29: Andromeda X: The fall-out
of Fireworks Entertainment closing is affecting Tribune Entertainment.
Fans of Andromeda should know that this development does indeed affect
Andromeda. It too has shut down production immediately. Tribune
Entertainment had ordered the production on both series for the
2004/2005 season exercising it contractual options, which require it's
partner to provide funding for the series. This means that Fireworks
is responsible for the funding of both series despite closing shop.
Litigation is currently underway with Fireworks claiming they are not
obligated to participate in the further financing or production of
either series. Tribune claims otherwise, but is unwilling to go
forward with production if they have to come up with the funding. (futon
critic)
Apr
29: Sin City: The cast keeps
growing. Nick Stahl (Terminator 3, Carnival) has joined the cast of
Robert Rodriquez and Frank Miller's Sin City project.
Apr
29: Elektra: IGN Filmforce is
reporting news that actress/model Natassia Malthe has been cast to
play the villain Typhoid Mary in the upcoming Daredevil spinoff
Elektra, which stars Jennifer Garner and Terrance Stamp.
Apr
29: Anthem: Roland Emmerich
and Dean Devlin are teaming up again on a new thriller titled Anthem.
The film is a political thriller involving what happens when an
impeached President of the United States refuses to surrender his
position of leadership. Somehow the President's situation is tied up
with a lone FBI agent that has discovered a conspiracy that threatens
the fabric of the country's Constitution. Emmerich and Devlin are
producing the new film, which they wrote together, at Columbia
Pictures. They are bringing in a new fresh screenwriter to polish up
the script.
Apr
28: Andromeda Fate: The
Fireworks shutdown could affect the new deal with the Sci-Fi Channel
to pick up the final season of Andromeda. Andromeda could suffer the
same fate as Mutant X. Tribune is just the distribution company and
has little say in the status of Andromeda. If you've got the money,
the Fireworks library could be yours.
Apr
28: Alliance Atlantis: Another
Canadian company has shut down the television production side of its
company as of last week, with the exception of its C.S.I. franchise.
The reason for the Fireworks and Alliance Atlantis shutdown is the
gradual shrinking of the international syndicated markets. Something I
have been bitching about for the past two years. Cable networks
are picking up repeats of newer series such as Friends, Frasier, Drew
Carey, and other dramas to broadcast in these timeslots. The ratings
are generally better for these shows than new syndicated television
series.
Apr
28: Van Helsing, The Series:
NBC is developing a series based on the Steven Sommers feature
starring Hugh Jackman. The series will be titled Transylvannia. The
new series, should it happen, will take place in the world of Van
Helsing. Sommers was asked to start writing the first six episodes and
told NBC no. He was still in the middle of filming Van Helsing and may
be working on the sequel, rather than writing for television. Buffy
executive producer David Fury has been brought on board to develop the
series. Sommers has Deep Rising, The Mummy franchise and the Scorpion
King under his belt - you know Van Helsing will kick some ass at the
box office starting May 7th.
Apr
28: Sin City: Dark Angel star
Jessica Alba become one of the many known stars to join the cast of
Robert Rodriguez's feature Sin City. Already on board? Bruce
Willis, Mickey Rourke, Brittany Murphy, and Elijah Wood. Production on
Sin City began last month.
Apr
28: X-Men 3: The X-Men's third
and likely final foray onto the screen is still in the works, but
moving at a snails pace. Hugh Jackman has confirmed that he'll be back
for another go as Wolverine. Jackman will likely spin off
Wolverine into a trilogy of his own to add to Van Helsing, and just
maybe one James Bond. Pretty impressive.
Apr
28: Indiana Jones IV: Delayed
again. What the fuck bother doing the damn thing? Lucas is fiddle
fucking around with the script and Harrison Ford is aging by the
minute here. Shit or get off the pot.
