What Happens In Vegas,
Stays In Vegas! Why in the hell would any vacation spot say such a
stupid thing? Hey man, it's not stupid. People come to Las Vegas
with a facade of who and what they are. It's a chance to step away
from the druthers of real life. The adults
playground for the world. Where else can one go to lose everything
you own, Pick up the chick with the most perfect breasts money can
buy, eat at the finest restaurants in the world and stay at a
hotel designed in the image of a city. No where my friend - then go
home and tell your friends you had the best time of your life? It's
Vegas baby!
Las Vegas has become
one of my favorite television series. It's centers in Las Vegas, which is where I
currently live. I do find it amazing that both Vegas series
"Las Vegas" and "CSI: Miami" are based the city
of Las Vegas, but nearly all the principle photography is filmed in
Los Angeles. The use for Vegas is strictly external scenes when a
familiar landmark is needed.
The series can take a stretch
from the realities of how far a casino will go for anything, but the
episodes are well written and entertaining. The special guest stars
are not just thrown into some superfluous facial role, the writers
actual put together scripts that put their talents to use.
This brings things to
the most unique feature of the series that's reminiscent of the Love
Boat. It's the number of familiar faces that guest star through the
show in the first season. Fans get the chance to see boxer Sugar
Shane Mosley, Alec Baldwin, Elliot Gould, Sean Astin, Brooks &
Dunn, Dennis Hopper and many others.
The worst part of this
boxed set was replacing Elvis' "A Little Less
Conversation" opening theme with a new one. It can only be
heard in the pilot. The new theme rocks, but it's not as good. This
is likely from a money problem with Elvis' estate.
NBC was a bit slow
greenlighting the second season and it has turned out to be a good
decision. The ratings have taken off in the 2005 season.
PACKAGING
Universal's packaging for Las Vegas is nicely designed mixing a few
gambling images with that of the cast. The 3 DVD boxed set comes in
a cardboard slip case (plastic like Buck Rogers would have been
better) with a 3 flap fold out case with cover flap. The discs are double
sided and contain 4 episodes and extras on each disc.
VIDEO:
The video looks splendid. It should,
considering the series first seasons original airing is less than a year
ago. The colors are sharp and video lacks any significant debris
or dirt. It's got it goin' on!
AUDIO:
The audio is in Dobly Digital 5.1 and
sounds incredible. Listening to Elvis sing "A Little Less
Conversation" in the pilot is awesome. It hits on all the
channels and rumbles through the bass in just the right places. It
Rocks!
BONUS FEATURES:
Anchor Bay hasn't loaded up the
season one set with many extra but who needs them really. Fans just
want the series as part of their collections.
