The Last Warrior "IS
BACK" - Part One
Rewritten, Revamped and New Material
Mar
6: Star Trek, Direct to Video?: It just might happen.
DarkHorizons.com has come up with some news that Paramount has finally
noticed that "Direct To Video" films can be profitable. They
are planning to dust off several successful feature films and begin a
few direct to video franchise. Beyond bringing Star Trek to the this
style, Paramount will also consider "Bevery Hills Cop",
"Forrest Gump", and other big films. Direct to Video have
been successful for many years and created a slew of "B"
actors or allowed once popular stars to continue making money, to
include, "Brian Bosworth", "Steven Seagal ",
"Dean Cain" (Superman), "Roddy Piper" (They Live),
"Rutger Hauer" (Blade Runner), "Daryl Hannah"
(Splash), "Eric Roberts" and many others.
Mar
6: Sarah Connors Chronicles: The new pilot has completed principle
photography. Serenity's Summer Glau is playing a Terminator named
Cameron (the good one) while the male terminator "Cromarte"
will be portrayed by Owain Yeoman. As previously mentioned Sarah
Connor is played by Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker (Heroes) will be the
young John Connors.
Mar
6: Wild Hogs: What do you get if you mix William H. Macy, Martin
Lawrence, Tim Allen and John Travolta in a comedy motorcycle flick?
Hell, it's a huge box office opening. Wild Hogs brought in over $38
million this weekend. Ghost Rider fell this week to number three after
three weeks with $11.5 million. The new Zodiac film was second with
$13.1 million and will fade fast at the box office.
Mar
5: Babylon Fields: Joan of Arcadia star Amber Tamblyn is heading
back to television in a new series titled "Babylon
Fields". Variety reported. The show, from 20th
Century Fox TV, is set in an apocalyptic world where deceased people
have been resurrected and are trying to resume their lives. Tamblyn
will play Janine Wunch, a young woman who was abused by her father and
teamed up with her mother to kill him, only to see him come back from
the dead.
Mar
5: Tin Man: The SFC mini-series "Tin Man" has signed
Richard Dreyfus to co-star. He joins Zooey Deschanel and Alan
Cummings. Tin Man is a wild take on the original Wizard of Oz.
Jason and the Argonauts mini-series helmer Nick Willing will sit in
the command chair for this one.
Mar
5: Radcliffe, is That You: Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to
complete the filmology of the Harry Potter novels (two more films).
Watson and Grint are not yet signed, but in all likely hood will do
the films. Apparently the question was floating around whether
Radcliffe would sign on to finish out the films. It's not like these
three young actors have that many options at hand. Poor Radcliffe is destined
to be the next Christopher Reeves, George Reeves and William Shatner.
He is forever sealed as the legendary Harry Potter no matter what he
attempts to do. It could up being just as bad for his two sidekicks,
Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
Mar
5: More Confidential: There is a sequel in the works to the
underrated feature "LA Confidential". Stars Russell Crowe
and Guy Pearce could be reprising their roles. The Dark Horizons
website reports that Pearce recently downplayed interest in reprising
the role.
Mar
5: 2008 Set to Kick Ass: The box office payday for studios could
be quite high. Already set for release in 08 is "Star Trek
11", "Indiana Jones 4", "Rambo 4", "Iron
Man", "The Dark Knight", and "Sin City
2".
Mar
5: The Fly: After the last remake and sequel does "They
Fly" need another remake? While the mist of logic say no Nicolas
Cage could be interested in starring in a remake of the original
film.
Mar
5: Star Trek 11: Paramount has set the stage for the return of
Star Trek in it's 11th film. Production is slated to begin in the fall
with a Christmas 2008 release.
Mar
5: Terminator 4: Yes and No, Maybe I will, maybe I won't. The
rumors on again that The Schwartz may not appear in a cameo in the
fourth Terminator film.
Mar
5: Scanners Remake: The 1981 film based on the novel by David
Cronenberg is getting a remake from "Saw 2 & 3"
director, Darren Lynn Bousman. He just inked a deal to helm the
project that will be written by David Goyer. Filming is slated to
begin early 2008 with a release later in the year.
