DEC  2K4

Dec 30: Enterprise: Manny Coto is still holding out all hope that the ratings challenged series will be around for a fifth season. He would plan to explore the founding of the Federation should that happen. UPN has had some great feedback from fans but the ratings for Enterprise are worse on Friday nights than they were on Wednesdays. But! There has some good news... The UPN ratings for Friday nights are better with Enterprise than without it.

Vala's return will coincide with Amanda Tappings departure to have her baby during the shows ninth season.

Dec 27: Dead Like Sci-Fi: MGM doesn't want their second year show "Dead Like Me" to fall by the waste side like Odyssey 5. Thing is, who do you offer it to? What network will take a show that's been in production for two-years already? This isn't like a network show moving from one regular network to another. The only network is the Sci-Fi Channel, and that is who MGM is offering the show to. The network recently turned its back on Odyssey 5, Witchblade and their own hit series "Farscape". The only thing that might make the show viable for the network is its cost per episode value. The Sci-Fi Channel should make their decision pretty quick.

Dec 26: Star Wars TV: Things continue to move forward on the Star Wars television series. IESB has confirmed that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) will be involved in the new series as... Luke Skywalker. Kevin Smith is still slated to direct the pilot. It's unknown what network will put up the necessary funds to carry the show, but more could be done with the series on HBO or Showtime. (moviehole.net)

Millennium's second season is the series best thanks to the writing/directing team of James Wong and Glenn Morgan. I just finished the DVD set for review and Fox TV has created a great package. Millennium is presented in 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

Dec 25: Browder's Already Known: Ben Browder's Stargate SG-1 character is already well known in the Stargate universe, the fans just haven't met the man yet. That is how his character will be introduced into the SG-1 team for season nine. The series moves into a new direction in season nine bringing in new villain and anything else they need to keep the show fresh while still maintaining the core concept of the series. Season 8 will tie up a bunch of storylines that have opened the past several years that fans should be happy with.  How does Browder get woven into the show? They'll be using flashbacks of course.

Dec 25: MI3 Delayed Again: Does anyone really give a shit if Tom Cruise gets off his ass and makes this film or not? Who cares anymore... The film has been delayed until September for yet another rewrite by J.J. Abrams. Tom Cruise had better hit this film while he still has some box office appeal. His last film Collateral was good, but it wasn't a box office bananza.

Dec 25: Harry Potter 6: The new novel is already a best seller and the damn thing isn't even out yet. The Half-Blood Prince has already toping the sales charts and the books still six months away. The third film at the box office has grossed $249 million at the U.S. Box Office.

Dec 25: Fathom Meets the Abyss: In the vein of James Cameron's "The Abyss" comes a pilot from NBC Universal for "Fathom" about mysterious creatures that live in the deep of the ocean.

Dec 20: X-Men In A Spin... Off: It's already been announced that solo films for "Wolverine" and "Magneto" are in the works. Fox is also considering the solo treatment for Mystique (Rebecca Romjin) and Storm (Halle Berry) Storm is being written into the third film. It could be just a cameo or expanded on if Barry wants to return or they may simply recast the role, which I would enjoy. (Moviehole.net)

Dec 20: Blade Is The Bomb: The third and final installment for Wesley Snipes as Blade is tanking at the box office. In its second week of release the feature has fallen to number five at the box office taking in just $6.6 million over the weekend.

The 174 minute mini will hit retailers February 15th thanks to Lion's Gate. The list price is $19.99, but it should be easy enough to find in the $15.oo price range if you want it. Speaking of mini-series, where the hell is "Creature" and "Beast" from Peter Benchley? Now these were good mini-series.

Press the 'Enter' key now and you will see a one minute featurette of Jennifer Garner talking about the loneliness her character, Sydney Bristow, goes through during season three.

Dec 19: Believe It, Or Not: To show fans how desperate the network is for cheap programming The Sci-Fi Channel has bought the rebroadcast rights to the TBS series, "Ripley's Believe It Or Not", which starred Superman's Dean Cain.

Dec 19: Coming in a Flash: David Goyer, Blade: Trinity, has finally made expectations a reality. He will write, produce and direct a feature film based on DC Comics "The Flash". Warner Bros has had the Flash in development for a long time, and this will be Goyer's first for the studio under his new production deal with the studio. Goyer has already expressed his interest in Ryan Reynolds to star as The Flash.

Dec 19: Thomas Covenant: The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is leaping from the novels to the big screen thanks to Revelstone Entertainment and the Mark Gordon Co. They have purchased the feature rights to the first six novels in the fantasy series from writer Stephen Donaldson. Peter Winther will direct a script from Band of Brothers writer John Orloff.

