28: Blade 3: Blade 1 & 2
scribe David Goyer gave comics2film a great interview. He told the
site that he wants to take Blade 3 twenty years into the future where
the Vampires have taken over the world. He is tired of the standard
vampire fare and wants to shake things up. While plans are formed for
Del Toro to direct the third installment with Goyer writing and Snipes
to star, the project is dependant on the second films success with the
$70M the first film made being the target. (comics2film) Blade 3
is slated to be the last film Goyer writes for someone else. From then
on he wants to write and direct his own stuff.

28: Sony Sucks Too: You will
love this too... Mike Scott, 59, agreed to the terms in exchange for a
cash settlement of $4,500 -- roughly the cost of the 55-inch TV he
bought less than a year ago, When the set started behaving strangely
and Sony refused to cover repairs under its one-year warranty, Scott
was ready to sue. Scott has bought three Sony big-screen TVs in recent
years and had problems with all three. The other two were repaired
under a five-year extended warranty he purchased from the store where
he bought the sets, but the dealer wouldn't sell him the long-term
coverage on the new set. Sony says the sets were damaged by salt air
wafting into Scott's Newport Beach home, which is near the Pacific
Ocean. A repairman told Scott the salt had corroded the inside of the
set, and Sony deemed the damage an "act of God" not covered
by the warranty. "Act of God, because I live next to a beach? God
destroyed my TV?" Scott says. "Lightning, a storm, stuff
like that, that's an act of God. I don't consider air an act of
God." Scott still has the TV, which he says he leaves on 24 hours
a day because it won't come back on if he ever turns it off. Of the
ban from buying Sony's in the future, he says, "They think they
win if they can tell me I can never buy another one of their products.
As if I would." (zap2it.com) Act of God. That's rich.

27: Galactica: In a report on Moviehole.net
indicates Herb Jefferson Jr. (boomer) seems bitter and has very little
care about his series 'Battlestar Galactica'. When ask for his
thoughts about the American Masters of the series being so bad, the
Australian Masters had to be used to create a new boxed set of the
series, he commented, "It doesn't matter to me as long as I get
paid." When asked questions about the new telefilm from Tom Santo
he was very curt and dismissive.

27: Batman 5: Moviehole's
Clint Morris checked in with some Batman news for the site today... Whether it's the Batman Year One project or not, one actor is keen to
pull on the tights - - - and just maybe he might get it. Seems we have our first candidate to play Batman in the next flick.
Antonio Sabato Jr, of TV's "Melrose Place" and "General Hospital", has
thrown his hat in the ring to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the next film.
While speaking to TV's Rove McManus on Tuesday night's show, Sabato jr
mentioned that he wants the role -"If they want me...I'm there" he enthusiastically cried. Co-incidentally Sabato Jr is a huge Batman fan.
"He's a role model" says Sabato Jr, who also named his production company namtab - which is batman spelt backwards.
(Thanks Clint!) Might as well throw my hat in the ring, I
want to be Kingpin... shit that's Daredevil. Ok, I want to be the
Batmobile. Chick's love the car!

27: Firefly Production: the
new western style space series 'Firefly' from Josh Whedon (buffy)
should nearly be done casting his transport ship with the signing of
three more actors. Joining lead actor Nathan Fillion is Adam Baldwin
(X-Files, the Cape) and Jewel Staite (buffy). Just signed on are the
trio of Gina Torres, Ron Glass and Summer Glau. Whedon will write and
direct 'Firefly's' two-hour pilot. Production is scheduled to
begin in March.

26: TNN Stinks: Have you
attempted to view a show on TNN? Currently the network is airing shows
like Baywatch, Star Trek: the Next Generation and Miami Vice. These
morons have a black advertising bar about 2.5 to 3" running
across the bottom of the screen. They post stupid fan comments along
with the name of the series your watching, phone numbers and so on
plus the TNN logo. This is taking advertising to a new low. What could
be worse is other networks following their example. During Miami Vice
I was also treated the most moronic created ads for Star Trek: the
Next Generation. Oh, anyone else having sound problems during a
broadcast. Miami Vice sounds goes up and down for the whole hour,
except for commercials of course. I have also been informed that
Oxygen does this during their broadcast of Xena - Princess
Warrior.

