30: Deepspace Nine Movie: Paramount and Rick Berman have little interest in taking the
crew of Deepspace Nine onto the big screen. Fans seem to think
differently. They have an
online petition you can sign. There are over 5700 signatures so far
and you can add yours by CLICKING
HERE. At some point hopefully members of the DS9 and Voyager
series will mix in with the Next Generation cast in the features.
Mar
30: DS9 UK Favorite: In a
recent UK poll Star Trek: Deepspace Nine was voted by fans there to be
the number one Star Trek series. Here are the official numbers posted
in, TV Zone magazine. (march 6th, 2002 Trekweb

Mar
30: New ET vs Old ET: The
Sci-Fi Wire is running a pole on which ET fans liked the most and
whether or not the guns should have been removed from the film. 1900
fans have voted. 73% like the new ET but thought the guns should have
remained in the film. 20% preferred the original and only 6% like the
21st Century ET.
Mar
30: G.I. Joe: Looks
like rumors of the classic 'G.I. Joe' cartoons and a new CGI series
airing on the Cartoon Network are nothing more than that. According to
ToonZone.net the Cartoon Network
has told them that they have heard nothing about classic G.I. Joe
coming to the network, much less a new CGI series being in work.
Mar
30: Another Game Going Feature:
Looks like the Konami game 'Silent Hill' may be the next game
turned feature film franchise... or flop. The new film, if it happens,
would be based on the first game. Producers are attempting to get
Johnny Depp in the lead role. (bloody-disgusting.com)
Mar
30: Airwolf: A new VHS Cover
Sheet for 'AIRWOLF' has join the cast and you can CLICK

Scene Investigation'. CLICK HERE

Mar
29: CSI: Miami: The spin-off
episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation to Miami will air on CBS May
9th & 16th @ 9pm. (two episodes) Catherine and Warrick will go to
Miami to help solve a crime. CBS President Les Moonves promises that
the new series will NOT be a CSI carbon copy. It will have a different
cast and a different feel. Miami will focus on more volatile
characters and shoot during the day, unlike Vegas which shoots more
during the swingshift. (Vegas looks incredible at night) the
Florida CSI officers will have come up through the ranks and relate
well with the police. Vegas CSI are scientists deputized by the
police. The color of the city is promised to come out in the new
series. CBS has given 13 episode commitment to CSI: Miami (which
really means nothing) and if all goes well the series may be shot on
location.
Mar
29: Tracker Petition: Fans
of the series 'Tracker' have started a 'Give Tracker a Chance' online