Feb
24: Olmos 60: Edward James Olmos, who I most remember from his
days on Miami Vice and in Blade Runner turns the big 60 today. Olmos
is in his third season as Commander Adama on board "Battlestar
Galactica". Happy Birthday!!! also celebrating a
birthday today is Barry Bostwick -61- It's a wonder his career did hit
the toilet sink at his stink in "Megaforce" in 1982. Honus
Wagner, baseball legend, also celebrated his birthday on Feb
24th.
Feb
24: Jobs for 52: Apple Computer guru Steve Jobs is 52 today.
Feb
24: Don Knotts: The Reluctant Astronaut, The Incredible Mr. Limpet
and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken passed away at 81 just one year ago
today. Who actually thought of Knotts being in a genre film? Despite
being comedies these were genre films and Don Knotts was a great
actor. Also passing away on Feb 24 was Dennis Weaver (McCloud - 2006),
Dinah Shore - 1994,
Feb
24: Trek 11: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed, despite rumors
to the contrary, that JJ Abrams is still set to helm the upcoming Star
Trek 11 feature film.
Feb
24: Lake Placid: The 199 film "Lake Placid" starring
Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt and Brandon Gleeson is
probably one of the most underrated and entertaining films I have ever
scene. Between the action, the actions, the special effects and
ultimate show of extreme sarcasm Lake Placid is as nearly perfect as
any film can get. Unfortunately the film will now get sequel that will
be nothing more than a familiar name and Croc. The direct to video
(with the exception of airing on the SciFi Channel first) will be helm
by Boa vs Python director Dave Flores. Starring will be none of than
the Dukes of Hazzard & Smallville actor John Schneider (Bo Duke),
Cloris leachman (Starship Troopers) and Chad Collins (Legions of the
Dead).
Feb
24: Boob & Breast Girl Back With Her Charms: Charmed star
Alyssa Milano is back on television in a new pilot for ABC in an as
yet untitled drama.
Feb
24: Wonder Woman: With Joss Whedon gone from this project does it
have any hope of making it to the big screen. Does anyone even want to
see this DC character on the big screen? Invisible plane, magic lasso,
and corny ass costume. If you change the things she's been known for
throughout the comics is it still Wonder Woman?
Feb
24: John Carter of Mars: Disney has reacquired the rights to Edgar
Rice Burroughs 11 novel franchise "John Carter of Mars."
They studio is hoping the with the right fleshing out this could be
another 3 to ??? picture deal.
Feb
24: Sin City 2: Robert Rodriquez is ready to begin production on
his Sin City Sequel. He is expected to team up with Frank Miller on
directing duties again this summer.
Feb
24: Justice League... Live Action: Warner Bros has decided it
wants to pull out the stops on its DC Comics characters. So far only
Batman & Superman have been to the big screen successfully. By
bringing the Justice League to the big screen it could create spin-off
films for The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and a couple of others.
Also slated for the production are Batman & Superman. The biggest
issue facing Warner Bros. is whether they go after Christian Bale
(Batman) and Brandon Routh (superman) for the roles in this film. They
could use one of the previous actors to don the Batman mask again. The
Studio has also hired writers Kiernan and Michele Mulroney (Mr. &
Mrs Smith) to pen the new script. (moviehole.net)
Feb
24: More National Treasure: Before the second film can be laid
down from pen to paper the foks at Disney are already interested in a
3rd and 4th film. Disney, like a few other studios, are extremely
interested in creating a few money making franchises. If one of
these bone head executives at the major studios could learn anything
they'd take a page from the likes of "Die Hard" and
"Lethal Weapon" to create a franchise the works. Die Hard or
Lethal Weapon could have done five or more successful pictures if they
hadn't waited so long between films. Using the style of LW could make
successful (serious) franchises out of shows like Starsky & Hutch,
Hunter, and Miami Vice.
Feb
24: Rambo 4 Name Change... Again: The fourth film started as
"In The Serpent's Eye". It was then changed to "Pearl
of the Cobra" and now will simply be titled "John
Rambo".
Feb
24: Wizard Magazine Changes: Scott Gramling is returning to the
magazine as the editor in chief after a 12 absence from the mag where
he previously served as associate editor. Gramling will take over the
helm duties immediately.