26: Peter Coyote Interview: Moviehole.net has scored again doing an interview with
Peter Coyote about the upcoming ET 21st Anniversary Edition. Here is a
blurb from the interview.... Read the full interview by CLICKING
HERE.
"On the last day of filming, as we wrapped, Steven told me that he was
going to make a sequel when Elliot turned 18. I guess in the intervening years he had time to ponder, "why mess with success?" Also, the "skin"
of ET has deteriorated. We couldn't use it for publicity appearances for
instance, so perhaps that's another reason why they didn't", Coyote
tells.
The actor is insistent though that the March re-release of the original
is worthy. From our interview though it seems nothing is more important
at the moment than the re-release of E.T. "Any movie which has touched
millions and millions of people must have something going for it and ET
does. The performances are wonderful. The story will make you laugh and
(I dare you not to) cry. It's wonderfully conceived and shot, and it's a
touching story carefully told. It has no sex or violence in it and yet
is totally satisfying to four year olds and forty year olds. What's not
to like. It's a great movie!' testifies Coyote. Coyote has also been actively involved in the DVD version of the film, due for release later
in the year.

We have picked up a Terapin unit courtesy of Sam's Club for about $199
plus tax. The Sam's Club in my area only carries the orange version.
(gray unit with the orange topper) Inside the box was one CDR-W and a
nice ten pack of CDR's along with power supply cable and two sets of
connection cables. I will be keeping track of the use of the
Terapin so others interested in the unit can determine if one is for
them. Read the happening at Terapin

is a winning project.

will we be left hanging like most every series does?
Feb
25: Moviehole
Inteviews Sean Astin: Clint Morris over at Moviehole.net
got to chat with Sean Astin about Lord of the Rings 2, and the
upcoming Goonies 2 feature. Here is part of the interview. Check out
the complete interview at Moviehole by clicking HERE.
"The final chapter promises to be the best, because of the awesome
changes that all of the characters experience", explains Astin. There's
a little more work needed on the film until the public will get to witness the further adventures of our heroes. "Peter and Fran have told
me they want to put more heart into 2 Towers and that Sam is the key to
that...so I suppose I will be heading to NZ for more work", adds Astin.
Astin also tells me about the status of The Goonies 2. "Spielberg told
me that he's almost happy with the script that's being developed. I'm sure it will happen at some point. And all of the Goonies are interested
in returning...I just hope they capture the right tone in the script".
One such treatment of the sequel is rumored to involve the offspring of
the original Goonies going on a similar adventure to their 1980's counterparts. "I told Steven that I had an epiphany about the sequel and
wanted to share my thoughts with him. But, he seems protective of the process. My fear is that they will try to have the Goonies "Kids"
involved, which for my money misses the mark", says Sean. Sans Goonies,
Astin tells me there are a couple of movies he wish he could go over; but thinks Goonies is the only film he's interested in following up.
The future's looking even more promising for Sean Astin - and it will be
almost unfeasible to miss him on a Cineplex in the near future. But as
the industry goes, the next job could be just a phone call away or it could be five years down the track. "Although I've got some irons in the
fire, I'm not sure what's next", says a hopeful Sean.

25: Interesting Series Stat:
Last year 87 series were canceled. That's 10 more the year before.
There are 97 series that haven't been renewed yet. This years 37
series have already been axed by the networks. Another 40 or so will
be joining them. There are still 26 new series waiting to debut before
the end of this season and another 204 series in development for next
this coming fall. the Networks are scheduled to announce their fall
schedule in about 10 weeks. (futon

Feb
24: Tarapin VCD Recorders: I
was wondering when a price break would happen on these great little
recording units and apparently it has, as Sam's Club here in Las Vegas
is carrying the units for just $199.oo each. Quite a deal from the
original $4.99 price tag.
Feb
24: The Time Machine: I have
watched the making of... 'the Time Machine' on HBO. The special was
very well done and exposed some exciting looking effects and story
changes that make the updated version very appealing. The film seemed
doomed after the problems reported during the production but perhaps
these problems have been worked out. Based on the previews, and the
HBO special this could be an exciting sleeper for 2002.

