Millennium Season 2 Rating: "A"

STARS: Lance Henrickson, Brittany Tipladder, Megan Galliger, Klea Scott, Terry O'Quinn

James Wong and Glenn Morgan took the reins from Chris Carter and brought Millennium our of the Profiler mold and into something special. Frank Black would spend season 2 overcoming his own criminal soul, his wife stepping away from him and becoming a larger part of the Millennium Group, a secret organization dedicated to tracking down evil bringing it to justice.

Season 2 was far and away the best of the series. Morgan & Wong created an intense dramatic storytelling machine with Frank Black played by Lance Henrickson.

I had lost most of my interest in the series before the end of season one. I did catch several episodes of season two and the changes in storyline and the writing were drastic. Season two was indeed a glimpse of what Millennium could have been if Fox has stuck with the show beyond season 3. Like many fans I was blown away when Fox announced the cancellation at the end of season 3. The ratings were good, fan interest was at its peak. It looked like Fox might have found another X-Files. The studio appeared to have soured on anything involving Chris Carter, Wong and Morgan.

Millennium fans now have a wonderful opportunity to own this series in a well designed boxed set from Fox TV.

It is nearly impossible to express the difference in watching a television show uncut without the problems of commercial breaks.  Millennium is a spellbinding  television experience.

PACKAGING
Fox TV & Ten Thirteen have created a beautiful package for season two. The digipack is covered with some wonderful looking artwork. The mini-dvd holders are contain one disc with four episodes. The cover inserts match the digiback in color but all six contain various images from the season various facial photos of series star Lance Henrickson. Also on the back of each is episode titles and synopsis.

VIDEO:
The digital transfer to 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen looks beautiful. Ten Thirteen put in the effort cleaning up the shows video. The details are sharp, the colors vibrant and debris is minimal on the transfer. The series is almost seven years old and it looks like it was recorded this year.

AUDIO:
The audio transfer has been dubbed to Dolby Digital 5.1 and it sounds excellent for a television series. The base is deep and the voices are sharp and soundtrack for the series is.

BONUS FEATURES:
The film has a limited amount of extras.

  • The Turn of the Tide: Making of Season Two Featurette

  • Academy Group: Victimology Featurette

  • Audio Commentary on Selected Episodes

SUMMARY:
James Wong and Glenn Morgan have put their stamp on the seasonal boxed set of Millennium. The acting performances only enhanced the writers dramatic storytelling. Buyers in search of a new series to catch, this is one of them. There will be 66 episodes to enjoy.  Fans of the series are getting an exceptional boxed set for their collection. I could give crap about all the extras material, so what you get is decent. It's an intense boxed set. The only drawback is the boxed sets lack of autoplay. While such a small thing it's a nifty feature when there are three or four episodes on a disc.