Feb
24: Avatar in 2009: If James Cameron ever really gets down to
making a film again it just might be "Avatar". Cameron is
currently looking at a Memorial day 2009 release date and he has
started casting for this project. James Cameron actually sees this
film as a franchise. But at 13 years (by the time of release) between
films it's unlikely Cameron could create any film franchise.
Feb
18: Knowles Lands on Sports Swimsuit Issue: Beyonce Knowles will
grace Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue. Many men will purchase the
issue to get a load of those hefty legs and overly stuffed butt in a
bikini. Look out Big Momma. Here comes Beyonce. She's worked hard the
past year to get the legs and booty into bikini shape.
Feb
18: Rambo: Actor/Singer Matt Marsden will join Sylvester Stallone
in the upcoming Rambo film. (moviehole.net)
Feb
18: Reaper: The BW television pilot for "Reaper" will be
directed by none other than Silent Bob's Kevin Smith. The supernatural
pilot begins lensing next month at ABC studios. A 21 year old loser
becomes Satan's bounty hunter retrieving souls lost from hell. Gee,
this one's been done before a few years ago.
Feb
18: House & Bones Renewed: Fox has given the quick renewal for
series House and Bones for the 2007/2008 season. According to network
executives the shows were never in question for renewal.
Feb
18: Las Vegas: The move to Friday night has not be grand for the
folks at the Montecito Casino. The show Las Vegas still scored a
second place rating in it's 9pm timeslot, but the ratings are down to
5.1, which were over 6 when the series aired on Monday nights. It is
still up in the air whether Las Vegas will see another season on the
Las Vegas strip.
Feb
18: Two Face: Batman producers have landed their Harvey Dent in a
thirty-something Aaron Eckhart. Despite Hollywood's movement into the
twenty-something realm comes a thirty-something actor in a key role
for a huge sequel. Go Eckhart.
Feb
14: More Galactica!!!: Fans can unite for one more season. The
folks over at the Sci-Fi Channel have renewed the dramatic series for
a fourth season of 13 episodes. Production is already slated to begin
this summer. So far January 2008 is set to begin airing the new
season. Who would have though that a Sunday night at 10pm would bring
in a larger audience then it's previous 9pm Friday night slot. The
shows audience has grown in the female and adult demographic with the
move.
Feb
14: Marvel Projects 2010 & Beyond: Here are the current Marvel
comic projects current in development or some form of production. Iron
Man, The Incredible Hulk Sequel; a Punisher sequel; A possible fourth
Spiderman film; and a Ghost Rider 2 film. Currently in process is
Spiderman 3, Fantastic Four 2, and Rise of the Silver Surfer. Beyond
2010 (and could move forward) are Wolverine (Jackman isn't getting any
younger); Captain America; Luke Cage: Powerman; Magneto, and possibly
other X-Men spin-off series. If FOX is interested there could be a
fourth X-Men film.
Feb
14: Star Trek Release is Green: The original series has been
released again into syndication. This time with the all-new special
effects. The series pick-up has been minimal in my area showing on
just one local channel. In the ratings for sci-fi based shows those
old farts exploring the galaxy are scoring an impressive 1.4 in the
ratings. Only Alias - 1.7 and Smallville - 1.6 are doing better. The
over thirty television series (just 79 episodes) is outperforming
Stargate Atlantis, SG-1, Farscape and the Outer Limits, all of which
currently air on more networks.
Feb
14: Transformers: Michael Bay recently previewed 25 minutes of his
new feature film to some enthusiastic fans at the New York Toy Fair.
Fans were treated for four separate scenes from the film. The previews
were met with approval.
Feb
14: Bionic Woman Lands Lead: the Superhero Hype website has
learned that this time around Jamie Sommers will be British. Virtually
unknown Michelle Ryan will play the role of the $50 million woman.
Ryan has spent the last five years on the BBC series "EastEnders".
Feb
14: No Jaws 5: Clint Morris and his staff over at Moviehole.net
have debunked the direct to video "Jaws 5" project. The head
cheese at Universal had decreed that there is no Jaws project in the
works.
Feb
14: The Flash: The DC comic book superhero "The Flash"
has a new director in Shawn Levy (Cheaper By The Dozen, The Pink
Panther). Levy is coming off his under the radar hit feature
"Night at the Museum" which has grossed $225 million. Goyer
was originally set to write, direct and produce the film but quietly
stepped away from the Flash. Levy will take to the Flash on a lighter
note while Goyer's version was to have been a darker film aka
"Batman Begins" and "Superman Returns".
