30: Babylon 5 project: JMS
told fans in a newsgroup the following... "To the many questions
that have arisen here of late...yes, as I mentioned before, there is
the possibility of something Babylon 5 related on the horizon,
but again I don't want anyone getting excited until we know if either
one of these two projects is going to actually come to fruition.
We should know where this lands in the next few weeks. The only
thing I will say is that they're not print projects, so if you were to
assume it's for TV or film you wouldn't be too far off...but that
neither of them are series. And that's all I'm going to say
about them for now.
Sept
30: Dr. Who: Never been a fan
of Dr. Who but he's head back to television. In a surprise
announcement on September 26, the British Broadcasting Company (BBC)
announced that Doctor Who will soon return to UK television as
an all-new series commissioned by BBC-1 controller Lorraine
Heggessey, written by Russell T. Davies ("Queer as
Folk") and produced by Julie Gardner and Mal Young.
The new television series, which has been confirmed in official BBC
press releases and covered by most major news services in the UK, US,
Canada, Australia and New Zealand, is a production of BBC Wales and
will debut in 2005 on the BBC-1 network in Britain. Get more by CLICKING

Sept

vampire/werewolf feature has fallen to third place at the box office
in its second week, and taken in a total of just over $37
million.
Sept
30: Marvel Gets Smart:
There's a possibility that Marvel might be getting smart and
produce its own copyrights into feature films. The company is looking
into producing it's own mid-budget and direct to video films. They
have over 4,700 characters to work from.
Sept
30: Henrickson Gets Alien Again:
Lance Henrickson, who played an android in Aliens, has signed on to
play a role in the upcoming Alien vs Predator feature.
Sept
30: Wonder Woman: The film is
getting another rewrite. Birds of Prey's Laeta Kalogridis has been
hired to pen another script. Joel Silver and Warner Brothers are still
planning to produce the film if it ever does happen. As long as it has
taken, why not accept scripts from amateurs and see what you
get.
Sept
30: Wolverine: the Dark
Horizons website is reporting that Wolverine star Hugh Jackman has
signed a two picture deal with 20th Century Fox. Right now he is the
only original X-Men cast member to have been offered the contract.
Also being mentioned to return is Kelly Hu, and Tyler Mane for the
spin-off. Right now there is nothing developing for X3.
Sept
30: Jake 2.0 vs the O.C.: Fox
is moving its summer hit series the O.C. to Wednesday after the
baseball playoffs. The O.C. will be taking on UPN's new series Jake
2.0 which has done decent in the ratings since its premiere. The
O.C. also will compete with the West Wing, King of Queens &
Becker, along with the WB's Angel. What a full night of television.
Me, I'll be watching Jake 2.0.
Sept
30: Batman vs Jones: That's
Indiana Jones. Warner Brothers has set a July 4th 2005 release date
for the long in development Batman 5 feature - which puts it head to
head with the fourth and final Indiana Jones feature.
Sept
30: Forever Knight Update: The
new Part One set coming out is indeed the first full season. Look for
it October 21st instead of the 23rd.
Sept
30: Spy Hunter: The video game
turned feature film, is slated for a summer of 2005 release. Spy
Hunter will be the next film on The Rocks schedule. (Variety)
Sept
29: Pirate Ship Sold: Remember
the Pirate show at Treasure Island in Las Vegas? Did you ever get to
see it? Well, it's gone and Treasure Island is now just T.I. (Terrible
Idea if you ask me.) They have auctioned off everything pirate - even
the ship which sailed around the bend and was sunk by the pirates. A
local brain surgeon and movie prop collector, named Loni Hammigren has
purchased the ex-Pirate ship for a mere $500,000. He is in the process
of remodeling his home already to house the huge ship. Already in the
drive-way of his monstrous home is a space shuttle the size of a
fifth-wheel.