Mar
29: Cyber Love Story: Dean
Devlin and Roland Emmerich are working on a new project titled 'Cyber
Love Story'. A Sci-Fi movie about online chat rooms in the future. The
script is being written by Ron Bass who wrote 'Rain Man'. Emmerich
will direct while Devlin produces.
Mar
29: Rings DVD's: There will be
different versions of the DVD available in August in November. The 4
disc special edition will NOT include the theatrical version of the
film. If you want the theatrical version you'll have to buy the set
being released in August. The longer, more adult cut of the film will
be available in November. Oh, the set in August will be in two
separate packs - Widescreen and Pan & Suk formats. The new
November edition will have about 11 new scenes added.
Mar
29: Misc. News: USA Network
lied to it viewers as they promised to air a special edition 'BIG
DADDY' PG-13 uncut. And yes they did edit the film. Several times
during the broadcast the word 'butt' replaced ASS. Butt even
replaced the word balls. Oxygen Trouble... the ladies network is going
to shit in a basket. The network is laying off 20 from Oxygen Sports
and cut back from its 31 events per year to maybe 12. (variety)
Mar
29: Hulk Begins: Principle
photography has begun on Ang Lee's 'Incredible Hulk' production.
Mar
29: Episode III:
X-Men 'Hugh Jackman' (wolverine) may get a cameo appearance in Star
Wars: Episode III. (dark
horizons)
Mar
29: Dark Angel: The second
season series will likely here in May whether or not they'll be back
next year. Insiders say they have a 50/50 chance to return. Chances
seemed improved with the demise of X-Files ending and even Ally McBeal
possibly taking a walk.
Mar
29: CSI DVD: The UK will again
be getting another US series on DVD in the very near future. CSI:
Crime Scene Investigation hits the UK stores July 1st in three disc
set of episodes 1 - 12. Lucky bastards! The US will of course have to
wait on the DVD set thanks to Syndication rules and so forth. (thanks to Elysee's
CSI Website)
Mar
28: Twilight Zone: Jeremy
Piven (Family Man) has been cast in the new Twilight Zone pilot movie.
Mar
28: Sega: Sega may be out of
it game box wise, but the company is going to be kickin' it on the
Xbox in the near future. Four classic titles are currently in
development. (game spot) This is a direction Sega can dump a crap load
of quality titles out to the fans.
Mar
28: Metro: Along with Tom
Sizemore in Michael Mann's (Miami Vice) new cop series 'Metro' will be
David Cubitt, Barry Henley, Michael Paul Chan, and Klea Scott.
Mar
28: Misc News: John Travolta
is in negotiations to star in the upcoming sports drama 'Mr 3000'. A
Hall of Fame baseball player seven years from playing has three career
hits disallowed dropping him below the magic 3000. He comes out of
retirement to get those hits back.
Mar
28: Terapin: I recently found
a place, Omega Multimedia, selling the Terapin units for $456.oo
and they said they sold 8 units at that price today when I asked them
"How do you justify $456 for a Terapin unit when other online
stores are under $300 and some Sam's Club units are selling them for
$199.99?" What was their exact reply? Here it is... "Or you
could buy them from Sams and resell to us at $250.00 and everyone is
happy. We moved 8 units today." They would give me
practically nothing after taxes and shipping and make another $200 off
the units online. Wow! Never shop here.
Mar
28: Episode II Surprise: Moviehole.net's
Clint Morris checked in with some HOT Star Wars: Episode II news
today. Claudia Karvan dropped some pretty big news about the upcoming
Episode 2 on Aussie TV. Talking to 'The Panel (channel 10), Karvan,
who plays Queen Amilda's old sister in the film, reveals she has been
cut from the film altogether. "Last week they told me my scenes
were on the cutting room floor. They had to cut back", reveals
Karvan. " I was playing Natalie Portman's older sister. Yeah, the
older sister with the kids and that (laughing). It was a pretty weird
scene for Star Wars anyway. Once we finished doing the scene everyone
looked at each other and wondered if that was actually Star
Wars". But will Lucas ask
her to return for Episode III? "We'll he did send me a note,
saying it was such a great pleasure to work with you", she
laughs. The host of the show then proceeded to ask people to boycott
the film because Lucas cut her role.
Mar
28: Speedy Gonzales Banned:
Well, ethics strikes again in another stupid move - this time by the
Cartoon Network as they ban the cartoons of 'Speedy Gonzales'. Do you
remember the cartoon character? The
rapid rodent has been deemed an offensive ethnic stereotype of
Mexicans, and has been off the air since the cable network became the
sole U.S. broadcaster of old Warner Brothers cartoons in late 1999.
There evidently wasn't a problem with the Mexican caricatures at the
beginning of Speedy's career. The 1955 animated short "Speedy
Gonzales" won an Academy Award, and two other cartoons,
"Tabasco Road" and "The Pied Piper of Guadalupe,"
were nominated for Oscars in 1957 and 1961. Networks like the Cartoon
Network have edited out scenes from or simply refused to show animated
movies with now-questionable gags or behavior like smoking or drinking
since the 1980s. Among the most taboo of Warner Brothers cartoons are
the "Censored 11," which depict blacks as fat-lipped
minstrels or cannibalistic savages. "It seems to be yet another
attempt to be PC," New York account supervisor and cartoon
enthusiast Kathleen McCullough said. "Sure, adults
understand and dislike the bigger ethnic issues related to such a
character, but to little kids, Speedy is just a cartoon!" (fox
news)
Mar
27: Enterprise X-Files: When
the X-Files wraps production writer John Shiban will join the writing
staff of UPN's series Enterprise. He will also serve in the capacity
of Co-Executive Producer. Chris Black has been a writer and
supervising producer is being promoted also to Co-Executive
Producer.
Mar
27: Alf to Return: I told you
so, I told you so. NBC will revive ALF, the alien star of the 80's
series and recent return to the 10-10-220 commercials, as part of a
75th Anniversary special this spring. (TV Guide). The rumor persists
that ALF may also get his own talk show.
Mar
26: Glory Days: The days
really aren't that Glory for the struggling WB series 'Glory Days'.
The WB network has pulled the plug on the low rated series despite
still having four unaired episodes in the can. Ratings for the series
have been horrendous. Repeats of Angel in the Monday @ 9pm timeslot
scored better. The unaired episodes could hit the network in the
summer. We could also see the unaired episodes on the Sci-Fi Channel
should they pick up repeat rights for the series. They recently did
this with ABC's 'Strange World' getting the full 13 episodes - 10 of
them were unaired episodes.
Mar
26: Darksiders: New Line
Cinema has hired super-scribe 'David Goyer' to direct 'Darksiders'.
Another vampire film in a slew of many. Yet this one puts a slightly
new twist. These Vampires are the good guys. This movie will follow a
group of vamps as they work for the FBI to do special projects. Goyer
is sidestepping his previous statements that he would only be writing
and directing his own material. Tom Parker and Jim Jennewein have
written the script.
Mar
26: Blade 2: If the opening
weekend is any indication of what lies head, Blade 3 is a done deal.
Blade 2 managed to slip past Ice Age and kicked the crap out of an
aging ET. Blade 2 carved up a mere $33.1M to 'Ice Age' at 31.1M and
poor ET at $15M. The take for the Blade sequel nearly doubled what the
first film made on its opening day.
Mar
26: Wolf Lake: UPN will air
the pilot episode on April 3rd @ 9pm, followed by the successive weeks
by the four unaired episodes.
Mar
26: UPN Series: UPN is the
only network not to have renewed a single series yet, from this
season. Buffy was given a two-year deal when it came over from
the WB. Enterprise and WWF Smackdown are definite greenlights.
Mar
26: Ice Age: Don't fear for
'Ice Age' falling from the number one spot in its second week. In two
weeks of release the film has managed to CGI up a whopping $79M. This
is a wonderful film.
Today's
update delay: Sorry for the update delay. The cable access was down
this morning and I was unable to upload today's news. Apologies.