Feb
14: Abrams Has Entered the Tower: Rather than directing a new Star
Trek Abrams will now produce and someone else will handle the
directing duties. Abrams will now move into Stephen Kings anticipated
project "The Tower." It is as yet unknown if the project
will be a feature film or a television mini-series. The mini would
make since to cover the multiple novels of "the
Tower". Maybe Paramount has realized that regardless of
what you do with Star Trek at this point gaining a new audience is
practically impossible.
Feb
14: More Ghost Rider: The studio seems hot for a second film
despite the films lack of reviews. It hasn't even hit theaters yet,
but Sony likes what they have in the can. Those actually involved with
the film apparently signed a one picture deal. They aren't really
interested in talking sequel until they see how the media and movie
goers take to the film.
Feb
14: The Host: Magnolia
Films will release The Host on March 9th. the new film is a story
about Gang-du who works at a food-stand on the banks of the Han River.
Dozing on the job, he is awakened by his daughter, Hyun-seo, who is
angry with him for missing a teacher-parent meeting at school. As
Gang-du walks out to the riverbank with a delivery, he notices that a
large crowd of people have gathered, taking pictures and talking about
something hanging from the Han River Bridge. The otherwise idyllic
landscape turns suddenly to bedlam, when a terrifying creature climbs
up onto the riverbank and begins to crush and eat people. Gang-du and
his daughter run for their lives, but suddenly the being grabs Hyun-seo
and disappears back into the river. The government announces that the
monstrous thing apparently is the Host of an unidentified virus.
Having feared the worst, Gang-du receives a phone call from his
daughter who is frightened, but very much alive. Gang-du soon makes
plans to infiltrate the forbidden zone near the Han River to rescue
his daughter from the clutches of the horrifying Host. The main site,
Monster Hunters Club
(http://www.monsterhuntersclub.com)
looks innocent enough at first glance, but a trip to the forums
quickly reveals that there’s something sinister going on beneath the
surface. Help solve puzzles and make the connections between
amateur cryptozooligists, a beautiful 19-year-old
Korean film student, a grandson finding out what happened to his army-scientist
grandfather, and weird creature sightings that seem to be getting more
numerous by the day.
Feb
11: Star Trek: I luckily found a local station showing the NEW
Star Trek. Yunno... the ones with the revamped special effects. I
caught the episode tonight "the Doomsday Machine". My
goodness what a difference these special effects create for the
series. A true update to an old classic show. As Commodore Matt Decker
(William Windom) says in the episode... "Right out of hell... I
saw it." and you know what? I was freakin' blown away. I cannot
believe the Sci-Fi Channel passed on this release of the series. What
a bunch of stupid bastards and bitches they can be over there. There
were over 100 new effects added to the episode.
If
this is what Paramount has planned for all the episodes, I will be
purchasing the series when it's released. Doomsday machine was the
sort of flagship for the new cuts of the series episodes with the most
of any episode in the three seasons.
Feb
11: She-Hulk: Nicolas Cage is now eager to get a She-Hulk film off
the ground and is eager for his Ghost Rider co-star Eva Mendez into
the lead role.
Feb
11: Star Trek 11: Is JJ Abrams OUT??? The director/series creator
is denying the reports. Scifi.com has a poll running on who fans would
love to see take the chair to replace Abrams. Who's on top? David
Goyer... nope. Bryan Singer would be a favorite right? nope. Believe
it or not it seems most fans want "Jonathan Frakes" (Star
Trek's William Ryker and director of a couple of the films) at 45% of
the votes. Second is Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy & Serenity). But
the big question is this... Do fans want something new, which the
series drastically needs or what's familiar? Can Star Trek gain a new
audience or is Paramount stuck with the limited fans they have? Good
questions all and going back to a young Kirk and Skock is NOT the way
to do it. Why not let the Babyon 5 creator J. Micheal Stracynski take
a crack at the franchise in a series or feature film. Maybe he can
save it for the fans and pull in all those B5 fans out there. It could
happen.
