Transformers had a
huge following when it first hit the television airwaves. Despite
the cheesey script the animated project is a pretty solid watch for
any age fan. The animation is decent and the colors look really
good. Listening to the familiar voice-overs is pretty neat too. I
was flabbergasted twenty years ago when they killed Optimus Prime
and some of the other familiar characters and oddly enough it stills
bothers me a bit today when I watched the film again. Needless to
say this is the very reason the film did not set with children at
the box office.
The films background
music was awfully pathetic. It was like an annoying radio being on
in the background while the film was going on.
The films first thirty
minutes is pretty kick-ass with the eating of an entire planet, a
huge battle of autobots and the fight that deals the death blow to
Optimus Prime. From there the film begin to peter out and slow down.
It's not kick ass but it's good enough for a peak-a-boo once or
twice.
After twenty-years the
film still looks good and holds up well against today's crappy
attempts at animation. Any real pile of shit could put an ass
whippin' on crap like Spongebob Squarepants.
PACKAGING
The packaging
looks good. The make use of a clear
case and add a hologram card designed like the DVD cover. The back
of the box breaks down what is contained on both discs.
VIDEO:
The video is good. The colors are sharp with minimal bleed. Any dirt
or debris in the vid is minute. The mix of colors on the screen is
eye catching.
AUDIO:
The audio transfer is decent. Despite
getting the wasted 5.1 treatment the sound is just
adequate.
BONUS FEATURES:
Sony and BMG has packed the
DVD's with some serious bonus features to make many movies
jealous.