Apr
26: Dino-mercial: Anyone take
the time to watch the Sci-Fi Channel's Dinocroc premiere? Crap! I
thought I was viewing a commercial marathon or something. Five minutes
of Dino-croc with five minutes of commercial breaks. Hard to get into
one of their telefilms as it is without being slammed with commercial
breaks. Was the film any good? Hell, I have no idea. I watched so many
commercials it's hard to say. Oh, you mean the movie. The
special effects were low budget, and the acting wasn't to bad either.
But I could be thinking of an Expedia.com commercial or
something.
Apr
26: Sub-Mariner: The Marvel
comics character Sub-Mariner (Marvel's version of of Aquaman) might
have found its actor. The Dark Horizon's website have information that
The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, might be the front runner. This is not
a Rock type feature. He's just two damn big for the role. The
character should be a physical statue, but not built like a mountain.
Someone like Mark Dacascas (Crying Freeman, Brotherhood of the Wolf,
the Crow: Stairway to Heaven -series) would be the perfect build in
appearance from head to toe. An underrated actor who could pull off
the role completely.
Apr
26: Star Shit!: Rick Berman is
working on another shitty Star Trek project. Why Shitty? Just look at
what the asshole has done with Voyager, Enterprise and the last three
Star Trek flicks. Now the Bastard is working on a Star Trek prequel
feature film. Can you friggin' believe it? This guy has killed
Paramount's cash cow, and they keep this guy around.
Apr
26: American Gothic: Gary Cole
will be returning to his TV Role in a new feature film. The film will
be a retelling of the events of the television series. Also joining
the cast are original members Nick Searcy, Brenda Bakke and Jake
Weber. The movie has been in the works for several years, but the
hold-up has been the pending sale of Universal to NBC. That will be
sorted out this week. And yes, original Executive Producer Sam Raimi
just might be helming the project. It's reported the director is
keeping an eye on its status. (moviehole.net)
Apr
26: Troy: Despite how good
this film really is, can it actually recoup the $185 million it cost
to make? The film, starring Brad Pitt, has better be as successful
overseas and they hope it will be here. The previews look outstanding,
but that's just 30 seconds of a two-hour film.
Apr
23: Stargate Atlantis: The new Sci-Fi Channel series is slated to begin in July,
and their website for the series is online with some cast photos,
information on the new crew and a bit more. CLICK
HERE to check out the site.
Apr
23: Sky Captain Must Move:
Paramount isn't ready to release their new film "Sky Captain and
The World of Tomorrow" on June 25th. The studio is claiming a
crowded release schedule for moving the movies premiere to Sept. 17th.
Might be a smart move since June 25th just happens to be Columbia
Pictures release of Spiderman 2.
Apr
23: X-Man Gets Iron Man: David
Hayter, who has written the X-Men feature with director Brian Singer
has been hired to pen the new Iron Man feature. He will attempt to
rewrite the Miles Millar/Alfred Gough draft.
Apr
23: Watchmen: Screenwriter
David Hayter is apparently out as director of the new Watchmen feature
based on the comic books. Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Darren
Aronofsky is now onboard to helm the project. This likely will
not be Aronofsky's next project though. With Hugh Jackman showing
interest in Aronofsky's $70 million dollar project "The
Fountain", might be back on the table. Watchmen has been in
development hell for several years now.
Apr
23: New James Bond: MGM COO
Chris McGurk has confirmed they are writing the new James Bond script
for a generic Bond, and not for Pierce Brosnan. Both MGM and EON
productions are in agreement on this one. (Variety) Selection of
a new Bond could be months away. However, the rumors will be going
into hi-gear anytime now.
Apr
23: TBS Wants to Be New: At
least that's the line their telling everyone. TBS is getting a new
logo, a new on air look, and a new package that kicks off on June 4th.
(the futon critic) Hey,
it's still TBS airing comedy repeats and their own comedy reality
television.