Feb
11: Capricorn One Remake: The remake from director Peter Hyams has
been in development for the last six months. Regency Films is behind
the production company. (moviehole.net)
Feb
11: Jaws 5: Yeah... they are actually considering a direct to
video Jaws 5 film. The estranged shark is still on duty at Universal
Studios scaring the crap out of tourists.
Feb
11: Beverly Hills Cop 4: Looks like it is a go for Eddie Murphy
(46) to don the character of Axel Foley for one more, and likely last
time, Beverly Hills Cop. It is unknown currently if Judge Reinhold
(50) and John Ashton (59) will reprise their roles in the new
film.
Feb
11: Toy Story 3: There will be a third Toy Story in 2009, but
without John Lasseter. He's been promoted at Disney Animation and
someone else will sit in the magic chair. But will the voices be
back? That is the question.
Feb
11: Preacher: With Ghost Rider finally complete and ready for
theaters director Mark Steven Johnson is concentrating heavily on
getting Preacher completed for HBO.
Feb
11: Van Helsing: Another hero heading to Direct to Video will be
the legendary Van Helsing, this time played by Julian McMahon.
Feb
11: Are you fast?: Maybe not but Fast and the Furious isn't done
with just three films. A fourth film in currently in development but
it too will be a direct to video film.
Feb
11: The Wolfman: the classic horror film get a remake from
director Mark Romanek. Benico Del Toro will lead.
Feb
11: Mummy Rumor: Who should play the Mummy in Mummy 3? The Rock?
Arnold Schwartzenegger? the Italian Stallion? Bruce Willis? Chuck
Norris? How about Jet Li? That's the rumor... Jet Li could be playing
the villain in the new feature film. Go Li!
Feb
11: May 2008: What about the date you ask? Why it's the release
date for the Speed Racer. That was a big let down huh? Sorry... how
about the release date for Indiana Jones 4? These two film will
go head to head opening weeking.
Feb
2: Robin Hood... Again: Once handled by Kevin Costner, Robin Hood
will get the Australian Stallion Russell Crowe treatment in a new
contemporary version of the classic film. The film will be titled
"Nottingham". In this twisted version Robin will be
portrayed as a less virtuous role with Sheriff Nottingham being a of
more noble gentleman. Russell Crowe will handle the duties of
Nottingham. This had better be good with the studio paying the script
writers seven figures. Crowe will dip into the kitty for a cool $20
million - and one of the few actors in Hollywood actually worth that
price.
Feb
2: No Museum For British: There's nothing wrong with the film as
it turns out. It's actually Twentieth Century Fox. Several overseas
chains have pulled many Fox productions because of the studios early
DVD releases. Night at the Museum opened on December 26 and Fox is
planning the DVD release on April 2nd, just 97 days after the films
release. Usually there are four more months before the films would be
released. By the end of January the film has made $193 million
overseas.
Feb
2: Harry Potter VII: Finally fans have a release date for the
final Harry Potter novel. The book will hit stands on July 21st. Yes
the book will be available at bookstores at midnight as well as
online.
Feb
2: Mrs. Smith Settled: The Angelina Jolie (Mr. & Mrs. Smith)
film role turned television role will be portrayed by Jordana Brewster
(The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Brewster was a hot commodity for pilots
this year with five projects vying for her services. They must have
been pretty bad if this is the series she settled on.
Feb
2: Beckinsale U.S. Marshal: Kate Beckinsale will dump the fangs
and leathers for the role of a US Marshal in "Whiteout".
She'll play U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko who must uncover the first
murder ever in the Antartic and must catch the killer before
nightfall, which lasts six months. Reese Witherspoon was originally
attached for the lead role, but there is no way the actress could
carry the role.
Feb
2: Burgers & Xbox $$$: Burger King is the freakin' KING! Their
recent xBox promotion offering three different Burger King games at
$3.99 each was more successful than anyone could anticipate. They
didn't just make a nice little profit... this ideas showed a 40%
increase in quarterly profits vs the same period a year ago. The Don't
Mess With the King campaign sold over 3.2 million copies. That's an
impressive $12.8 million bucks for a triplet of raunchy game play.
That $3.99 price was with the purchase of a BK value meal. That's a
lot of value meals that people never would have purchased to begin
with. Whew! Smart, smart and yeah, it was really smart.
