced. It has
not been reported if the films will be in letterbox or pan & scan
format. Babylon 5 continues to do well on the Sci-Fi Channel.
Aug
9: Warriors Remake: For some
ungodly reason MTV is seeking to hire a writer to script a remake of
Walter Hills 1979 'The Warriors'. This is a film that does not need a
remake. A nice film just as it is. The Warriors follows a gang trying to
bebop their way through the gangs of New York, trying to get home after
being accused of a murder they didn't commit. James Remar and Michael Beck
star in this picture. If you haven't seen it, it is a picture worth taking
a view to. (original story from AICN)
Aug
8: Matrix 2 Delayed: Joel Silver
told the Sci-Fi Wire that the release of Matrix: Reloaded will likely not
grace the big screen until Summer 2003. The delay is nothing more than
assuring the quality of both films. The difference is really only about
six months. Rumors were that the first sequel would hit theatres during
the Christmas holiday.
Aug
8: The Bat Goes Super: Warner
Brothers is absolutely unsure of what to do with franchise man, 'BATMAN'.
With two films currently in development and a Superman feature also in
development the studio is now putting into development, a feature film
that will put the two superheroes together in one film. Andrew Kevin
Walker (sleepy hollow) will pen the script for the untitled project.
Wolfgang Peterson will direct. Hey, why not title it 'Worlds Finest' based
on the comic book that featured both 'Batman' and 'Superman'.
Aug
8: More Batman!: The Batman: Year
One script is working, and Warner is unsure about Batman Beyond, and the
Batman/Superman idea is just being put to work. Well, here is another deal
for Batman, Warner Brothers is now considering bringing back Michael
Keaton as Batman under Frank Miller's 'the Dark Knight' title, with Tim
Burton at the helm and Sean Connery possibly playing commissioner
Gordon. Wow! I like this one much better than the others.
Aug
8: Angel: The WB has announced the
third season premiere of 'Angel', which should be on UPN, September
24.
Aug
8: Charmed: The two-hour premiere
airs September 27 at 9pm on the WB. It will introduce a sudden, fourth
unknown sister played by Rose McGowan. She is replacing the... forced out
Shannon Doherty. The series was barely surviving without these changes.
The series could be doomed.
Aug
8: Justice League: Mark Hamill
(Luke Skywalker) has started doing his voice overs for the Joker in the
upcoming animated series 'Justice League of America'.
Aug
8: STTMP Directors Cut: This new
Directors Cut is truly what a directors cut is all about. The film has
been re-edited. Footage restored and NEW visual effects to the tune of
$10M added to the film replacing substandard effects that were forced on
the director at the time. Director Robert Wise is excited to have the film
released as he originally wanted. This is a must purchase for the DVD fans
as well as the Star Trek fans. The 15 minute preview at the San Diego
Convention went over huge with the thousands of fans there to see
it.
Aug
8: Chan's the Bellboy: Jackie Chan
is still proving how marketable he is as MGM has aggressively jumped on
Chan's remake of Jerry Lewis' 'The Bellboy'. Chan's has talked about this
for years as one of his projects, but now MGM wants to secure the
comedy/action film. The script is said to be set in Las Vegas at... you
guessed it, the MGM Grand Hotel.
Aug
8: Cult Genre: In a recent poll
done in London Dr. Who (big surprise) has been heralded as the number one
cult science fiction TV show. Number 2 was Faulty Towers followed by the
original Star Trek at number 3. At 5: Monte Python; at 6: the Prisoner; at
7: the X-Files. Make a note this is a European Poll and not a North
American Poll. Dr. Who might still be the number one cult show, but I
doubt Monte Python, Faulty Towers, and the Prisoner would be there.
Aug
8: Section 31 Donations?: Huh? the
Website 'Section 31' is asking for donations to help cover the costs of
running his website (it's only star trek). He only has 30GB transfer per
month allowed for his site. I had 85GB of transfer last month alone (my
carrier has unlimited bandwidth). Wow... If donating is in your blood,
then please... if you feel like donating any money, don't hesitate to drop
a few bucks my way! More money, more goodies for the site. ;-)
Aug
7: Rangers Darker: As Babylon
5: Legend of the Rangers makes it way to the small screen, it will take
the B5 Universe into a darker realm. J. Michael Straczynski told Science
Fiction Weekly, "I did want a darker, more serious look to this, I've
always felt that we should learn from the B5 tradition, but not be
