30: Thieves: The new John
Stamos (full house) series about two thieves forced to work together
and for the government premiered this week. Here's Scott Strout's take
on the new series... Going in I thought this show would be just dreadful to
watch. To my surprise I found it not too bad. The opening theft and
action were fairly well done and while the premise of thieves working for the
government is silly I can put my brain to sleep and believe it. Melissa George is super sexy as Rita and from the
beginning she provides plenty of eye candy as she bounces around the
screen. The show isn't badly written, but is lacking in a couple of
aspects. John Stamos is just bad casting. He lacks the coolness and
natural smart ass ability of say a Bruce Campbell who would be a
better choice for the roll. Also He and George just don't have the on screen chemistry that really could make the show work like the
Moon Lighting atmosphere the show creators were looking for. Not a bad effort, but better casting then Stamos was needed.
Sept
29: Thor: There may not be a
TV Series happening, but a feature film is being fast tracked to hit
theatres by 2003. The 13th Warrior's Vladmir Kulich is being courted
for the lead.
Sept
29: Tremors 3: The third
installment, Tremors 3: Return to Perfection, being direct to video
will hit stores on Tuesday.
Sept
28: I-Man: The Sci-Fi Channel has
assembled a little gift for the fans of Prey. They are airing the final episode of the defunct but highly popular series
tonight at 7 PM EST, followed by a new episode of I-Man in which Prey co-stars, Adam Storke and Vince Ventresca are reunited in a situation similar to the one which ended Prey's cliffhanger.
To top off the fun, the channel is hosting a live chat with Adam Storke at 9pm, immediately after the I-Man episode airs. There is talk already that fans from around the world will be setting their alarm clocks for the middle of the night to attend the gathering.
While this is an unprecedented gesture on the part of a television network, it remains to be seen if they will be the ones to purchase the actual sequel from Prey creator, William Schmidt.
(Joan McCartney)
Sept 28: Prey:
On a side note to what Joan was nice enough to pass on, a network
other than the Sci-Fi Channel has expressed some interest in Prey.
There is no official word on which one, but who does Prey creator Bill
Schmidt work for now? That would be UPN.
Sept
28: Chimera: Steve Beck will
direct the supernatural feature film 'Chimera' for Joel Silver and
Robert Zemekis' Dark Castle Entertainment. (hollywood reporter)
Sept
28: The Agency: Scott Strout's
take on the series premiere of 'The Agency'... For 45
minutes The Agency was a well written story about a plot to
assassinate Fidel Castro. The CIA gets a lead on the shooter and
seeing he was trained by them their motive is to stop it so the heat
will not fall on them. Then it happened a final 15 minutes filled with
plot holes you could drive a truck through. If you know Castro might
be taken out why let him walk through the front open entrance of a
building? Why would the assassin under deep disguise do nothing more
to conceal his identity on the day of the assassination then wear
glasses and a police uniform. If you know an assassin is in the
building why not be scouring the place trying to find a man whose
identity you know. If the President can just pick up the phone and
call Castro then why not just tell him there's a plot to kill him and
that his security might be in on it. It was a good start turned to
brainless action in the final few minutes. Also it lacks the urgency
needed to make you feel the situation is real and the actors really
don't stand-out. While the show has C.S.I. as a lead in it's up
against powerhouse ER and a successful Primetime Thursday. I don't
give it hope to last the season unless it can develop more in depth
and long running storylines.
Sept
28: Halloween 8: Rick
Rosenthal, director of Halloween 8, told compuserve that the movie
tested extremely well with audiences but it was thought that some
changes to the ending needed to be done. So that is what they are
presently working on.
Sept
28: Basic: Samuel L. Jackson
is staying busy. He will now be teaming with John Travolta in 'Basic'.
The production is scheduled to begin near the end of November. The
story is about a DEA agent investigating the disappearance of a
respected Army Ranger's disappearance along with several cadets who
were with him at the time. (cinescape)
Sept
28: C.S.I.: This truly is a
great show as the second season premiered last night. While more of a
drama than anything, the series is extremely well written and the
characters work great together. C.S.I. is a series to catch every
Thursday night at 9pm.
Sept
27: Daredevil: Ben Affleck
appears headed towards the lead role for the upcoming Marvel comics,
'Daredevil'. Both Affleck and Matt Damon are big 'DD' fans. Producers
would like to sign someone on quickly since the project is due to ramp
up production in November.
Sept
27: Buffy DVD: The long
awaited 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer' DVD boxed set has an official
release date now of January 15th. The three disc boxed set will
present the episodes in full frame. The Cost... $39.98.
Sept
27: Enterprise Scores: UPN
finished up at number two for the night with its premiere of
'Enterprise'. The series pilot averaged a 9.9 rating.
Sept
27: Enterprise Review: Scott
Strout checked in with his quick review of the new Trek series...
Enterprise... Scott's Take: Finally after suffering
though the last years of Voyager the Star Trek franchise has some new
life. The two hour pilot was a great start to the newest series and
lends a lot of possibility for future storylines. Scott Bakula is
great as Jonathan Archer, he's no Kirk or Picard, but I prefer him
over Janeway after just one episode. Jolene Blalock is super sexy as
T'pol and her character helps add to the show. Sadly at least in the
pilot I felt like the other crew members were just there. Nobody
really sticking out, but their characters can be fleshed out in future
episodes. The real strong suit of the show is great special effects.
From the look of the ship, graphics even the phaser fights were better
then the other shows and sadly even a few of the movies. If the
writers can remember that their writing history for a future we've
already seen and avoid some of the anti-climatic story telling of DS9
then Enterprise will keep me watching. Tim here... I disagree
with Scott on the DS-9 story telling. It was the best of all the Trek
series.