Apr
23: TNT's The Grid: A new
six hour limited series from TNT starring Dylan McDermott (the
Practice) and Julianna Margulies (ER) along with Tom Skerritt (Top
Gun, Alien). Margulies plays maverick NSA counter-terrorism operative
Maya Jackson and McDermott plays FBI agent Max Canary, two of three
young American and two British counter-terrorism agents who
collaborate to disrupt a ferocious terrorist cell bent on destroying
the world’s economic foundations. Production comes from Fox
Television Studios and Carnival Films and has already begun.
Apr
23: Another TNT Western: TNT
looks to be following HBO's new hit western saga. Steven Spielberg
will be joining the network to produce a new 12 limited western series
for 2005. The series titled "Into The West" is about the
opening of the American West. The series will follow two
multi-generational American and Native American families, with each
telling the dramatic stories of the development of the West from their
distinct points of view. The episodes will bring them into contact
with many of the larger-than-life characters and authentic historic
events of the era. Production will begin this summer. (thefutoncritic)
Apr
21: My View Response: Got a
great email from Zenophite today concerning my latest News Notes Post yesterday. It was
chastising me about not sharing their political views.
Accused me of being a conservative guilty of listening to Rush
Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Hey, guilty as charged. I listen to the
truth. The email was great though. Feel free to drop me one. If you don't agree with my views
to the point that it pisses you off maybe you should view your news somewhere else.
I deliver the daily news with my opinions attached to it. I don't pull
the punches. There are plenty of websites to give you the news in the
same stagnant fashion. I may spell words incorrectly here and there,
or use grammar incorrectly. It's me. It my style, my views, my way. It
will continue.
Apr
21: Impossible Moss: Carrie
Ann Moss (Matrix) has been cast to star opposite Tom Cruise in the
upcoming Mission Impossible 3. Fans of Ving Rhames will be happy to
learn that he will be returning as Luther Stickel.
Apr
21: 21 Jump Street:
Paramount is a go for a 21 Jump Street feature. Fast and the Furious
director Neal H. Moritz will be running the show for the studio.
Apr
21: Deathlok: Paramount
Pictures is offering the comic turned action flick Deathlok to
Punisher director Jonathan Hensleigh. If he isn't interested then
Paramounts other project, Naked Jungle could be his.
Apr
21: TV Land & Friends: In
an unprecedented move TV Land will air nothing from 9pm to 10pm in
honor of the Friends NBC finale on Thursday May 6th. Whomever tunes in
to TV Land will simply find a camera on a group of TV Land staffers
who will be watching Friends on NBC.
Apr
21: Flash Gordon: Stephen
Sommers (Van Helsing, Deep Rising, The Mummy) was planning to script
and direct a remake of Flash Gordon after Van Helsing. Plans may be
changing however. If Van Helsing is the big hit, as expected, Sommers
could be doing Van Helsing 2 instead. Flash Gordon would then fall
into someone elses hands.
Apr
20: Galactica: Production on
the new Battlestar Galactica series finally begins production this
week in Vancouver, BC. Look for the series to begin airing in early
2005.
Apr
20: Starship Troopers 2: The
DVD is coming, but it is also airing on Encore's action channel April
24th at 10pm. The cast includes Richard Burgi (The Sentinel), Colleen
Porch, Bill Brown and Ed Quinn. ST: Hero of the Federation will air
seven times from April 24th to May 28th. CLICK
HERE for the listing of times on Encore.
Apr
20: Punisher: The new Thomas
Jane/ John Travolta action flick opened in second place this weekend
earning a decent $14 million dollars. The Punisher opened on 300 less
screens than Kill Bill 2. Not bad for a film with a budget of
about $30 million. Hellboy took in $5.7 million keeping the film
in fourth place over the weekend.
Apr
20: Spy Hunter: John Woo is in
the running to direct the new Spy Hunter feature starring Dwayne, The
Rock, Johnson.
