It's really funny as I
work on this review watching the discs and realize that the Sci-Fi
Channel aired some season three episodes this week.
This is actually the
last decent season of Sliders as the series was canceled by Fox and
picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel who hacked the shit out of this
series kicking Jerry O'Connell from the series after the fourth
season.
I never missed an
episode of the first three seasons original broadcasts. It's a fun
series with the same characters dealing with totally different
environment every week. The same planet but a different reality. It
made for a series that was comedic, adventurous as well as
dramatic.
The shows cast played
well off each other creating characters that you could care about
and want to see each week in a new adventure. It was a somewhat
unique concept and very well done.
PACKAGING
Wow! What a piece of shit packaging idea this was. The half designer
slip sleeve is very nice in metallic silver. Unfortunately there is
nothing nice to say after that. The sticker on the back with
the Sliders is already peeling off. The fold out digipack is
absolute crap. It's a rigid plastic that will not stay open. It
tries to close whole your attempting to pull a disc out. There are
four spots holding the disc holders in place and my review copy has
one piece broken. The holders have two discs that overlap. You have
to pull one off to get to the bottom one. It's pure shit. All three
seasonal boxed sets for Sliders suck.
VIDEO:
Video quality is the only good thing about the boxed set. There's
very little debris or dirt throughout the episodes and the colors
are vibrant. There's no bleeding and the images look a bit
soft.
AUDIO:
The sound is not very good for a 2.0 burn. There is a heavy bass in
the voices and special effects. It can be adjusted with the surround
sound but on the television speakers it's garbage.
BONUS FEATURES:
The set vacant of any extra
except for a gag reel, an Earth 2 episode and Cleopatra 2525
episode. There not much for the fan here in this area of the
disc.
SUMMARY:
This is one series that Universal dropped the ball on from the
beginning. Someone at the studio either didn't care about the
product or just hated the show. It's poor quality is unusual today.
This is not a boxed set worth the $60 price tag and totally unfair
to the fans who enjoyed the series.