27: Hulk Locating: Marvel's
Kevin Feige has told the Comics Continuum that they are scouting
locations around the country for the upcoming Incredible Hulk project
to be directed by Ang Lee. Right now they hunt for a small desert area
to be used for a small part of the film.
Sept
27: Enterprise Premiere: Did
you see it? The cast is excellent. The sets are incredible, as are the
special effects. However, I found the story very slow, as well as
predictable. We were dealt a typical timeline story from Braga and
Berman. Aliens getting directions from the future... surprise. What is
really great for now is that the Federation as we know it really
doesn't exist, yet. The new series does have potential, providing we
get some fresh writing. My Grade for the pilot movie... cast-B, SFX-A,
Sets-A, story-C.
Sept
27: Dragon's Lair: The classic
game from Digital Leisure has been announced for CD-Rom on October

original game. (scifi wire)

26: Diesel is Riddick: I guess
today you only have to have one or two successful films to get the big

Riddick in the upcoming sequel 'Pitch Black 2'. The going price for
Riddick... a whopping $11M. (variety)

considering a 22 episode purchase of the comic book 'Dinotopia'. The

project, Hallmark will shop the series idea to other networks. The
Hallmark Channel (Odyssey) is committed to airing repeats of the

fan will get a chance to visit the set of Star Trek 10. It's a
charity auction on eBay by the Chivas Brothers, creators of the Chivas
Regal Scotch Whiskey. The auction will benefit many
charities.
Sept
26: Enterprise the Savior:
Paramount is counting on 'Enterprise' to revive the fan interest in
Star Trek. However, it will be a tough road with Rick Berman and
Brannon Braga behind the series. These two have decimated the
franchise.
Sept
25: Robbie It Is: The remake
of the 1956 SF film 'Forbidden Planet' will indeed bring back Robbie
the Robot. He will not be updated at all. Robbie will be identical to
the original used in 1956. However, the electronics in Robbie's

is fast tracking the project. (dark horizons)
Sept
25: Deliverance Before Exposed: The
Sci-Fi Channel will indeed be showing the PREY finale 'Deliverance'
before the Invisible Man episode 'Exposed' which kind of offers fans a
semblance of an ending to the Prey episode. It all airs this Friday
night. Prey fans tune in. Hopefully the ratings will be good enough
that they will listen to Bill Schmidt when he pitches the Prey idea to
them. Me, I think he might pitch the idea to UPN where he is now
working on UPN's 'Special Unit 2' seires.
Sept
25: Scooby: AICN has some
completed images of the computer generated Scooby Doo for the feature
film. Head to AICN to check it out.
Sept

episode in the new season of UPN's 'Special Unit' was written by Bill

series.
Sept

now a full three minute trailer online for download. Check out the
trailer at the official 'Lord
of the Rings' website.
Sept
25: Jeepers Creepers: There
are rumblings about the sequel 'Jeepers Creepers 2'. According to
Fangoria magazine, director Victor Salva has big plans for the film
which includes more action, monsters, and means a lot more victims
too. Jonathan Breck and Gina Philips both have sequel clauses in their
original contracts so it is likely they would both return.
Sept
25: Crossing Jordan on NBC:
The series stars Jill Hennessy as Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh. Here is Scott
Strout's take on the opening episode... From
the commercials I was expecting Jill Hennessy's sex appeal to be the
focus of the show. Upon viewing what we get is a decent drama in the
Law & Order vein. Jill Hennessy is good as Jordan a character
stepping on toes, ignoring the higher ups, but never turning off the
audience. The show lacks the scientific coolness and energy of C.S.I.
Also if Hennessy's character is going to catch the bad guy all by
herself every week then plausibility will got out the window. It's
like Baywatch...I mean how do lifeguards get into that much trouble?
All and all not a bad addition to the NBC line-up and if it can hold
the audience once it has Third Watch as a lead in, it will do fine.
Also if it's a hit we'll never have to see a sequel to Kommodo
Sept
25: Keep Aaliyah?: Over 10,000
fans want Warner Bro. to keep the scenes of Aaliyah in the film. Even
though enough footage wasn't shot to use them in the two films where
her character 'Zee' has a much larger and important role. Keep the
scenes? NO. This isn't a memorial movie, it's a set of two films
valued at nearly $300M and two or three times that at the box office
world wide. Fans should expect to see the scene on the DVD as
supplemental material but NOT in the actual films. She had not
completed all of her scenes before she died in the plane crash.
Sept
24: Pitch Black 2: Vin Diesel
has agreed in principle to return, and director David Twohy will step
back into the directors chair. Unfortunately however Universal has
targeted a Memorial Day 2003 release date. X-Men writer David Hayter
will pen the script for the sequel.
Sept
24: Blade 3: Wesley Snipes
must enjoy playing the character 'Blade' because the Calgary Sun is
reporting that Snipes has asked 'Blade 2' scribe David Goyer to write
a third installment for 'Blade'. Blade 2 will hit theatres in summer
2002.
Sept
24: Enterpise VCD: Enterprise

many others are there for download. 'CLICK

will be overseen by Digital Domain. The 10th installment will begin

Sept
24: Timeline: While this
feature is still in pre-production, it now looks like filming might
move here to the U.S. IGN Filmforce is citing the reasons as poor

castle sets. Timelines location manager is now scouting U.S.

ready...
Sept
23: 24: TV Guide once called
Fox's new series '24', starring Kiefer Sutherland, the best new
series. Sutherland plays an anti-terrorist government agent trying to
stop an assassination. It is done in real time, 24 days in 24
episodes. A fast pasted series that is now in some sort of limbo based
on the events of Sept. 11th. It is unknown whether the show will be
redone, or shown as intended. 24 is scheduled to air Tues. at
9pm.
Sept