bound by it. We can take it in another direction and expand and improve
it--I'm all for that. I just don't want to go backwards." The
telefilm pilot will be titled 'To Live and Die in Starlight'. The show
will pick up a few years after the episode 'Objects at Rest'.
Aug
7: Enterprise: Sky One in the UK
has picked up the broadcast rights for the new Paramount series
'Enterprise'.
Aug
7: Mysterious Ways Departs: NBC
will pull its series 'Mysterious Ways' from its line-up beginning August
10. The reason is the standard, 'Poor Ratings'.
Aug
7: Species: Species star Natasha
Henstridge, told Cinescape's Anthony C. Ferrante that she is sure the
creators of the two films are considering a TV series based on the idea.
In fact, she has been asked if she is interested in being part of it. And
Henstridge is more than interested in doing the series, if it should
happen.
Aug
7: Metz Joins Roswell: The UPN
series has had Malinda Metz, who wrote the original 'Roswell High' books
series join the writing staff for the television series. Also joining the
writing staff is Rowell High book editor Laura Burns. (cinescape online)
Aug
7: Kung
Fu Theatre: Dreamworks is considering the possibility of
financing and distributing the film, 'Kung Fu Theatre'. It would be helmed
by music video director Nick Quested. Story: a comic-book artist who finds
himself transported into a martial-arts film, where he embarks on an
unusual journey to find inspiration.
Aug
7: Star Wars, Attack of the Clones:
You got it. That is the stupid title of the fifth Star Wars film. Episode
II would have been so much better than this crappy title from the Dark
Lord of the Sith himself, 'Lucas'. Attack of the Clones... what a
hoot!
Aug
6: Aliens: While promoting her new
film in London, Sigourney Weaver (ripley) told the London Sunday Times she
is open to doing more films in the Aliens franchise. Says Weaver, "If
they want to write a good script for another ALIEN film and give me $20m,
then fine. If it's more sex they want, great." Who in the
hell is going to give this 50+ year old actress $20M for another alien
movie. It is time for the Alien Franchise to move beyond Ripley. The Steve
Perry trilogy about Aliens would be incredible.
Aug
6: 28 Days Later: A new sci-fi
thriller from director Danny Boyle begins shooting next month for a
release date late 2002. A virus that locks those infected into a permanent
state of killing rage, is accidentally released from a British research
facility. Carried by animals and humans, the virus is impossible to
contain, and spreads across the entire planet. Twenty-eight days later, a
small group of survivors are trapped in London, caught in a desperate
struggle to protect themselves from the infected. As they attempt to
salvage a future from the apocalypse, they find that their most deadly
enemy is not the virus, but other survivors (dark horizons)
Aug
6: EFC's Boone: The official
website for Earth: Final Conflict, has announced that the character of
Boone will return for two episodes in November. It is unknown if this
could lead to a more regular role. The news however was announced over a
month ago here and other places. It took nearly four and a half years but
the fans finally got what they have worked for - the return of Kevin
Kilner and his character, Boone. Margot Kidder (superman movies) will also
join the cast this season as a guest star. Moving from regular cast member
to guest star will be Anita La Selva (Zo'or). It was NOT her choice to
leave the cast as a regular.
Aug
6: Osmosis Jones: What a horrible
looking movie. Even has Bill Murray acting the same way he does in every
movie he does. Wait for the video and save the $$$$$
Aug
6: Chronicle Scores: The new
limited edition series 'The Chronicles' on the Sci-Fi Channel has scored
ratings nearly equal to Sci-Fi's hit series 'Farscape'. It is an
interesting series done extremely well on a seriously tight budget.
Aug
6: Enterprise Novelization: Diane
Carey has been tapped to write the novelization of the pilot movie for the
new 'Enterprise' series. (Psi Phi website)
Aug
6: Another Frankenstein: The old,
well worn story of Frankenstein is getting another rewrite. This time the
story is called Johnny Frankenstein and will be another updated story
telling of the same story we've heard so many times. Kevin Bernhardt will
write the script for Sobini Films who's developing the project. Let's
see... Johnny Handsome, Johnny Mneumonic, Johnny Skidmarks and now... Johnny Frankenstein.
Anybody got anything original in Hollywood?
Aug
6: Rush Hour II: The new Jackie
Chan/ Chris Tucker action film, 'Rush Hour 2' bagged up a mere $66M
opening day at the box office. Jurassic Park III was number 4 with just

