This is the
second-half of season two - episodes 11 thru 20 with an extended
version of the cliff-hanger episode 10 "Pegasus".
Holy shit, I forget
how bad the broadcast signal is for the Sci-Fi Channel in my area
until you put a set like this into the dvd player. The quality of
the production just blows you away with the movie production
feel.
The series star
episode I enjoyed the most was Scar. I found it a play on an episode
from "Space Above and Beyond" about a Cylon Rader named
Scar who's taking out war-weary viper squadrons and it comes down to
Starbuck and Apollo to take the rogue cylon out.
Battlestar Galactica
is not for the dramatically challenged viewer. The series takes fans
on dramatic rollercoaster ride as the chain of command continues to
break down and sympathizers have no idea they are working with
Cylons to undermine the survival of the human race. The Cylons are
beginning to question their beliefs and what they are doing as they
live with the humans
PACKAGING:
The outer slip pack is again beautiful using the familiar foil technique
with embossed lettering and images of the cast. The micro-cases have
unique slip covers with beautiful images of the cast on them. However
the same cannot be said for the underside which are white. No images
or printing on them to save a few pennies per printing.. These are clear cases so
you can see that the backside is nothing more than a blank white
backing. It was a missed opportunity to share info between the
original and the new series.
VIDEO:
The digital transfer is beautiful. The special effects are
incredible and look fantastic against the rich black background of
stars. While the series is dark the colors used are vibrant and do
not suffer from any bleed. Dirt and debris are minimal.
AUDIO:
This audio is still one of the best audio transfers for a television series.
There is a good use of the rear
speakers for a television series and the background music sounds
incredible.
BONUS FEATURES:
The bonus features are minimal compared to the first half 2.0 boxed
set.
-
Deleted Scenes
-
Podcast
-
Producer's Video
Logs.
SUMMARY:
I dread telling anyone to purchase these boxed sets from Universal.
While the series is incredible the studio is ripping off the viewer
for $100 per complete season by releasing them in half-season at
$49.99 each. Even with discounts fans are paying over $70 for the
complete second season. Forty dollars is what people should be
paying for the season.
As for the series
itself... it's one of the best on television hands down. There
really isn't a weakness on this series for the fans. it's all good.
The action, the drama and cast and hey... it's science fiction at
that.
Battlestar Galactica
is awesome!
