31: Invisible Man: CHAT! Got
an email from Shari Hill, who is part of the 'Save I-Man Campaign'. This Friday (Feb. 1) will be the series finale of "The Invisible Man"
on the SciFi Channel. In a show of support for the cast and crew, all I-Man fans who attend the
chat is being asked to tack "SaveI-Man" to the front of their usual nicknames.
For the final new episode of the Invisible Man, scifi.com will host a
chat with stars Vincent Ventresca (Darien Fawkes) and Paul Ben-Victor
(Bobby Hobbes) @ 9pm Tomorrow. Also... a new VHS
Cover Sheet for the series has replaced the old cover sheet.
Jan
31: Alien vs Predator: This is
a film idea about eight years old and has never come to fruition. Well
there is a script, believe it or not. However. Word comes that the
script from James DeMonaco & Kevin Fox was horrible and new
writers will be brought it. Movieheadlines.net reports that if Alien 5
happens this one will be pushed back even further. Let's face it, this
one is likely never to happen regardless of Alien 5. 20th Century Fox
has never been hot for this idea.
Jan
31: Xena & Invisible Man: The shows
may be gone,
but far from forgotten by their fans. I have completed new VHS Cover
Sheets for Xena and Invisible Man tonight to replace the previous very basic looking
covers. There are over
120 VHS TV Series Cover Sheets on
site now for download, with more on the way.
Jan
31: Killer D-VHS System: I
don't mean this as a great system to purchase. Brian Pesti shot an
article in USA Today over the comp today. Here is some of that
article... Universal, 20th Century Fox, DreamWorks and Artisan
Entertainment plan as early as summer to release movies on a new
generation of VHS videos — high-definition and digitally
recorded. So-called D-VHS tapes promise to look twice as good as DVD
on new high-definition TVs — though they're not compatible with
today's VCRs. To play them, you'll need a new machine such as JVC's
current D-VHS model (for about $1,500), the only VCR so far that's
"D-Theater" compatible. OK, here is the really bad news for
videophiles... The D-Theater system blocks copying of tapes as
well as Napster-like sharing of their digital signal via the Net, an
acute fear of Hollywood recently and one reason so few movies have
been digitally broadcast to date. Oh, blank tapes cost about $20 each.
Movies in this format will cost $30 to $40. Hey, what a great deal!
NOT! CLICK
HERE to visit USA Today and read the entire article.
Jan
31: Jason X: New Line Cinema
will let Jason slash his way onto the big screen come April 26th
against four other small budget films. READ
the Jason X review and see some images from the film. It is the best
Jason film in the Franchise.
Jan
31: UPN Cuts Jobs: UPN will
cut about 20% of its staff as they continue to consolidate with 'CBS'
network operations.
Jan
31: Goonies 2: AICN has scored
a tidbit of news to make Goonie fans happy. Steven Spielberg informed
a film group at USC, that Goonies 2 is indeed in work. So much so that
the film is already in pre-production. The entire original cast will
be back dabbling in adventure with their kids.
Jan
30: Lost World: For the final
four episodes this season, Jennifer O'Dell's character's long presumed
dead parents will return. O'Dell told the sci-fi wire, she understands
that fans enjoy the dinosaurs, but they come back for the characters
and the character driven stories. Lost World is finishing up its third
season and has already been given the thumbs up for number four.
Jan
30: Time Tunnel: The new
telefilm pilot for Fox will is of course based on the Irwin Allen
series, but will follow a group that travel back and forth through
time rather than just the two men, who get lost and drift through
time. The pilot is written by Rand Ravich and Emmy winner Todd Holland
will direct. There has been no word on casting the roles just yet. Fox
is hopeful the project will develop into a new series as the
replacement for the departing X-Files.
Jan
30: Caesar: TNT is spending a
mere $23M of its four-hour Caesar mini-series. (Dune on the Sci-Fi
Channel was done for $20M) Starring in the new series will be Jeremy
Sisto (six feet under), Christopher Walken, Richard Harris, Velaria
Golino, and Chris North (sex in the City). The series is to be
directed by Uli Edel and slated to air sometime in 2003. Production of
the mini-series begins in February. (zap2it)
Jan
30: the King to Retire:
Stephen King has told the L.A. Times that he is planning to retire
from writing in the near future. King is planning to publish five more
books and work on a mini-series for ABC before calling it quits.
Jan
30: True Lies 2: Arnold told
columnist Cindy Pearlman that a good script has been turned in for
James Cameron's 'True Lies 2', but needs some rewrites. Arnold
however, only wants to do one big budget film a year and Terminator 3
is this years picture. So True Lies 2 would shoot next year (2003).
Yeah, at $30M for T3 there is no need to do two films in one year -
just think of the taxes. Whew!
Jan
30: Cancelled Series: Check
out the 'Channel News' for the
latest series to bite the dust and those renewed for 2002.
Jan
30: Predator 3: Fans at the
comingattractions message boards are posting their wants for the third
film, and that is wanting Arnold Swartenegger and Danny Glover to team
up in 'Predator 3'. That would cost more than the budget for the film.
Jan
30: Scifi2k.com to condense:
Some areas of the site will be... disappearing as it is just
impossible for one person, me, to keep all the areas updated
regularly. Over the next week or so.. the game zone, fan opinion,
movie dates, movies in work, and movie news (possibly the virtual
library as well) will be doing the vanishing act. Thank you.
Jan
30: Robocop 4: Paul Verhoeven
is interested in a fourth film, and Peter Weller is ready to reprise
the role as Robocop. Ed Neumeier is even ready to write the script.
Unfortunately it comes down to whether Fireworks, who own the rights,
is ready, willing and financially able to do it. Fireworks has already
spent $15M on the franchise when they did the four telefilm
mini-series 'Robocop: Prime Directives' - which did air on the Sci-Fi
Channel in the U.S. It has yet to make its way to DVD.
Jan
29: B5 Rangers Ratings Not So Good?:
JMS talks about the Ratings...
We heard what we initially
thought were disappointing figures, that we'd done a 1.7 when SFC was
hoping for a 2.6 or better. It kind of puzzled everybody because the
B5 audience is generally pretty reliable. It became even *more*
puzzling when the more detailed figures came in, showing that by
quarter-hours, the show *gained viewers* and did not lose them.
Meaning folks who came on the show by accident, stayed to watch. It
should have been much higher than it was. Then the final
market-by-marked figures came in from the studio, and we had our
mystery resolved. The east coast ratings got hammered by the football
game, which was the highest rated such game in something like 5 years.
