The New Kid
I must really be old
school. Most of the animated cartoons today seem to play down to
children as if they were some kind of idiots that don't mature or
understand anything until they hit puberty. Back in the day when
cartoons were really cartoons the kids were able to follow the adult
style of cartoon without any problem. Amazing.
You just couldn't beat
eating a bowl or cereal to the likes of Bugs Bunny and the Road
Runner Show or the Kroft Supershow. Now kids are reduced to animated
material that tends to talk down to them.
In a true rarity
Static Shock actually features a black superhero - something rarely
seen in the early days of animation and still unique today. I did
get tired of the slang talk like something from MTV Raps and poor
writing.
There is the nice
attempts to reach out with anit-gang hints without actually doing it
effectively. Static Shock just isn't heads or tales above anything
playing today. It lacks the substance to be remembered when it's
gone.
PACKAGING:
The packaging is the same crap as the Teen Titans using the
cardboard material with plastic tabs and locks. This is another one
that had the brittle dvd locking mechanism that was broken.
VIDEO:
The video presentation is exceptional. The colors are vibrant and
sharp. The blacks are dark and I found hard any dust or debris in
the presentation.
AUDIO:
The sound is good. The music is crisp and clear. The characters
voices ring true and are not overpowered by the musical backgrounds.
BONUS FEATURES:
Almost none. The ones included aren't going to get the kids excited.
These include Maps of Dakota, Static's Gadgets, Front Page Bios, and
Static Shock: Bad Guy Beatdown.
SUMMARY:
I wasn't impressed with this cartoon at all. It was a wasted good
idea. Static shock brings nothing to animation, storytelling, or the
young children that watch it.