Sept
23: Jules Verne Returns: It
didn't score the ratings on the Sci-Fi Channel (not many series do)

will be broadcast in 'Letterbox' as it was filmed, and shown on the
SFC.

that Paramount is developing a picture in the vein of 'Journey to the
Center of the Earth' title... 'The Core'. The feature is slated to
begin production in December while being helmed by director Jon Ameil.
Peter Hyams was a one time negotiating to direct the film. Terranauts
have to correct a planet crushing flaw at the Earth's core due to a
toxic waste reaction.
Sept
22: Lost In Space: the Dark
Horizons website has a rumor from Coming Attractions that NBC might be
developing a 'Lost In Space' mini-series. It may include several
members of the original series passing off the torch to a whole new
crew. No script has apparently been done yet. If successful could
always lead to a new series.
Sept
22: Wolf Lake: The new CBS
series 'Wolf Lake' starring Lou Diamond Phillips debuted looking like
expected. Boring - doomed before it aired after the complete rewrite
of the script, and heavy re-shoots. While the series gained its best
ratings CBS has had in this slot, it still got beat by a repeat of
'Law & Order' and ABC's '20/20'. In a better time slot the series
might actually do better.
Sept
22: No Nosebleed: The new
action film project 'Nosebleed' from Jackie Chan has been pulled. It
revolved around a window washer (jackie chan) at the World Trade
Center, who overhears a plot to blow up the Statue of Liberty. He
gains the help of a waitress at the Windows of the World restaurant.
You can see why this one has been pulled.

Christian Gudegast and Paul Scheuring.
Sept
22: Xbox - Less: A big rumor
in the gaming industry has Microsoft shipping only 300,000 units of
its Xbox gaming system, when between 600K & 800K were talked
about. Microsoft has announced the release date has been pushed back a
week from November 8th to November 15th. I ask all gamers to be
patient. It should be worth the wait. Any REAL American gamers will
get one of these units. It is after all the ONLY gaming system
manufactured completely in the United States.
Sept
22: Buffy Quitting?: There are
rumors that Michelle Gellar, who plays Buffy, will leave the show in
2003 when her contract is up.
Sept
22: Preacher: Production on
the comic book character is set to begin in November. While they would
like to see a Dougray Scott, or Ben Affleck sign on to play Jesse, an
unknown would work fine too. They are also interested in signing
interesting name and not just commercial ones. (comics2film.com)
Sept
22: Disney's Picture Slate:
Anyone care what Disney has on their animated slate? No... me neither.
No point in reporting it then.
Sept
22: Scott Free Deal: Scott

three year first look producing and directing deal with 20th Century
Fox. The deal includes a directing commitment for both to do at least
one film for the studio during that time frame.
Sept
21: Mad-donna: Got to drop my
two-cents in on this thing that sings, called Madonna. Her concert
last Friday was started with a Prayer, asking President Bush to show
some restraint. Over 6000 people are dead or missing of all races, and
nationalities. Persons from 65 countries died in the attack. And this
'Terrorist Sympathizer' wants us to show restraint. As she
says, terrorism happens around the world, insinuating it is something
we must live with. It isn't... What a loser!
Sept
21: 2001 Returns: Stanley
Kubrick's '2001' returns to theatres in October in limited release.

hell passes through the United States in the wake of the attack
several thousand Vegas employees were let go last night by MGM
properties (NY NY, Bellagio, treasure island, mirage, etc), Park Place
(flamingo, paris, & bally's), and Mandalay Bay properties (circus
circus, excalibur, luxor, etc.) the Aladdin dumped 500 employees
alone, giving them a letter at the end of their shifts... No relief
fund for Vegas I guess. The biggest fuck comes in this... MGM donated
$1M to N.Y. and then laid off several hundred employees to make up for
it.
Sept

Edgar Hoover's FBI
Sept

begin before the end of the year.
Sept
20: I-Man Episode Delayed: The
'PREY' related episode every 'PREY' fan was waiting for has been
pushed back from this Friday on the Sci-Fi Channel. This is due to the
fact that the major networks are having a 'telethon'. The cliffhanger
for Prey was to air before the I-Man episode 'Exposed'. Now the SFC
will air a Star Trek episode in place of 'Prey' and a rerun of I-Man
instead of Exposed. There is no current date for when the episodes
will now air together.
Sept
20: The Dead Zone: The TV
Series starring Anthony Michael Hall (61) and Nicole deBoer (deepspace
nine) is not dead. Lion's Gate is still reporting the TV Pilot will be
seen soon on UPN. Ex-Trek producer Michael Piller is producing the

tested with audiences the best rating a UPN pilot has received
yet.
Sept

series.

directors commentary, and a making of. The film will also offer an
anamorphic widescreen transfer.
Sept
20: Terrorist Rentals Up:
Perhaps Hollywood and some of the American public should sit up and
take notice by what is renting at the box office. What is it...
TERRORIST movies. People love to see the terrorist get their asses
kick. It isn't that act that WE see so much as the action taken
against the maniacs who did it. People are renting these films for the
fantastic endings. Are there any better than Bruce Willis in Die Hard
1,2, or 3? Hell no... "Yippee Kai-aaiiii Motherfucker."
America and our Allies are tough bastards. Don't forget it. Stop
treating us like children.
Sept

Apparently an advocate group is trying to get video stores to pull
movies like 'Die Hard', 'Armageddon', 'Independence Day', and 'Deep
Impact' from their shelves. Who the fuck are these people to tell me
what I can rent to watch! These people get too carried away.
FREEDOM... that includes renting or buying what I want to watch.
Sept
18: UPN: The United Paramount

Lambert and Adrian Paul were both signed on to a fifth film titled
'the Source'. Along with them is Elizabeth Gracen, Paul Wingfield, and

just flashback scenes. Isn't three straight flops enough in the series
of films? (dark horizons) ATTENTION: Adrian Paul however is NOT signed
onboard this projects.
Sept
18: Potter Sequel: After
bashing the Potter movie for not being intriguing enough for him to
do, now Steven Spielberg says he might, might be persuaded to do the third book, 'Harry
Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban'. Who needs him now.

