Censorship of  the Entertainment Industry

By Scott J. Webster

First off let me convey my condolences to the families of the lost loved ones from the Sept 11 terrorist attack.

That action of violence is being felt across the U.S. But is it really necessary to stop the release of movies just due to the fact that the WTC happened to be in the background of a scene? It isn't a matter of being tasteless or morally wrong, it's just a movie.

Some of the movies I'm referring to are Men in Black 2 and Spiderman. I'm sure there are other movies and computer games that are effected. People shouldn't refuse to see them just because of a scene or two that happened to be filmed along time before the Sept. 11 attack. I just think that if the WTC was in the creative vision of the Director then use the scene and release the film. I can't believe that this country would be so sensitive to think that the eagerly awaited movies would not be hits anyway.

As President Bush says let's continue on with our normal lives. Another question is who pulled these films from being released to be re-shot or changed? Was it the industry, Directors, Producers or some outside source? There are still movies about wars, poverty, corruption and disease, yet these things still happen everyday. Without uncensored entertainment in this country, we all just keep trudging along in our meager little lives.