"The 007 Days of Christmas" will feature films which starred Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. There was also one 007 feature that starred George Lazenby. You could just purchase the James Bond boxed sets and not have to put up with the hours and hours of commercial breaks.

Dec 19: Wonder Woman: Joss Whedon looks to be the man to write and direct the forever in development project "Wonder Woman". He first choice for the lead... Charisma Carpenter. Yep a Ex-Buffy player. The man just cannot walk away from the actors/actresses that made him famous. Her Playboy appearance may have hurt her chances with the producers. (ContactMusic.com)  Why? Who the hell knows.

Dec 19: Point Pleasant: The supernatural series is getting its premiere date on Fox moved up to January 19th and 20th following American Idol. The peaceful existence of a small seaside community will change forever when Christina Nickson (Elisabeth Harnois) is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page) and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi). The Kramers, including Ben's wife Meg (Susan Walters) and daughter Judy (Aubrey Dollar), take an instant liking to Christina and invite her to stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother – a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. (FutonCritic.com)

Dec 16: Updates: Sorry for the lack of updates. The new position at work has kept me swamped. Hopefully the updates will be more regular.

Dec 16: Stargate Nails Farscaper: Ben Browder is moving on from under the Farscape envelope to join to the cast of Stargate SG-1, which will enter its 9th season next year. MGM is still attempting to get Richard Dean Anderson to remain on the show in some capacity. Fans of Stargate can look for the remaining new episodes beginning in January when the SFC features the new Battlestar Galactica starting Jan. 21st. (Thanks to Tom Stong)

Dec 16: Hellraiser: The feature film franchise is looking to bring its scary theme to television in a new series. Two direct to video features should be in the can by now as Panacea Entertainment, Park Avenue Entertainment and Blueprint Entertainment work the TV deal. Larry Kuppin of New World Entertainment will produce the hour long series. That is a crap-load of Entertainment behind the project.

Dec 13: X-Men Spin-off: There's another spin-off in the works from the X-Men feature franchise. Fist, the anticipated Wolverine feature, then an interested in a Storm spin-off and now... Magneto, the Ian McKellen character. 20th Century Fox has already hired screenwriter Sheldon Turner to pen a new script. David Benioff, who wrote Troy, is scripting Wolverine.

Dec 13: LOST Rocks: The ABC series continues to dominate Wednesday nights with an 11.4/18 share rating. The new drama brings to mind the essence of hit HBO series. It's that good.

Dec 13: Enterprise DVDs: Paramount has designed a nice looking storage case for the Enterprise DVD boxed sets which begin release on May 2005. A new season will be released about every two months until the four seasons are completed. The Digital Bits website has a wonderful photo of the new set.

Dec 13: Blade Can't Cut It: The weekend premiere of Blade was able to pass the sequel to Ocean's 11. Despite a weak storyline fans flocked to the familiar faces of Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Blade: Trinity grossed $16.1 million over the weekend and a total of $24.5 million since the films Wednesday opening. This third and final film in the franchise has cost $65 million to produce.

Dec 12: Shadows Changing: Warner Bros may be forcing Winchester Films to make some... dreadful news. Dennis Kristo, the Media Info Liason, of the mid-west B5 mailing list sent in an interesting scoop.  Warner Bros. appears interested in recasting the original roles for the new Memory of the Shadows feature. Most of the cast are older and the WB is huge on the "20 Something" crowd. Just take a look at the shows currently running on their network. Could you imagine the morons the WB would select for these roles? Wow. Are you a Babylon 5 fan? Want the original actors back? Well let them know in a writing campaign. Here's the address... Babylon 5: Memory of the Shadow, Warner Bros. Films, 4000 Warner Blvd., Burbank Ca. 91522.  Remember this though, these actors from the original show are not youngsters anymore. If an action star like the Swartzenegger, who's still built like a young man, can't bring in a decent box office anymore - how do you expect a group of 45+ actors to do it. Warner & Winchester want the film to do well and make money. Making money means more features. Some roles need to be recast.

Dec 12: Young Blades: This news, also from Dennis Kristo, affects the Babylon 5 universe. The new $20 million "Young Blades" series (once reported to have been scrapped) has hired Bruce Boxleitner as Captain Duvall, the head of the King's Muskateers. Joining him in the series is Michael Ironside. He'll once again take on the role of the villain as Cardinal Mazarin. Filming in the backlots of Vancouver, Canada "Young Blades" follows the exploits of The Three Muskateers as sword-in-training during the 17th Century.

Dec 12: DVDs Are Out: Carnivale, Smallville Season 3, Ulimate Matrix and Babylon 5's Cruade are now available on DVD. Get yours today.