The B5 male demos are pretty much the same as for sports, and we lost
heavily to football. So there we did not do well. By contrast, on the
west coast, where the show aired *after* the game had finished, we not
only met but *exceeded* SFC's expectations, getting a 3.2 or 3.6 in
many markets, which is actually pretty unheard of for a basic cable
network. The problem is that the average, 1.7, is still what's used for
advertising. So we have to see if SFC will look past the show getting
hammered by a big football event on the East Coast to look at the West
Coast figures and see that there is, indeed, a market. (ron wolfe)
Jan
29: Derailed: The big action
flick starring Jean Claude Van-Damme and Laura Elena Harring in
'Derailed' will now be sent directly to video by Nu Image once
production wraps. Van Damme's previous direct to video feature 'Replicant'
was well received. Van Damme may have found his niche in the industry
as a 'B' movie star such as 'Bruce Campbell', 'Mark Dacascos', and 20
year 'B' star Eric Roberts.
Jan
29: Strange World: Fans who
enjoyed the three episodes that aired on ABC for Strange World, get a
treat on Feb. 8th @ 8pm when the Sci-Fi Channel begins airing the
shortlived series. The treat is the remaining 10 episodes that never
aired on the network.
Jan
29: Matt Helm: Dreamworks has
optioned 27 novels by Donald Hamilton about spy icon 'Matt Helm'. The
first feature in the proposed franchise will be helmed by 'Legally
Blonde' director Robert Luketic. The new films will not be in the vein
of the previous Helm features in the 60's starring Dean Martin. (moviehole.net)
Jan
29: Roswell: It is very
apparent that Roswell is done at the end of this season. As for this
season and its ordered 20 episodes, several separate (and reliable)
sources are reporting that
UPN has cut the order down to 18 eps from 20. It doesn't really matter
since no one is watching.
Jan
29: Rollerball: Just a
reminder that the severely cut and re-edited remake of 'Rollerball'
will debut at theatres on Feb. 8th. The picture was cut down to the
ninety minute mark, to get the picture from an R rating to PG-13. It
has flop written all over it.
Jan
28: Terminator 3: Shooting on
the third film begins April 15th. Apparently Linda Hamilton will
return in the third film, but only to do flashback scenes.
Jan
28: Garner Official: IGN
Filmforce has announced the official signing of Golden Globe winner
Jennifer Garner to play Elektra and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin.
Garner is the star undercover agent on the series 'Alias'.
Jan
28: Sheena: As mentioned here
only last week Sony releases official word that the Gina Lee Nolan
series 'Sheena' is canceled, due to lackluster ratings and very little
interest in season 3. You heard it hear first.
Jan
28: Conan In Work: The 168
King Conan script is being cut down to 120 pages by writer/director
John Milius. The Wachowski brothers have told Milius his present
script would take to long to do and be three and a half hours.
Jan
27: C.S.I on top: With all the
series flopping around the ratings C.S.I. continues to score in them.
The double airing of episodes finished the series #2 & 3
behind an episode of Friends.
Jan
27: Invisible Finale: The SFC
original series 'the Invisible Man' will air its series finale Friday,
February 1.
Jan
27: Enterprise: News has come
down from Trektoday.com that the cost cutting merger at UPN/CBS (viacom)
could indeed affect the Enterprise network staff. *Any chance Rick Berman could be replaced? :)
Jan
27: Actors Bickering: Now we
have two actors reaching beyond the Hollywood sign into the media
about Terrorists. First James Wood with his slaying of heads comments
and now Arnold Swartzenegger's comments about that. These people are
actors - actors whose careers are on the way down side. Maybe, just
maybe they should worry about that instead of thinking we might care
what they think about terrorism. Unless their going to take up a gun
and join the real men and woman of this country defend it it against
terrorism, keep your ass out of the media about it. Who wants to hear
a bunch of Hollywood millionaires talk about terrorism? Arnold is the
only person I know who has a U.S. Citizenship and still has his
Austria citizenship. What is up with that?!!!
Jan
26: Babylon 5 DVD: Warner
Brothers is making fans of Babylon 5 extremely happy with news that a
season one boxed set of Babylon 5 this spring. There isn't word yet,
but they'll likely be in letterbox format. Wooo Hooo. Another
important question - HOW MUCH? Seasonal boxed sets are still over
priced.
Jan
26: So Much For Indiana Jones 4: Variety
is reporting that Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are hot to do
another movie together, titled Ghost Soldiers. A non-fiction account
of the Bataan Death March. There is already a draft in hand. What this
means for Indy? Another delay of course. So much for the sunshine up
the ass comments at the Globes by Spielberg and Ford.
Jan
26: Charlie's Angels 2: McG
will helm the sequel and he is working on the project already. Our
three beauties, Diaz, Lui, and Barrymore will return to their roles.
The best news comes that comedy actor 'Bill Murray' will NOT be
returning as Bosley in the sequel. Apparently Cameron Diaz's $20M
salary has pushed Bill Murray from the film. He was horrible in the
role of John Bosley and Murray is pretty much the same character in
everything he does.
Jan
26: Fox & ABC Fight for Time Tunnel:
ABC and Fox are battling it out for the rights to 'the Time Tunnel'.
ABC has optioned the book 'The Time Tunnel' by William Jenkins, and
FOX says theirs is based on the story by Irwin Allen. Fox needs this
project more than ABC as the network has fallen off in the ratings and
needs a new quality series to replace the X-Files.
Jan
25: Hulk Due For Region 2: Two
of the Incredible Hulk TV Telefilms will be making their way to DVD in
March 11th of this year. The DVD will contain 'The Incredible Hulk
Returns' from 1988 (which includes the character of Thor) and 'Trial
of the Incredible Hulk' (which includes Rex Smith as Daredevil and
John Rhys-Davies as the Kingpin). Naturally there will not be a
release in the U.S. anytime soon, if at all. Crap!
Jan
25: Jason X Images: March is
the release date of the tenth installment in the Jason Franchise... I've
seen the movie and now I have attached some images to the review.
Hopefully more images from the film will be coming soon. JASON
X Review
Jan
25: Rocky 6: MGM has told
Sylvester Stallone there will be no money for a Rocky 6 film until
Stallone proves himself once again with a hit movie. (dark
horizons) Looks like there won't be a Rocky film in that case.
At his age, like Arnold, young fans aren't going to give the actor a
chance.
Jan
25: ABC Genre: the ABC network
has greenlit two genre pilot films. One is 'That Was Then'. An hour
long drama about a 30-year-old man who longs to go back in time to
relive a week in high school. The other is still an as yet untitled