16: Bleeth a Druggie: The one
time Baywatch & Nash Bridges star is apparently a drug addict.
Yasmine Bleeth is facing jail time over after getting busted with
cocaine in her pocketbook after a car accident. The 33 year old drug
addict spent time in rehab last year for substance abuse. Lock the
drug addict up for a while. Nothing better to do with all that money,
the looks, and some talent. What a waste of flesh.
Sept
15: Braga Tired of Trek: While
talking with SFX Magazine recently - writer and trek producer 'Brannon
Braga' said he was tired of writing for Voyager. He didn't think he
could have written one more line of dialog for the show. Believe me Mr.
Braga, we the fans could tell. You must have been tired for years. The
series suffered, the franchise suffered and the fans suffered as well.
Thanks for sticking around and giving us your best. Yeah, right. Braga
says he's refreshed with the new Trek series. We'll see...
Sept

Diesel' has been offered the leading role in Guillermo Del Toro's

like the movie has officially been scrapped, at least in the U.S., by the studio. Apparently
everyone involved, including Arnold agree with the decision. The
multi-million dollar film has been completed. I was looking forward to this
film. I hope at some point the picture at least finds its way 'direct
to video'. the Australian website Dark Horizons is reporting that
the film has been pushed back to 2002.
Sept

The reason, what else but lack of ad revenues. The demo gaming site
has been around for over four years.
Sept

For some unknown reason plans are afoot for a Pet Cemetery 3 project
to be directed by Mary Lambert and produced by Ralph Singleton. News
continues that Anthony Edwards and Edward Furlong would appear in
cameos and they seem to believe they could land James Van Der Beek or
James Marsden to star... Teen 17 is reporting that Brendan Fehr
(Roswell) is the front runner for the lead role.
Sept
15: Kari Wuhrer: Remember the
babe from 'Sliders' and 'Anaconda'? Well the actress will be appearing

& Emmerich (ID4) It hits theaters on March 15th.

