CULT MOVIES
**** NOTE **** - TVM - indicates a 'Television Movie'
1. C.H.U.D.: 1984 90 min. Stands for Cannabalistic Humoid Undergroud Dwellers. This cheapo 'B' flick I found extremely Entertaining. And for some reason Home Alone's Daniel Stern and John Heard starred. Even John Goodman made an appearance in the movie. This film is from 'Brazil's' Greist. Directed by Douglas Cheek. A band of radio-active humanoids come out of the sewers at night to feed. This movie is listed as a 'BOMB'. Not the bomb, but a bomb. I enjoyed it immensely. And thought it was well done for a 'B'. Released on VHS and Laserdisc. NOTE: Now available on DVD. 2. Killer Klowns From
Outer Space:
3. Rocky Horror Picture Show: 1975 95 minutes: British version is 100 minutes. This is the most popular Cult Picture of all time. People go to movie houses dressed to the teeth to see this picture. Sometimes acting out the scenes on stage along with the movie. Stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf. The is a kinky horror spoof, with lots of sex, a transvestite and some rock music. Directed by Jim Sharman. 4. Phantom of the Paradise: 1974 92 minutes: This one was directed by Brian DePalma and stars Paul Williams, who also wrote the score. Sissy Spacek was the set decorator. Paradise is the rock version of Phantom of the Opera. Considered a bomb during the early days but has become an awesome cult movie. Was released originally as a spoof and was a bomb at the box office. I enjoyed this one too. Was released on VHS and Laserdisc. Out of print in both forms. Continues to air every few months on Pay Cable (showtime, starz, etc) 5. Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park: 1978 TVM 100 minutes. Stars original Kiss members, Ace Freely, Peter Criss, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. This was originally a television movie (TVM). But made it to VHS and is now out of print. Can still be found at the smaller video stores for rental in some areas (that is where I got my copy). Kiss, in their acting debut, must stop a scientist who is trying to clone our heroes for evil purposes. A so cheesey TVM. Directed by Gordon Hessler. 6. Flesh Gordon: 1974 rated a 2.5 stars. Porno version of the famed serial 'Flash Gordon'. Directed by Howard Ziehm, and Michael Benveniste. Stars Jason Williams, Suzanne Fields and John Hoyt. This 'B' adult fllick (they are all 'B' movies) is so funny and done so well with the actors. The claymation of the giant golem is incredible and a crack up. Animation is by Jim Danforth and other special effects pros. This is a must see for the cult fan as well as a true video lover. The movie is rare and hard to find even on the internet. Hard movie to locate in decent quality. A very adult themed Flesh Gordon. Watch out for that sex ray! Oh yeaaaaaaahhhh. Mmmmmmmmm. 7. Surf Nazis' Must Die: 1987, rated 2.5 stars. This film is rated 'R'. The surf nazis are weirdoes who rule the Los Angeles beaches. Directed by Peter George and stars... Barry Brenner, Gail Neely, and Dawn Wildsmith. This one has become a great cult film and is actually not that bad. There is something about it. Don't have dates or actors yet on this one. When I get the information I will post it. 8. The Toxic Avenger: A true 'B' movie. And it even spawned two sequels. 1985 100 minutes. Directed by Michael Herz (directed all three films 2 & 3 were both done in 1989). Story about a 90lb weakling who is transformed into monster who only does good deeds. Not without violence and gore though. A very entertaining 'B' movie. Was released on VHS and Laserdisc. The picture stars, Samuel Well; Andree Miranda; Mitchell Cohen; Jennifer Baptist; Cindy Manion; Robert Prichard; and Mark Torgi. Rated 'R'. 8. Army of Darkness: 1993 80 minutes. Only rated as 2 stars. Out of the ordinary Cult picture since this film starred 'Bruce Campbell', was directed by Sam Raimi, and had a decent budget as well. But 'Army' has a huge following. I believe alot of this is due to 'Bruce Campbell'. The man has a huge fan base. Raimi also put two of his family members in the films... Ted Raimi (seaquest & xena) along with Ivan Raimi. A Cult Movie that is available everywhere.
