This is the first
Hercules Boxed Set that I have received for review. By now
there is very little that I can tell you about the series by the
fifth season that you don't know, or will make you want to purchase
the series.
I watched Hercules
before the series, back when he was part of the some weekly movie
block with "Vanishing Sons" and "Bandit". It was
five telefilms before the show went into syndicated production as a
weekly series.
Hercules and it's
off-shoot series Xena dominated the syndicated airwaves together for
five years. I was a fan of both series. it was a surprising mix of
drama, action and even slapstick comedy. It never claimed to be
anything more than what it was - entertainment.
I am impressed with
the packaging and material that is packed into the Hercules boxed
sets. The only thing missing is the autoplay feature. Something
Anchor Bay has not put into their boxed sets.
PACKAGING
Hercules digipack has an image of Hercules on the front as well as
the back - both images are fitting for cover art. The inside fold
out pack is covered with hi-res images of characters in the fifth
season. One fold has the listing of the seasons episodes, but there
are no synopsis within the boxed set for them. The
lay out of the boxed set is appealing.
VIDEO:
The video transfer is excellent. The blemishes are minimal and the
colors are vibrant. I have seen some episodes from season two and
four boxed sets and season five would be comparable to that of the
fourth season. The picture quality looks good.
AUDIO:
The audio is remastered to Dolby
Digital 5.1. The voices through the center channel sound good and
there are is an excellent mix from the rear and front
speakers. Hercules never sound this good in best moments on
television.
BONUS FEATURES:
Anchor Bay has been very good about extras with their boxed sets.
Hercuels: Season 5 is no different in that respect.

SUMMARY:
Anchor Bay has presented fans with another great boxed set. Just one
season left to complete the Hercules series. With a mix of great
video, awesome audio and a nice mix of extras buyers will get a what
they paid for. Fans will get a great boxed set. Hercules was a fun,
action packed series. Mix this with a pizza and something cool to
drink and you have an afternoon of fun.