23: Wolf Lake & UPN:
Cahners is reporting that UPN is close to sealing a deal that will
bring former CBS drama series 'Wolf Lake' to UPN. Wolf Lake would air
after Enterprise to fill the void left by the cancellation of Special
Unit 2 on Wednesdays at 9pm. UPN will air the first five episodes and
the 4 remaining unaired episodes. I have seen the unaired pilot and
the series should have gone in that direction. It was excellent.
Feb

22: PREY: Last year, Professor Mary Ann Beavis, gave a presentation entitled, 'Prey for Us' Biblical Allusions in a 'Cult' TV Science Fiction Drama" at Luther Seminary, St. Paul. MN. "Prey", as most people know, was a runaway 1998 television series that was badly mistreated by the American ABC network. Despite only 13 episodes, Prey has become a cult phenomenon backed by a world wide campaign to see the production and airing of the newly written sequel movie. A revised edition of the biblical images study is slotted to be published in the first issue of the new online Journal of Religion & Popular Culture. In the meantime, further analysis of the religious/spiritual function/effect of Prey on fans (as opposed to the religious themes in the series) is now under study. Does this show ever cease to amaze and affect people?

director Guillermo Del Toro is eager to helm the 'Hellboy' comics
feature as his next project according to the Sci-Fi Wire. He believes
he must do the comic turned feature to prevent it from being fucked up
in translation from comic to film. Del Toro wants it to be exactly
like the comic book.
Feb
22: Perlman is Hellboy: In the
same interview with Sci-Fi Wire Del Toro mentioned that it's Ron
Perlman or nobody will assume the lead role. He believes Vin Diesel
would be a great alternate and the budget for the film would be
larger, but both Del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola believe Ron
Perlman is the perfect person. Perlman is due up next in Blade 2, and
then appears in a major role in the still in production 'Star Trek:
Nemesis' feature. Perlman biggest role was Vincent on 'Beauty and the
Beast'.

Feb
16: Stargate Fan Revolt: The
Sci-Fi Channel could have picked up a potentially expensive lemon with
the sixth and final season of Stargate SG-1, due to premiere on the
network before season completes its run on Showtime. The death of
character Dr. Daniel Jackson played by Michael Shanks has hit many
fans hard overseas, who have already seen the episode. That is likely
to spread over to the U.S. before the episode premieres here. The
series ratings had fallen off over the past years as the storylines
became more conspiracy theory and geared toward the younger male
audience. Rather than renew the fresh Invisible Man series with
unlimited potential for new episodes - the Sci-Fi Channel has
purchased five seasons of reruns and 22 new episodes of Stargate that
no one may be watching. (salon.com) Bonnie Hammer... you go
girl.
Feb
16: And... Cut to Commercial:
Zap2it.com has an interesting article today concerning commercial
time. In Primetime the big four networks are averaging between 16
minutes & 17 seconds of commercials per one hour series. NBC is
airing the most commercials of the bunch, but... it also tells you how
much is cut from a series by the Sci-Fi Channel, TNT, TBS, and TNN.
Three to four minutes are cut... that's 4 minutes per episode and 88
minutes from a 22 episode season. That's over two episodes worth of
material from one season removed by these networks. Wow!
Feb

hired by Warner Brothers to pen the script. Jon Peters will produce
the fifth installment. Big question is why bother with another
Superman sequel?