being pushed back several months now.
Sept
14: Scott's Sci-Fi: Scott
Strout is a new contributor to Sci-Fi 2000. It has been an interesting
summer of Sci-Fi for Scott. Read his Summer Review in Scott's
Rant.
Sept
14: Spidey Gets Modified: In a
stupid decision by Sony they will use digital technology to remove the
World Trade Center from its scenes of New York in the film.
Sept
14: Dark Angel Movie?: James
Cameron has told Cinescape online that if the series continues to do
well, there is the possibility that a feature film might be made. But
first the fan base must increase.
Sept
14: Iron Man: Buffy &
Angel creator Joss Whedon is reportedly considering an offer to script
the upcoming Marvel comics 'Iron Man' feature film.
Sept 13:
Message to Hollywood: We, the world,
are able to distinguish reality from make believe. So give us a break
with the schedule changes, scrapping of films based on content similar
to real life events and situations. We need these movies to escape
reality. You will get the jest of what I am talking about from todays
news. It all sucks...
Sept
13: Spiderman Pulled: The new
promo for Spiderman featuring a spun web by the webslinger 'Spiderman'
between the World Trade Center twin towers has been pulled by Sony in
recognition of the 'Act of War' against the U.S. in which these same
buildings were destroyed. The feature is now in post production and
may get some alterations before its release.
Sept
13: Collateral Moved: The new
Arnold Swarzenegger feature 'Collateral Damage', which involve the
Swarz's character losing his family in a terrorist bombing, may be
scrapped completely rather than just getting pushed back. This is a
horrible decision if it happens.
Sept
13: Dark Angel: (good news)
The second season, now in production in Vancouver, have managed to
come in under budget. Episode 4 was slightly over but episode 3 was
actually under budget, so it worked out.
Sept
13: Men In Black 2: The
sequel, set in New York, has now been suspended with no return to
production date. Even the comedy 'Big Trouble' is being pushed back to
sometime in 2002. Hollywood... you puss!
Sept
13: Wolf Lake: I have seen
this posted in several places with many people under the assumption
that the new 'Wolf Lake' series is a werewolf series. From the promos
and information released this is a series about a town in which many
can turn into a 'WOLF' and not a 'Werewolf'. There is a big difference
in the two creatures.
Sept
13: Independence Day: Fox has
pulled the film 'Independence Day' from its line-up in lieu of current
events. Only theme matters now I guess, not the fact that the United
States, and the world rise above the ashes and kick some ass.
Sept
12: No War For Worlds?: In a
big mistake Pendragon Pictures will be putting its 'War of the Worlds'
remake on Hiatus. Immediate Press Release... Pendragon Pictures
announces that, due to many story similarities of their production of
WAR OF THE WORLDS to the tragic and horrific events surrounding the
World Trade Center attack, production is forced to go on hiatus. For
at least one to two weeks the principles at Pendragon Pictures will
assess the project's potential effects on the spirit of the world.
Says Timothy Hines, "I don't, in any way, wish to potentially
contribute to the pain and grief of those affected by this senseless
act of terror." The hearts and condolences of the principles,
cast and crew of Pendragon Pictures' WAR OF THE WORLDS go out to all
of those who are suffering from this loss. This is a
mistake... the picture should go on.
Sept
12: Episode One DVD: George
Lucas was charged $4M (nice bullshit tax write off) by his own ILM for
new material produced for the Episode One DVD. The DVD will sport
seven scenes that were cut from the film and several completely new
shots that only last a few seconds each. Star Wars Episode One is due
on DVD October 16th.
Sept
12: Lost World: Fans in the US
should be happy as the third season of the once nearly gone series
will be seen in 95% of the TV markets. Not bad! Season three premieres
Oct 15th.
Sept
12: Enterprise: Roxanne
Dawson, who played Torrez on Voyager, has finished directing an
episode of the new Trek series... 'ENTERPRISE'. Her episode is the
seventh episode of the season. Brannon Braga as added that the
original series Andorians were the silliest aliens in the Trek
Universe and fans should enjoy the update to their look, and the
series will explore them more.
Sept
12: Lawless X-Filed: AICN is
reporting a source report that Lucy Lawless, XENA, will appear
frequently in the new season of the X-Files. Her character will be
associated to the thought dead... Cigarette-Smoking Man. Lawless will
appear in the first and second episode with the Cig-Smoking Man
re-appearing in episode two. The X-Files season premieres on Fox
November 4th.
Sept
11: No News Today: With the
attacks on this country today there just isn't the mood, need or
desire for something as trivial as entertainment news today... a
tragedy... Sci-Fi 2000 will resume with news tomorrow.
Sept
10: Daredevil: According to a
report from the Hollywood Reporter, their sources have confirmed that Vin
Diesel has been offered the lead role in the upcoming 'Daredevil'
feature film based on the Marvel character. It does seem
unlikely the actor will accept the role based on his schedule with 'XXX',
'Diablo', and perhaps 'Terminator 3' and the 'Pitch Black' sequel. The
actor reportedly has a slew of other projects being offered to him.
Sept
10: Resident Evil: You begin to wonder if this film will ever make it to the
theatre. Right now the Zombie flick is scheduled to hit U.S. Theatres
on April 5, 2002. the Dark Horizon website has a few images on their
site with a link to the Resident Evil forum.
Sept
10: Star Trek 10: Levar
Burton has said that Whoopie Goldberg may reprise her role of 'Ginan'
(sp) in a cameo during the opening scene for the tenth film. Paramount
can't even get the regulars signed to the projects because the studio
is greedy and they are still talking cameos.
Sept
10: Apes Movie DVD: For a mere
$29.99 it looks like those buying the Tim Burton's 'Planet of the
Apes' DVD will be getting about 13 hours of material on the two-disc
set. Way to go Fox!. The DVD hits stores two days before Christmas.
The VHS will be priced for rental but available to do so on November
20th.
Sept
10: Musketeer #1: With a slow
box office right now, the Musketeer finished up the weekend in the top
spot taking in almost $11M. The film cost $40M to create from
Universal and Miramax. This is the latest chopsocky feature to be
released - featuring acrobatic swordplay.
Sept
10: First Wave Finale: The
final new First Wave episode airs Saturday 15 September. Show your
support for the series by taking in it last episode. The episode
should have been titled 'Last Wave'. Here is another series that will
need a two-hour movie to end the series for its fans. It took over 25
years before Gilligan and cast got off that friggin' island.
Sept
10: Rush Hour 2: The
Chan/Tucker feature broke the $200M mark this weekend leading most to
believe for sure there will be third film - Rush Hour 3
Sept
10: Wolf Lake; the First: This
series looks unique in the previews but is my first genre pick to bite
the dust this season. The idea that was originally picked up and just
been hacked, rewritten, and beat to death for what was finally settled
on. Generally not a good thing for series or features.
Sept
10: 13 Ghosts: Re-shoots for
the film will be happening in Vancouver this week.
Sept
10: Conan 3: Dwayne Johnson,
the Rock, has declared he is not involved in the upcoming King
Conan: Crown of Iron. He is however good friends with the previous
Conan star Arnold Swartzenegger. If the story could be about an older
Conan, the Swartz would be perfect.
Sept
10: Mutant X: The previews for
this new series premiering Nov 7 on WGN, and other networks of course,
looks incredible! This might be the new syndicated series to watch...
a series to give Andromeda a run for the number one genre spot this
season. I just hope - hope that it is as good as the previews we have
seen so far.
Sept
9: Prey Fans Celebrate!!!: Writer/Producer,
William Schmidt (charmed, special unit 2) has dusted the cob webs off
his original PREY bible with a special project entitled 'Tom's
Story'. Now syndicated in over 30 countries, PREY
hypothesized a survival conflict between homo sapiens and their
evolutionary remolded kin. International fervor for a revival or
sequel to the series has been escalating since the show's premature
cancellation in 1998 by a sci-fi skittish ABC. Speculation over which
American network will get the offer is still open. Don't bet on one of
the BIG Three who have never been able to understand the genre. UPN,
Fox, and the WB, however, have all tasted success within the realm,
and the Frog, of course, holds ownership rights to the series. But
indications are that the pitch will be made to the popular Sci-Fi
Channel. Not only has the cabler captured the loyalty of Prey's
hungry- for- more followers with its consistent airing of reruns, it
openly recognize the die hard audience by reuniting Prey leads, Adam
Storke and Vincent Ventresca in an episode of The Invisible Man,
one of its prime successes in which Ventresca stars. (freelance writer
Joan McCartney)
Sept
9: Special Unit 2: Evan Katz's
Special Unit 2 team has been seriously applying the spit
and polish to season two episodes. With special consultants Jim
Finn (Andromeda FX Supervisor) and Bill Schmidt (Prey/
Charmed writer/producer) wielding their own magic brooms, you know
fans are in for some exciting results. The sexy season opener, which
sweeps into your home on October 3rd, conjures up a youth
craving witch on the prowl for a bunch of, shall we say . . . suckers.
Then there’s “The Skin” to creep you out with a human/chameleon
hybrid who puts a spin on the real meaning of cold blooded. Come
Halloween, John de Lancie brings his charisma to the series as king of
the Links. If you had the luck to watch John develop Star Trek’s
omnipotent and full of himself, “Q”, you won’t want to miss what
he does with his newest single lettered character, “Y”. Special
Unit 2 airs Wednesdays at 9 PM on UPN. (freelance writer Joan
McCartney)
Sept
9: Reeves A Quality Guy: Keannu
Reeves earns a gold star and a favorite of this site. He has done it
before to get actors but this time the young star of the Matrix
sequels has given up part of the back end of his deal on the sequels
to the studio. Why... He asked the studio to split the money between
the special-effects and costume-design workers stating that he felt
they were the ones who made the movie and that they should participate
in the money. This is a stand up man looking out for the people who
make him look good. Nice One!!! (hollywood.com)
Sept
9: EFC Sucks!???: Does Earth:
Final Conflict suck in repeats? Judging by the rating on the Sci-Fi
Channel it does. Fans aren't tuning in. Suffering the same fate as Now
& Again from bad ratings the channel has pulled the series from
its prime time line-up. It has been replaced by 'Tales From the
Crypt'. Is it the series, or is the SFC expecting recent series to be
a ratings hound like 'Babylon 5'? Running repeats of anything in prime
time isn't likely to get the quality ratings the channel suddenly
expects. The stupid bastards should have spent the money and picked up
the 'Star Trek' franchise.
Sept
9: Farscape Renewal: It
officially hasn't happened as of this moment. It is being planned and
the scripts are in work. However it comes down to money again. There
is still some negotiations going on between the series production
partners. You watch, these... fuckshits will cut the budget in some
fashion and well lose the quality stories and end of with crappy
effects. It just ain't right. It ain't!
Sept
9: Star Trek,
the Email Game: There is a new Star Trek Rangers email role playing game
online. Takes minutes to learn and is easy to play. Check out STAR
TREK Audacious... it takes place after Next Generation, Deepspace
Nine and Voyager. Visit the GREAT
LINKS Area for other wonderful sites to check out.
Sept
9: Psychics Everywhere!:
Listen carefully. . .Do you hear it? The distinct sound of bleating as
one slightly panicked sheep follows the other. Now how long did you
honestly expect the big three to sit quietly and ignore all the hubbub
about the Sci-Fi Channel’s reality/paranormal hit, Crossing Over
with John Edwards? Before the ink was dry on C-O’s
syndication contract with CBS2, the mad scramble was on. Picking
up on the frantic spirit, ABC hooked famous psychic, George
Anderson, to host Contact, a series of hour long chats with departed
"notable" entities. NBC quickly netted James van Praagh for
their own spiritual renewal. Now all we need is The Sylvia Brown Show.
Did someone just say, “Baa”? (Joan McCartney)
Sept
8: Rings vs Potter: Lord of
the Rings apparently will be going head to head with Harry Potter at
the theatres next summer. The $300M trilogy against the $150M Harry
Potter film. Personally I am looking forward to see the Hobbit trilogy
and have little interest in the other.
Sept
8: Willard Gets Done: Morgan and Wong have sealed the deal with New Line for a
remake of the 1971 horror feature 'Willard'. This will be Glenn
Morgan's directorial debut. His partner Wong, is finishing up his Jet
Li feature 'the One' for Revolution. Willard is the story of a dysfunctional
adult who uses rats to exact his revenge on them. (variety)
Sept
8: America Loves... Star Trek:
TNN, the National Network, will air a Star Trek documentary titled...
'America Loves... Star Trek'. It will open their week long Star Trek
marathon. The documentary will look at the characters, cast and
storylines over the years. There are interviews with cast members from
all the series except for 'Deepspace Nine'. It will also cover
the franchises impact on society and so on. It begins airing the week
of Oct 1 -5 (9am - 3am) with three Star Trek movies and 77 favorite
episodes of Star Trek: the Next Generation.
Sept
8: Sega Gaming: Sega may not
be able to complete in the gaming console business, but they
apparently know about video games. SEGA Gaming has announced that they
plan to bring their SEGA sports franchise to all other game platforms.
This includes Microsoft's XBox and Nintendo's Game Cube.
Sept
8: Don't Be
Afraid of the Dark: Morgan and Wong have also gotten the
greenlight from Miramax Films for 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark'. It is
based on a 1973 ABC TV Movie concerning a woman who inherits a house
inhabited by miniature demons. This one is being put into development
now and begins production as soon as the team is done with 'Willard'.
Sept
8: Collateral Damage: The new Arnold feature about a fireman whose family is
killed by terrorist opens in theatres on October 8th. It appears that
many of you have listened to the rampages of 'Harry Knowles' calling
Swartzenegger a dinosaur. The Sixth Day was a quality picture from
Arnold and Collateral Damage looks to be even better. Give it a
chance. Arnold can still carry a feature that appeals to young adults.
Dark Horizons has some
images sent to him by Warner Brothers.
Sept
8: Farscape Finale: While fans will have to wait a bit to see the series three
finale, which covers the final four episodes, it is said to be big.
The four episode arc will conclude three storylines carried through
the season and have one big secret scene that only three people know
about. As usual the final episode will not air until just prior to the
season four premiere - if there is one.
Sept
8: No Star Wars DVD: Lucas not
only doesn't have time for Indiana Jones 4 until 2006, he isn't even
thinking about the original Star Wars Trilogy for DVD until around the
same time frame. The man is just to plain busy with his current 'Star
Wars: Episode 2' feature and following 'Episode 3'. So much for the
term designating authority. This is called micro-management.
Sept
8: Hollywood Under 40 Money:
Big Hollywood names have made the Fortune Magazine under 40 money
list. Tom Cruise is at number 19 with $251M, while Jim Carrey sits
further down at 36 with a mere $171M (the poor bastard). Also on the
list at number 13 is Michael Jordan with $398M. Who was number one?
Why Michael Dell, who dropped from $21B down to 16Bk.
Sept
7: Marvel Comics: Marvel is
really kicking some ass in the sales department these days with a
number of titles coming to feature films. Seems lost fans are coming
back to comics. For the third straight month Marvel comics have had at
least 20 of the top 25 titles. In August they had 21. Top selling
comic was Ultimate X-Men, and number 3 was Ultimate Spiderman.
Sept
7: Myers Expensive: How much
do you get for playing four roles in a feature? Well, Movie Hole is
reporting that Mike Myers will get $25M against 21% of the films
gross. Production on this film is moving very fast. $25M... give me a
fucking break!
Sept
7: Rainbow Six: Tom Clancy has
little trouble selling his novels for feature films... Paramount
Pictures has bought the rights to his next book, 'Rainbow Six' and
already brought in Art Monterastelli to adapt the book into script.
The lead character in the book, John Clark, did appear in 'Clear and
Present Danger' and was played by William Defoe.
Sept
7: Mr.Showbiz Closes: Mr.
Showbiz will be closing down next month as the Disney Corporation
phases out the site moving much of there stuff its ABC.com site. Mr.
Showbiz.com was original part of the Starwave Entertianment Group
(which was started by Microsoft) sold the site to Disney in for about
$100M. Mr.Showbiz.com was originally found in 1995.
Sept
6: Neverworld: A
series pilot under development from Kelsey Grammer (frasier), Robert
Nathan and Paramount Network TV, has been picked up by Fox. Neverworld
will follow a young man who manages to land himself into a parallel
universe. Nathan will create and produce while Grammer gets to
executive produce the project. (variety)
Sept
6: Band of Brothers: The Tom
Hanks produced 10 hour War mini-series 'Band of Brothers' premieres on
HBO this Sunday. Check you HBO listings for exact times.
Sept
6: Enterprise Big Screen: They
haven't taken over the Next Generation guys yet, but the pilot movie
telefilm will get the big screen treatment from UPN in Nashville,
Tenn. Fans will only get to see it one hour before everyone else on
TV, but they get to see it on the big screen. UPN should have done
this in other cities. Buffy may get the same treatment.
Sept
6: Mindhunters: Renny Harlins
new thriller 'Mindhunters' is about seven young FBI agents who are
part of the 'serial killer profiling division' recruits that are
training on an island. It soon becomes apparent that one of them is a
killer and the rest of them must use their talents to figure out which
one of them it is - before they all die. Deep Blue Sea's L.L. Cool J
is in negotiations to star in the lead role. The film will have
five producers.