Jan
27: No Holmes For Batman: Good news for Batman fans, Katie Holmes
(Mrs. Tom Cruise) will not be returning for the Batman sequel. The
part for the sequel is pivotal but small, perhaps ten minutes at most.
Either she has opted out or the producers are attempting to save some
payroll since the part could be played by anyone.
Jan
27: Alba's Got the Eye: Jessica Alba has landed the starring role
in the horror film "The Eye". This film from Tom Cruise's
production company will follow a young woman who gets an eye
transplant and is able to see into the supernatural world. Alba will
receive $4 million for the starring role. Production is slated for
sometime in February.
Jan
27: Indy 4 Gets Old: If the rumors are true other old timers being
offered parts in Indiana Jones 4 are Sean Connery (to return as Jones
Dad) and none other than Clint Eastwood.
Jan
27: Nicole Invasion: Nicole Kidman's film career has mostly been
toilet water. She now making her move into science fiction with the
film "Invasion". On January 25th while filming a car
chase scene her Jaguar, being towed by a movie truck, accidentally
slammed into a telephone pole and the actress had to be taken to the
hospital with other members of the crew. Kidman was checked over and
released.
Jan
27: Who's Scotty?: Well, according to IGN Movies James McAvoy
could be in line to play the young Montgomery Scott in the new Star
Trek film. McAvoy starred in Last King of Scottland. Of course Abrams
has said nothing and even Matt Damon has not been contacted to play
Kirk. So, it's pretty much bull-shit but interesting to talk
about.
Jan
27: Spiderman 4: Sony has confirmed that there will be a Spiderman
4 despite McGuire, Dunst and Raimi not interested in returning.
Producers are interest in Jake Gullenhaal (Day After Tomorrow) to fill
the tights and Raimi will likely produce but not helm the project.
Dunst character was not to be in the next three films so losing her
means nothing.
Jan
27: Roberts A Hero: Fifty year old B movie star Eric Roberts has
landed a gig with the hit series "Heroes". While being a
fairly big star in the 80's Roberts career landed him in the B movies
(straight to video) as it has with such actors as Dean Cain, Brian
Bosworth, Roddy Piper, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme and
Casper Van Dien.
Jan
20: Boogeyman 2: What do upcoming and fading television stars do?
Why, they do bad horror of course. Boogeyman 2 is ramping up and
landing a few television wannabe's and has-beens. Joining the cast of
the horror sequel is Danielle Savre (Heroes - cheerleader Jackie),
Rene O'Connor (Xena), David Gallager (7th Heaven) and Mae Whitman
(Thief) have landed roles. Production is slated to begin anytime time
with filming to be done at Sony's Culver City Studios.
Jan
20: More Heroes: NBC is happy with the performance of their new
series "HEROES", which also co-airs on the Sci-Fi
Channel. Heroes has received a full second renewal from
NBC.
Jan
20: Doctor Who A Hero?: Christopher Eccleston, who departed the
hit series Dr. Who after it's first season will not join the series
"Heroes" for a few episodes. He'll play "Claude",
an invisible man character. He's currently in four episodes and the
shows producers would like Eccleston to come play on the series for a
while if they can work around his current film schedule.
Jan
20: Sarah Connor Chronicles: Thomas Dekker just off his Heroes gig
has landed the co-star role of John Connor in the new series "The
Sarah Connor Chronicles".
Jan
20: Avatar: James Cameron may be reteaming with one of his Aliens
stars Sigourney Weaver for a part in his film "Avatar". Of
course that's if Cameron actual ever makes another film.
Jan
14: Jackson... Banned: New Line Cinema head honcho Robert Shaye
has had enough of Peter Jackson and his childish behavior. Accusing
the studio of trying to cheat him out of money was the last straw.
Shaye has permanently banned Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson
from and New Line Project. Says Shaye to Scifi.com in an interview,
"I don't want to work with that guy anymore. Why would I? So the
answer is he will never make any movie with New Line Cinema again
while I'm still working for the company." Jackson has received
$250 million from the studio and wants more. There is no way Jackson
will have anything to do with the Hobbit.
Jan
14: Journeyman: NBC has placed the green for a pilot titled
"Journeyman". It's to be a romantic fantasy about a man who
travels back in time to alter and fix the lives of people in trouble.
However by touching up the past he changes the future.