hour long drama about a family that fights for justice using martial
arts skills. (ron wolfe)
Jan
25: Futurama: The only real
female action star... Sigourney Weaver will make a guest voice
appearance on 'Futurama' in the Valentine episode, as the voice of the
new Planet Express Spaceship. Also voicing in the episode will be
Charlie's Angel's 'Lucy Lui'.
Jan
25: Enterprise: Even though we
never heard or saw the Ferengi in the original series, they will be
making their first appearance on Enterprise in the upcoming episode
'Acquisition'. To fit into the continuity of the show the crew will
not know the identity of the intruders. (trektoday)
Jan
25: Quantum Leap:
With the success of Scott Bakula in Enterprise, Universal is mulling
the possibility of bringing him back to star in a 'Quantum Leap'
reunion two-hour telefilm - most likely for NBC. (syfyportal) We
reported two months ago that producer Donald P. Bellasario has been
working on a re-union move but Universal had never shown an
interest... until now.
Jan
25: Bad Boys 2: WENN is
reporting that Bad Boys 2 is on the way. Both Will Smith and Martin
Lawrence are preparing to work on the film even though the film will
has no script. Jerry Bruckheimer has met with both stars and discussed
several ideas. It is now a matter of getting it down on paper. The
action will take place in Miami.
Jan
25: Exorcist Prequel:
Production begins next Summer and will star Liam Neeson, Billy
Crawford, and Ryan Phillippe.
Jan
25: Episode II Trailer:
TheForce.net is reporting that the full trailer for Episode II will be
attached to the CG animated comedy, 'Ice Age'.
Jan
25: Sci-Fi London Film Festival:
The second annual 'Sci-Fi London' film festival begins February 2nd.
Here is a blurp from an email I received today... "We have a
packed programme of classic, rare and new features films including THX
1138, Soylent Green, Stalker and Tron. We also have the World Premiere
of Ken Russell's new feature "The Fall of the Louse of
Usher" and the European Premiere of Mark Pellington's "The
Mothman Prophecies". The film festival will be loaded with other
great stuff to see and witness. You can check out their site at Sci-Fi-London.com.
Jan
24: UPN Trouble: Genre series
and the male market (UPN's Bread & Butter this year) could be in
deep trouble on UPN with the hiring of Dawn Tarnofsky - Ornoff as
UPN's Entertainment President. She brought us the crappy great shows
like 'Any Day Now', 'Strong Medicine', and 'the Division'. Just what
we need... a mini CBS.
Jan
24: Roswell Goes on HIATUS:
UPN has put the already doomed Roswell on Hiatus (nasty word) for
March, when it would have been on in repeats, to air two new series,
ala the WB and Felicity. Neither show however is a genre series.
Jan
24: Mutant X now Official: As
announced a few days ago here, Mutant X has been picked up officially
for another season making the Tribune Broadcasting Group very happy. (hollywood
reporter)
Jan
24: Prey Campaign Continues:
Got an email letting me know how the campaign effort is going getting
the SFC know that fans want the PREY film from William Schmidt's
script. Here's the email... "The Sci-Fi Channel has been deluged with hundreds of postcards and almost 2,000 emails in the last three months in hopes that the cabler will produce William Schmidt's television movie script entitled "Tom's Story". The script is a follow up movie to the highly popular 1998 series, PREY, and although it may solve the series' cliffhanger ending it may not necessarily wrap up the story in one neat package.
Fans of Prey feel that the Sci-Fi Channel would be the best bet in producing
Tom's Story" since the channel is already familiar with the Prey audience,
as well as Vincent Ventresca and Adam Storke, two of the original three
leads." (thanks Joan)
Jan
24: VHS Sheet Area Updated:
The VHS Cover Sheet area has been broken down in an effort to help out
the slower internet connections in the 28.8 & 56K range. I hope it
is better for everyone.
Jan
24: Pfeiffer Wanted Catwoman Role:
Actress Michelle Pfeiffer wanted to return in the role of Catwoman in
a feature film.
She was actually looking forward to it, until she found out that
'Tim Burton' would not be involved. the once feline whip master had no desire to
return to the role. (countingdown.com)
Jan
24: Enterprise: Wednesday
nights episode of Enterprise on UPN was an outstanding storyline and
character driven episode. This is the kind of story we were promised
before the series premiered. Excellent!
Jan
24: Blade 2 Rating: the new
Blade film will be an R rated feature due to "strong pervasive
violence, language, some drug use and sexual content." Now this
is what an action genre flick is all about! Woooo Hoooo. (official
blade site)
Jan
23: The Chronicle: One of the
writer/producers of the series wrote a comment in the scifi.com bbs
for the series concerning the comments here that the show was
cancelled. He wanted everyone to know that the show is not canceled,
but on hiatus. The Sci-Fi Channel ordered the back issues to decide if
the series was to be renewed. And that under the contract, the SFC
doesn't have to make a decision to cancel or renew the series yet.
Well, the ratings for the series are less than LEXX and the Invisible
Man which were both canceled by the SFC infinite wisdom. Just because
the SFC doesn't have to cancel or renew the series yet, doesn't mean
the decision hasn't already been made. It's a neat series, but so was
Special Unit 2 with decent ratings... and it's gone too.
Jan
23: Angel/Buffy Crossover:
Joss Whedon will attempt to have a crossover next season with Angel
and Buffy, even though both series are on different networks. He says
most of it, depends on how things have cooled off between the WB and
UPN. (cinescape)
Jan
23: Goldmember: Seth Green
told Cinescape online that he will be returning in the Austin Powers
sequel as Dr. Evil's son, Scott.
Jan
23: Birds of Prey on WB: Looks
like the WB will air its 'Birds of Prey' series this coming fall. the
news series is based on the comic book of the same name. It tells the
story of three women who dish out justice on the street and worldwide
level.
Jan
23: Special Unit 2: The script
for 'The Fly', which would have been episode 14 this season, has been
posted at a fan site. You can CLICK
HERE to be transported to there in a new browser. If you are
interested in signing a petition to save the series you can CLICK
HERE for the that site. It was about ratings though. SU2
average 3.7 following Enterprise. UPN was unhappy that ratings for SU2
fell off more than 45% from that of Enterprise.
Jan
23: VHS Covers to be Revamped:
In the coming days the VHS Cover Sheet area will be redone to break up
the number of covers appearing on the main page. With a 28.8 to 56K
modem the page tends to stop downloading and you have to hit refresh
to continue the download. This is being done for you guys. Easier for
viewers.
Jan
23: Bulletproof Monk: Filming