their next project. It was officially announced at Dragon*con in
Atlanta.
Sept
6: Joss Whedon Interview: Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon has an interview up at The
Orion AV Club
Sept
6: Night Visions: The Fox supernatural series Night Vision is pretty much
in the tank after its August 24 episode which ranked fifth in its
timeslot and only gained a 4.5 rating. Doomed is the word. There
are only two new episodes left in the series which airs the next to
last episode tomorrow night.
Sept
6: Austin Powers 3: The title for the third installment is 'Goldmember' and New
Line has given the green light to the project. Mike Myer will also
play 'Rat Bastard' in the third film as well as putting on the role of
the main Villain and be Dr. Evil too. Also slated to return are
mini-me, and Seth Green as Evil's son. Director Jay Roach and Myers
are hoping that perhaps Tom Cruise and Sean Connery will do comeos. I
just hope this one isn't as stupid as the second film.
Sept
6: The Bourne Identity: This
film apparently got past a lot of people. Matt Damon stars in the
feature film based on the character Jason Bourne by novelist Robert
Ludlum. The idea from Universal is to turn this into a film franchise.
along the lines of, who else but James Bond. Also appearing in the
film is... Franka Potenta, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and
Judy Profit. Bourne Identity is already in Post Production and
scheduled for a April 2002 release date. The story: A man wakes up on
a beach with amnesia and multiple gunshot wounds, and must discover
what his identity used to be before he winds up dead. His clues? His
initials, the knowledge his facial features have been altered and a
piece of micro-film implanted in his hip (From
Joan)
Sept
6: Stalker: Rob Cohen, Bob
Gale (Back to the Future) and Columbia Pictures are making this film
which has apparently moved into development hell for some unknown
reason. Stalker tells the story of first contact with an
extraterrestrial race which occurred long ago. Now a group of
individuals work to infiltrate the core of a quarantined area to
determine the secret that lies within. There is no word on any players
yet.
Sept
5: Conan 3: Looking forward to
the long talked about Conan 3 feature? Might want to plan on waiting a
while longer as the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix) who will be
directing want the recent script from John Milius toned down and he is
balking at the changes. The project is at a stalemate at this point.
(dark horizons) Hey! - Film the 'R' version for DVD and cut to film to
PG-13 afterwards for the theatrical release. Oh, there is a title to
the film... King Conan: Crown of Iron.
Sept
5: Willard Remake: Morgan
& Wong (Space Above and Beyond) are shopping a spec script for the
'Rats' remake of 'Willard'. To promote the script the duo are sending
the spec script to studios inside a cage full of rats. So far they
have send the script out to Dreamworks and Miramax along with some
others.
Sept
5: Indiana Jones 2006: God
like creature 'George Lucas' has told a French Magazine that there
will be no Indiana Jones 4 feature until at least 2006. His mind is
focused on his Star Wars projects until 2005. Gee thanks Mr. Lucas,
why the fuck bother to talk about doing one. Just what we need, a 60
year old Indiana Jones kicking the crap out of bad guys. Pleeeeasseee...
Sept
5: Back to the Future 4: Disregard
all the crap you've been hearing about the possible 'Back to the
Future 4' feature. It's just a rumor with nothing to it... so far.
Never say never in this business. Producer Bob Gale says you couldn't
do a fourth film without Michael J. Fox and he is in no condition to
do another one.
Sept
5: Back to the Future DVD: Why
did we have to wait so long for the trilogy to maybe happen on DVD in
2002? Well, according to the digital bits website Universal has been
waiting for a deal to the overseas rights to the trilogy with Columbia
expires. That is said to happen at the end of this year.
Sept
5: Forbidden Planet:
Dreamworks is doing a new version of the 1956 MGM film 'Forbidden
Planet'. New Line has been toying with the idea for a year and a half
but their rights to the project expired and Dreamworks picked them up.
A writer is expected to be hired soon.
Sept
5: Exit Wounds: If you missed
the feature at the box office, don't miss out it, on DVD. This picture
has Joel Silvers name on it, as Steven Seagal attempts to make a
comeback in his career minus the ponytail and about 45lbs. Rent it
today!
Sept
5: Rollerdud: Star Chris
Kline, who did his own stunts in the film, says 'Rollerball' will be
worth the wait, and he is very happy with the movie. Do you
think anyone will come out and say, 'Hey, my latest movie sucks!
Please don't go see it!' I don't think so. This film has been
re-edited and hacked to death for a running time of just 89 minutes to
get a PG-13 rating - and then has had some scenes re-shot. Starting to
sound like last years 'Supernova'. 89 minutes? That's like an animated
feature or Telefilm without commercials.
Sept
5: the Seventh Stream:
Hallmark Ent. is shooting a new fantasy television movie for CBS
titled, 'The Seventh Stream' which stars Scott Glenn (Silverado and
Backdraft) and Saffron Burrows (deep blue sea). Joel gray will script
and direct the telefilm about an Irish fisherman, Owen Quinn, who is
recovering from the death of his wife and who falls in love with a
mysterious, beautiful woman. The woman's arrival brightens up the life
of the entire village, but as Quinn uncovers details about his new
love's past, he stumbles upon a mystery straight out of Irish folklore.