15: No More Austin: New Line

Feb
15: Terminator 3 Update: MovieHole.net
has scored a very interesting bit of news concerning Terminator 3
production in Canada. Arnold Swartzenegger is interested in running for the
Governorship of California at some point and wants T3 filmed entirely
in the United States rather than Canada. He has agreed in a reduction
in salary to get the production moved. Arnie doesn't want the
publicity of this production being filmed outside the U.S. (moviehole.net)
This leads one to believe that after True Lies 2 the Swartz could be
slowing down to turn his attention to California politics.
Feb
15: Invisible Man Scores Big:
The canceled series has actually done well in syndication
compared to other series. This, despite its less than stellar
syndication market USA Network sold it to. For the week of January 28th the series
audience was up 18% and scored a 2.0/2.1 in the ratings. Hard to
believe no network has stepped forward to pick up the series, or the
producers taking the series into total syndication. (ron wolfe) Remember,
this rating is a syndicated rating and not its first run rating on the
Sci-Fi Channel.
Feb
15: Enterprise/Smallville:
These two fledgling series continue to excel in the ratings as both
series ratings remain above 6 and both were number 79 in the overall
ratings for the week. While Smallville was already renewed, UPN
has yet to greenlight the series for a second season. UPN has failed
to renew anything beyond this season. Buffy is the only series
scheduled to return, due to its two-year commitment coming over from
the WB this past season.

Feb
14: Angel Headed to UPN???:
Even though ANGEL has managed the same ratings with out the Buffy lead
in to it this season, the series may be doomed thanks to the WB's
'Family and Franchise' theme. If the WB backs away from the series,
UPN has already agreed to pick up the series from its deal last season

slot becomes available to pair the two series up again. (ron wolfe)
Feb

his TV role in the film. Lee Majors may play Steve Austin in the

episodes and it was he that got Universal interested in backing a
feature film. (the scifiwire)

13: Strange World: the Sci-Fi
Wire reports that the shortlived ABC series 'Strange World' (only 3
eps aired) has opened well on the Sci-Fi Channel. The network also
believes the 10 un-aired episodes will do even better when they begin
airing. Remember fans when this series was on ABC the episodes were
about 42 minutes and the SFC will cut them down to 40 minutes for
commercials.
Feb

Birds of Prey. The part of Barbara Gordon went to Dina Meyers, who

Feb
11: Amityville to Return?: Coming
Attractions got two emails indicating that the horror franchise might
be dusted off and a fourth installment put into development. It would
be a sequel to the first film. What else? Why a possible TV series as
well may be going into development. Hmmm.
Feb
11: Predator 3: The small
budget film may be turning big budget as AICN gets a scoop that Dwayne
Johnson, the Rock, might be headlining the project. Sounds unlikely
and might not be true. The price for the Rock might be in the $250,000
range. Remember, this one is just a rumor right now and likely not
true.
Feb
11: Firefly: The new SF
series, Firefly, from Buffy creator Josh Whedon has picked up Nathan

transport ship. (hollywood reporter)
Feb
11: Sgt. Rock: Joel Silver

film 'Tomb Raider'.
Feb
10: Dark Angel: The series
'Dark Angel' has performed dismally in the ratings this season. And
right now, things don't look better for the series at the end of
season 2. Darkangeltv.com looks to be going under and fans should not
expect the series 'Dark Angel' to return next season. Ratings for the
action drama have been down at least two points all season from last
year. Fox cannot afford the budget of maintaining a series with
ratings well below 6.5.
Feb
10: Charlie's Angels 2: Adding
Jamie Foxx to play Bosley Jr. could be a bad a decision as when Bill
Murray played him in the first film. Why not serious up the role a bit
and have someone like Dan Akroyd or Michael Keaton play the role?
Feb
10: Rollerball?: Stay at home
and watch the original on DVD.
Feb
10: Collateral Number One:
Arnolds new feature, 'Collateral Damage' opened up in the number spot