Sept
29: Do Your Bloodiest in 13:
Blood will be spilled this month in preparation for the "Fangoria
Blood Drive" as aspiring horror movie directors can submit movies
of less than 13 minutes. The burgeoning filmmakers will get the chance
to have their work showcased in the Koch Vision DVD in conjunction
with Fangoria Magazine's Starlog Group. This first-ever search
for best mini horror film allows filmmakers of all ages to submit a
moive. The DVD release of the winners will be hosted by "House of
1000 Corpses" director Rob Zombie, and include featurettes from
special effects wizard Stan Winston and legendary director Clive
Barker. The DVD will be compiled and the features produced by the
noted independent video company, Longview Entertainment.
Submissions for the Fangoria Blood Drive will be accepted until Nov.
30, with the winners announced Dec. 31. Visit www.fangoriablooddrive.com
for more information. (Zap2it.com website)
Sept
29: Forever Knight on DVD: You
can expect to see the Forever Knight trilogy DVD box set on October
23st. I'm not sure anyone should spend the money for it at a whopping
SRP $79.95. I can't information if this is the first season listed as
part one or not. For a season the price is decent (Amazon is
pre-selling it for... $59.95).
Sept
24: Lost in Space: Lost in
reruns forever, Lost in Space looks headed back to mainstream
television in a new series from director John Woo and writer Doug
Petrie along with Synthesis Entertainment. Regency and 20th Century
Fox are producing. The new series will be family based and take place
about 100 years into the future. Several networks have expressed
interest in the project. (variety)
Sept
24: Magnum PI: Universal and
producer Brian Grazer are developing Magnum PI for the big screen. A
deal with co-creator Donald Bellisario and Grazer's Imagine
Entertainment is already in place. Austin Powers co-scribe Michael
McCullers has been hired to pen the script. No, we won't see the 60
year old Tom Selleck as Magnum. The project would be completely
recast.
Sept
24: Enterprise: On tonight's
episode we get to see Enterprise become Star Trek Enterprise, which
means Braga and Berman will likely do the same boring shit to the show
that they did with Voyager. Gee, thanks guys. Heaven for bid something
be different in Star Trek. Let's make everything the same. Shit!
Sept
24: Horror Channel: There is a
proposed Horror Channel being developed with the likes of Wes Craven,
John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper who were added to the advisory board by
developers Nick Psaltos and Kim Bangash. For years Horror has been
part of the Sci-Fi thing along with the fantasy genre. The
Sci-Fi Channel is already digging into the Horror genre for much of
their material. They need $3 million to get started in the next four
months and have about $750,000 right now.
Sept
24: Mad Max IV: The project
has been put on hold due to events taking place in Irag. Shit, film
somewhere else if you want to make the film.
Sept
24: King Kong: Why are we
making this? Anyone? Anyone? Director Peter Jackson is looking at
Naomi Watts to star in the film. Watts last starred in "The
Ring".
Sept
24: Animation Closing: Disney
is closing down its Japan based Walt Disney Animation unit. This
portion of the Disney company never put out in amazing work for
Disney.
Sept
24: Last Pirates: Disney has
reported that Pirates of the Caribbean and any sequels will be the
last feature based on one of their park rides. So?
Sept
24: Goonies 2: Scouting has
apparently begun for the sequel in the same area where the first film
took place. That would be around the Astoria area in the Oregon State
Park.
Sept
24: Babyon 5: Fans can look
for the fourth season DVD boxed set on January 6th. Hopefully we'll be
able to give away a boxed set again. Keep your fingers crossed.
Sept
24: Firefly DVD: Fans of the
series... about 100 people based on the ratings, can pick up the DVD
boxed set on December 9th for about a $49.99 suggested retail
price.
Sept
24: Matrix Revolutions: Check
out the official website for some cool stuff on the third and final
picture. CLICK
HERE for the site. Lots of new pictures and information on the
site.
Sept
20: Wetworks Working: The
movie company that has the Matt Helm franchise rights in development
has picked up several new genre properties to play with. They have
picked up the rights to Arthur C. Clark's Venus Prime Novels, the
video game Freaky Flyers, and Joseph Badal's new novel The Pythagorean
Solution. All are likely to be developed with Dreamworks
Pictures.