5: Early Edition: Remember
this series? A man in Chicago gets tomorrows paper today. Well the
fans of the series remember it. The repeats are scoring a rating of
1.6 - which is better than repeats of the last season of Star Trek
Voyager, and nearly as well as Andromeda, Profiler (another
one), Invisible Man, Earth: Final Conflict and others. Early Edition
along with Profiler and Pretender were maintaining ratings in the low
to mid 6's when they were canned. These three were not expensive
series and would have been a wonderful fit on the Sci-Fi Channel. They
would have made a strong night for the channel.
Sept
5: E.T. revisited: Universal/Amblin
is planning a re-release at the box office of E.T. next spring to
celebrate the films 20th anniversary. Another way to suck up some
serious dough before the DVD gets released. Duh...
Sept
5: Goonies DVD: This is a must
have for any fan out there. A 7 minute featurette, 7 minutes of
outtakes which include the 'Octopuss' scene and the musocvideo from
Cyndi Lauper. The video is rated as an A. You like 'the Goonies'? You
gotta have!!! "Goonies never say die!"
Sept
5: Farscape: The wonderful
series from the Sci-Fi Channel and Henson productions continues to get
released two episodes at a time on DVD. Discs 6 and 7 are coming
folks. This is fucked up though. Should be seasonal boxed sets like
Buffy, X-Files, the new Trek series coming out soon and others.
Sept
5: Mutant X: The TV
Commercials are running for the new marvel comics series. They effects
and production quality look outstanding. better than many genre series
currently running. A... must see series I think.
Sept
4: UPN Goes Buffy: Beginning
October 2nd, UPN will role out its largest marketing campaign for its
series pick-up of 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer'. The campaign includes
thousands of billboards, bus ads, and poster size images of Gellar's
eyes with the caption 'Buffy Lives'. Primetime commercials will begin
this week on UPN. (new york daily news)
Sept
4: Buffy/Angel Crossovers:
More than 6400 fans are petitioning for more crossovers of the two
series this season. That's nice, and UPN has already greenlighted the
idea with Whedon. However, the WB is adamant that there will be NO
crossovers with UPN and Buffy for Angel.

