MAJOR MOTION PICTURE

 PRODUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT

May 8, 2001

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Newly formed Pendragon Pictures proudly announces its premiere production of WAR OF THE WORLDS, to begin lensing September, 2001. This non-campy, live action production of the H. G. Wells classic will be directed by Pendragon C.E.O. Timothy Hines and Produced by Susan Goforth from their screenplay, adapted from the classic novel. Susan Goforth will also star in the 2 hour plus motion picture along with a cast of television personalities and unknowns. "The movie is the star," declares Hines, who feels that casting major star talents would take away the edge of reality for the audience. "When H. G. Wells wrote the first ever story of intelligent global alien invasion back in 1898, it struck a cord of terror in the imaginations of readers the world over. Likewise, when Orson Wells broadcast the story in the nineteen thirties, people believed they were hearing of a real invasion. We, in a sense, are doing the same thing, on a much more massive scale, of course."

The $42 million dollar production will utilize state of the art effects and will be shot in the new CineAlta HD system George Lucas used for his upcoming STAR WARS installment. Financed through an array of sources anchored with venture capital, Pendragon Pictures' production will be the first ever to feature the ten-story tall alien fighting machines. "I've always wanted to see a movie version of WAR OF THE WORLDS with the massive fighting machines with their tentacles and poison gas deployment weapons striding down city streets, sending people fleeing in terror," admits Hines. Goforth is equally enthusiastic. "Response to our screenplay has been overwhelmingly positive. The aliens in WAR OF THE WORLDS are not just creatures in big fast mindless lumbering machines. They are devious and cunning and know how to use propaganda to turn humanity against each other. Everyone has come away from the script telling us that when we film this story, it will be the most frightening movie ever made."

Timothy Hines comes from the art film world, where his previous pictures include A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and HOUSE OF THE RISING, distributed through 50th Street Films out of New York City. 50th Street Films is TROMA's art division. "My movies are the only serious art films making money for Lloyd Kaufman," says Hines. "My pictures are nothing like the usual Troma fare, but I was flattered that Lloyd lovingly mentioned me in his book, EVERYTHING I KNOW, I LEARNED FROM THE TOXIC AVENGER."

Hines recently completed BUG WARS, a low budget sci-fi about two women survivors of a doomsday war battling giant alien spiders, was created for under $1 mil. and designed for Cable TV and Home Video. BUG WARS received a positive response when it premiered at Cannes 2000. Critics have said it was more entertaining than most large budget Hollywood films coming out lately and have hailed the scope and quality of its special effects wrenched from a shoe-string budget.

Another picture Hines recently filmed, STARSHIP ORPHEUS, starring Susan Goforth, was originally planned for home video, but is now being retooled for the large screen. Susan Goforth has a background in musical theater and has performed in touring productions of Broadway fair such as GUYS AND DOLLS, ME AND MY GIRL, A CHORUS LINE, FOLLIES, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, to name a few.

Hines and Goforth are structuring worldwide distribution at the time of this release. "We are in no hurry to fill up the distribution slate," says Hines. "We don't need it for financing and the freedom is uplifting. Being a large scale independent allows us the opportunity to do the picture for all the right reasons." WAR OF THE WORLDS will premiere at CANNES 2003.

Look for the announcement in the Cannes 2001 issue of Variety, page 30, currently at the newsstands. Hines' film BUG WARS is also currently reviewed in the April double FARSCAPE issue of Cinefantastique. A major photo spread by Jan Deen, of the female BUG WARS stars will appear in an upcoming issue of Femme Fatales Magazine.