Apr
20: The New Batmobile: An
anonymous source revealed to Cinescape online that the new Batmobile,
which is horrible looking, is an actual working vehicle. It reportedly
has been tested at a Military defense site and is capable of 160 miles
per hour, and the jet pack on the back is actually operational. CGI on
the film is being kept to a minimum.
Apr
20: Kill Bill 2: The second
part of Kill Bill was the number one film at the box office over the
weekend beating out Hellboy and the Punisher with a taking of $25.5
million.
Apr
20: News Notes: Spain is
pulling out of Iraq (Pussies!), Saw John Kerry Sunday on Meet the
Press... What a fucking idiot. The Democraps should be so proud.
Barry, The Juice, Bonds has hit his sixth drug induced homer this
week. Have a shot for me Barry! The Yankee's lost 3 of 4 at Boston.
A-Rod when 0 for 16 in said series. Cincinnati made a super-stupid
move trading cry baby Corey Dillion to the New England Patriot. A team
they have to get passed so they can get to the Superbowl.... oh,
forget that, they aren't going to the Superbowl. A Thank you
goes to the news outlets for not letting us see any of the good things
happening in Iraq. If you think it's all bad over there, you're the
fucking idiot now. A Pennsylvania woman kills her 2 kids. Will likely
be another temporarily insane plea. We should be cooking the bitch in
the chair regardless. It's no excuse. College kids Clarett and
Williams have been declared ineligible for the NFL draft. A moron of a
mother is suing Coors beer for her 19 year old son's drunk driving
accident which took his life. Maybe she should be going after whoever
supplied the 19 year old with the booze, or blame her son for driving
drunk maybe. Another woman is suing Haribo, a German candy company,
after the stupid bitch ate a pound of sticky candy and got sick. A
pound of candy? Jeez, what a dope!
Apr
20: V: The Series on DVD: Fans
of the dismal series, based on the two hit mini-series, are getting
their series on DVD come July 27th for a mere $39.98. The three disc
set will include all 19 episodes with Digital 1.0 mono. It's amazing
the series is coming to DVD. Don't expect to many extras with the
boxed set. For the price... who needs extras.
Apr
20: Hellboy DVD: Do not
purchase the first release of the Hellboy DVD when it hits stores. A
second 3-disc special edition will follow with an additional 20
minutes added to the film plus a ton of extras. The first version
should hit retailers around August, with the Special Edition following
in December.
Apr
16: Buffy/Angel Telefilms:
Even though UPN and Fox have passed on picking up the WB's canceled
Angel series Warner Bros. has been impressed with the fans support to
keep the series alive. So much so that they have talked with Joss
Whedon about doing up to six telefilms around the Buffy/Angel universe
next season. Warner knows that such a venture with this franchise
brings in a guaranteed audience.
Apr
16: Wonderfalls: According to
E online the executives at Warner Bros. are planning to review and
episode of Fox's canceled Wonderfall series along with its pilot. They
are considering the series for their fall line-up.
Apr
16: X-Men 3: On the cusp of
breaking up with her husband, John Stamos, Rebecca Romjin has told the
Sci-Fi Wire that she will be returning for the third X-Men feature,
even though she hasn't seen a script yet.
Apr
16: Malkovich Turns Hitchhiker:
John Malkovich has joined the cast of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
The part he will play was created just for the film, and is not part
of the Douglas Adams novel.
Apr
14: Tekwar: The William
Shatner series is heading to DVD for $29.95. It's a Canadian only
release, but you can purchase the item from Amazon.com. Check it out
now. The set is the 18 episodes, but does not include the telefilms.
Apr
14: Walker Storming:
Paul Walker is rumored to be the top candidate to take on the roll of
Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four feature. Also to be
rumored for roles are Michael Chiklis (The Commish) as The Thing and
Tim Robbins as Dr. Doom. Superherohype.com
is rumoring that bodybuilder Ralf Moeller (Gladiator, Conan the
Series) has been cast for a role in the film. Moeller would make an
interesting Dr. Doom or The Thing.
