The Tick is one of the most underrated animated series on television. It had a following that went from children to college students and even us weird ass adults. The series was fun and over the top thanks to its creator Ben Edlund who drew it for the kids but wrote it to entertain the adults. I had never seen the entire first season until the DVD boxed set landed in my greedy hands, minus episode 11 of course.

While the live action series did not fair so well on Fox going up against Survivor, the animated series did extremely well.

I would not recommend this series for the younger children in any family as they just won't get it. Anyone older could maybe falling off the couch in a mad laughter. This is a great animated series for virtually all ages.

PACKAGING
The packaging looks sweet. The back of the vid cover gives the synopsis for five episodes and lists the others. A poor job done here with no synopsis. There a list included on the inside with all the titles.  The disc looks good too.

VIDEO:
The video
looks good. It's a bit grainy in places and there is some discoloration that forces itself on the viewer, but it's easy enough to ignore. Buena Vista dropped the ball on the transfer though as the series just isn't that old to look like it does.

AUDIO:
The audio transfer is decent. That's it... decent. Don't expect great things here.

BONUS FEATURES:
Here's another area shit on by Buena Vista. There are zero extras for this great series. You know there had to be something.

  • NONE

SUMMARY:
Whew, the price is a bit steep for the 12 episode first season and the quality of the video really makes the pricing outrageous.

While the series is fun and entertaining I can see it being a poor seller for many buyers who want so many different series on DVD.

This is one of the best animated series around the DVD market. If you've got the money to burn you'll like having this material in your collection.

The Tick: Season 1 overall Rating:  C
