MST3K: Volume 6 rating - "C+ to B-"

There are movies out there so bad that no one would show up a theater to watch them for free, much less spend the time at home watching these on the television.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 has taken the bad and made it fun. By now most anyone in the genre television is well aware of just what the show is about.  Joel, Tom and Crow can turn a dud of a film into an expected gem.

I never really watched the series until they began airing them on the Sci-Fi Channel for a couple of years. I know a lot of fans were upset when it was taken off.

It's great that Rhino Home Video has stepped up and brought the franchise to DVD. I wish they had also thought about a price tag that would make people purchase the boxed set rather than picking it up, looking at it, and sticking back on the shelf.

 PACKAGING:
Rhino did a great job creating the boxed set. They've used the same set-up that Warner Bros had for the first season of Wonder Woman. The artwork is colorful. even though a bit on the dark side, but its appealing to the eye. The series title is embossed on the sleeve.

VIDEO:
The movies themselves were cleaned-up and that's a good thing with this boxed set. They are presented in all the ugly glory, so it's really impossible to give the video more than a high C or low B grade.

AUDIO:
The audio is presented in mono with a lot of sounds and voices getting muffled. This part of the film could have been so much better with a bit of effort. It wasn't.

BONUS FEATURES:
There's pretty much zilch in the way of extras with the boxed set. It wasn't expected either.

SUMMARY:
It's great that Rhino is putting this set to DVD for the fans. But for the outrageous price tag fans are expected to pay these sets could have at least had the audio cleaned up and put into Dolby Digital 2.0 mono. If your a fan you'll step up with the sixty bucks. If you're the casual viewer it will still be sitting on the stores shelf for a long, long time.