Sept
20: Episode III: Production on
the sixth and hopefully final Star Wars feature has wrapped production
five days ahead of schedule. Episode III goes into post-production
immediately. There will be re-shoots scheduled for March to fill in
gaps and re-shoot scenes that looked like crap. Episode III has about
18 months of Special Effects to be completed before it's summer 2005
release.
Sept
20: Alien vs Predator: The
creature effects shop, Amalgamated Dynamics has been hired to create
the creatures for the Alien vs Predator feature due to begin lensing
in Prague sometime in October. Amalgamated did the creature effects
for Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. (variety)
Sept
20: Supergirl: The WB has put
the good graces back on Alicia Silverstone after her apparently good
job in Scooby Doo II. She is now the front runner for Supergirl. There
isn't much movement, but it is creeping.
Sept
20: Alien 3: While being the
weakest of the four films, the new directors cut of the film could be
almost 30 minutes longer than the theatrical version we all saw...
well, some of us went to see.
Sept
20: Underworld 2: The Dark
Horizons website reports the Screen Gems already has a sequel to
Underworld in the works.
Sept
18: Catwoman: Even though the
production is up in the air due to financing problems, they have
signed Benjamin Bratt to play the male lead.
Sept
18: More Witches to TV: The
merger between CBS and Warner Bros. have an idea to bring the Sandra
Bullock/ Nicole Kidman flick Practical Magic to television in a
dramatic hour-long series. It will deal with the two sisters dealing
with their magic abilities. (Variety)
Sept
18: Star Wars DVDs: The
original (special editions) trilogy could be heading to DVD in late
2004 according to reports from the digital bits website. Lucas is
planning to use the same format with
Sept
18: More Chucky: Why anyone
would want more is beyond me, but Chucky is coming back for another go
around. The new movie if it happen will be titled "Seed of
Chucky". Producer Don Mancini is hot to do another film and wants
Cabin Fever director Eli Roth to helm the project.
Sept
18: Enterprise: Wednesday's
episode of Enterprise was actually very good. That is the type of
story that should have opened the season. This is the type of creative
writing and acting that should be maintained for the entire
season. That being said Braga and Berman may have already doomed
the series to extinction at the end of this season. The ratings have
been average at best the past two weeks earning a 4.4 and 4.2
respectively. Going up against Smallville is going to kill Enterprise
over the long haul. Enterprise may be able to maintain the audience it
has, but gaining fans or viewers could be impossible at this point in
the series status.
Sept
18: Carnivale: The first
episode on HBO was great. A series to watch for sure. This is one that
I will follow on pay cable, along with Jeremiah.
Sept
18: Jake 2.0: The first two
episodes have been rather plain and simple. The series seems unlikely
to maintain the ratings from Enterprise. I think by week three to five
people will start changing the channels unless things improve.
Sept
18: Alien Quadrilogy: Don't
forget fans, this is a must have for alien fans. All four films will
be extended versions, in the nine disc dvd boxed set. It's due in the
fall of this year.
Sept
18: Go Joe!: Hasbro has hired
Lorenzo di Bonaventura to make a movie deal for their action figure
company.
Sept
18: Predator 3: The Rock has
confirmed that he has no connection with the Predator 3
possibility.
Sept
18: Transylvania: NBC and
Universal are hammering out an idea to bring Transylvania to
television. The series will be based on new Stephen Sommers flick Van
Helsing. The show will only be connect by the spirit of the film.
There will be no monster hunter, rather a young Texas cowboy who
becomes sheriff in a town full of strange incidents and creatures.
Sept
18: Dead Like Me: The Showtime
series is cheap to produce and has decent ratings. Showtime has
renewed the series for a 15 episode second season.
Sept
16: Teen Titans Soon: New Line
has purchased the feature film rights to DC's Teen Titans.
