Anyone even remember the Bugaloos? You'd have to be in your late 30's to remember this Kroft program despite it being their best rated series ever. Phillis Diller co-starred in the one. It all came back in a huge flash as I watched the first few minutes of disc 1.

The series was a heavy mix of puppets, humans and people in puppet suits. I found is a mix of kKoft's Sigmund and the Sea Monster and HR Pufnstuff,  This boxed set along and other Kroft series are excellent for children today. So much better than Spongebob and the other shit being produced today.

I have a three year old that visits two to three days every week and these are the sets we are presenting her with and she enjoys them.

PACKAGING
The packaging is colorful and designed in the style of the 70's when the series was part of the Saturday morning line-up.

VIDEO:
The digital
transfer looks very nice. Not great on the digital but it's good on the analog. The digital work from Rhino has the colors sharp and vibrant but the video itself is a bit soft. There's no color bleed bleed. I was very surprised the masters from 1974 were still in good enough shape to come up with this nice a picture.

AUDIO:
The sound is adequate. I found it a bit metallic at any of the higher decibels. There wasn't much to work with the series being from the 70's. It gets the job done.

BONUS FEATURES:

  • Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0)
  • Interviews and commentary with John McIndoe ("I.Q."), Caroline Ellis ("Joy") and John Philpott ("Courage")
  • Commentary with Sid Krofft and director Tony Charmoli
  • Photo gallery
  • The Bugaloos I.Q. Test, hosted by John "I.Q." McIndoe
  • The Bugaloos video jukebox

SUMMARY:
Kroft and Rhino Home Video have done a really nice job bringing their old shows to the DVD world. Prices are really not conductive to big sales based on the number of episodes and quality of material.

If Rhino could price these at around twenty bucks they might sell like hot cakes.

If you've got kids or just enjoy the world of Sid & Marty Kroft this is a great boxed set for your collection. The casual viewer will not waste the cash on this set.

The Bugaloos Rating:  D