with a take of nearly $29M, a ten day total of $125M.
Aug
6: Mummy, Furious Money: ABC &
USA network have gone in together for the rights to the Mummy Returns and
'the Fast and the Furious' for a mere $50M. ABC gets first broadcast
rights beginning in 2004 and in the second half of the deal (44 months)
USA network will get multiple broadcasts.
Aug

200 genre fonts in the Sci-Fi Fonts area. Download your favorite font and
create some great stuff. Terminator, Star Trek, Alien, and even Battlestar
Galactica is there for the taking.
Aug
6: Superbit DVD: Sony 'Columbia
Tristar Ent.' is producing a new Superbit DVD line of movies. What
does that mean for us? Rather than load the DVD with extra material like
Disney and New Line, Columbia Tristar will double the bit rate to increase
the quality of the video and push the envelope to create a cutting edge
picture and sound. What do this? Well, money - what else. These videos
will have little extras, but higher quality picture and cost more.
Example: Fifth element cost $19.99, the new Fifth Element Superbit DVD
will cost $27.95. First videos to be done will be, Johnny Mneumonic, Fifth
Element, Crouching Tiger, and Air Force One. When... October.
Aug
6: DS9, The Bastard Series: Genre
fan, Josh Hadley sent in a great opinion/editorial about how the fans of
Star Trek for some screwed up reason believe Deep Space 9, was the worst
series. These fans are... messed up in the head, but Josh agrees with me
too. READ HIS ARTICLE and see
why. Which do you like? DS9 was rich in character development, and
storylines. The other Trek series were more techno-babble and monster of
the week stories.
Aug
5: Raunchy Primetime: A shitty
watchdog group, Parents Television Council, vulgarities are more raunchy
on the six major networks first hour of primetime. UPN was the number one
offender with 18.1 instances per hour. Who gives a big shit? It is time
for parents to RAISE their own kids and stop expecting the networks, video
game makers and the music industry along with the public to do it for
them. If your putting your kids in front of the television so you don't
have to spend the time with them, your the fucked up parent. Man, you get
tired of these groups constantly deciding for the everyone else what the
hell we should be able to watch and listen to. Screw them! Says UPN about
the PTC, ""At UPN, we strongly believe in the viewers' right to
make an informed choice about what they watch, which is why we voluntarily
and clearly label every UPN program with a content rating,"
Aug
5: Mutant X Cast: CLICK

and its sister station the FX Channel has bought the network rights to
'Planet of the Apes', 'Dr. Dolittle 2', and 'Kiss of the Dragon'. The 5
year deal begins in 2004 with alternating schedules But Fox gets first
run. Isn't it odd that Fox produced all three of these films? But knowing
Twenty Century Fox maybe it isn't so... odd.
Aug
5: No Mask of Rock: Coming
Attractions has reported that 'Chris Rock' has turned
down the lead in the upcoming feature 'The Mask 2'.
Aug
5: Don't Ask Jeeves: Internet
search engine 'Ask Jeeves' has reported a second quarter loss. They have
lost $20.9M this quarter. It's a search engine, what the hell are they
selling? Who's buying what? Huh?
Aug
4: Tracker Casting: Ex WWF star
Chyna has been signed to a role in the upcoming Tracker pilot starring
Adrian Paul. For the 'Forever Knight' fans, Geraint Wyn Davies has
also signed on as a semi-regular. (email from Grant Rosenberg)
Aug
4: Exorcist IV a prequel: What
bother. The last two sequels were crap and now we get a fourth, that's a
prequel. Morgan Creek Productions is doing the prequel that will be
directed by John Frankenheimer.
Aug
4: Dawn of the Dead: Another Cult
classic to bite the dust, as Scooby Doo writer James
Gunn has been tapped to re-write the script. Beacon
Communications has acquired the rights to do it from producer Richard P.
Rubenstein, who's had the rights since 1978. Fans should be outraged over
this. Leave it alone!
Aug
4: War of the Worlds: Don't forget
to check out Sci-Fi 2000's 'War
of the Worlds' area, with press releases, concept art, and interview
with star Katie Tomlinson and images of her too. Click the link, to check
out what Timothy Hines has planned for his upcoming remake of the classic
50's film. It's nothing like that!
Aug
4: Enterprise Writers: Rick Berman
has released the names of some of the new 'Enterpise' series writers. They
are... the drum roll please... Fred Dekker (no relation to the commodore),
Andre Bormanis, Antionette Stella, and two teams of writers. Brannon and
Berman have written an additional one hour episode and the stories for
three more. The writers are being brought along slowly. Just
remember, NO halodecks and NO time displacement anomalies.

