Smallville Season 3 Rating: A

STARS: Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Sam Jones, Allison Mack, John Glover, Annette O'Toole and John Schneider

After getting the chance to sit through the season 2 boxed set I was hoping for the opportunity to take a gander at the third season when it became available.

I wasn't disappointed in what I got. In the third season our young Clark Kent has begun to learn a bit more about his destiny.  It wasn't that much destiny for many fans however. Some fans grew tired of Smallville's mysterious caves that were linked to Clark but overall these same people were given a great seasons worth of material to enjoy. The series just seems to get better each season. The writers and actors become much easier to the respective jobs making a better show for us.

Season 3 could may well be the shows best season simply for special guest stars like Rutger Hauer (one of my favorites), Annette O'Tooles husband Micheal McKeon, and the late Christopher Reeves.

PACKAGING:
Warner Bros continues the series with the very nice book style design. An insert gives fans a decent little episode guide. The book style format includes a nice slide in sheath. It's probably my favorite boxed set style.

VIDEO:
Each episode is presented in anamorphic widescreen. The colors are washed a bit, but it seems intentional. The video looks great and the series is nearly dirt and debris free.

AUDIO:
The sound is Dolby Digital 2.0 and it's great. This is the best sounding boxed set I have heard in a television series dumped to DVD. It sounds better than many of the recent 5.1 features that have hit DVD this year.

BONUS FEATURES:
Warner Bros. has included some decent bonus features.
* There's commentary on 3 episodes by Key cast members and crew.
* Deleted Scenes
* A making-of documentary  - Producing Smallville: The Heroes Behind the Camera.
* The CHLOE Chronicles Vol. II
* Interactive Comic Book
* Gag Reel
* Some DVD Rom material for computer lovers.

SUMMARY:
The music in the episodes sounds awesome on the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack. The video is awesome and it's in anamorphic widescreen, great packaging and a butt load of bonus features. This is a wonderful boxed set that really rocks. I don't watch the show regularly or even once in a while on television. Uncut and without the commercials Smallville episodes flow well together and the story telling is flawless. This is the only way to really enjoy a series... any series. Smallville fans are so lucky that Warner is putting these sets together.

Smallville Season 3 Rating: A - for the lack of a 5.1 mix it could have used and no extras from the shows stars that would have been important to many fans. These guys aren't getting any younger.