Dec 11: Return of U.N.C.L.E.?: Mathew Vaughn is currently negotiating to helm a feature film version of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.".

Dec 11: Memory of the Shadows: Production Weekly reports that Babylon 5: Memory of the Shadows is set to begin lensing in April 2005. Steven Beck will helm the project from a script written by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Stracynski. There is a techno-mage named Galen in the film which appears to be the character from the series Babylon 5: Crusade.

Dec 11: Blade Money: The third Blade film looks to be opening to a Wednesday take of just $5.5 million. The film cost $65 million to create.

Dec 11: Logan's Run: Now 30 is over the hill for the future. The remake of Logan's Run will have young people terminating at 21. Bryan Singer is planning to infuse more action meshed with more of the actual novel.

Dec 11: Tracy Lords: The porn actress turned "B" star, Tracy Lords,  is looking to nab a cameo role in the hit comedy series "Will & Grace". Lords has appeared in the third season of "First Wave" and Stephen King's mini-series Tommyknockers.

Dec 8: New Galactica Update: NBC has decided it wants in on the new Battlestar Galactica series from the Sci-Fi Channel. The reviews out of the United Kingdom have been very good and NBC has taken notice. The network will help its fledgling child by Airing the pilot mini-series on Saturday, January 8th. The airing comes just six days before the new series premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel January 14th. BUT... yes there is a but. NBC will re-edit the mini-series into a three hour block (counting commercials) so that it does not alter the networks primetime schedule.

Dec 8: Wolverine: Here's a movie that might be in search of a director. With Bryan Singer wasting his talents on a Superman feature no one wants to really see Wolverine and the X-Men have been left flopping around in the breeze. Cinescape is reporting that helmer Len Wiseman has been approached to direct the new Woverine feature scheduled to begin with the wrap of X-Men 3. Where do you know that name from. Wiseman is the man who directed the incredible Underworld feature and is currently directing the sequel.

Dec 8: Iron Man Doomed: If the rumors are try then the X-Men feature could have taken a rusted look heading to the dumpster. Justin Timberlake may be headed for the lead role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. This is something no fan of the comic book ever wanted to hear.

Dec 6: Battlestar Galactica: The first season has completed production and the episodes are currently airing in the United Kingdom. U.S. fans won't get the first episode for several weeks. The sets are still standing in anticipation of the show renewal for a second season. Should the series get picked up with the first three or four weeks of U.S. airings production on the second season will begin on February18th. The Sci-Fi channel is worried about the internet and the information getting air time about each episode. They believe that it could effect the ratings for each episode. Bad word of mouth and fans could skip an episode. Battlestar Galactica is filmed in Vancouver at the Lion's Gate Studio. Renewal chances? Very good.

Dec 5: Chameleon: Looks like the Xanth novels from writer Piers Anthony could be coming to big screen near us in the future. Tim McCanlies, who wrote the awesome script for "Secondhand Lions" has be tapped to create the screenplay for the first book in the Xanth novels, "A Spell For Chameleon".

Dec 5: Sub Mariner: Harry Potter director Chris Columbus has agreed to helm the new Marvel feature over at Universal Studios. Columbus will direct "Sub Mariner" (may be titled NAMOR" from a script by David Self, hopefully better than his Road to Perdition effort.

Dec 5: Space Above & Beyond: The folks over at "The Digital Bits" have confirmed from 20th Century Fox that "Space: Above & Beyond" is indeed on their slate for a 2005 release to DVD in a seasonal boxed set. They do NOT however have a set date for the boxed set release.

Dec 5: More Alien Desires: The 55 year old Sigourney Weaver is an Alien promo machine all by herself. In a recent talk with zap2it.com the actress was heard saying she thinks doing another film would be fun. She doesn't think any studio is going to move forward with an Alien film starring a 55 year old actor, but it would be ok with the fans. Weaver also went on to say that if Ridley Scott stamped his foot a few times Fox would greenlight another film. Blah, blah, blah blah, blah and blah blah blah.

Dec 5: G-Force: Jerry Bruckheimer put his name on Kangaroo Jack, so he's done some shit flicks. This time he'll put it on a new Disney film titled "G-Force" about a bunch of super-intelligent commando animals ordered to stop an evil billionaire from taking over the world. Wow, how original is this for a Disney G-rated film.

