STARS:
Batman, Robin, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman and The Wonder
Twins...
Wonder Twin powers,
activate! What a couple of cheesy characters to pin down with DC
Comics finest. But as a kid you accepted these two buffoons as if
they were really super heroes too.
"Using his keen
telepathic senses Aquaman summons dozens of electric eels,
commanding them to form a gigantic electrified net." Wow. That
narrator was really something in those days. A giant electrified net
from dozens of eels. How impressive is that? Whew. You just
gotta love the show.
This season is from
the shows 1973 season, which and that brings back a mass of crushing
memories. My friends and hitting puberty, noticing the ladies have
something special to offer. Something many of us will spend most of
our lives chasing after.
This was one of my
favorite cartoons next to the Herculoids and Spiderman. While cheesy
and childish it action packed and entertaining as hell. It's great
for the child in all of us, as well as the children growing up
today. It's a gotta have DVD boxed set.
PACKAGING
The packaging has the cartoon feel to it. the images are directly
from the series and look great in the simple fold out case.
VIDEO:
Warner dropped the ball in this area. The colors and the transfer look
great, but the video is clogged with debris and blemishes throughout
every episode. The masters look as if they were in pretty good shape
but could have used a bit of digital magic to restore the quality
that should be offered on any dvd set. You don't have to load the
discs with extra material but at least do the audio and video.
AUDIO:
Don't bother expecting anything from the surround. It just ain't
there folks. It's an old 70's cartoon never meant for what we have
today.
BONUS FEATURES:
The only bonus features are a Super Friends retrospective and a
Wonder Twins featurette.
SUMMARY:
An excellent boxed set despite the audio and visual drawbacks. It's a boxed set that
can watch with fond memories and for the first time by young
children. The best feature is autoplay. Love that one episode
right after the other.