Mar
25: Forgotten Realms TV:
Fireworks Entertainment (Robocop mini-series) has purchases the
television rights to the 'Forgotten Realms' fantasy novels. The live
action pilot will be written by genre novelist R.A. Salvatore (star
wars nobvels). The new series will tell the story of a land filled
wizards & sorcerers. Dungeons & Dragons (the role playing
game) owners will help Fireworks develop the series storylines.
(variety)
Mar
25: Spidey 2: Marvel's Avi
Arad told the Comics
Continuum that production on the sequel could begin as early as
January 2003. The only reoccurring character exactly the same as the
first film will be the costume Spiderman. Everything else will change.
There will be new villain and Peter Parker will deal with new issues.
There could be more than one villain in the second film. Telling the
origin in the first film only left room for one villain.
Scoop: Farscape Finale Spoilers:
The news is out on final four episodes for this season due in April on
the Sci-Fi Channel. The following episode titles with synopsis have
spoilers.... Read at your own risk. (Josh may have misspelled some
names but you'll know who he is talking about.) You have been
warned my friends. SPOILER ALERT
"I-Yensch,
You-Yensch"
While Rygel and D'Argo barter an uneasy truce with Scorpius (to work
together against the Scarrians) Talyn starts to get so paranoid that
he not only destroys an innocent medical ship he blasts Moya. These
actions cause the crew to forcibly shut down his systems. During the
negotiations with Scorpius (held in a diner) the group is unwittingly
caught in a robbery of the diner. Forced to work together they defeat
the robbers and come to an agreement on how to insure that both sides
can "trust" one another. Agreeing on neural bracelets which
allow each of the wearers to feel everything that the other feels Moya
crew and Scorpius meet on the Command Carrier. Meanwhile Crais is
agonizing over what to do about Talyn and decides that a complete
systems reboot is necessary.
"Into the Lion's
Den (Part 1): Lambs to the Slaughter"
Aboard the Command Carrier John and Scorpius nervously work together
(John has no plans to actually give Scorpius the Wormhole information,
rather trying to give false data to Scorpius). Crais and Aryen are
finding it very hard to be back amongst the the team-mates and
"friends" they used to have as Peacekeepers. The rest of the
crew is attacked in an attempt to discredit Moya's crew and Scorpius
finds that his command is not as absolute as he believes it is, as his
superiors think the Wormhole project is taking too much time and
manpower from the fleet. After rebelling from "the Council"
Scorpius is stripped of his command. Scorpius follows this by
fighting with John and threatening to enslave earth.
"Into the Lion's Den (Part 2): Wolf in Sheep's Clothing"
Not able to actually destroy Scorpius Wormhole information, John
unlocks the "secrets" that the ancients endowed him with and
is really able to stabilize a Wormhole. With his crew rebelling
against him, Scorpius is growing more and more desperate. John and the
crew decide that since they can't destroy the Wormhole info that
Scorpius has that the next best thing is to destroy the entire Command
Carrier. Crais betrays the entire crew by arranging to turn them (and
their plan) over to Scorpius in exchange for Talyn being repaired and
Scorpius to relinquish the bounty on him. John soon discovers that
Crais did not indeed betray them, but rather had his own plan, Talyn
and he will Starburst while still within the hold of the Command
Carrier, which will cause it to implode slowly (allowing most of the
crew time to evacuate). This plan will of course kill him and Talyn.
After they make the ultimate sacrifice and the Command Carrier
(and MANY, MANY Peacekeeper ships) are destroyed Scorpius and John
have their "final" showdown.
"Dog With Two Bones"
With the Peacekeepers severely crippled and Scorpius without any real
power, the crew is prepared to go their separate ways (D'argo is going
to kill the Sebatian that framed him, Rygel is going to reclaim his
throne etc...) and John and Aryen have a hard time saying goodbye.
Aryen just can't let John get close again for fear of loosing
him again. While trying to deposit Talyn's remains in the Leviatian
graveyard Moya is attacked by an insane Leviathan (who killed her
Pilot). The insane Leviatian refuses to allow Talyn to be buried there
since he is part Peacekeeper. The crew (at Moya's request) kills the
rouge and prepares to break-up. After Aryen leaves, John (feeling
down) and the Scorpy- Clone are in Farscape 1 flying around Moya. A
Wormhole appears from nowhere and Moya is dragged in. John also has
knowledge that Aryen is with child (from the other John) and
John is now stranded and out of fuel.
Mar
25: Enterprise UK: The new
series Enterprise is scheduled for European DVD release by the end of
the year. Thanks to U.S. syndication rights we'll have to wait here in
the states.
Mar
25: Robots: From 'Ice Age' to
Robots. This is the next project from the group that brought us 'Ice
Age'. $88M in 10 days really kicked off the development of the new CGI
feature 'ROBOTS'. Set in a world where only robots live, the
aptly-named "Robots" will be overseen by "Ice
Age" director Chris Wedge and children's book author William
Joyce. Screenwriting team Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel ("City
Slickers") have been penning the script.
Mar
25: T3's John Connors: Nick
Stahl (In The Bedroom) has landed the role of Sarah's Conner's son
'John Connor' in the new T3: Rise of the Machines feature.
Mar
25: Chameleon Movies: The
Sci-Fi Channel just ran the 'Chameleon' trilogy, which was being
considered for a series on UPN last season. The trilogy stars actress 'Bobbie
Phillips' as a genetically enhanced agent. The trilogy scored very
well on the Sci-Fi Channel ratings averaging a 1.0 rating for the network.
The trilogy of 'Chameleon' is out on DVD or coming out soon.
Mar
25: Austin Powers 3: Access
Hollywood has learned that Katie Couric, of the Today Show, will make
a cameo appearance the upcoming Austin Powers 3 feature.
Mar
25: Astronauts: The ABC pilot
telefilm coming in at about $3.5M will be directed by Robert Harmon
and star Jeffrey Pierce, Yvette Nipar, Chris Potter, Bobby Hosea, and
Jonathan Banks. The series, if it happens, follows the Russians and
Americans as they decide to play fair and work together with their
space programs. This sounds like 'the Fugitive' series. Expensive
pilot and a series that bombs.
Mar
24: Violent Shows: Amazing
enough the top 3 most violent series, now gone, were #1 - Xena
Princess Warrior with 63 incidents per hour, #2 - Walker: Texas Ranger
with 53 per hour and #3 was Sheena at 47 violent incidents per hour.
Funny that two of the top three violent shows cast females in the lead
roles.
Mar
24: The Shield: Finally caught
two episodes of the series... impressive as hell. I was
actually blown away by language content. Hearing Pussy and G.D. a few
times on regular cable was... well, quite unique and unexpected. The new series on FX reaches
beyond the stale material found today on other networks. I can't say it was
refreshing, but it is out there, right on the edge. (thanks to Sherron
for a name correction)
Mar
24: Knight Rider: The new film
in development will be written to appeal to the 'Fast & the
Furious' set. A Revolution Studios rep has said the it will be a huge
action film. While Glen Larson is writing the script it will NOT be a
remake of the series. Knight Rider will have lots of gadgets and toys
like K.I.T.T. did in the series. Fans should be very aware that the
studio will overhaul the Trans Am. Into white, we'll have to wait and
see. 2004 is the date the studio is shooting for.
Mar
24: Spiderman 2: The sequel is
in work and now it comes down to who the villain is going to be.
Production and design work went into Doctor Octopus (Doc Ock) before
cutting him from the film. This sort of puts the good Doctor on the
playing field for Spiderman 2.
Mar
24: Enterprise Finale: The
season one finale of 'Enterprise' will air May 22nd. Production on the
finale is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and wrap April 8th. It is
unknown right now if the series finale will be a cliffhanger. (psiphy.org)