Dec 5: John Doe Returns: At least this time Dominic Purcell, John Doe, will know who he is in a new series pilot titled "Prison Break". Feature Film helmer Brett Ratner  is in place to produce and direct the pilot that's been on hold for more than a year. Purcell will play a death row inmate who professes his innocence. Since the court system is apparently ineffective, it's up to his engineer brother (Wentworth Miller) to get placed in the prison to orchestrate a plan to help him escape. The series charts the prison break over the course of a season. The pilot is written by Paul Scheuring, who wrote the script for "A Man Apart".

Dec 5: Two Blade DVDs: David Goyer is already planning to tap into the DVD market with "Blade: Trinity" Fans will get the theatrical release and real fans of the Blade franchise will get the director's cut that will be 11 minutes longer and feature a darker, alternate ending. Yahooooo! Gotta love the director's cuts.

Dec 5: Darkside: Fox is attempting to get into the Science Fiction market again with a new series titled "Darkside". The network has ordered a pilot script for the proposed series. Of course the new series will be a darker side of ABC's hit series "LOST" in space.  Variety described the premise of DARKSIDE as The story concerns a team of astronauts that discover a mysterious SOS signal emanating from the dark side of the moon. After traveling to the night side of Earth's satellite there they discover a structure of unknown origin. This sounds pretty good.

Dec 5: Evil Dead 4: Raimi keeps talking about it, but he isn't doing much about it. An Evil Dead 4? Despite the remake of the original Rami plans to return of Evil Dead in a fourth film that will star Bruce Campbell. But this won't happen until he's done creating new Spiderman films.

Dec 5: Wonder Woman a Duke: The original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, will be flying her invisible airplane down to Hazzard County for a stint on the new feature film based on the old series "Dukes of Hazzard". Carter will play the girlfriend of Jesse Duke.

Dec 5: Dr. Who: A new teaser is currently available on the world wide web for the new BBS series "Dr. Who". CLICK HERE  for the link to the trailer.

Dec 5: No Daredevil: Jennifer Garner is reporting that Daredevil will not be appearing in the feature film "Elektra" as previous mentioned for the last four months or so. Rumor has it the scene with DD and Bullseye was left on the cutting room floor. Maybe we'll see on the DVD if a director's cut is done.

Dec 5: Warcraft: Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft" was blown away by the total number of sales for the new multi-player online RPG. They expected the game to do well, but not in the neighborhood of 240,000 copies in the first 24 hours. In just nine days 350,000 copies have been sold. Servers have been strained with the online demand. At one point there were over 100,000 online players spread out over Blizzard's servers.

Dec 5: It's the Fog: The remake project from Revolution Studios has found its director in Rupert Wainwright who directed the crappy Stigmata feature. Production is slated to begin in March of 2005.

Dec 1: Amazing Spiderman: Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan are in the earliest stages of writing the third and possibly final Spiderman in the franchise - at least with this cast and director. Raimi hasn't decided on the villains just yet but his next favorites are "The Vulture" and "Craven". Two very familiar villains in the world of Spiderman.

Dec 1: Trio in Trouble: A small fan favorite network on satellite is in trouble. The Trio network, own now and operated by NBC Universal will be dropped from DirecTV at the end of the year. NBC Uni was already looking into discontinuing the network, so the decision by DirecTV works for them. The move will cut Trio's audience from 20 million to just 8 million possible viewers.

Dec 1: An Iron Dud?: Fans have to worry when a director not know for his action/adventure film status is hired to helm such a project. Remember the HULK? Whew! Director Nick Cassavettes has been hired by Newline to helm the Iron Man project. Cassavettes has directed "The Notebook" and "John Q" neither movie was that good and both were overrated.

Dec 1: Enterprise DVD: The folks over at "The Digital Bits" have some great images of the new case that will house the first season of Enterprise. The photos are for the Region 2 set, but the word has it the set is also what the US will get.

Dec 1: Stupid Brothers 3: You can't touch the original "Blues Brothers" and they did attempt and shit sucking sequel. Now comes word that a third film may be in the works from Dan Aykroyd and James Belushi. Sometimes you have to say enough is enough and leave perfection alone. After all they were on a mission from God.

Dec 1: Ghost Hunters: Holy crap Batman! The Sci-Fi Channel has picked up the stupid series Ghost Hunters for a second season of 13 episodes.

Dec 1: HD-DVD: Yeah, it coming. High Definition DVDs. Four studios have jumped on board to support the new dvd format. Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros and New Line will begin making the dvds by the Holidays in 2005. On the other side of the coin MGM and Columbia Tristar (the same company) will support Sony's Blu-ray HD format. Dreamworks is likely to fall in line with the HD-DVD, while Buena Vista is unsure which way it will go. They were fighting for the studios to work on just one format, but that seems out of the question now. HD-DVD looks to have the muscle right now so the Blu-ray could find itself aligned with the old betamax format.