Jan
14: Tin Man: Alan Cummings has signed on to star in the upcoming
six-hour Sci-Fi Channel mini-series "Tin Man". Production is
slated to being in Vancouver, BC in the spring with a December of 2007
release.
Jan
14: The 4400: Actor Bill Campbell (the Rocketeer) plays Jordan
Collier in the 4400 as a semi-regular. The fourth season begins airing
in the summer of 2207 and fans will see Bill Campbell's character
become a series regular. Campbell just won the People's Choice Award
Winner.
Jan
14: Flash Gordon: The Sci-Fi Channel is quietly developing a new
Flash Gordon series which will be a serious experience compared to the
childish feature of the past. With what the network has learned from
Ron Moore and Battlestar Galactica is possibly the key to bring known
products into the realm of successful television. No big news with the
proposed feature film from Mummy director Stephen Sommers since it was
thought that Ashton Kutcher would take the lead role.
Jan
14: The Diamond Age: Smokehouse Productions will produce the
six-hour Sci-Fi Channel mini-series "The Diamond Age". The
George Clooney lead production company will take on the Neal
Stephenson novel about a neo-Victorian futuristic society in which an
underprivileged young lady gets her hands on a technologically
advanced book only for the children of the upper class.
Jan
14: The Mummy 3: Universal and producer Stephen Sommers have
signed "Rob Cohen" (xXx, Fast & the Furious) to helm the
third Mummy film. Miles Millar and Alfred Gough have already completed
the script. The We could see the young Alex O'Connell, son of Rick
O'Connell (Brandon Frasier) take on a Mummy of his own. Chances are
good that Branden Frasier
Jan
14: Chiller: NBC will create its own horror network titled
"Chiller", which is set to premiere March 1st. The new
network will open to 12 million viewers. But if you don't have direct
TV you won't be watching it. NBC continues to work deals with other
cable operators but currently Direct TV is it. NBC also has deals in
place to air various horror projects from other studios. This includes
several series the SFC has already run into the ground, Friday the
13th: The Series; Freddy's Nightmares; Alfred Hitchcock Presents and
Tales From the Crypt. The Sci-Fi Channel has already moved from
science fiction into the heavy horror realm. I personally would love
to see a true science fiction channel.
Jan
14: Equalizer: A remake of the television series "The
Equalizer" has been in development for years. Michael Connelly
and Terrill Lee Lankford have been hired to pen the new script and
Paul McGuigan will direct.
Jan
5: Bionic Woman: NBC is dusting off an old show for rehashing
duty. Attempting to reach in the right direction the network has hired
Battlestar Galactica's producer and writer David Eick to pen the new
Bionic Woman pilot. NBC Universal will be producing the new pilot and
series should one develop. Eick will co-write the Bionic Woman script
with Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander, Birds of Prey). The greenlight is a
cast-contingent pilot.

5: Indiana Jones in 2007: George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and
Harrison Ford have confirmed the the fourth Indiana Jones segment will
actually film in 2007. All three have agreed on a script and the film
should premiere in the summer of 2008. Filming is expected to begin in
June.
Jan
5: Mr. & Mrs. Smith: While the new series based on the film
gets a greenlight at ABC, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are considering
a sequel to their feature. The television series has only received the
greenlight to lens a one-hour pilot, but could go into production
before it's aired if the studio is happy with the product.
Jan
5: More Laura Croft?: The studio is actually talking with Angelina
Jolie to see if she is interested in returning in yet another Tomb
Raider film. After two dismal feature film performances at the box
office and poor dvd sales it's amazing the studio is interested in a
three go around.
Dec
31: Major Death For Galactica: Ron Moore tells the Chicago Tribune
(killers of the Chicago Cubs) that one of the shows major characters
will perish before the end of season three. The biggest effort will be
not to alter the nature of the show but to play up to the loss and
mortality of all the characters in the show. The loss will be
significant to the show as well as the characters to help create the
drama which so many fans enjoy about the series.
Dec
31: Picard Joins the Mutant Turtles: X-Men and Star Trek Captain
Patrick Stewart has landed a voice over in the new Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtle animated movie. Stewart will voice the character Max
Winters.