4: V sequel DVD: With the
success of the part one DVD mini-series 'V' comes the official
announcement that 'V: the Final Battle' will make its way to DVD

three be the final season of Relic Hunter? It, like first wave, only
had a 66 episode commitment. Hopefully the series will do well enough
this year to get a season four greenlight.
Sept
3: Stargate SG-1: Richard Dean
Anderson was sure season five would be his last, since he is the star
and executive producer, and is tired of doing the series. However the
Sci-Fi Channel must have come up with a nice offer to bring back
Anderson for one more season. The star now assures everyone that this
will be his last season. He is of course willing to step in the
feature film role.
Sept

Sept
2: Farscape: With the rumor
floating that funding among other things will axe the Invisible Man -
the Sci-Fi Channel still has not given the green light to its number
one rated show 'Farscape'. It almost appears that the SFC has way to
many things in work and needs to set some priorities. Mini-series and
telefilms are great, but series make the network. Bonnie Hammer - get
your shit together! Your two top rated series need their funding and
need renewals. Ambit is reporting that Farscape has been renewed
for its fourth season, though no one else has seen anything official
on it.
Sept

Action star and Texas Ranger Chuck Norris, is the proud father of
Twins. Wife Gena, 33, gave birth to the twins on Thursday Aug. 30.

won't be around to see grow up or do things with?

Majors is reporting that while the Farrelly brothers are talking doing
a spoof on the serie, Universal and Miramax are looking into doing a
film based on the series. Majors, who is looking to make a comeback on
his career at 62, believes he could play an Oscar Goldman type role.

it will be the dreaded prequel idea. Either way, it looks like fans of
the films will get a fourth installment.