already on site. Enjoy... CLICK HERE

new covers to the site for download. Joining the multitude of recent
additions is 'Picket Fences' and the Cartoon Networks 'Adult Swim'
shows. CLICK HERE for the VHS

Mar
23: Metro: Miami Vice creator
Michael Mann has picked up Tom Sizemore (Black Hawk Down, Relic) to
star in his new series pilot 'Metro' for CBS. Sizemore will play a
lieutenant in the LAPD robbery/homicide division.
Mar
23: Justice League Ending?:
There are rumors that the new successful 'Justice League' animated
series could be coming to an end after the 26.5 episodes of next
season to make room for a 'Teen Titan' series. Toon
Zone contacted Justice League producer Bruce Timm about the
situation. Says Timm, "This is all I can say on the subject:
JUSTICE LEAGUE is NOT in any danger of being cancelled. We've
been contracted to produce 26 1/2-hours for next season. Beyond
that....who knows? I HOPE our ratings stay strong, as I would
love to do a third season...but it's WAY too early to start worrying
about that." But when asked about a new Teen Titan animated
series Timm wasn't so forthcoming. His only comment was, "No
Comment". This leads one to believe that there is indeed
something going on with Teen Titans, but whether or not it affects JL
remains to be seen.
Mar
22: Alien Prison: Roland
Emmerich is to stay in the genre for his next film at Columbia Pictures.
He'll be doing 'Alien Prison'. The story is about six humans, with
nothing in common, who are abducted by aliens. They are studied and
tortured for years in another solar system. They finally plan an
escape and attempt to foil the aliens plans for a full-scale invasion
of Earth. (variety) Hollow Man writer Andrew Marlowe has done the
latest script revision for Columbia Pictures.
Mar
22: Mummy 3: Rachel Weisz is
sticking to her guns and will NOT return for the Mummy 3. The actress
turned down $3M to return and will instead costar in 'Marlowe'
(another Shakespeare movie) for a mere $140,000. She was adamant
before the second one finished film that she would not return. If they
are smart you turn Brendan Frasier into the next Indiana Jones star.
Hey, it doesn't always have to be about mummy's.
Mar
22: Last
Man:
Clint at Moviehole.net dropped
this news by email today... I
have some more details on LAST MAN with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett,
and it's filming in Australia. - Warner Bros Movie Studios on the Gold
Coast is being expanded to the tune of $8 Million - 2500 people will
be employed from the country spec. for the film - Two other films will
shoot at the same time, utilizing Warner's studio expansion : they are
"Ghost Ship" with Julianna Margulies, and "The Great
Raid" with Benjiman Bratt. - In addition, "Ghost Ship"
(now in pre-production) will also be shot at Queensland's Moreton Bay.
Mar
22: Invisible
Man Quest:
The quest to save the canceled 'Invisible Man' series continues. Last
week the campaign sent two petitions with over 7000 signatures total to UPN,
Fox, series distributor Vivendi Universal in hopes of getting their
attention. Another online petition is looking for signatures too. You
can help out by CLICKING
HERE to sign your name. (Save Invisible Man Campaign)
Mar
22: The
Dick on DVD: It
ain't no porno DVD, it's just ol Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty.
The new DVD is scheduled to hit stores April 4th with an almost
standard $19.99 price (Sam's & Costco price of $15.99). No extras,
no 16x9, no interviews, nothing. Just the film in widescreen format.
It isn't even slated to include a Pan and Scan version with the WS.
Mar
22: Transformers
1984:
The 1984 Transformers are coming to DVD on April 24th in a boxed set.
The complete first season boxed set of 16 episodes (490 min) on three
discs includes a fourth disc which contains all the special features,
which are outtakes and deleted scenes. Oh man, I nearly forgot to give
the price. Why it's just $60. (For a Cartoon?) You can get a great
deal at DVD Planet for $44.96. Much better.
Mar
22: Legend
Ultimate Edition:
Legend, The Ultimate DVD from Ridley Scott and starring Tom Cruise
will finally get onto shelves May 24. The cover looks to be ugly as
hell but the extras should make up for the cover. Buyers at $24.98
will get the theatrical cut of the film and the new directors cut. (dvd
planet)
Mar
21: Twilight Zone UPN: The new
Twilight Zone pilot movie for UPN will be directed Star Trek's Number
One first officer, Jonathan Frakes. Frakes has direct a couple of Star
Trek features and recently complete directing 'Clockstoppers'. Pen
Densham who produced the Outer Limits series for Showtime and the
Sci-Fi Channel has written the script and will executive produce the
pilot telefilm.
Mar
21: Roswell: While UPN has yet
to officially cancel the series, producer Jonathan Frakes tells the
scifi wire that they are shopping 'Roswell' to other networks. Mainly
meaning the Sci-Fi Channel, who is likely dumb enough to pick up the
series. A series when the fans aren't watching and the actors don't
want to do it anymore.
Mar
21: Angel Status: The WB or
UPN? Series co-creator David Greenwalt told the scifi wire that he's
confident that Angel will be renewed by the Frog network. All his
ranting about being back for season four on the WB was hopefully
thinking. It could be a late pick up, based on the WB's projects they
are working on and if they'll be ready to join the line-up or not. I
would like to see ANGEL back with Buffy on UPN. But this is likely the
last season for Buffy. It's Buffy's last year of the contract and
Gellar wanting to move on. (Buffy had a two year deal with UPN.
(to clarify: Buffy on UPN this season was the first of the deal. The
2002 fall season will be the second and final year of the contract
with UPN)

21: Dead Zone: M*A*S*H star
'David Ogden Stiers' is joining the cast of USA Networks 'the Dead
Zone'. Chris Bruno from 'Another World' has also joined the series
starring Anthony Michael Hall and Nicole de Boer.
Mar
21: Taken Cast Set: The new 20
hour mini-series from the Sci-Fi Channel & Steven Spielberg,
'TAKEN', will air over ten straight nights. The cast is set with...
William Garson, James Kirk (dark angel), Julie Benz (angel), Chad
Morgan (pearl harbor), Eric Close (Now & Again, dark skies), Adam
Kaufman (buffy), Heather Donahue (blair witch), Emily Bergl (carrie
2), Gabrielle Rose, Andy Powers, Chad Donella, Steve Burton, Joel
Gretsch, Ryan Hurst, Catherine Dent, Anton Yelchin, and Michael
Moriarty. This mini-series was passed around to all the major network
who passed on it, and was left with the Sci-Fi Channel. Hmmm - wait
for the DVD release.
Mar
21: Disney to Pork 250: Disney
is planning to lay the slam bam thank you ma'am to 250 hard working
animation employees over this coming year. The reason is simple and so
easily used... ongoing staff reorganization. Disney will use a smaller
regular staff and freelance as needed. Why would Disney do this?
Simple... money. They don't have to pay health and dental insurance
benefits for these individuals. Companies today have no loyalties to
their employees and employees have no loyalty to companies unwilling
to commit to them. Disney has laid off over 4000 people in the past
year.

the camera. Casting is up in the air, but Vosloo reports that Brendan

a great Iron Man?