Apr
14: Where's Crusoe on Mars:
Paramount continues to release crap onto DVD, with no sign of the
classic feature Robinson Crusoe on Mars heading to disc anytime soon.
Paramount will however release stuff like "Big Top Pee Wee"
and "Crazy People". Crusoe on Mars starred Paul Mantee, Vic
Lunden and a few brief segments with Batman's Adam West. Filmed
in 1963, the effects are true B style, but the overall film is
outstanding. It is well acted and the direction by Byron Hasken is
superb. Crusoe's last release was a Criterion Cut of the film on
Laserdisc with cast photos, script and more. A sought after
collectible still selling for over $250 on eBay - when you can find
it. The feature still air in Pan and Scan on the pay cable channels.
The Criterion cut is outstanding.
Apr
14: The Triangle: Farscape
creator Rockne S. O'Bannon has been hired by Dean Devlin and Bryan
Singer to script their "The Triangle" project for the Sci-Fi
Channel.
Apr
14: Romjin Dumps Spouse: Rebecca
Romjin Stamos has dumped her husband of five years, John Stamos (who
starred in Full House). To bad, they were a great couple.
Apr
14: Spiderman 2: Sony Pictures
is working hard to promote the new Spiderman feature. The first film
racked up over $800 million world wide, so Sony hopes the this one
will do just as well. They are spending over $100 million to promote
the Spiderman Sequel.
Apr
13: Mutant
X: The upcoming finale for
Mutant X will be changing the lives of everyone on the series for next
season. Victoria Pratt has an offer on the table for season four, but
the actress hasn't decided if she will return for another
season. What is she going to do? B movies? Pratt has 2525 under
her belt and Mutant X. While beautiful, the actress isn't an acting
juggernaut in the least.
Apr
13: Star Wars: Fans don't seem
to really give a shit if they'll ever get the first three films in
their original theatrical release based on current pre-order sales for
the special editions. Pre-orders for the trilogy have actually outsold
all expectations at such places as Amazon.com. The trilogy will
include a 150 minute documentary about the making of the films.
Apr
13: Smallville: It's not
unexpected, but it is about time the WB officially renewed Smallville
for it's fourth season. Smallville's ratings are down to 5.1 from the
6's it rated last season, but have increased the WB's Wednesday
timeslot ratings from last year. Young Superman made the move to
Wednesdays this season after airing on Tuesday nights during the shows
first two years.
Apr
10: Black
Widow: Lions Gate Entertainment is developing a
feature film based on the Marvel Comic book character. X-Men producer
David Hayter is in talks to script as well as make his directorial
debut with this espionage thriller. The project is envisioned as a low
budget film set in during the Cold War. Black Widow centers on
KGB-trained Russian spy Natasha Romanoff, who becomes the Black Widow
after the death of her husband. (IGN Filmforce.com) This is a
down the road picture if Hayter gets the greenlight.
Apr
10: Dursley's Out: The
Dursley's opening segment from the Potter books/ films will NOT be
making an appearance in the Goblet of Fire. The book is already to
long for a feature film, and some things had to be cut. I was
getting tired of them already. See ya, Uncle Vernon. You wonder
just how good the film can really be after reading the third book.
What exactly do you remove and still keep it good?
Apr
10: No Mars For Rodgriguez:
Robert Rodgriguez may have stabbed himself in the foot. The
director recently quit the directors guild so that he could co-direct
Sin City with creator Frank Miller. Co-directing is not allowed by the
guild. While being cocky to get around the rules work for Sin City, it
won't work for directing duties on the Princess of Mars. Rodriguez
recently signed on to direct the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel.
Unfortunately Paramount is a member of the DGA, and cannot hire a
director who is NOT a member - which Rodriguez no longer is. Robert Rodriguez has no intention of rejoining the guild once he
completes Sin City. Thus, options for the director could become...
limited. Needless to say Rodriquez WILL NOT be helming A Princess of
Mars.