Roche, and Leslie Silva. There will be a two-hour pilot and 18
episodes in the first season. The stories will follow a space shuttle
crew who witness a catastrophic even on Earth. Using an alien device
they are able to return to Earth and their families five years before

the series they will try to determine the mysterious force that will
destroy the earth and try to stop it. They are also given the chance
to change their own lives. (dark horizons)

Foxnews.com that Indiana Jones is their priority. They even have a
title and no, they aren't ready to announce it. Spielberg did announce
that his wife 'Kate Capshaw', who played in the second film, will be
in the fourth film. (moviehole.net)
Jan
22: More Alien 5: Black Hawk
Down director Ridley Scott (alien, gladiator, bladerunner, etc) is
talking again about Alien 5 again. "I'm seriously mulling 'Alien
5' over," Scott told Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cindy
Pearlman. "I think it would be a lot of fun, but the most
important thing is to get the story right. Earth would be interesting,
and there is talk about it," he explained. "I say we should
go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how
they were created. No one has ever explained why. I always figured
that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be
weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last
long. There's like four or five subjects spinning, which means they're
being written which are all important to me, so sooner or later at
some point they'll get made." (zap2it.com)
Jan
22: Great Superbowl Show:
Commercials for the Superbowl will see previews for 'Men In Black 2',
'Spiderman', 'Collateral Damage' and 'Scorpion King'.
Jan
22: Mission Impossible 3: It
could be fast tracked depending on a number of things with Tom Cruise.
The earliest we could hope to see the third film is August 2003, or
Spring of 2004. Cruise wants the third film more James Bond like with
more gadgets like the first Impossible film. He also wants more action
than any Bond film has ever had. (movieheadlines.net)
Jan
22: Predator 3: The third
installment of the Predator series is a go. The story will follow a
group of marines (ala Aliens) who are going to a planet where
Predators are staging an invasion of earth. (coming attractions from
darkhorizons.com)
Jan
21: Legend of the Rangers: Catch
the telefilm broadcast for B5: Legend of the Rangers Saturday or
Sunday? I enjoyed the movie. Thought the alien spaceships were a bit
on the cheesy side,
but the acting more than made up for that. I had no problems with the
script as so many others seem to. Overall I thought the telefilm very
good and
enjoyed the overall experience of the film, and well as the glimpse of
Babylon 5 at the
end. I did miss not see Lanier, who is a Ranger, or Marcus
who died in one of the telefilms. Will the telefilm evolve into a new
series. Doubtful knowing the Sci-Fi Channel as it is. If it should...
the SFC will cancel it within two seasons likely based on the budget
alone. JMS would do better to take the project syndicated. IF, if the
SFC should make it into a weekly series they inherit a huge fan base
from the original series. A series of TV Telefilms would be an excellent way to
go. The turn-out was so good that the B5LR.com
website went down Saturday from excessive traffic. It is back up.
Jan
21: Nemesis: Paramount has set
a tentative release date November 22nd, This puts the film out for

