Uh, wow. I was
surprised to see this set hitting shelves. No commercials,
newsletters, nothing. That being said Gidget was an interesting
series. A fast-paced half-hour series about a 15 year old girl
growing up in a single parent home.
This is my wife's all
time favorite series. A 32 episode series that she discovered on
some no name station in Kingsbay, Georgia about 20 years ago. On and
off throughout the years the series has shown here and there keeping
her interest in it. Once the DVD market started flooding with
television series, the old one, she was always asking about Gidget
and Petticoat Junction. I never thought these shows would actually
release for several more years, but... here it is.
Sally Field would go
on to become a Hollywood Icon nearly everyone would know. She's done
well in the dramatic rolls and comedy fields. Just recently here
show "The Flying Nun" has hit the market too. Yeah, my
wife has that one too.
PACKAGING
The packaging
fits the series. It's eye catching and
colorful. Sony has used the dual thin cases with inserts that match
the box art. A nice job by Sony.
VIDEO:
Sony really put the effort into this part of the set. It's been
burned in Hi-Def and looks good even on the digital television. It's
awesome on the analog set. There are more recent shows that look so
much worse. Thanks Sony, a nice job on Gidget.
AUDIO:
The audio is great. The Dolby Digital
2.0 sounds great. The dialogue is clear and background music clear.
There no static background noise. It's crisp and clear, what more
can you ask for a comedy show.
BONUS FEATURES:
Gidget's a little light on this side of the set. But how much stuff
is going to be around from 1965? Not much other than new interviews
from the stars still living anyways.
SUMMARY:
Sony did the series right. The gave the series a hi-def burn and a
digital soundtrack. Gidget is a fun light-hearted series that any
viewer can enjoy. Seeing the way things were done in the sixties
also adds some mystic to the older shows.
At $26.99 this is a
decent purchase.
