Season 4 brings
Enterprise and the Star Trek franchise to a close. Rick Berman &
Brannon Braga have hopefully moved on and fans are left with a sour
taste in their mouths with what Star Trek could have become.
Enterprise had the
cast, sets and special effects to be a hit television series. During
the shows final season they just might have had the creative writing
too if not for Berman and Braga's involvement. Enterprise was to
have been Star Trek's dramatic series taking the franchise into a
new direction, but turned out being the same boring material fans
have gotten shoved down their throats for years.
Season 4 is probably
the series best season as far as story lines go. The exception being
the final episode where Tripp is killed for no reason what so ever.
New writers were brought in and it was working, but UPN &
Paramount had already let everyone know it would be the last. The
budget had been cut in half to get one more season. Paramount needed
Enterprise to hit the 100 episode mark to be a viable lease
series.
I was never
disappointed with the quality of the show or the actors who played a
part in the series. It was constantly the stories and writing which
left fans cold and eventually vapor.
PACKAGING
The packaging is the same as the previous boxed sets. The hard
plastic case with see thru blue book style case.
VIDEO:
The digital video quality is again feature quality and despite a
budget cut in half it still looks outstanding. UPN is a shitty
quality channel in my city, so the series never looked so good.
There's no debris, very little dirt
and no pixelation -
it looks great.
AUDIO:
The
5.1 rocks, for a television series.
It's not as good as the series it was suppose to be like in Battlestar Galactica but
it still sound excellent.
The rear channels come into play a little, which is unique in
itself. There is no reason for most television series to be wasted
in Dolby 5.1.
BONUS FEATURES:
There are over 3 hours of bonus materials.
- Enterprise
moments, Season 4
- Inside the "Mirror"
episodes
- Enterprise secrets
- Visual effects magic
- That's a wrap

SUMMARY:
All four season have the quality fans expect in them. They will look
great on your shelf and it won't matter what order you put them
there since you can read the season numbers through the plastic
opening.
Enterprise is better
than most anyone realizes even with the poor writing. It's
entertaining, sounds good and looks great. But just how many can
afford the $520 series price or even the $360 on sale price to put
the series on their shelves.
Paramount has shown
their greed when it comes to the Star Trek franchise and I think
it's hurt brought it down even more. How many more copies and money
in the pocket could Paramount have made selling the sets at $50
each? A lot.
I have been a monster
Trek fan all my life, and Enterprise is the only DVD boxed set for
that franchise on my packed shelf.