expected with being the number 2 syndicated series for most of the
season, Mutant X will return next year for 22 more episodes.
Jan
20: Tracker Doomed: The new
series Tracker will likely join the gone list as well. The fledgling
series has the lowest ratings of the syndicated series thanks to the
worst time slots available.
Jan
20: Charmed Dumps Again: Spelling & Charmed Productions will once again crap on
another actor in the series. This time its actor Julian McMahon, who
plays Cole Turner. Nothing new for Spelling, and yes there is a
writing campaign. Interested? Visit mcmahoniacs.com
and join the campaign today.
I wonder if this is some
Alyssa Milano flashback. Isn't McMahon dating Shannon Doherty?
Jan
20: Dark Angel: Another series
in serious trouble this season is Fox's 'Dark Angel'. Ratings for the
second season have fallen off 35% from last year after moving to
Friday nights. (ron wolfe)
Jan
19: Duchovny Returns: It looks
like David Duchovny will be returning for the two-hour finale in May.
Why? To prepare fans for the now defunct series heading back to the big
screen. According to the report, many of the... loose ends will be
tied up.
Jan
19: NBC steers clear of Space:
NBC has placed orders for six new drama pilots and an additional three

much less the nine, there isn't any room for a genre based series on
NBC in the fall.

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Gellar has mentioned movie on, beyond Buffy.
Jan
19: Daredevil: Jennifer Garner
isn't signed just yet, but the deal is close to being completed. As
for the 'Kingpin', well Michael Clarke Duncan (green mile) looks
likely for the part. (ign filmforce)

18: Buffy Re-edit: Sky One has
proven itself to be... STUPID with its re-editing of Buffy. Fans of
BUFFY in the United Kingdom are pissed off with Sky One for cutting
parts of Buffy that are crucial to the characters' development and
overall story arc for the season. (zap2it) Hey, if you gotta cut
it, then don't show it. Network Television should learn this big time.
Jan
18: Glory Days... Eh: The new

The Lost World ratings have dipped over the last few weeks dropping
below the 2.0 ratings to a low 1.7 for the week of 12/10/01. The

be an interesting off season to see what shows are picked up for
another season. Shows already on the bubble include Tracker, Lost
World, Sheena, Beastmaster, and Relic Hunter.
Jan

This time Ridley Scott told LatinoReview that one of his upcoming
movies may be the fifth chapter in the Alien franchise. "I will

decided yet. It's in the works." (dark horizons)

forward on its TRON sequel now that the Tron DVD has been released.
The new film will move forward with or without Jeff Bridges on
board.
Jan
16: Lord of Money: While I
might not think 'Lord of the Rings' is one of the best films I have
seen, others worldwide believe it is. Lord of the Rings is King of the
Dollar as the film has broken the $500M mark putting the film in the
top 19 all-time money makers. And just think... you only have to wait
till next Christmas to see the sequel. That - is my biggest gripe.
Still the film is about $300M behind Harry Potter.
Jan

Jan
15: UPN Blasts pecial Unit 2: In
a totally expected, but standard UPN move - has pulled the plug on the
wonderful series 'Special Unit 2' and stopped production on the back
nine episodes. There may be efforts to save the show, but for now the shops
are shut down. It appears the shows audience growth was not fast
enough for the network. SU2 is first casualty of the merger of UPN
with CBS. President of UPN, Dean Valentine has been fired.

series again this week to show back to back Buffy episodes. On the
other side of the street is the Sci-Fi Wire, which is reporting that
UPN has picked up the struggling series for seven more episodes this
season, for a full years compliment. As for season four happening... I
won't place a bet on it. Right now, UPN has nothing ready to fill in,
if they did cancel the show.