Apr
10: Punisher 2: He Ain't Heavy, He's Dead:
That's not the title of the sequel, but actor Thomas Jane, who plays
the Punisher, is onboard for the sequel. Says the actor, "We are
going to do at least one more." Jane knew about the sequel going
in, but wanted to make sure he was challenged and had a good time
doing the first film before committing to it. (moviehole.net)
Apr
10: More Bacon Anyone: Actor
Kevin Bacon (Tremors, Quicksilver, Footloose) has joined the cast of
the Barbarshop 2 spin-off. Bacon joins Queen Latifah, Alicia
Silverstone (Batman Forever), Mena Suvari, Djimon Hounsou, and Lil' JJ.
Need to see Kevin Bacon in an action flick.
Apr
10: New 007 Rumor: What about
the politically challenged Australian actor Heath Ledger (Roar) as
James Bond? That the latest anyways. The producers might be looking to
take James Bond to a younger audience. Sorry folks, Orlando Bloom has
already been shot down for the Bond part.
Apr
10: No Horny For Clooney:
Kevin Smith is indeed attempting to get Jet Li to play the role of
Kato in his upcoming Green Hornet flick. However Smith isn't
interested in George Clooney for the lead as the Green Hornet. That's too bad. It's actually a role I could see Clooney doing well
with. Where the hell is the Green Lantern?
Apr
10: Tru Calling: The series
will wrap its first season with back to back episodes on Fox April
29th. There is still no word on the series fate. It will likely come
down to Fox deciding if they have something better on the table for
next season. Calling ratings have not been stellar, keeping the series
on the cancellation bubble for most of the season.
Apr
10: Kingdom Busted: The move
to Thursday night was a bust for Kingdom Hospital. it has a dismal
2.6/4 ratings share. Can you say... SEEEEE YAAAA.
Apr 7:
Fantastic Four Gets Its Story:
Barbershop director Tim Story has landed a big job - directing the new
Fantastic Four feature film. Production is slated to begin in August.
Casting is due to begin soon, and location scouting is already
underway.
Apr
7: Bonds Gets Number One:
Barry Bonds got his first drug induced home run of the season in the
S.F. Giants opener yesterday. How many juiced balls will he hit this
season? No, I don't like the Giants, and like Barry Bonds even less.
He doesn't care about the fans at all. Since he's on the juice, he
doesn't care much about the game either.
Apr
7: Barnabus Collins: Warner
Bros. has signed Alec Newman as Barnabus Collins for their upcoming
remake of Dark Shadows (Newman portrayed Paul Atreides in the SFC
mini-series Dune). Also joining the cast is Blair Brown as Elizabeth
Collins Stoddard. (Brown's stats include Altered States & Space
Cowboys)
Apr
7: Earthsea: The new Sci-Fi
Channel mini-series has hired its director in Rob Lieberman. Joining
the directing, but in front of the camera will be Danny Glover (Lethal
Weapon, Predator 2), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), and Kristen Kreuk (Smallville).
Lieberman is a veteran genre director with episodes of The Dead Zone,
Jake 2.0 and The X-Files under his belt.
Apr
7: Babylon 5, Season 5: 22
uncut episode in a six disc boxed set. The msrp for the set is an
unimpressive $99.95, but fans can pick the set up online or at Costco
in the $65.oo price range. Look for it on shelves April 13th, and
hopefully SCIFI2K.COM will be giving away a few sets as we have the
first four seasons.
Apr
7: Casino Royale: Quentin
Tarantino told the Sci-Fi Wire that has talked with Pierce Brosnan
about adapting Casino Royale as his fifth and final appearance as
James Bond. The largest hurdle is for Tarantino. He must convince the
snobby producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to divert from
their expensive, yet stagnant handling of James Bond. This is
beyond the fact that the producers do NOT want an American behind the
camera for any of the Bond films. Tarantino wants to do a $40 million
bond picture rather than a money eating $100+ million production.
