Russo, Stuart Wilson, Joss Ackland, and Derrick O'Connor.
This is probably the
best trilogy out there. Even with the fourth film added in the
entire franchise kicks ass. Having the three director's cuts of the
films in a single set is pretty awesome and getting for just $14.95
is even better. I mean come on... most of us moviephiles already had
the original films on disc. Even at $14.95 each I wasn't going to
pay for the films again.
Next to the television
guys from Miami Vice and Starsky & Hutch this is probably the
best cop duo ever created. Gibson and Glover created a fun loving
and entertaining on screen friendship that fans would come to love.
The comedy, the action and entertainment value were top notch.
With the second film
Joe Pesci was added to the mix and instantly turned the franchise
from duo to trio. Pesci would go on to co-star in the three of the
four films.
At their age it's a
thankful time that neither actor is keen to reprise their roles
despite the studios trying to throw $20 million at each of them.
Let's face it, their time has passed in doing a fifth film.
This triple feature having the director's cut of the first three
films is awesome and at just $14.95 (mine for $9.99 at Wall-Mart)
you have to have it.
PACKAGING
The packaging artwork
is great as it's just smaller images
from the original advertising sheets for each film. But it does look
decent. The back give fans a synopsis of the entire franchise and
shows the credits for all three films.
VIDEO:
The video
looks great. The colors are vibrant,
the blacks are dark. There's no bleed or debris on the transfers.
It's a nice double transfer on the
first disc. The studio simply slipped copies of the third film into
the set. It would have been nice had they done the transfer the same
way and included the fourth film to complete the franchise in one
box.
AUDIO:
The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 and it sounds okay. It uses the
speakers a bit and brings you into the films with some decent
playback.
BONUS FEATURES:
Minimal to say the least
- Stunts and Action Featurette for
Lethal 2
- Theatrical Trailers for all
Three films.
SUMMARY:
Again... for just $14.95 a fan can have all three director's cuts
with a good transfer and nice sound. This is a great nap trilogy for
the man lounging around on the couch trying to relax. Stick the
discs into the 5 disc dvd player and kick back for the afternoon.
It's a great shelf
item to mix with the four original films.