Jan
14: Crow Return Unlikely:
Edward Pressman has pretty much abandoned the idea of bringing back
the the series 'the Crow: Stairway to Heaven'. He hasn't contact the
cast in a long time or the fans about it for that matter. Mark
Dacascos, who played the lead in the series, 'Eric Draven' told the
Sci-Fi Wire that there is a 99% chance that he would not return to the
series now if it came back. Dacascos had heard at one time of a
telefilm to tie up loose ends but he hasn't heard anything or talked
to Pressman in a long time.
Jan
14: Brotherhood of the Wolf:
Mark Dacascos also spoke with the Sci-Fi Wire during his interview
that he co-stars in the upcoming 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'. Says Mark,
" Many of the fight scenes were abbreviated for the movie. Even
the opening fight scene is only one-third of what was filmed. (look
for that on DVD). Dacascos plays an Iroquois warrior companion
of an 18th century scientist investigating a series of hideous murders
in rural Frances. Wolf opens everywhere in the United States on
January 18th.

role.

frontrunner.
Jan

of Sliders & Anaconda is appearing in the two upcoming films 'The

when it comes out. (kariwuhrer.com)
Jan
14: Sabertooth Signed: We just
don't know how long the X-Men franchise will run, but Tyler Mane, who

and appendages in the film. Hey stop messing with my DNA. (moviehole.net)

Jan

movie based on the old series that will update the concept while
referencing the past. They are looking at some very interesting ways
to incorporate references to the original series to satisfy fans of
that show. (were there any?). (ron wolfe)
Jan
10: Tick Licked: Sources for
AICN have reported that Fox has axed, canceled, cut, and deleted 'The
Tick'. January 24th will see the final episode air on the network,
which is having severe ratings trouble. The Tick, X-Files, and 24
doing poorly.
Jan
10: Invisible Star Unsure as Well:
Vincent Vintresca, star of the Invisible Man, told KISS96 radio in an
interview not to long ago that, "... as heartbroken as we were,
as cast members and as fans, there were a lot of guys in suits- and
women in suits- who feel the same way. So it's not just 'us' versus
'them', they were as frustrated as we are... I think the fan base is
being heard, but I think it's something that isn't going to happen
anytime soon."
Jan
10: Angel Trouble?: the WB will be
testing the strength of its last remaining Vampire series 'Angel' by
airing repeats of last season at 8pm on Thursdays beginning January
10th. If people tune in to the repeats Angel will likely make a
permanent move to that time slot. Is Angel in trouble again? If so...
the WB stands ready to pick up the series to likely replace the dismal
performing 'Roswell' series.
Jan

first time ever DVD sales surpassed VHS in the United States.
Jan
10: Digital Bits Changes: I
just checked the Digital Bits website and got a new website called
home theater forum. Not a nice site at all. Wonder what is up with
this change. Flash over substance... doesn't cut it.
Jan
10: Prey Movie Unlikely: At
least on the Sci-Fi Channel for now. With the netling getting a new
owner last month, and the future genre of the station uncertain, it
seems unlikely that many new series will be green lit by the network
for a while. Prey wasn't on the main list and it could be longer
before seeing anything positive from all the fans hard work to bring
the series back. There has been no further rumors concerning UPN
looking at the defunct series either.
Jan
9: Hulk: As talked about all
along Lou Ferringo has been promised a role in the upcoming Incredible
Hulk film starring Eric Bana. (moviehole)
Jan
9: Pearl Harbor: This film may
not be on anyones best picture list for the year, but the DVD cut of
the film with almost 30 minutes added has was incredible and the DVD
sales have shown it. Pearl Harbor has sold over 8.5M copies. Second
only to Shrek and second all time.
Jan
9: Quantum Leap: Creator
Donald P. Bellasario is interested in getting the cast together for a
Reunion movie and actually setting things right, getting Sam back
home. Many fans were disappointed in the last episode where Same gets
stuck in a 1953 bar with God as the bartender. I know I was.
Unfortunately for fans, Universal is the one who owns the rights to
the series and have shown zero interest in a telefilm. (moviehole.com
from coming soon)
Jan
9: Carrie Series: Beside