Unfortunately they have hired Hulk scribe Michael France to pin the
Titans script. (Variety)
Sept
16: Questor Returns: The
remake of Gene Roddenberry's pilot telefilm "The Questor
Tapes" has found some financing and is moving forward. They still
have to decided if the movie will go network or cable. The movie
originally done in 1974 never made it to a weekly series. Look for the
pilot telefilm to hit the airwaves in the 2004/2005 season.
Sept
16: More Flash, Less Color: DC
Comics and the WB are teaming up (DC is owned by Warner Bros.) to
bring back the Flash as weekly television series again. Unfortunately
the Flash will follow the Smallville deal and we won't see The Flash
in red tights during the series. I wonder if the series is from Rick
Berman though as the Flash will have a time-travel element in it. The
Flash can move so fast that he can move backwards in time.
Sept
16: Police Academy 9: Not
genre or even action but when you can do nine features I guess it
should be mentioned. Police Academy will be going into production on
its ninth film. Sure to be a direct to video, as the last few have
been. Still amazing to be putting out that many sequels.
Sept
16: Catwoman In Jeopardy: No
she won't be on the game show, but fans waiting for the feature film
might be waiting longer as Village Roadshow is in financial poop after
several huge losses. They had committed $100 million to the feature
but might be pulling out. They are also considering pulling out of
Oceans 12 ($100 million committed) and Troy, which is in production.
(dark horizons)
Sept
16: Batman Selected: The
latest and greatest is that actor Christian Bale has landed the role
of Batman in the long, long, long anticipated fifth film. Also being
mention for the role of Commissioner Gordon is one 40+ actor Dennis
Quaid.
Sept
10: Rick Baker Quits: Special
Monster creator Rick Baker has reportedly retired. His shop has closed
down. No official word on what's up with Baker.
Sept
10: Craven Goes Downhill: Wes
Craven, once a horror hero can't catch a break anymore. His latest
flop being filmed, Cursed, is schedule for some major reshoots and
possible recasting when production restarts in November. The film was
so bad that Dimension Films halted production in June after 11 weeks
of filming. They wanted a complete re-write of the script. Rick Baker
was working on the film doing the creature effects when he suddenly
retired.
Sept
10: Phantom of the Opera: The
remake of the Phantom of the Opera feature has been busy casting
lately. Joining the production now are Miranda
Richardson, Minnie Driver, Ciaran Hinds, Simon Callow, James Fleet,
Victor McGuire and Jennifer Ellison.
Already on the project were Gerard Butler, Patrick Wilson and Emmy
Rossum. Production will last 16 weeks, in the United Kingdom beginning
Sept. 15th.
Sept
10: Tarzan Gets Lawless: The
new WB series has added Warrior Princess Lucy Lawless to the cast.
She'll play the aunt of Tarzan. Tarzan debuts on the WB October
5th at 9pm.
Sept
10: Jake 2.0: The WB
reportedly isn't expecting that much from Jake 2.0 this season in
order to stick around for a full season. All the UPN series has to do
is out perform last seasons ratings for The Twilight Zone. The series
among audiences seems to be one of the most anticipated this season.
Why in the hell did they ever cancel SEVEN DAYS. It's been the second
best rated series in that time slot, and UPN never considered bringing
the series back on line. Same with Special Unit 2 which garnered
decent ratings and was the timeslots best rated series averaging about
3.44. Even a repeat of Wolf Lake on UPN beat the ratings of the
Twilight Zone. Jake 2.0 should prosper and earn at least a full season
commitment from the network.
Sept
10: Doe Joins Blade: John Doe
star Dominic Purcell has joined the cast of Blade: Trinity as the lead
villain. Production is slated to begin this month in Vancouver,
Canada.
Sept
10: King Solomon Returns: Remember
the horrible King Solomon's Mines feature co-starring Sharon Stone?
Well HBO has remade the Henry Rider Haggard's novel into a new
mini-series. Filming was completed earlier this summer in South Africa
and stars Patrick Swayze (Ghost) and Alison Doody (Indiania Jones
III).