really big battles.
Feb

and Predator 3.
Feb
10: Alias: Roger Moore, James
Bond & the Saint, will play the British director of SD-6 - the
shows worldwide spy organization. Moore is only scheduled to appear in
the upcoming March 10th episode, but there is a chance that Moore
could return for... more. :) (zap2it.com)
Feb
10: UPN beats Fox: Overall
Thursday night ratings had UPN coming in fourth ahead of Fox & the
WB. UPN scored a 5.3/8 share compared to Fox at 4.0/6 and the web at
3.3/5. UPN was also hot on the heels of ABC at third place which
carried a 5.9/8 share for the night. (mediaweek.com)
Feb
10: The Agency in trouble?: If
you follow UPN's deal with Special Unit 2, then CBS' the Agency might
be in trouble too. Special Unit 2's looses 47% of its audience from
its Enterprise lead in (it got canceled), and the Agency is loosing
51% of its lead in from the hit series C.S.I. The Agency is number 2
in the 10pm Thursday night slot, but it could still get the axe at the
end of the season.
Feb
10: LEXX Joins Scifi2k.com: A

Henriksen's small role in the original Terminator film? He recently
told the Arnold Fan website that his Terminator character, Detective
Vukovich might return in T3 confined to a wheelchair since he didn't
die onscreen in the original.
Feb
9: Enterprise: Despite the
series having such a dull appearance it continues to excel this season
again with a new episode hitting a 5.8./9 share.
Feb
9: Special Beats Glory:
Special Unit 2 might be on its way out permanently, but it kicked the
crap out of the WB's Glory Days by 23% - a 2.4/7 share vs Days 2.2/3
share. But because its lead in 'Enterprise' is 47% higher it make SU2
a loser in the ratings.
Feb
9: UPN/WB Close in on Fox:
With Fox being a one of the major players of the big four, UPN is hot
on their ass this season sitting only 1.9/3 shares behind them.
Getting established on the 'DISH' is going to put the WB & UPN
right with Fox and ABC. The increase in viewership means more
advertising dollars and better quality series for both networks.
Feb
9: Deepspace Nine: The VCD
backside has been added to the site for Deepspace Nine. A CDR label is

Feb
8: Invisible Man the Only Positive This Year:
Ratings are down this season in the genre department compared to last
season. In the 18 to 49 range the SFC's 'Invisible Man' showed a 9%
increase in viewership. All other ratings for all genre series were
down. Here is the Listing. The oddity being that the Invisible Man was
included in the series which got its walking papers.
Feb
8: James Gunn Interview: Got
an email from moviehole.net's
Clint Howard - who got an interview with Scooby Doo scribe James Gunn. Here's the Interview...
"I
loved Scooby growing up. He's
the inner goof and coward in all of us", Gunn says.
I was also enchanted by the ability to bring these cartoon
characters into the real world, and do it in a way that's different
than how it's been done before in films like The Flintstones,
Inspector Gadget, etc. Not
that there's anything wrong with that style of filmmaking, just that
we wanted to do something more unique. It (the film) differs from the
cartoons in a million different ways.
We also get a chance to see what we don't see in cartoons --
the little fights and dramas Mystery Inc has in-between solving
mysteries. There's
romance, jealousy, bickering, and love.
And there are also real supernatural forces at work -- this
time there's no Old Man Smithers in a mask, but real monsters to
contend with."
"At
the beginning of the film Mystery Inc is getting fed up with the
mundane aspects of their experiences -- their mysteries are pretty
much the same over and over: Daphne gets captured, Velma and Fred
have a plan, Shaggy and Scooby muck everything up, and, at the end,
the 'supernatural phenomena' they've been fighting ends up being a
man in a mask. After the millionth time it gets pretty boring,
and the gang starts to get on each other's nerves. So they
break up. But, soon enough, they're called back together to
solve a mystery. They go to Spooky Island, an amusement park
on a tropical island, where mysterious things are happening.
And this time, they have to face real demons -- and, in the end,
save the world!. The movie's not done yet -- but I've seen it
many times, and it keeps getting better and better. It's a lot
of fun, and the cast (including the CGI Scooby) is great.
We're already talking about the sequel, yes... "
Gunn,
who also confirmed that Spy vs Spy isn't
nearing any closer to production, did drop hints about his next two
movies, notably "The Newlyweds".
" It's a romantic comedy I'm doing for Warner Bros; tonally,
it's an update of the old Preston Sturges screwball comedies from
the '40's. It's about a young socialite who gets drunk and
gets married to a con man two days before she's supposed to marry a
surgeon, and how she and the con man fall in love on the way to
getting a divorce. The movie also features basketball playing
midgets and a pissed off pet ferret. It's a film about how sometimes
the things in life that seem to be wrong end up being right, and
vice versa.", Gunn says. Ánd the chances of his renowned book The
Toy Collector coming to the big screen are high too.
" Somewhat likely I’ve had a lot of offers, but I don't feel
like jumping into something that I spent so long on right now.
I can't decide whether I'd want to write it, direct it, or what.
I have a lot of tenderness for the project, and there's a lot of
personal truth there for me, so I'm not going to jump into a film
project without thinking. We'll see. I think it would
make a great movie, though." Thanks Clint!