Aug
4: Henson's 'Scaper: Jim Henson
studios, who does the series 'Farscape' is trying to copyright and
trademark the term 'Scaper, which the fans of the series invented back in
January of 1999. A term they wish to use for greed and profit. What is
screwed up is that landscapes have used the term for years and it is used
on the Smucker's Jelly website. Should Henson be allowed to 'STEAL' a
word? (email from Delaquan)
Aug
4: Rollerball at 90: The new PG-13
cut of the Rollerball remake has brought the film down to a mere
87 minutes. 87 minutes? Who the hell wants to pay over $6 for a matinee to
see a movie that's under 90 minutes. Shit, animated features are getting
longer than that. Wait for the DVD.
Aug
4: Jane Doe: Teri Hatcher and Rob
Lowe will being starring in the upcoming USA network thriller 'Jane Doe'.
In the U.S. the film gets released on TV, but overseas in places like
Turkey, Greese and Italy it will get a theatrical release. Hatcher
plays a woman framed for murder while trying to rescue her kidnapped
son.
Aug
3: All Souls Returns: According to
UPN's weekly schedule the defunct series, 'All Souls' returns tonight
(Friday) at 9pm. The pilot is slated for tonight with another episode
scheduled next week. Get the VCRs hot on this short lived series from
Aaron Spelling.
Aug
3: Cube 2: Lion's Gate will be
producing the sequel to the sci-fi telefilm 'Cube'. This one is titled
Cube 2: Hypercube. The film is being produced by Ernie Barbarash (American
Psycho). Alex Sanger will overseas the project for Lion's Gate. The
original 'Cube' did well at the box office in Japan, Germany, Italy,
Poland, and France, but was a telefilm for Canada and the U.S. This
is old news but I hadn't posted it yet.
Aug
3: Australia Film Industry in Trouble: Australia
has become a haven for U.S. production companies due to the cheap dollar
and HUGE tax breaks. However, the Australian government has decided to get
greedy and now those tax breaks are being cut by the government. Moulin
Rouge and the Matrix films have lost millions of dollars by these cuts
being removed. With these tax breaks disappearing it could cripple the
Australian film industry.
Aug
3: Buffy/Roswell Return Early:
UPN has decided to push Buffy and Roswell up one week each for their
season premieres. Buffy will premiere on October 2nd, and Rowell gets into
the swing of things October 9th.
Aug
3: Enterprise Trailer: I saw the
30 second trailer last night during the two hour local Voyager run. The
previews look outstanding for the new series.
Aug
3: Kirk the Best: Scott Bakula
believes James Kirk is the first and last of the great Captains of Star
Trek. Says Bakula... "He's the Ultimate guy... you always live in the
shadow of William Shatner." Comparisons... Bakula went on to
say, "Archer is nothing like Capt. Kirk." Though he does add:
"Archer is a free-spirited guy... not afraid to say what he thinks
[or] buck authority. He's bold and brash and yes, the closest to Kirk —
even though I'm a 100 years before Kirk." (tv guide)
Aug
3: Bra Dollars: Some idiot paid
over $23,000 for a bra Madonna wore on her 'Girlie Tour'. What a dope...

