I never saw most of
the later original broadcasts. Catching them in these boxed sets has
been excellent for me. I am enjoying the same theme style episodes
and the anamorphic widescreen broadcasts. I know for a fact that the
series never looked this good in its original broadcast. The quality
of cable then just wasn't what it is now for us Las Vegas folks. The
new digital cable here is different.
It was amazing that
two actors headlining their own kick ass series were so willing, and
so much in a hurry to get away from. Neither actor has done shit
since departing the series that made them famous. Now it's common
place for actors to leave a hit show, aka Friends, Everybody Loves
Raymond and the X-Files.
These Mythology boxed
sets are wonderful packages geared to specific fans that just might
not have the money to purchase all 9 seasons of the show. For me it
has been an opportunity to learn what I have missed over the years.
This is a unique and interesting way to present the series to new
and old fans alike.
PACKAGING
The packaging is basic, yet eye
catching matching the previous Mythology releases.. A plain white cardboard slip case
using dull brown images does capture the eye in a nice design
overall. The four discs are in two slim case two disc clamshells.
The inserts uses different images set with the same theme design.
The insert interior images are darkened images taken from the boxed
set episodes create a dark setting that matches many of the shows
storylines. It's a well designed and put together package that fans
will like.
VIDEO:
There episodes are from seasons 5 thru 8 and they look really good. The video looks very good, but is not spectacular.
Blemishes and dirt are minimal and the colors are accurate, the
blacks dark. It's a very good transfer. I believe this is the
first time the show has been presented in the 1.78:1 Anamorphic
Widescreen.
AUDIO:
The audio is remastered up to Dolby
Digital up to 5.1. They just don't want to tell you it's Dolby
Digital 2.0. The audio is good working well through the system.
There's minimal use of the rear speakers. It's seldom put to use
with any television series. The voices are clear, background
music and special effects are clear and crisp. It sounds
good.
BONUS FEATURES:
The bonus materials are limited
and are essentially the same as the Black Oil boxed set.

SUMMARY:
Let's face it. If you had the money and purchased the seasonal boxed
set these specialty sets are useless. But for the fan attempting to
purchase all the series they love or it's simply a budget thing
these sets are a godsend. The quality of the sets are excellent and
they are geared towards a specific type of events that may strike a
cord in a fans spine if these were their favorite eps.
It's a unique boxed
set idea to sell more copies and maybe give fans their favorite
episodes in a single boxed set.