Mar
18: Mad Max 4: Mel Gibson
hinted in US Magazine that he likely will not be suited up in the
black costume worn by Max. He doesn't believe he is physically up to
the job of playing the role again. Beyond Thunderdome was over 20
years ago and Mel doesn't believe he's the man he use to be.
First he was to old to do another Lethal Weapon, and now it's Mad
Max.
Mar
18: I Am Legend: Arnold
Schwartzenegger has apparently stepped aside for the lead in 'I Am
Legend' making room for Will Smith to star in the film. The Schwartz
will now step into a producing role for 'I Am Legend'. Warner Bros. is
now talking with Michael Bey and Will Smith to do the film.
Mar
18: Next Generation DVD: Star
Trek the Next Generation DVD boxed sets are here. The price for the
seasonal boxed sets have a list price of $140.oo. The seven season
boxed set total will be... $980.oo. It is fantastic that seasonal
boxed sets are being released for television series. But at $120 to
$150 per season just how many people are going to purchase them? How
many would buy a set at $50 to $60 per season? These seasonal boxed
sets really aren't worth that much.
Mar
18: Shadow House: Amazing
screenwriter 'David Goyer' (Blade 1 & 2) will be teaming up with
horror director 'Clive Barker' and director Francis Ford Coppola on
Shadow House for HBO. Says Goyer, “We’re trying to see if we can
put the HBO spin on it,” says Goyer. “So it is genre, but what I
like about the HBO shows is that they take things in a more
intelligent direction. There aren’t any special effects in it.
It’s scary and psychological.” (cinescape online)
Mar
18: E.I.S.: A new series for
ABC about the foot soldiers of the Center for Disease Control. The new
CSI style clone will star Adam Goldberg (as a infectious disease
specialist), D.B. Woodside, and Billy Burke. (hollywood reporter) This
almost sounds like a remake of UPN's shortlived series 'the Burning
Zone'.
Mar
18: Moviehole.net Status:
Webmaster Clint, of moviehole.net
would like everyone to know that his website should be back online in
no time. The swarm of fans attempting to read Clint's review of 'Star
Wars: Attack of the Clones' took the server into oblivion over the
weekend. Don't fret though, they are working on the problem now and
hope to have the site and the review back online anytime now. Clint
ask that fans be patient.
Mar
18: Resident Evil: Can you say box office flop? The reviews on the film have
been dismal. Josh Hadley checked out the film today. Here is what he
thought it down and dirty like, no punches pulled... This
sucked both as a bastardization, whoops I mean "Adaptation",
of the games and as a stand-alone movie as well.
The dialog and acting are just AWFUL, and the story (being as
disconnected as it is from the RE story-line) is very poorly written
and erratic as hell. The story moves along at a pace that only a
crack-head can appreciate, there are holes that no professional
director should let stand and that non-stop techno/metal soundtrack
needs to be forever abandoned in the depths of hell (or Hollywood
since they are about the same place anyway).
The FX are weak (it seems as though they could only afford make-up for
about 1/3 of the zombies and that Licker is so obviously CGI that I
felt as if those scenes were not done yet), the acting is just cringe
inducing (that "tough" chick almost made me wonder if they
miscast her since she was more of a zombie through the movie than the
zombies), the dialog made me wince and almost walk out more than once
and the story just seems thrown together from various hollywood
cliches. The direction was bland and lifeless with only a few nice
camera moves to keep you from being bored. The ending (while
furthering the gap between "adaption" and bastardazation) is
such a blatant and obvious set up for a sequel that I
began to honestly wonder why I stayed until the credits....
There are a few nice moments (the laser scene is
interesting) and I can see where Anderson TRIED (note TRIED) to make
references to the games but even those were tired and weak. This is
more of a "Dead Trilogy" wanna-a-be than anything else (yes
I got the subtle Day Of The Dead joke) but that was not enough to make
this a cool film.
This film is a disaster on every "professional"
level and furthers my contention that no-one in Hollywood even
remotely cares about making a GOOD
movie anymore, just making a movie....
Mar
18: Snipes Did You Know: Here
are some tidbits about Wesley Snipes you might not have known. In his
15 years in doing films he has amassed 42 movies. That includes the
four films he's done this year. Snipes is classically trained and once
believed to be the dramatic film equal to Denzel Washington. He had no
plans to become an action star. At 39 years old he is a 5th
degree black belt who dates a Korean painter name Nikki Park, who is
the mother of his two youngest children. Currently the action star
garners $15M per picture and up until now has apparently not been
paying any taxes due to a false belief in the current IRS
system.
Mar
17: Legacy: UPN's new
superhero pilot telefilm, 'Legacy' from Jerry Bruckheimer & Warner
Bros. is slated to air this fall. The project was dumped by the WB and
picked up by UPN. According to AICN is should have stayed in the dump.
The new idea for a possible series is a rehashed storyline about a
reluctant normal turned comic book superhero. You can CLICK
HERE to check out the entire series scoop at Ain't It Cool
News.
Mar
17: Cloak & Dagger: Avi
Arad had been working on a feature film for the Marvel characters
'Cloak & Dagger'. That project has been abandoned in favor of
creating a Buffy-esque style TV Series based on the 'Cloak &
Dagger' characters. Whatever happened to the 'Thor' series
project?

17: E.T.
is Back: Friday
will mark the return of E.T. the Extraterrestrial to the big screen,
to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the film. AND... to make more
money of course since the film with then hit DVD. To get the DVD ready
over 140 shots were reworked and even some filmed again. Digital work
was done on many shots to make ET look more lifelike. Even the scene
with Elliot & ET on the bike going across the moon was reshot
using a real boy instead of the
figurine used in the original.