Casino Royale was originally a comedy, but would be turned around into
a James Bond style affair.
Apr
7: Han Solo's Blaster?: Want
to own Han Solo's Blaster from Star Wars? Couldn't afford it right?
What about a working replica? Yeah?! CooperOwen.com
has one for auction along with a replica of Luke Skywalker's
lightsaber from Return of the Jedi and many more collectible items.
Click the link to check out the auction and bid on your piece of
history today.
Apr
7: C.S.I. Hits the Top: After
a two-week absence for basketball, C.S.I. on Thursday night returned
to its number one spot in the ratings with an impressive 16.2/25
rating. C.S.I. Miami was also in the top ten for the week.
Apr
7: Dungeons II: Joel Silvers
Pictures is teaming up with Worldwide Pictures to produce the sequel
to Dungeons and Dragons. Warner Bros. pictures has picked up the
rights to distribute the film in the states and selected international
markets. Director Gerry Lively is set to helm the picture in Europe. (moviehole.net)
Apr
7: Police Academy 8: Anyone
besides me enjoy this comedy franchise? Even after seven films it has
some comedy appeal. Bubba Smith, who played Hightower in the series
believes an eighth feature could happen sometime this year. Producers
are attempting to bring back the original cast for another go around.
It it happens it could be headed for theaters and not just a direct to
video deal. It's not like Steve Guttenberg, since his acting career
petered out, has anything else going on. (moviehole.net)
Apr
7: Next Bond?: Rumors are
floating that Pierce Brosnan will not be back for the next film. He
isn't interested in returning and supposedly has been bought out of
his contract to do the next film. Hey, it's all rumor right? What about the next Bond?
Rumors abound there as well. The
latest is that it will be an Australian. Hugh Jackman appears to the
front runner, with a mention that, though unlikely, a 45+ year old Mel
Gibson could be asked to take on the role. Imagine Jackman getting the
role of Bond, Playing Wolverine and taking on monsters in a trilogy as
Van Helsing. That would be incredible.
Apr 6:
Sci-Fi Channel Slate: Check out
the latest projects in development at the Sci-Fi Channel by Click
Here and heading over to the Channel News area.
Apr 5:
Wonder Falls: Fox has canceled the
struggling series Wonderfalls after just 4 episodes. The ratings
challenged series just wasn't able to find its audience. There are
still nine unaired episodes in the series. It is unknown if Fox will
burn them off in the summer. The Sci-Fi Channel could end up with them
as well.
Apr
5: Farscape: The Sci-Fi
Channel (we use that term loosely these days) has finally announced
the Farscape mini-series titled, Farscape: Peacekeeper War. The mini
will air during the fourth quarter of this year.
Apr
5: Hellboy: The opening
weekend of Hellboy was a success. The new film took in just $23.5
million, but was still the number one picture in theaters over the
weekend.
Apr
5: Scooby Sucks: The new
sequel to Scooby Doo could be the flop it was predicted to be. The
feature fell off 49% at the box office this week but still took in
just over $15 million.
Apr
5: Alias: Jennifer Garner is
telling everyone that Alias will be back for its fourth season in the
fall. ABC however is keeping quiet about the shows status.
Apr 2:
No Buck or Wilma For Rogers DVD: Gil
Gerard and Erin Gray were to have done commentary and extras for the
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century DVD release. The deal has fallen
through and Universal will not be using them. If this would have
increased the boxed price then fans don't need it. Hopefully Universal
will just digitally repair the episodes and release them without all
the hoopla - which means a higher price.