Sept
10: To Many Remakes: Hollywood
isn't fresh with ideas anymore as we all know. Even more so with the
news of another friggin remake. In work are remakes of The Fly,
Invasion of the Body Snatcher, and Dawn of the Dead. Joining the
remake list now includes Amityville Horror as well. Man...
Sept
10: Willie Wonka: Looks like
Johnny "Fuck America" Depp has won the starring role in Time
Burton's remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Yet another
feature film that I will boycott. I wish all Americans would boycot
any project done involving one Johnny Depp.
Sept
4: More Bat Crap: With Warner
working on Batman and Superman projects you wonder who's spitting out
more crap. Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan are planning to
test several hot NEW actors for the lead role for the
"proposed" fifth Batman feature. All this bull-shit is one
way to keep projects in the news that could be years down the
road.
Sept
4: Boomtown: What do you do
when a series is struggling in the ratings? Why some girl on girl
action of course. On the September 26th season premiere fans can
expect a STEAMY SHOWER scene between fems Rebecca DeMornay (Three
Muskateers) and Kelly Hu (X-Men II/ Scorpion King) (TV
Guide) Time for some clam chowder. :)
Sept
4: Firefly: Fox is indeed
planning a feature film based around the flopped series Firefly.
Whedon is penning the script and production looks set for February o
2004.
Sept
3: Predator 3: The Rock is
being pursued to take on the role of Dutch in a proposed Predator
three film titled... The Deadlier the Species. The script is presently
being pitched to 20th Century Fox. (Filmforce.com &
Luckey316) This seems unlikely to happen anytime soon with a
Predator vs Aliens feature currently in development. Any further Alien
or Predator features would like hinge on the success of this film this
one.
Sept
3: Buffy Joins Angel: More
proof that Angel is turning into Buffy comes with word that Sarah
Michelle Gellar is negotiating to return to Angel as Buffy for two
episodes next season.
Sept
3: Jeepers Creepers II: The
sequel opened to a record Labor Day weekend earning the top spot at
the box office with $18.5 million over the 4 day weekend.
Sept
3: Dragonball Z: Roland
Emmerich is considering doing a live-action adaptation of Dragonball
Z.
Sept
3: Episode III: TheForce.net
has several spoilers on their website. But how many real spoilers can
there be? Skywalker becomes Vader. Wow!
Sept
3: Stargate & ID: Roland
Emmerich and Dean Devlin have no plans right now to do the two
proposed Stargate features or ID4-2. A script was turned in for ID4-2
and received positive feedback. But it was not as good as the first
film, so they aren't going to go forward with it. (dark horizons.com)
Sept
3: Xena's Back!: The second
season of Xena is at your local retailers for a SRP of $69.99 from
Anchor Bay.
Sept
3: Charlie Chan: The Asians
are bitching about the films and the Charlie Chan Festival was
canceled. Asswipes. Charlie Chan were wonderfully done horror films
that I never took to be demeaning to the Asians. They are great films.
Beginning September 13th look for four of these restored films on
Fox's Movie Channel. They will be Murder Over New York; Charlie Chan
at the Opera; Charlie Chan in Honolulu; and Castle in the Desert.
(Hollywood Reporter) Fox's license agreement to air the 1930's
films runs out at the end of September, and they have opted to air
some of the films. The Charlie Chan films did not STEREOTYPE
Asians. What a load of shit when this happens. Crap like this is why
the classic "Song of the South" animated Disney movie will
never be release on DVD or Video again. It's cheesey shit for
activist groups just looking for shit to bitch and moan about.
Sept
2: The Lost Flux: Fans waiting
for the Aeon Flux live action feature based on the MTV character will
be disappointed to learn that plans for the film have been scrapped by
MTV films and Paramount.
Sept
2: Superman 5: There is more
gossip about the fifth film again. But I'm tired of all the bullshit
going on and nothing happening with this project.
Sept
2: RIP Charles Bronson: 81
year old Charles Bronson has passed away of Pneumonia. Only Robert
Vaughn is left from the Magnificent Seven feature. Charles Bronson,
Yul Brenner and James Colburn are gone. (dark horizons)