It looks like Universal's 'Sub-Mariner' project is moving forward.
Marvel's Avi Arad says the project is looking great.
Mar
16: Nemesis Spoiler: Well, it
was actually mentioned many months ago - but AICN has learned that our
DATA does indeed die, if that is the correct word, in the 10th film.
But not to fret fans, we are indeed left with another Data name B-9.
An android who is definitely a rain man compared to the real Data, and
slightly shy of full positronic set of data chips. (section

16: Outer Limits Movie: Writer
Gerald DiPego and his sons Justin and Zachary have signed a deal with
MGM to write a film based on the long-running SF TV series The
Outer Limits in what could become a film franchise, Variety
reported. Mark Victor and Michael Grais of Victor/Grais and Pen
Densham, Guy McElwaine and John Watson of Trilogy Entertainment Group
will produce the movie, the trade paper reported.
The
original Outer Limits series ran in the mid-1960s. MGM TV and Trilogy
revived the franchise three decades later, first on Showtime and then
on the SCI-FI Channel. After seven seasons, it is cable's
longest-running SF anthology series. (ron wolfe)
Mar
16: CBS to join NBC: They
aren't merging or anything like that, but CBS is extremely jealous of
the serious dough NBC is raking in by airing liquor commercials. NBC
is adding more liquor companies to their stable in the near future.
Hey, if you can glamorize the beer drinking industry why the hell not
hard liquor.
Mar
16: Catwoman: IGN Filmforce
has learned that French director Pitof (Jean-Christophe Comar) may be
set to helm the upcoming 'Catwoman' feature. Pitof was the
second unit director digital effects supervisor on Alien:
Resurrection.
Mar
16: Bond Theme: Looks like the
material girl will compose and perform the title song 'Die Another
Day' for the 20th Bond Film. Notable hit Bond themes have included
"We Have All the Time in the World" (from "On Her
Majesty's Secret Service") sung by Louis Armstrong, "Live
and Let Die," performed by Paul McCartney and Wings,"
"Nobody Does It Better" ("The Spy Who Loved Me")
sung by Carly Simon and "For Your Eyes Only," sung by Sheena
Easton. Even Duran Duran tapped in with a hit single for a Bond film.
Madonna won a Grammy Award for her hit song to 'Austin Powers: the Spy
Who Shagged Me.'
Mar
16: Miramax Dumps Jobs:
Miramax terminated 75 positions Friday (yesterday), about 15% of the
studios work force. Miramax is a subsidiary of the 'Walt Disney
Company' and the cuts were midlevel positions mostly in New York with
some in L.A. and overseas. The company had increased its staff by 17%
in October, then re-evaluated its staffing and cut 15% of its jobs.
Wow.
Mar
15: Ice Age Today: The 20th
Century Fox production 'Ice Age' opens in theaters today. Ice Age
stars the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Dennis Leary. The
preview for this one was one of the funniest cartoons I have seen in a
long time.
Mar
15: Million Dollar Baby: The
tabloid are stepping on the asses in an effort to be the first to get
photos of Elizabeth Hurley's unborn child and exclusive photo during
its first two years. Two British tabloids, 'Hello' & 'OK', have
offered over $2M to get the first images of her child. Man, who gives
a rats ass what the kid looks like or who the father is.? What a waste
of money...
Mar
15: Starsky & Hutch: Ben
Stiller has talked again about his upcoming 'Starsky & Hutch'
project. Says Stiller, ""What we're going to try to do is
update it in a way. I'd like to do a new buddy cop movie, because I
don't think there's been a good one since the Lethal Weapons. There's
going to be elements of humor in it and a nod to what it comes from,
but essentially, I think, it should just be a really good action
comedy". (darkhorizons.com)
The problem still comes down to Ben Stiller doing the project.
Mar
15: Clones DVD: the latest
Star Wars feature, "Attack of the Clones' is slated to hit DVD in
the October/November time frame this year. Work is already underway on
the DVD supplemental material to be included.
Mar
15: Wolf Lake: Alex Ganza has
the crappy job of trying to stuff four hours of action, drama and
plots into a 60 second segment for UPN's 'WOLF LAKE'. UPN is going to
air the pilot episode and then at the second week will air a 60 second
recap of episodes 2 - 5 before jumping to airing episode six. John
Leekley's version was much better than what Gonza turned it into. The
unaired pilot was awesome.
Mar
15: Nemesis Close: Section
31.com has learned the tenth Star Trek feature 'Star Trek:
Nemesis' has pretty much completed principal photography. Most of the
main stars should have already completed their shoots by now.

Best Network Television Series:
Angel
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Dark Angel

Smallville
the X-Files
Mar
15: Saturn Awards: You can
tell by the duds nominated in many categories that it wasn't the best
year for genre movies... If 'Tomb Raider' got nominated - it was bad.

"Jurassic Park III"