8: The Chronicle Gets Dispatched: Writers
don't know squat! Just as I told fans several weeks ago, the Sci-Fi
Channel has announced the official cancellation of a fan favorite 'the
Chronicles'. The last episode, 'Snitch In Time' will air March 22nd.
Sci-Fi guru Bonnie Hammer says it was a good show that just didn't
find its audience. Yunno what Bonnie, Friday nights is a crappy night
for a series. It should have aired on Sunday nights or during the week.

stone... almost. David Goyer will return to write the third

Feb
8: Future Fans F@%Ked: Dark
Horizons has some horrible news that the Special Edition DVD release
of the Back to the Future is once again on hold until some time next
year rather than hitting stores this year. The July release date
doesn't leave enough time for the marketing plan to be
implemented.
Feb
8: Invisible Crashes SFC Server:
Caroline Hey, of the Save I-Man Campaign, reports that as the closing credits to The Invisible Man finale rolled, a
massive influx of fans trying to attend an online chat with the show's stars,
Vincent Ventresca and Paul Ben-Victor, crashed SciFi.com's server, effectively canceling the event, which was to have been held at 9 p.m. ET on
2/1/02. A few hours later, approximately 150 fans still online were treated
to an impromptu chat with four of the show's stars, courtesy of the I-Maniacs, the unofficial fan club for
Sci-Fi's original series.
Feb
8: Nemesis Cameos: Wil

Feb
8: T3 & Chyna: Cinecon.com
is dropping some news that Arnold spoke with Chyna after bumping into
her on the street and suggested that she interview for the role of the
female terminator. Should we see a petite small female in the role or
someone who looks like a female terminator? The choice... is not ours.

twist, Oracle is crippled due to an ill-fated encounter with the Joker

6: Starhunter: The Michael
Pare series seems finally headed to the syndie stations this fall. The
syndicated action-hour business, a one-time thriving market that has
fallen on hard times, is about to get a boost with Western
International Syndication's new pact to put "Starhunter" on
the air this fall. The domestic distributor has signed with Alliance
Atlantis to distribute the upcoming weekly sci-fi series this fall on
a barter basis with a 7/7 split. The series follows Michael Pare
(Philadelphia Experiment & Eddie and the Cruisers") as bounty

If the series were to be successful there is little chance of getting
the cast back together.
Feb
6: Charlie's Angels 2: Crispin

Feb
4: Charlies Angels 2: From bad
acting to stupid decision. With the great news of Bill Murray not
returning as Bosley, comes word now that Jamie Foxx will play Bosely
Jr. When in the hell did John Bosley's character become comic relief?
He was the serious part of the Angels group. (Jamie Foxx
was performing here in Vegas and did an interview with the Las Vegas

Come Out, come out where ever you are! A... reverend (his name isn't
worth mentioning) lead a protest in New York against the feature
film 'Collateral Damage' starring Arnold Swartzenegger. This... person
also claimed that the film made firefighters look bad. Give me a
break. This is just another case of someone going after their 15
minutes of fame. Protesting a film only makes it more popular and
makes people want to see it.
