The second season was extremely different from the first. It was written better but took the franchise off the beaten path of what fans were told we would get before the second season premiered.  This is the season when fans began to leave the series never to return.

In season two the shows core actors would become more comfortable working together as a crew both on the show and in real life. The acting was much improved and the special effects were top notch. The only lacking material in the show were fresh ideas.

Season Two ended strong and the series would continue to improve. This is a quality boxed set and fans will love it.

PACKAGING
Enterprise's packaging isn't as cool as it looks. The outer case that holds the disc is extremely nice, but reading the season number through the opening on the side sucks. It will be difficult to figure out which one is where on the shelf. The gray box offers no color designation or season information on it. There is a clear case which houses the disc holder and episode booklet. The individual disc holders are held together with a clear plastic tape which allows the holders to open like a book. I do like the hard exterior case for shelf storage and if fans wanted to take the effort a quick color coating over the four raised corner and black numbers could be used to specify the seasons. It would look awesome and make the set unique.

VIDEO:
The digital video quality is feature quality and looks outstanding. It never looked so good on my local UPN Channel. No debris, no dirt and no pixelation - just quality broadcasting at its best.

AUDIO:
The 5.1 rocks, for a television series. Like season one the audio sound excellent and works the channels pretty decent for a TV show. The rear channels are worked out a bit which was impressive.

BONUS FEATURES:
They are minimal and who cares. Just how much bonus material was created for DVD in 80's? Uh... like none maybe. You do get a few things and it's enough.

  • Audio Commentary on several episodes.  by Michael Sussman & Phyllis Strong
  • 15 minute profile on Jolene Blalock
  • Enterprise Secrets
  • 7 minutes with director/actor Levar Burton
  • Inside: A Night in Sickbay

  • Outtakes
  • Enterprise Moments: Season Two
  • Photo Gallery
  • Shooting Future Tense
  • Star Trek: The Original Series DVD Trailer

  • Preview of Star Trek attraction in Las Vegas.

SUMMARY:
The second season boxed set is the same quality as the first season and is still loaded with material that the true fans will enjoy.  What an addition this makes to the collector. What a shame that Paramount and UPN let the show die just when it was getting good.

Enterprise Season 2 Rating:  A