6: Jason X: Check out my
Review of the film. Jason Hadley was nice enough to forward me a copy
of the un-released film Saturdy afternoon. Couldn't wait to take a view or two
of the new film from New Line Cinema and director Jim Isaac. I enjoyed
it immensely. This is the best film in the franchise fans. READ
MY REVIEW hopefully I can put some captured images up soon from
the film. No guarantees though. Check out Josh's site at Josh
Hadley.
Jan
6: Lord of the Rings: The
American Film Institute has name 'Lord of the Rings' the best film of
year. Give me a break. It is a good movie. I didn't find anything
incredible about them except for the acting. Special effects were
standard and the story already known. It is a three hour movie with no
ending. Yes, I know the film is part of a trilogy that tells a
story... but leaving fans hanging for a year is ridiculous and unfair
to the fans when the second film would be in the can before the
summer. Even the DVD won't be out until just before the second film is
released. It's Stupid. At least the two Matrix sequel will be release
six months apart.
Jan
6: Networks Worry: With the
fad interest in Game shows and survivor series dwindling
networks are worried and scrambling for new material. Now they appear
to be looking to court TV style material. Amazing after decent rating
series like, the Pretender, the Profiler, the Others, Now and Again,
and Early Edition were canceled with ratings in the mid 6's. Networks
refuse to give up on reality shows thinking a change of venue will
help rather than coming up with some quality TV shows.
Jan
6: Next Gen DVDs: Star Trek:
the Next Generation season one DVD boxed set will hit stores March
19th. Big question is... with all these season one boxed sets of
series coming out, what can the fan afford? Most seasonal sets are in
the $100+ range. Not a bad price for 22 or so episodes for sure. But
how many more would be sold at $60 per season?
Jan
5: Green Hornet/ Time Tunnel: VHS
Cover Sheets for the Green Hornet and Irwin Allen's 'The Time Tunnel

Jan
5: Elektra Cast: The Daredevil

carry a film.
Jan
5: XXX Raps: Vin Diesel is

sounds like a real winner... not.

Hardees/Carls Jr. and Hershey have become promotional partners
and will contribute a total of about $18M in advertising.
Jan
5: Santa Clause 2: Elizabeth
Mitchell has joined the cast of Tim Allen's 'Santa Clause 2'. She will
play teacher at Allen's sons school who will eventually become Mrs.
Clause.
Jan
5: Sci-Fi Fans Fickle: It is
so amazing that shows like NYPD Blue & ER can rotate stars through
the series and remain on top in the ratings. Sci-Fi fans don't seem to
be as forgiving or understanding with the changing of cast members in
a series. X-Files is a perfect example... sure it could the series
final season. But if the ratings are there - there would be another
season. Now, very unlikely. SF fans seem to lock in on people and are
unwilling to accept casting changes. Changes which will allow fresh
storylines and new material.
Jan
4: Dead Zone Lives: The
proposed UPN series 'Dead Zone' starring Anthony Michael Hall and
DS9-er Nicole deBoer will NOT be appearing on UPN as hoped but will
now take its chances on the USA Network as they have ordered a full 22
episode season as well as picking up the pilot telefilm. The Hollywood
Reporter has released information that USA is paying nearly one
million dollars per episode and will be the networks most expensive
series ever. UPN was unable to make room for the series, making it
available to the USA network who really wanted it. Production on the
series starts in March up in Vancouver. Possibly debuting as early as
this summer. The telefilm was the highest rated film among test
audience that UPN has had. The Dead Zone is from ex-ds9 & Voyager
creator Ron Pillar, son Shawn Pillar and Lloyd Segan from Lion's Gate
& Paramount. (trek.com) Lion's Gate Production also produces
'Tracker' and is responsible for the crappy time slot the series has
been stuck with.

earlier.) Columbia/Tri-Star has scored the international distribution
rights for the film.