Mar
14: Terminator Goes Westworld: Despite
being a good film, Collateral Damage didn't score at the box office.
Another sign that the once big action star, Arnold Schwartzenegger is
on the down side of his career. Fans don't seem to view the still
massive 50+ year old star as an action icon. While hoping Terminator 3
can revitalize his career, the action star has already signed on to
the remake of 'Westworld'. Arnie will step into the robot gone wacky
role done originally by Yul Brynner.
Mar
14: Conan To Return: Arnold
Schwartzenegger officially gave word that he will also be returning to
the role that put him on the map with a third Conan picture. This time
Warner Bros. will put the aging star with a young barbarian. It is the
same project being written by John Milius and produced by the same
folks bringing us the Matrix trilogy. (variety)
Mar
14: Dark Angel: Fox is
scheduled to make a final decision on its low rated second season
series in May. Chances for the series return next season are slim with
a $2M to $3M per episode budget and ratings down near 4.0. James Cameron
returning to direct the season finale may be to little to late. A huge
site dedicated to the series at darkangeltv.com is also in financial
trouble, is asking fans to raise their entire $4100 requirement for
another year of service. Like it or not the site is locked
to the fate of the series. Should the series be canceled in May, the
fan site is likely to become another internet fan based tomb.
Mar
14: Spawn Update: The Spawn.net
website has posted word that Todd McFarlane & Steve Niles have
completed their script for 'Spawn 2'. Producer Don Murphy is happy
with the script and signed off on it. Columbia Pictures now has the
script and the scripting duo hope this will be the final draft for the
film.
Mar
14: Helen of Troy: USA Network
has given the green to a four-hour mini-series 'Helen of Troy'. The
story will examine the 10-year war fought over Helen, between her
husband Menelaus, king of Sparta, and her lover, Paris of Troy. The
war was only brought to an end by the Trojan Horse, a wooden horse
filled with soldiers that were finally able to invade the city of
Troy. Production is slated to begin this summer with a late first
quarter airing in 2003. (zap2it.com)
Mar
13: CSI on Top: The second of
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has hit full stride and finally toppled
'ER' & 'Friends' to become the number one TV rated Drama. CSI has
out performed ER and Friends for the second straight week averaging
half a million more viewers this season than ER. (yahoo news)
Mar
13: Dune 2: The second 'Dune'
mini-series is set to begin filming in Prague next month. Ain't It
Cool News has learned that 'Susan Sarandon' is very close to signing
on to play Lady Jessica. The new mini-series will combine both the
second and third novels. Dune: Children of Dune is due to air early
next year.
Mar
13: Where the Hell is Captain America?:
Not the comic book, the live action feature film? We've got Spiderman,
the X-Men, and Blade right now, with Ironman, Ghostrider, Green
Lantern, and Daredevil movies in development. That is great, it really
is. But where is Captain America? I grew up with him as much as
Spiderman and the X-Men. It is time for 'Captain America'. Can't
forget his great partner 'Hawk' either.
Mar
13: Bulletproof Monk: The
legendary MAKO (Conan, Crying Freeman, and about 100 other films) is
joining the cast of 'Bulletproof Monk' with Chow Yun Fat, Sean William
Scott, and James King. Filming will be done in Canada of course. This
time in beautiful Toronto. (comics2film.com)
Mar
13: Ninja Scroll: Larry
Kasanoff 'Mortal Kombat' has bought all remake rights to the 1994
animated 'Ninja Scroll'. It is of course his intention to turn the
project into an FX heavy live action feature.
Mar
13: Terminator Breakdown: Here
is where the $172M budget will be spent. only about $90 million will
be spent on the actual making of the movie. Star Arnold Schwarzenegger
accounts for another $30 million, while director Jonathan Mostow is
earning $5 million. The remaining money, nearly $50 million, for the
most part is being divvied up between a number of rights-holders and
backstage players as the Terminator has passed through quite a few
hands on the long road to a third installment, the paper reports.
Mar
13: A Beautiful Mind: Well...
that leaves Alec Baldwin out of the picture doesn't it?
Mar
13: Alias: J.J. Abrams told
the Museum of Television and Radio that the hard work will not be
slowing down any time soon. While the show has been renewed for next
season, he is looking beyond that. They have ideas for three more
years. The series has been filming in locations around Burbank that
have probably never been used before. Locations that have passed for
Brazil and Russia. The only time they actually went on location was to
shoot in Las Vegas.
Mar
13: Attack of the Clones:
Clint Morris, webmaster of moviehole.net, has sent some Episode II
news from his site. Check out Moviehole.net
for the whole story. Joel Edgerton, who plays Uncle Owen Lars in Attack of
the Clones, let slip that he will be returning as Uncle Owen in the
third film - possibly with a bigger role. Unfortunately he also confirmed that 'Jar Jar
Binks' will be
in the second film, adding that he would do his best to keep the idiot
character from appearing in the third and final installment.
Mar
13: ALF: Now Entertainment
Weekly is asking the same question I did weeks ago. 'Is ALF making a
comeback?'. They have learned that a possible ALF talk show is in the
work. ALF would interact with wacky people who want their 15 minutes
of fame. That's another flop waiting to happen.
Mar
12: Bond 20: The newest Bond
film finally has a name. What is it... well... it's titled 'Die
Another Day'. Almost as Cheesey as 'Attack of the Clones'. What happen
to the catchy titles? Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, the Spy Who Loved
Me?
Mar
12: Firestarter II: Did the
producers of the Sci-Fi Channel mini-series even watch the original
before doing this one? Seems doubtful based on fan reports. On a scale
of 1 to 10, 10 being the best. The mini-series was given a five by a
serious Sci-Fi Channel fan. The only reason for the five was the
awesome special effects used.
Mar
12: The Black Sash: Russell
Wong (Romeo Must Die) will star in the series pilot, 'The Black Sash'
for the WB. Wong's character returns to his family in San Francisco
after being released from jail in China, having been wrongfully
accused of drug trafficking.
Mar
12: Blizzard: Knightscove
Entertainment will be producer the $10M budget fantasy film,
'Blizzard'. The story tells the tale of a girl and her aunt who become
friends with eccentric reindeer 'Blizzard'. The film will be directed
by Star Trek's 'Levar Burton'. The film stars, Whoopie Goldberg,
Brenda Blethyn and Kevin Pollak. The project is already one month into
production.
Mar
12: Pressure: The
thriller 'Pressure' starring Kerr Smith looks to be a direct to video
feature in the U.S. Other countries may get the Richard Gale thriller
in theaters. Blockbuster video here may do a large VHS/DVD release of
the film. (moviehole.net)
Basically it comes down the film not being good enough for theatrical
release. Kinda like 90% of Jean Claude Van Damme films. :)
Mar
12: Alien 5 Again: This time
Ridley Scott talked with FilmInk magazine about Alien 5. Scott told
the magazine is might likely be his next film, after a break. He
started the franchise off, and feels he might as well bring it to a
close... if it's meant to be the last one.
Mar
12: Witches of Eastwick: The
feature film is getting the small screen treatment with Fox in the
drama pilot 'Witches of Eastwick'. Kelly Rutherford (Kindred, and
Brisco County Jr.) will play one of the witches in the pilot. Other
casting for the pilot include Chris Evans and Jonathan Bennett will
play sons of the witches.
Mar
12: True Lies 2: Tom Arnold
has been pushing this film for five years it seems like. Now Tom
Arnold tells TV Guide that they have a great script and are just
waiting for James Cameron and Arnold Swartzenegger. Tom is hoping that
Arnie will be ready after he completes Terminator 3. (TV Guide)
Mar
12: Firefly: Rebecca Gayheart
(Earth 2) has backed out of the role she accepted in the two-hour
pilot movie. They are now attempting to recast the role.
Mar
10: Alien 5 Rumors: The Alien
Experience website has a rumor that James Cameron may be involved in
the Alien 5 thing along with Ridley Scott. Reportedly Ridley Scott has
said that even if he doesn't do the project that Cameron might do it. The 52 year old Sigourney
Weaver is apparently still hot to do this film too. She is likely
expecting a $20M pay check, which will never happen. Either way, it's
all rumor.