Dec
29: Galactica Ending Soon?: There is a distinct possibility that
if season four happens the Sci-Fi Channel could be preparing to end
the series. Season four is currently in doubt as well with the ratings
of the series beginning to drop. Viewership is down for season three
and the network has yet to green light season four. There is talk of
Ron Moore taking Battlestar Galactica into the direct to DVD market
with production even happening as early as between seasons three and
four. Something that will not interfere with the shows current
storylines and may include setting up something for the Sci-Fi
Channel's proposed "Caprica" spin-off series. Fans better
start bugging the network now if they want season four.
Dec
29: Tourist to Flop: Wolverine has his own production company
called "SEED". Hugh Jackman, who's better onscreen as a
comic book hero than a regular person, will produce and star in the
film "Tourist". How good will the film be? It has Hugh
Jackman (X-Men), Ewan McGregor (Star Wars), Michelle Williams (Speciman)
and Natasha Henstridge (species). This is not a cast that promotes box
office bonanza. The new film is a sexual thriller and Henstridge is
known for few objections when it comes to nudity in a film.
Dec
29: Dr. Who Had Enough: In two seasons it looks like no one is
willing to hang around as the good Dr. Who for more than one season.
The word is that David Tennant, who has completed the second season,
wants out of the series. The BBC will NOT deny the reports but does
contend that Tennant is committed to reprise his role in the third
season. At this point it's nothing more than someone else's rumor
concerning Tennant's status.
Dec
29: Battlestar to Follow Serenity: Battlestar Galactica will get
the space role playing treatment. That's right a RPG. The new game
from Margaret Weis Productions will use the same gaming system as the Serenity
game the company produced earlier. The new Galactica RPG should do
well since the Serenity game was so well received. Fans can look for
the core game in the spring. (mania.com)

25: Real Genius 2: the original is one of my all time favorite
films and for some reason Val Kilmer seems keen to return to the realm
of Chris Knight. Seems unlikely that it will happen, but if it could
Kilmer would be greenlit for it.
Dec
25: Rocker James Brown Dead: 73 year old Rock and Roller James
Brown has passed away on Christmas day. Brown was suffering from
pneumonia.
Dec
25: Want More Lara Croft?: Is the third time a charm? Will anyone
give a third Lara Croft film a chance? Paramount flat out refuses to
give any greenlights to a third installment, but they have agreed to
assign a scriptwriter to try and come up with something...
interesting. Talk about beating a dead horse. I don't think anyone
would have to worry about Jolie returning for another one.
Dec
25: Hellboy 2: The fan awaited sequel begins casting in January
with production probably set to being around the June time
frame.
Dec
25: Iron Man: The website for the new live action film is up and
running at www.ironmanmovie.com.
make sure you check it out.
Dec
25: Ninja Turtles: The new animated film has hired Sarah Michelle
Gellar to voice the character of April O'Neil. Also cast for voices
are Patrick Stewart, filmmaker Kevin Smith and X-Man Patrick Stewart.
The Ninja Turtles themselves will not be voiced by any celebrities.

Dec
25: Punisher 2: It's all starting to come together for Punisher 2.
Lionsgate has gone after Pirates of the Caribbean writer Stuart
Beattie by dumping a ton of cash on him to pen the script for the
sequel. Thomas Jane will don the skull painted shirt as Frank Castle
relocates to New York to take a mob boss named Jigsaw. Jane tells the
BigFanBoy website that this one will be a sraight drama with lots of
blood and guts in it with no weird stuff.
Dec
25: Avatar in 2009: James Cameron's for ever in production
"Avatar" has been pushed back until the summer of 2009
according to the director himself. he has several months of effects to
complete but will not release the film until then.
Dec
25: Harry Potter: The final Harry Potter novel finally has it's
official title - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Author J.K.
Rowling has confirmed that at least two characters will die. It will
be interesting to see if Rowling pulls the ultimate Matrix fubar and
kill off one of the main characters to destroy a wonderful series of
books/films.
Dec
17: Galactica Nominated: The Sci-Fi Channel's "Battlestar
Galactica" has earned a 2007 nomination in the Writers Guild of
America Television Awards. The two-part episode
"Occupation/Precipice", written by Ron Moore was nominated
for "Best Episodic Drama". Amazingly the series was NOT
nominated for Best Dramatic Series, but LOST from ABC was.