4: Star Wars Card Game: Fans
who can't get enough Star Wars will soon be able to play a new card
game... Wizards of the Coast has scored exclusive rights to license a
create a trading card game based on the feature film series.
Jan
4: Professional 2: First it
was just Bruce Willis' name , and now comes word that X-Men 'Wolverine', Hugh Jackman is also
up for the part of the villain in the film. (variety)
Jan
4: X-Files Tanked: The new
season of the X-Files has finally flopped dropping to an amazing 3.3
rating. While some if it may have to do with Duchovny's permanent
departure it likely still has to do with the fact this is likely the
finally season, which does poorly in the ratings, and the fact that
Gillian Anderson has beat a dead horse to death letting everyone know
she is as sick of doing the series as Duchovny was. Who wants to watch
a series the stars don't even enjoy doing while they get paid for it.
Jan
4: Rush Hour 3: The FilmJerk
website is reporting that the project is being fast tracked and ideas
farmed out to various writers. Next up... finding a time in both Chris
Tucker's, Jackie Chan's and Brett Ratners schedule to do the film.
Jan
3: UPN & Invisibility?: Heard
an interesting rumor for the second time in about a week. I have heard
the interesting rumor that UPN just might, MIGHT, actually be sniffing
around 'the Invisible Man' TV series that the SFC cancelled despite
the series being its second highest rated series - citing poor
syndication ratings. Syndication sales, which USA studios did a poor
job with. Hell, the series didn't even air on the USA Network. What is
up with that?
Jan
3: Enterprise/Smallville: One
is UPN's best new series and the other the best new WB series. While
both series are neck and neck in the season ratings, both series could
benefit in a most awesome way with over 17 million new viewers able to
tune in week in and week out. Buffy, Smallville, Enterprise, Special
Unit 2, and Angel could see ratings jumps that could double before the
end of the regular season. This single move could put the Netlings on
a better footing with the big four. Fox TV, which appears to be
struggling as it is, had better start looking over their should.
Jan
3: Legend of the Rangers: Only
16 more days until the premiere of the telefilm pilot 'Babylon 5:
Legend of the Rangers' on the commercial heavy Sci-Fi Channel at 9pm.
Get the VCR HOT! Previews look pretty good.
Jan
3: Dec & yearly stats: Thank
you everyone. I had the best month ever, and wonderful year with over
a 500% increase from 2000. For December Sci-Fi 2000 had over 193gb of
transferred date, and over 78,000 pageviews. For 2001 the site ended
up with nearly 600,000 pageviews, and over 8,000,000 raw hits.
Thanks to all of you, this has been a most amazing year, and I have
met some wonderful people. Hooohoooo!!!
Jan
3: Hurd Morns T3: Producer
Gale Anne Hurd produced T1 & T2 with James Cameron. She told
Cinescape's Scott Collura that when she & Jim realized they
weren't going to be involved in the third film they morned for a while
but they're over it. Jeez these two, especially Cameron -
said he was NOT interested in directing the third film. He wanted to
work on his True Lies 2 project. So... work on it.
Jan
3: N' Sync Goes Star Wars:
That's right fans... the music group N' Sync will be appearing in the
background of the film as Jedi Knights in cameo rolls. Reportedly at
Hollywood.com the group will only be in a split second background
scene getting blown up by droids in the arena on Geonosis. Might even
be a blurry background shot... but hey, they're getting blown up...
sounds like a plan.
Jan
3: Ren & Stimpy Return: It
isn't with new episodes but fans can see them uncut on VH-1 weeknights
at 11:30pm. It won't be the edited crap once shown on
Nickelodeon.
Jan
2: Jason vs Freddy: AICN has a
scoop on the proposed script for the horror film fans have been
rooting for... 'Freddy vs Jason'. You can check it out, if your
interested, over at their site.
Jan
2: Andromeda Font: Folks
looking for the Andromeda font will now find it in the fonts area in
A-3. Sci-Fi Fonts.
Jan
2: Netlings to Score Big: UPN
& WB series ratings may be looking towards a nice increase over
the next several months with satellite giants 'Echostar' and 'Direct
TV' adding the Networks to their packages. This is a monstrous step
for both networks to earn more advertising money, which leads to
larger names starring in their upcoming series. It will be interesting
to see how things change now with UPN & the WB able to hit more
than 17,000,000 viewers every day.
Jan
2: Red Dwarf: There are fans
who are really looking for this film to happen, and they may be upset
with unconfirmed news that Danny John-Jules has quit after problems
with his character. News also comes that Chris Barrie may be upset
with the constant rewriting of the final script. (moviehole)
Jan
2: Nemesis Trailer: SyFy
Portal is reporting a rumor that the first teaser trailer for the
upcoming Star Trek: Nemesis feature may hit theaters as early as May.
It may even feature some dialogue and use stock special-effect footage.
Jan
2: Andromeda #1: Andromeda
remains the number one syndicated genre series for the week of Dec.
3rd. scoring a 3.1 rating. Its sister series 'Mutant X' from the same
production company was number two.
Jan
2: No Romance for Picard:
Patrick Stewart told Conan O'Brien the new film will not feature a
romantic interest for Captain Picard, but will feature some
high-energy action for the fans. (trek5.com)
Jan
2: ABC Family Stays: Echostar
has been forced by the US District Court of L.A. to keep the channel
on the Satellite company at least until January 10th when the Disney
& Echostar take their beefs to the courtroom. The courtorder
expires @6pm on Jan 10th.
Jan
2: Visitor Engage: Deepspace
Nine star Nana Visitor, who played Kira Neyrs is engaged to Chicago
Manager 'Mathew Rimmer' Last name may be spelt incorrectly. I thought
she was married to Alexander Saddig, the doctor on DS9, and they had a
kid together. Guess she moved on...
Jan
2: Big Money: Everyone knows
that sci-fi series budgets are small and the actors don't make what
other series do. To prove it... Jane Leeves, who plays Daphne on
Frasier, just signed a 3 year deal to remain with the show for a mere
$30M - $365K per episode. This is for a supporting role in a half-hour
series. That per episode is more than the star of Sci-Fi series might
make over a 66 episode, three season run.
Jan
2: Scooby 2?: Mathew Lillard
and Freddie Prince Jr. are both up for doing a sequel to as yet
unreleased live action Scooby Doo movie. They had so much fun doing
the film, they're ready for another one. Unfortunately it won't come
down to fun, but dollars. And this film isn't likely to be a money
maker. It could end up a crappy doo or stinky-poo.
Jan
1: NEW YEARS DAY: There is
definitely no big news today. But, I have added a new 'the Crow:
Stairway to Heaven' VHS cover sheet to the site for download. Enjoy.
Jan
1: Fireworks: The firework
display here in Las Vegas was incredible. I saw the impressive show
from the new Green Valley Resort (Station) Casino which overlooks the
city. You can see the strip as well as downtown. The show lasted ten
minutes, and largely displayed the Red, White, and Blue colors of the
United States. It was enough to take your breathe away. Whew! Times
Square couldn't touch the outside party on the strip that took place
from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere that lasted into the early
morning hours.