none of the Batman projects has been given the greenlight by Warner
Bros. the rumors are starting. Now the X-Files Gillian Anderson has
been mentioned she may have a role in one of the Batman films.
Mar
9: More Black Panther: From Cinescape
thru Moviehole.net - Wesley
Snipes told
Cinescape that he's up for Black
Panther soon. “We want to get to that next year… next year,”
says Snipes of the live action comic book adaptation. “So we’ve
got to make a decision – we’re either going to do BLADE 3 next
year or we’re going to do BLACK PANTHER. Whichever one comes first,
we’re going to do.” While writer-producer-frequent Snipes
collaborator David Goyer’s name has been attached to the project
almost as long as Snipes’, the film’s star could not confirm or
deny whether the filmmaker would be involved. “I don’t know,”
says Snipes with a playful smirk on his face. “Hmmm, we shall
see.” What is known, however, is that Snipes views the transition
from one Marvel Comics superhero to another as a bit of a challenge.
“[It’s a] huge challenge,” says Snipes. “And I don’t want to
recreate any of [Blade’s] mannerism, same tone of speech, voice,
cadence. All of it has to be completely different – even the
hair!” And while the actor has no idea of how he is going to
approach the role of T’Challa (“Oh, man – I have no clue. I have
to go hang out with some [Black] Panthers to go get inspired.”),
ultimately he welcomes the challenge the role will bring. “That’s
the artistry of acting,” says Snipes. “It’s unfortunate that not
a lot of actors are in action films and not a lot of action films have
actors or address the acting component. But hell, if I’m in it and
I’m trained as a theatrical actor, I’m going to try and bring my
training to the movie. That’s my roots. It’s a great challenge –
it should be interesting. I’ve played so many cops, I welcome that
challenge. I’m tired of playing cops.”

theater owners with a new trailer geared toward action. it also
included a menagerie of new creatures and Yoda in digital projection.
Says producer 'Rick McCallum, "We didn't just want to push the
envelope. We wanted to lick it." The question is still the same.
Is it cost effective for theaters to upgrade to this format? Self
proclaimed movie critic Roger Ebert was also here arguing against
against digital projection. Lucas appears to be the biggest push
towards the digital format. (zap2it.com)

Television has partnered with producers Team Todd and Fox Broadcasting
Co. to develop a Muppet series that will feature a new crop of
characters in addition to Kermit, Miss Piggy and other long-standing
members of Henson's fuzzy troupe. The project is still in the early
stages of development, but the plan is to take a wholly new approach
to a Muppet series -- it will not be a remake of the successful
"Muppet Show" comedy-variety vehicle that aired in
syndication from 1976-81. (hollywood reporter)

6: Leprechaun 6: What
do you do after playing an Ewok in Star Wars 3? Why - make Leprechaun
movies of course. Clint Morris, webmaster of moviehole.net,
checked in with this news... Warwick Davis, he of "I played Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi"
fame, contacted Moviehole today to drop some news about a possible "Leprechaun 6", in particular one that Davis is thinking of making
himself, if he can buy the rights. "The 'Lep' sequel thing is something
I have been thinking about for some years now. Myself and Gabe Bartalos
(Lep make-up designer & artist), have many ideas for a sequel. Gabe is
also very keen to direct. I would say that Gabe & I know the character
of the Leprechaun better than anyone else, so who better to make a part
6!", tells Davis. When asked about the return of those pesky Ewoks though, Davis replied "I don't think the Ewoks will return. They have
had their day. Although, I'd love to see the Ewok movies on DVD - come
on Lucasfilm!".
Mar
6: Black Panther: Comics2Film.com
has some interesting news that Wesley Snipes and David Goyer have
talked about doing the Marvel Comics character 'Black Panther'. Both
enjoy working together and they have talked about doing it. If it
happens it won't be until after Blade 3, which is the final script
Goyer will write for someone else to direct. So if it comes to pass,
Goyer would be writing the script to direct himself.
Mar
6: Green Lantern:
Also from the Moviehole.net webmaster was this genre tidbit that
is very interesting. He missed out on playing Spiderman, so now Kerr Smith
(Dawsons Creek) is
putting his feelers out to play "The Green Lantern", Whilst talking to
Moviehole, the WB star says "The Green Lantern!" he declares. "We should
make a film about this guy. He could kick any other super hero's ass".
Smith also talked about two of his upcoming movies, "Pressure" and "Ground Zero". "I play Jack 8 months of the year, anything else I do is
going to differ from Jack...I can guarantee that", says Smith, who has
just wrapped a film called Pressure from Director Richard Gale. "I've never met a guy who could recite an entire film verbatim. Richard did
just that. We were at my house and we put in a tape of "Pressure" to only find out that the audio had not been transferred properly. Richard
did the audio for us. Ninety minutes later he was done...unbelievable.
That shows how well he knows this film and how much of himself he put into it", he says. "Right now its floating around the Festival circuit.
I'd like to see it come out this summer though", says Smith. "I have another film already completed. It's called "Ground Zero". It has
nothing to do with 9/11; it was actually made before that happened.
It's a film about nuclear weapons and terrorism that NBC will hopefully
air this summer". "I thought "The Forsaken" (his last film) was an interestingly edgy film. I enjoyed making the picture, and I thought it
should of done better than it did. Sony was happy though, it made money", says Smith.

when I was in my twenties," admitted the star. "I used to do
long location shoots, now I don't want to work away from home. When
I'm filming, I go home every weekend. Being away from the family is
not conducive to a happy life. Filmmaking is what I love now. I don't
want to be the 'star' of a movie anymore, I want to be part of the
movie making process from the other side of the camera." Some
indications are that his upcoming feature 'Signs' may be his final
film. Nahhhhh.

to the new series is... meaningless.

remains up in the air. The show's animators have already been let go,