Aug
3: Massacre Remake: Kim Henkel
and Tobe Hooper are contemplating the remake of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'.
They are looking into shooting the film with the new Sony HD F900, which
was used to shoot the new Star Wars Episode 2. There is no script but they
have an interesting idea. (AICN website).
Aug
3: Ghost Rider Status: Steve
Norrington is still planning to direct the new Ghost Rider film but the
picture is not moving forward fast enough so he has added another picture
to his slate. He will throw in the Jennifer Lopez film 'Tick Tock'. Ghost
Rider needs more prep time than they realized. It's a more extremely
technically complex project than they thought. Once the film has been
R&D'd the project will move forward.
Aug
2: Ghost in a Cage: Nicolas Cage
has scored the leading role in the upcoming feature film, Ghost Rider. When
Cage found out Depp was up for the lead, he called the director and told
him, "I am the Ghostrider" - that he was the biggest Ghost Rider
fan in the world and owned five of the Ghost Rider motorcycles. The deal is
being closed now. (Marlyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith) Production is slated
to begin in November, with locations slated for Canada and Arizona. John
Voight will co-star.
Aug
2: Prey News!!!: Sci-Fi Channel
Pays Attention:
What's a channel to do when fans of its highly popular show,
THE
INVISIBLE MAN starring Vincent Ventresca, join ranks with the
international "Prey For Us" campaign? If
it has a lick of sense, like the American SciFi Channel, it pays
close attention to the ever increasing international ruckus over getting
"Tom (Adam Storke) out the cage" and "Ed (Vincent
Ventresca) off the floor". The channel, which currently airs
PREY, an intelligent 1998 sci-fi drama from Warner, is creating a win
win marketing ploy by seriously listening to its viewers. In the last
aired episode of PREY, Storke was crammed into a small cage and
Ventresca was rendered senseless with an injection. What better way to
begin to assuage fan fervor for a resolution to the cliffhanger,
and to keep this portion of their audience, than to reunite
two of the three leads by bringing Storke into an INVISIBLE MAN episode.
The episode is entitled 'Exposed' and airs September
21st. "Ventresca comes across a character played
by Storke in similar circumstances and has a chance to set him
free." Armin Shimmerman (Star Trek DS9), who plays a
reoccurring character in season two, will be featured as well. This
update was proved by Joan McCartney of the Perseus
Project. Thanks Joan. Will the Sci-Fi Channel come through for
these fans like they are for the Battlestar Galactica fans?
Aug
2: Lost World Got BACK!: WPIX and
WGN have put up small notes in their Lost World area that the series will
return for a third season. Canada networks however may not be carrying the
third season since Canadian financing is gone. The series will no longer
meet the CTRC regulations and is no longer considered a Canadian
production. But right now, things have definitely brightened for the
return of the Lost World. However, hold the enthusiasm down a bit until
the final word gets out from New Line or the series producers.
Aug
2: XXX-Man: Vin Diesel will star
in the new XXX-Man feature playing a secret agent, 007 type character for
Revolution Studios. They are hoping to turn this into a franchise (today
that means a trilogy). The Diesel gets a big $10M for the role. Production
begins this fall for a spring 2002 release.

Jolie told E' Daily News that she will not start on the Tomb Raider sequel
for two years in case she gets prego. However, her and the hubby would
rather adopt. Just do the damn sequel will ya?
Aug
2: Ready on the Ring: The Peter
Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy is in the final stages of Post
Production. The first film has about 20% of the post-production process
left. Cast and crew are completing the dialogue re-recording and Howard
Shore is writing the score. (most scores today sound like something from
Star Wars or Aliens) The other two films are in various stages of work.
The second is further along than the third of course.
Aug
2: Lord Games: EA Sports has
landed the rights to create a series of games based on the New Line Cinema

soon.

2' talked about project.
Aug
2: Thanks Again Everyone: Just a
quick thanks to all of you who visit the site. You folks have given Sci-Fi

and 780,000 hits. This is great! Thank you all! For the past twelve months
the site has had 321K pageviews, and 3.4M hits. Whew!
Aug
1: Now & Again: The excellent
short-lived series, 22 episodes of Now and Again will be premiering on the
Sci-Fi Channel later this month in the Monday thru Thursday 9pm timeslot
before Earth: Final Conflict. The deal means the Sci-Fi Channel paid a
whopping $35K per episode for a three year exclusive airing. As if... any
other network, except maybe TV Land, would pay for a series with only 22
episodes.
AUG
1: Last Warrior: I have added
chapters 6 thru 8 to the online novel 'The
Last Warrior'.
Aug
1: Mechwarriors: Or Battletech as
it is also known has a live action pilot being done by Tribune Ent. who
has done 'Andromeda' and 'Mutant'. Foundation Imaging (Star Trek & the

have two other pilots in work based in the genre. The others pilots
are 'Pendragon', about Camelot. 'SPQR' about the gladiator area.
