Roswell had a decent
fan base when the show was on the air, and they fought hard to get
the series on DVD. 20th Century Fox has completed the release of the
series with this season 3 final chapter DVD boxed set release.
Personally I never got
into the series. I thought most of the storylines in the first and
second season were geared towards the teens and not a mature
audience. I never bothered to tune in to any of the third season.
Everyone pretty much knew the series was doomed by the end of the
shows second season, and some of the shows cast was ready to move
on.
I found season three
very entertaining. It is likely the best season of the three. I
believe this is what the series was to be if it had stayed on
television, but the many of the viewers had moved on to other
things.
The acting and content
for season 3 is really good. I think fans will enjoy what they find
on these discs.
PACKAGING
The boxed set packaging looks good. The mixed a cast photo with the
generic flourescent green lighted background which generally
indicates alien activity these days. It's eye catching mixed with
the darkness of the rest of the background. The thin case covers
have some excellent cover sheets with a single cast members which
opens to contain the single disc with up to four episodes. The base
image background looks good. It's an appealing boxed set.
VIDEO:
The video looks very good. Very
few blemishes or debris through most of the episodes. The colors are
crisp and the blacks are dark. The video does not suffer from any
kind of washout, fading or bleed over. The series isn't that old but
I was impressed with the quality of the transfer.
AUDIO:
It
5.1, but it's wasted. Until television
is truly putting it to use there isn't much point. Roswell is a
dramatic series more than action and the rear channel speakers are
hardly used at all. The voices and music are sharp and clear through
the center and front speakers.

It's a pretty nice list of bonus features for the third
season.

SUMMARY:
Roswell has its niche, but it won't be breaking any sale records. If
you enjoy the alien thing and drama series this would be an
excellent series for someone to get in to. That being said the
series has no ending, and viewers will be left hanging.
The biggest drawback
to the boxed set is the lack of the basic "PLAY ALL"
feature. There are just to many series hitting the shelves lacking
this feature. It's minor, but you really notice it attempting to
kick back and watch a disc.
20th Century Fox has
done a great job with this boxed set as well as the series. New
viewers will get a treat if they decided to get into the
series.