Apr
2: Black Jack Savage: Anyone
remember this one? The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage survived just
nine episodes on NBC from Disney Presents in 1991, starring Steven
Williams and Daniel Hugh Kelly. 21 Jump Street star Stoney Jackson
played Black Jack Savage in the pilot, which Williams portrayed in the
series. What is unique about the series is that this was the
early work of the Glenn Morgan and James Wong team. were a writing
team on the series, The Commish, 21 Jump Street and it's spawn series
Booker, The X-Files, Millenium, The Others, and were the Creators of
Space Above & Beyond on Fox. Some of the episodes of Black Jack
Savage are still floating around today.
Apr
2: Hatching Galactica: Richard
Hatch is in final negotiations to appear in the new Battlestar
Galactica series to play a Nelson Mandela-like character for just one
episode. He would have made a great semi-regular cast member as one of
the older pilots training the recruits.
Apr
2: Knowles knows Mars: Harry
Knowles, the creator of Ain't It Cool News will be co-producing
Paramount Pictures, Princess of Mars. The feature based on the Edgar
Rice Burrough's novel series John Carter of Mars.
Apr
2: Sharkey's Machine: The 1981
feature Sharkey's Machine was probably one of Burt Reynolds best
films. Now Warner Bros. has decided to remake this film. Does
Hollywood do anything original anymore, other than comicbook
superheros. This one, like all the others, will be updated and set in

2: Shark Tale: After the
Italic Institute of America complained that DreamWorks' upcoming
"Shark Tale" depicted Italians poorly -- as evil sharks with
ties to the mob -- the studio changed one character's name from Don
Brizzi to Don Feinberg. But that was just the beginning. According to
the AP, John Mancini, founder of the Institute says, "We
want character names identified as Italian dropped, the mannerisms,
the forms of speech should be dropped. If they choose to make them
Jewish or Rastafarians, we don't like that either, but our bag is
Italians." (zap2it.com) All the politically correct
bullshit is just that... BULLSHIT. When you attack a cartoon for
characters names and forms of speech you have a mental problem. The
mob has always been associated with these types of names and speech.
Now, after 50 or 60 years it's a stereo type? Get the fuck outta here.
I don't associate everyone who talks like that with the mob. It's time to grow up people. Knock this shit off!
Don't make me
rub you out.

fall that is. It's Thursday night premiere opened only to bomb as it
has since its premiere. The series, despite being very good, cannot
find an audience on Fox. It is doomed.
Apr 1:
Enterprise 4: UPN has greenlit season
4 of Enterprise. The catch however is that UPN doesn't believe the
series will resurrect itself. They have given the series just a 12
episode commitment for its fourth season. The new action added
to the series this season has helped the show which is currently
pitted against the half-hour send off episode of American Idol - which
is tops in its time slot. The WB's Smallville airs during the same
hour, but UPN has moved the series to the 9pm timeslot. While
Enterprise currently airs against Angel during the 9pm hour, Angel has
already received its walking papers. Should Enterprise do well
enough, it could earn the remaining 12 episodes.

1: Century City: CBS has
canceled the futuristic lawyer series, Century City after just four
episodes. The series was fourth in its timeslot, and has been airing
opposite American Idol. Century City followed the futuristic medical
series from UPN, Mercy Point.

1: DVD Pricing: Seasonal
boxed sets of our favorite series are coming out almost daily now. The
pricing however is all over the place, even when it comes down to the
studios. Columbia/Tri-star aka Sony released the Starsky & Hutch
season one set for right around $50 (got mine for $37.95 at Wallmart).
The same studio previously release the syndicated series Forever
Knight at $79.95 for the first season. Why? Is the damn thing gold
plated or something? It wasn't even as popular as Starsky & Hutch.
That, mixed with the price assures Sony that sales aren't going to be
the high. Some sort of pricing needs to be set on the season boxed
sets. For around $40 I'll be a several series, and when they hit $60
or more I don't need any series that bad. S.W.A.T.'s 13 episode first
season has an SRP of $29.95. Does that mean a full season will be
$59.95? It was decent series, but not for sixty bucks. Charge less,
sell more. Hello? Anyone out there listening? Doubtful...
